AVA
The smoking nail. It was the trademark logo of the shadow assassins. At the moment, it was tattooed against Venom's skin, the dark ink standing out against his pale skin."Cool tattoo you have there" I commented. He turned to look at me, a smile tugging at his lips."It's been a while since I got it. You like tattoos?""Yeah. I've never had a chance to get one."He stared at me for a moment, and for every second his gaze lingered, I was painfully self conscious. There was something about him that made even my wolf to cower. I could feel an aura similar to the one that surrounded my brother, the Alpha of my pack. This made me think that he was either an acting Alpha or the true Alpha of a pack. If he was an Alpha, why would he join the Shadow Assassins?"I'm curious about you, Ava" he suddenly said."Really?""I've met a lot of women but none of them intrigued me like you do. I like your choice of hair style by the way" he said.I found myself blushing furiously. For Ava Morgan, this was very strange. I didn't think I would ever meet anyone other than Keegan, who would turn me into a blushing mess.In preparation for my quest, I'd cut my hair to chin length and had dyed it rosy pink. My twin sister had been excited about it. She'd told me it brought out the sexy badass in me."What's your story, Ava?" Venom questioned. I couldn't let him know that I'd come to Silverfalls town to find Keegan. Therefore, I cooked up a story."I.. uh..I am looking for my twin sister"He raised a brow, surprise crossing his features."Your twin sister?"I nodded."I'm a twin. We got separated at the age of five.""Oh...""I've been searching for her for quite a while now""You must have travelled far away from your pack""I don't have a pack""You don't?" Hayley and her brother echoed."I don't. My mother was a rogue. She died when I was eight""How have you managed to survive on your own?""I didn't. I had a group of five members. We were all born rogues. They all died a month ago during an attack" I mumbled."It must've been hard for you" Hayley said, placing a hand over mine.It made me feel bad about lying to them. They seemed really nice."Come stay with us" Hayley suddenly told me. I stared at her, surprised."Hayley, I'm a rogue. No pack would...""Our pack is different. You will be accepted even if you're a rogue. So, please... come with us" she said. She had tears in her eyes and the pleading look on her face made my heart squeeze. She seemed... desperate."But.." I started to say."Hayley likes you. This is a first. Why not consider her offer?" Venom said. I blinked. I hadn't expected it to be so easy to convince them."V, convince her to come with us. I...I need her. She is the key" Hayley stated and Venom stiffened."Hayley, what do you mean?" He said, his gaze fixated on me."It doesn't hurt when she's with me. I don't know...I can't explain it...but... since she came to me, it no longer hurts. It's her energy. It's soothing"I stared at Hayley confused. I had absolutely no idea of what she was talking about."Are you sure?" Venom asked, his eyes wide."I am.""I'm a little lost over here. What are you talking about?" I said. Venom rose to his feet."Come with us. We need to talk in a more private place. It's important" he suddenly said.Letting out a sigh, I stood up and left the restaurant with the siblings. This wasn't a part of my plan. However, I hoped that whatever was going on would work in my favor. We ended up in Venom's truck. He drove us downtown and parked the truck in the parking lot of a motel.Cautiously, I followed him into the motel. Once we had settled down in one of the rooms, he began to pace. Hayley was seated beside me, her gaze fixed on me."When she was little, she accidentally swallowed a crystal which contained the dark energy of a dark fae. She has been in pain ever since. It has as well hindered her from having her first shift. She's seventeen years old and her pain has been worsening. We were told that the only way to help her was to find someone with an energy different from the one in the crystal""Have you tried to get it out of her?" I asked."So many times. Each time we tried, we failed" Hayley said, her voice cracking with emotions."They told me I wasn't going to survive long enough to celebrate my twentieth birthday if I didn't find someone with a soothing energy""If you can stay by her side long enough for her to have her first shift, the dark energy will be dispelled. My sister would be able to live because of you" Venom explained."Please, Ava. Help me. I don't want to die" Hayley pleaded, a tear rolling down her cheek. It was my chance to find Keegan. Like hell would I throw this opportunity away. I also felt sorry for Hayley. I hoped I could help her. Truth was, I had no idea that I possessed such energy."Fine. I don't really have anywhere else to go," I said. Hayley beamed at me, her eyes glistening with tears."Thank you. Thank you so much, Ava."...The three of us arrived at the pack house the next morning. Venom took me to one of the rooms to help me settle down."You can freshen up in the bathroom. Someone will be here to take you to your assigned room" He said and I nodded in understanding. His overpowering scent lingered in the bedroom even when he was long gone. Stretching my arms above my head, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath."Alright, Ava. This twisted game is about to begin. You have to be smart about it" I muttered.Finding Keegan had brought me to Silverfalls town. Once he'd rejected me, I would make sure to find my way out of town. I knew it was going to make Hayley feel sad, but I just didn't want to complicate the situation. After taking a shower, I changed my clothes and proceeded to dry my hair using my towel. I was just about to peek out from the window when I heard the knock on the door. So, I dropped the towel and walked towards the door. I opened it, a gasp escaping my lips. Although I'd been preparing for this moment for a while, I felt unprepared. Standing a little over six feet, he had the body of a warrior. His black T-shirt hugged his upper body and highlighted his muscled form. He used to have short hair. But, he had ditched it for longer blonde hair in a ponytail. When our gazes locked, a shiver ran down my spine. It felt as though he was a stranger because his eyes were no longer warm. They were as frigid as ice. There was no mistaking it because his face was tattooed in the back of my mind. It was Keegan, the man who had abandoned me."Keegan?"If he recognized me, he did not show it."Do you not recognize me?" I asked and he blinked."Should I?" He deadpanned, his face expressionless. I knew in this moment that I was truly fucked.KEEGAN Her stare had a way of making me feel like shit. She was the last person I'd expected to meet today. Scratch that, I never thought I would see her again. "You don't recognize me?" She asked and I blinked. I couldn't forget her even if I tried. It was probably as a result of my guilt. The sight of her had shaken me, but I'd refused to let it show. She was more beautiful than ever. Her pink hair suited her as well. Her eyes were bluer than the sea, but I could see the pain ingrained in them. I was well aware that it was the pain I'd caused her. Her scent washed over me, bringing along with it, the strong feeling of nostalgia. Fuck, I missed her. However, I didn't have the right to confess how much I had ached for her. So, I chose to be a stranger to her. "Should I?" I deadpanned, keeping my expression schooled. She was hurt. I could tell by the way she took a shuddering breath, her eyes filling up with tears. My heart squeezed as I watched her struggle to maintain her
AVA "She smells oddly... familiar."The silver eyed woman regarded me with a cold gaze as she approached me. "The unfamiliar scent on Keegan's body...came from you?" She queried.Venom sighed and Keegan looked away. "She's just a new recruit, isn't she? How then did she get close enough to Keegan to leave her stench on him?" I frowned, balling my fists in annoyance. The bitch just indicated that my scent was a stench. I didn't have to be a part of the group to know that there was something going on between her and Keegan. This did not put me at ease. Instead, it made my chest burn. "We did not embrace. She bumped into me" Keegan stated. I glared at him. He refused to make eye contact with me. "Do you have a pack?" Shade demanded. I parted my lips to give her an answer. However, Venom beat me to it. "I have interviewed her. She is already a member of the pack"She furrowed her brows and folded her arms across her chest. Venom moved away from my side and started to head toward
AVA The look on Keegan's face was that of disbelief and confusion. This had to mean that he wasn't lying to me. The problem was that, my eyes had never been lilac. Never in my life. I moved backwards and Keegan frowned. "Is this the first time this is happening?" He asked. I didn't give him an answer. I was too caught up in my own head which was already swarming with endless questions of possibilities. So, I took off running. "Ava, wait!"Keegan's voice held concern but I didn't care. I needed to see for myself. I ran until I got to the room I'd been assigned to. I hurried in, locking the door with shaking fingers. Then, I rushed to the bathroom. Once I got there, the sight of my reflection on the mirror hit me hard. For a moment, all I could do was stare. I didn't blink or breathe. I just...stared. My eyes were gleaming with a mysterious brightness. A wave of dizziness washed over me and I stumbled out of the room, fishing my phone out of the pocket of my jeans. With unstea
KEEGAN I stiffened, my fists clenched. I was trapped, I was well aware of this. I couldn't fathom how Shade had discovered that much information in such a short time. Ava's face had gone pale, the horror in her eyes were unmissable. "Why? Cat got your tongue?" Shade drawled, her claws elongating. She was about to behead her. I could tell by the way her claws slowly inched towards Ava's throat. As much as I had chosen to back off from Ava's life. I couldn't let her die this way. For once, I couldn't stand and watch her get killed. "I rejected her" I blurted out and Shade went still. Slowly, she turned to look at me, her eyes narrowed."You did? Then, why is she here?" There was no time. If I didn't give her a reasonable response, Ava was bound to lose her life there and then. "She was exiled from her pack" I lied.Shade cocked a brow, confused. "How is that possible? Her brother is the alpha, is he not?""He is strict when it comes to punishments. Didn't you hear that
AVA A smile curved my lips and I moved my lips to Keegan's ear. "I'm not that easy, you know? If you want a kiss, you have to work for it" I pulled away and Keegan's expression hardened. Clenching his jaw, he turned away from me and walked out of the cell. I knew I'd just caught him unawares. He hated it. I knew this because he utterly detested surprises. After going through my morning routine, I went in search of the pack's gym or training centre. When I walked in, I found Venom pummeling blows into a punching bag. He was shirtless, his skin glistening with sweat. He also had his hair in a messy ponytail. He raised a brow when he saw me. "Ava? What are you doing here?"I shrugged as I approached him. "I'm a bit of a gym freak" I told him and he smiled, brushing a few strands of face away from his face."That explains why you were able to defend my sister at the bar.""Want to spar with me?" I asked. He folded his arms, his biceps bulging. They had me distracted for a moment. "Ar
AVA"What is it now? What do you want from me?" I said."Why won't you stay away from him? He's mine now. Get it through your thick skull" Shade uttered.I frowned. "He was in pain. I couldn't just look away. You must've been watching us. You weren't concerned about him. What kind of mate does that make you?" Shade's eyes darkened, her fists clenched. She was annoyed. It was written all over her face. "You seem to be extremely talented when it comes to pissing me off" The words had barely left her lips when she pinned me against the wall, her fingers wrapped around my throat."You still don't know your place, do you?" She hissed. A smug grin tugged at my lips and her expression faltered, her jaw slackening. "You heard him, didn't you? He rejected me. Why are you so insecure? What? Are you going to compete with a woman your own mate rejected? How pathetic" I knew I shouldn't be running my mouth, but I couldn't resist the urge to do so. Shade's grip on my throat tightened. Instin
KEEGAN Several years ago, I was hot. It was the first thing that registered itself in my brain. Hot sweat dripped down the sides of my face and beads of sweats rolled down my spine in rivulets. My upper body was bare, I realised. Forcing my heavy eyelids open, my blurry vision zeroed in on my younger sister. She was tied to the ceiling, face down. So, was I. There were six empty barrels in the room and on top of each one, was a pair of candles that lit up the room with a warm glow. I looked around the small room, in search of a means of escape. I couldn't find a single window. However, there was a door to my left. Pain shot through my wrists and ankles when I tried to move. "Key?" I froze at the sound of my sister's weary voice. "I'm here. Try not to move, it'll hurt a lot. I'll get us out of here, I promise" She whimpered, I could already sense her fear. "Too hot. Key, I'm scared. I don't want to die" she croaked. The sight of the glistening tears on her face
UNKNOWN They rushed in and knelt in front of my desk, their anxiety peaking. Grunting with displeasure, I leaned back on my seat idly tapping my fingers on the armchair."Speak" I said. Julian, one of my most trusted men rose to his feet. "The mutts are gone. The two werewolves whom we'd managed to capture apparently set them free before our arrival" he said. Pissed, I brought my glass of fresh blood to my lips. "What about the adults? Did they escape?" I asked calmly. Julian gulped, lowering his head. "My lord, please forgive us. We were careless," he stuttered."I am disappointed, Julian" I spat, slamming the glass on the table. "Forgive us, my lord!" My men cried as they bowed their heads. There was a frantic knock on the door. One that drew my attention. "Come in" I ordered. A short blond hurried in. In his hands was a small black box. He placed it on my table."My lord, we found this ring on the scene. We believe it belonged to the woman."With trembling fingers
