Taylor
I rolled onto my back and groaned as the late afternoon sun streamed across my face. I didn’t want to get up, but someone had left the blinds open. I looked around, blinking, as the nights events came back to me. I sat upright with a start. I had fallen asleep in a vampire’s bed. A vampire who hadn’t seemed at all interested in me hanging around. The goddess Nyx had told me that it would be a struggle getting through to him. My emotions warred with one another in my mind. On the one hand, I felt a deep sympathy and desire to heal him. On the other, I was a witch, fear of his kind and the duty to kill were ingrained at me at a young age. An urgency in my bladder pulled me from my thoughts.
“Hello.” I called out, expecting the brooding vamp to answer.
Only the sound of my own voice echoing off the empty walls greeted me. I pushed myself off the bed and began searching for the bathroom. The vamp had obviously left as I slept. My hand creeped up to my neck and I sighed in relief as my fingers revealed he hadn’t bitten me. Feeling slightly dejected that he had left me in his apartment alone, I decided to make myself at home. I had to open the bar at six, a quick glance at my phone had revealed that I had slept until just after four. I reasoned to myself that it just made sense to shower here, rather than make my way across town to my own small house. I usually kept a spare change of clothes at the bar for nights when the crowd got rowdy.
The apartment was still empty by the time I had showered and pulled my clothes back on. I suspected a vampire wouldn’t keep anything edible in their lair, so I made my way to the front door, stuffing my panties in my purse as I went. I hesitated momentarily, wondering if I should try to lock the door, before shrugging to myself and pulling it closed. It wasn’t like the man had much anyway. I popped into the café that was on my way to the bar to grab some food before I needed to be at work. It was a Friday, and a payday for most of the townies, tonight would be busy and I wouldn’t have time to scarf down some bar food to appease my stomach.
I had just enough time to make it to the bar by the time I had finished my meal and paid my tab. I wasn’t surprised to see one of the regulars already waiting outside. She was an unusual woman, always in some crazy outfit. Today, she was dressed as a “sexy” panda. Her voluptuous breasts threatening to spill out of her top as she pranced around the door waiting for me to unlock it. She stood out in our small town almost as bad as I did with her wild appearance.
“Come on in Orchid.” I said, as I opened the doors.
She made her way to her favorite barstool, she said it gave the perfect view of the door so she could get ‘dibs’ on any fresh meat. I secretly thought it was because she had easy access to the bartenders. I quickly mixed up her usual and left her be as I tended to the business of readying the bar for patrons.
Most nights I had hours to get things in order, Friday’s the bar would fill up quickly after the doors were opened. People were already streaming in by the time I had finished bringing up the last box of liquor I needed to start with a fully stocked bar.I had been slinging drinks nonstop for the last few hours when I felt my pendant heat up. I looked up from the bar, hoping to see my vamp, but instead there were a half dozen men I had never seen in my life entering the bar. What the fuck is it with all the sups lately? I thought to myself as I stole a quick peek down my blouse. My pendant was yellow, that meant the strange men were werewolves. I couldn’t help noticing that they were all muscley, tan, and earth shatteringly gorgeous.
“What can I get ya?” I asked when they reached the bar, plastering a smile on my face.
“Oooh, I recommend the bamboo shooter.” Orchid squealed, squeezing herself between the bar and the closest wolf.
“Thanks.” He responded dryly. “I think I’ll stick with whiskey, on the rocks.”
“Oh, you are whale-cum. Get it, Whale. Cum? You know, cuz you got a moby dick?” Orchid was practically drooling on his shirt. Not that I blamed her, he was a good-looking man.
“Orchid, I’m not sure they’re the type to quite appreciate your sense of humor love.” I scolded.
She pouted before sticking her tongue out at me and wandering off to her usual plaything. I quickly produced six whiskeys for the wolves and returned to serving other customers. I wanted to know why the wolves were in my bar, but I didn’t want to out myself as a witch. My kind was made specifically to kill other supernaturals, them knowing what I was would only put me in danger. I saw my opportunity to gain information when they called for a second round of drinks. I slid the glasses onto the counter and filled them with whiskey, knocking one over as I slid them to the men.
“Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry.” I cried, snatching the towel off my shoulder to mop the liquor up from the bar. “I’m so clumsy, I got you with it. I am so sorry.”
I moved quickly, continuing my apologies as I wiped his shirt with the remaining dry spot on my towel. As I had hoped, he reached his hand up to grab my wrist and stop me. I barely heard him tell me it was alright, that he could clean his shirt himself, before the images flooded my field of vision. I saw everything leading up to the moment he grabbed my wrist. He had been tracking a nest of vampires, suspicious that they were under the protection of the first. They had been looking for them after some kind of war between the supernaturals in the fae kingdoms. He had tracked them to the outskirts of town, decided him and his packmates would stay in a local hotel and get some rest once they had cleared the nest. That was when they found him, my brooding vamp. I pulled away, biting back a gasp, as the image of them forcing a stake into my mate’s chest held steady in my mind. I had seen from the wolf’s memories that it hadn’t done much to him, but they were hellbent on finding a way to succeed killing him. I needed to find a way to get him out.
The wolves stayed, ordering drinks, well into the night. I had wracked my brain, trying to come up with a plan to free my vampire from their clutches. I didn’t want to risk putting myself in more danger by using magic. I wasn’t exactly skilled anyway; my mother had neglected to train me as well as she should have. I watched as Orchid’s advances towards the wolves were rebuked again and had an idea. “Hey hon.” I smiled as she pranced back to the bar for another drink. “One of those guys invited me back to their hotel after the bar closes down. I don’t think it’s a good
RhazianPride welled in my chest and I quickly tamped it down as I held Taylor upright by her arm. She had been idiotic to conduct a rescue mission on my behalf. She was brave, but a brave idiot was still an idiot. Her scent was now all over the hotel room where we left the dead wolf. I groaned inwardly as I realized I would have to stash her somewhere safe. I wanted to be done with this mate business, but it seemed Nyx had chosen a stubborn one I couldn’t rid myself of easily.
Taylor Whispering down the hall drew my attention and I moved toward the voices. My reflection in the mirror stopped me in my tracks. I’m dreaming, I must be dreaming. I thought as I stared at my mother’s face in the mirror. She was younger than I remembered her. Looking down I saw the slight swell of my belly. She was pregnant, with me. It wasn’t usual for my gift to show
Rhazian“What?” I sputtered, choking on the coffee I had been sipping to avoid drawing suspicious looks. “I said, who is Apollo.” Taylor enunciated each word as if I were too slow to understand without it. The waitress eyed us suspiciously as she refilled our drinks. I waited until she was out of ear shot to speak.&nb
Tyler POV“Find her!” I snarled as I gazed upon my warrior’s limp body. His head was twisted in an unnatural angle, the room flooded with the scent of human. The vamp was gone, and it was clear he had assistance from a human. My warrior, Shane, had been busy removing the girl from the bar. She had apparently followed us back to the motel, intent on continuing her attempt to get into someone’s bed for the night. He had linked Mark to stay with the vamp. We hadn’t been able to kill him, none of the normal methods fo
Rhazian POVI felt myself moving toward her, as if being pulled by an invisible cord, as she flitted through the kitchen jotting notes on her paper. Before I knew what I was doing, I had her pinned between my body and the counter, one hand laid on the countertop on either side of her. Her scent wafted over me, warming my body. I was giving in to the pull of the mate bond, unable to stop myself. “Rhazian.” She breathed, pressing her hand against my chest as I tilted my head toward her. I pressed myself closer to her, feeling the sparks of our connection slowly roar to life.
Taylor POVI finished my meal in stunned silence. It seemed every time I had a chance to get closer to Rhazian, I only pushed him further away. Nyx had warned me that he was a damaged and broken man, but in my hubris I had thought it would be easy to piece him back together. Sighing, I stood to clear away the excess takeout bags from the table and find somewhere to store the food. I had barely begun clearing the food away when pain ripped through my head and I fell, reaching my hand out to steady myself. My vision darkened as I tumbled to the floor, tipping the small dining table over as I collapsed. For the second time, I found myself a passenger in someone else’s body. I was standing in the middle of a densely wooded area, a petite woman before me.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” I demanded. “Don’t you care that they’re going to hurt someone I know because of you?” “The wolves won’t hurt her.” He responded, dryly, making his annoyance plain. “What do you mean they won’t hurt her? They are threatening her Rhazian! It’s my fault she’s in this mess to begin with.” I continued to scream, my panic beginning to rise. “Taylor
Osiris “What on earth are you doing all the way out here, Osiris?” Saveta called waddling toward me. One hand rested on her protruding belly as the other held the hand of my five-year-old nephew. She motioned for me to make room as she lowered herself onto the bench beside me. “You know how it goes. Mom and Dad can’t keep their hands off each other. I had to get away from that.” I replied, scrunching my face in comical disgust. “You know, you can still come stay with us if you want. Chuck would love to have you help out with his little experiments.” She chuckled. My sister had b
I crept to the front of the cottage, peeking through the curtain, Rhazian close behind. Just beyond the porch stood the coven that had taken me from Rhazian’s mountain cabin. I could feel the anger rolling off my mate. If he were still immortal, he would have been outside, ripping them to pieces before I could say a word. I sent up a silent prayer of thanks that his invincibility had disappeared with the removal of Apollo’s curse. I didn’t want my mother’s people dead unless there was no other choice. “What do we do?” Miriam whispered. “Fae magic doesn’t work on witches.” “I should go out and talk to them.” I replied, squaring my shoulders in determination.
Taylor It had taken a couple days for us to be able to access the place where we had ended my father. Each attempt until than had resulted in a sudden confusion and feeling of being pushed away that we couldn’t deny. When we were finally able to reach the place, it was startlingly familiar. The earth was scorched as the earth in my vision of Titan’s downfall had been. My guardians were nowhere to be found. Sadness tugged at my heart as I realized that I had called them forth to be destroyed. There was happy news, however. Saveta was mortal again and had begun to age at a human rate. When Apollo lifted the curse from my mate, it was lifted from everyone that remained. The wolves he had turned to hybrids, thankfully, held no memory of their time as were-vamps. They described the time as floating in darkness, until
RhazianMy eyes scanned the misty field. It had been a touchy couple of weeks, but it was finally time to end Apollo’s threat once and for all. Taylor and I had arrived at the fae palace the day after Saveta had shown up at my door with wolves. The moment we were situated in our suite, I began summoning my creations. I had felt the ties lock into place as each one fell back under my control. The wolves had taken every opportunity to threaten my life once the war was won. It was clear there was no love lost between us even though I was currently an ally. Taylor seemed to have her own issues with the Fae queen. I would catch her glaring daggers at the woman when she thought nobody was looking. “Are you ready for this?” She whispered, squeezing my hand in hers.
TylerI couldn’t hear anything over the ringing in my ears. The moment the hybrid beast had begun twisting the cell bars, Chuck had fired several shots into her torso. She had shot him a deadly glare as she clutched her chest and collapsed to the ground. While her skin didn’t seem to react to the silver while in human form, the small tendrils of smoke coming from the bullet holes seemed to indicate there was an internal reaction. “Well, that was intense.” Chuck laughed as my hearing started returning to normal. “How the fuck did she do that?” “No idea. Maybe being in human form they’re more vamp than wolf?” Chuck shrugged. “She’s down for the moment though. Doesn’t look like the vamp sid
Rhazian Taylor looked terrified as I thrust her behind me. Saveta was the only person who knew where I was hiding out and she wouldn’t have knocked. I groaned inwardly at having chose a place with a front door situated in the living room as it shuddered under another thundering knock. “I don’t think they’re going away.” She hissed behind me. “If they keep pounding like that, the door is going to give. Better to answer it.” Nodding, I gestured for her to step into the hall. If our visitor were a threat, at least my mate would be out of sight and have a head start. I straightened my self to my full height as she followed my unspoken direction. One last glance to ensure my mate was hidden away and I strode to the door, pulling
I landed against something soft, the space around me filled with darkness. Moving to get my bearings, I realized I was in a bed, the comforter tangling around me as I moved. Even more startling than finding myself in a dark room, in a strange bed, was that I wasn’t alone. My eyes adjusting to the dark, revealed a man slumbering next to me, his breathing peaceful and easy. I scrambled from the bed, landing on the floor with a thud as the blankets captured my legs. “Who’s there!” The man demanded, bolting upright. “Oh, thank goddess, Taylor!” He moved too fast for me to see, pulling me tightly to his chest. He seemed to be familiar with me, but I wasn’t even sure who I was at the moment. I pressed my h
I was lost. Once I had gotten out of long shadow of the dark mansion, everything in the celestial plane began to look the same. I had tried to use a guidance spell, but my magic didn’t seem to work here. The only option I had was tapping into my demi abilities which would draw my father directly to me. Scowling up at the open sky, I screamed my frustration at the two suns and moons that hung above my head. “This is ridiculous!” I wailed to myself. “I can’t even navigate by human means.” My stomach growled angrily as I became more and more lost. I was so hungry that the leaves on the trees began to look appetizing. I knew I would be useless if I didn’t find food soon, chastising mysel
Taylor I whirled around in a fright to face the owner of the hand that had landed on my shoulder. My breath whooshed from me as I found myself face to face with my golem. “You scared the daylights out of me!” I scolded; one hand pressed against my chest in a futile effort to slow my pounding heart. He slipped past me, not sparing me a second look as he made his way toward the book that had drawn my attention. He stopped just before it, his head cocked to the side, listening to something I couldn’t hear. “We should go.” He whispered. “No, I need to know what’s in th
