                                                                Rhazian

I stood over my bed in the dark, glowering. Taylor had made herself comfortable and was passed out faced down, her head turned toward the wall on my pillow. I watched the slight rise and fall of her body with her breathing, angry that Nyx had not only sent me another mate, but one that had no concept of boundaries. She reminded me of my last mate, Eliza.

I plopped down in the sole chair in my apartment, my breath leaving me in a slight hiss, as I closed my eyes trying to shut out the image of my lost love. Memories taunted me, playing across the back of my eyelids. I found myself suddenly immersed in a moment I had tried to bury deep in the recesses of my mind.

I had been starving, half feral from hunger when I caught her scent. I crept to the tree line to find a woman, laughing in the warm sun as she dipped her toes in a stream, her fiery red hair billowing in the breeze. There was no room for any thought but satiating my hunger as I moved towards her on instinct alone. She hadn’t been afraid when I grabbed her roughly. Instead, her eyes held something akin to pity. She had swept her hair back with her hand and offered her neck to me, urging me to feed. I had fallen on her like a madman, drinking deeply until we had collapsed to the ground, her wrapped in my arms.

My senses began to return as I slaked my hunger, and my nose began to recognize the scent of a mate. I tore my mouth from her neck, guilt racing through me as I felt her pulse slow. She looked at me, her eyes searching my face, as her hand caressed my cheek. I laid her on the soft ground as I pierced my finger with my fang, rubbing it across the puncture wounds in her neck to close them. My chest filled with panic at the thought that I had harmed my mate. I tried to reason it away. The villagers had become increasingly superstitious over the ages, while their totems didn’t actually keep my kind away, the way they closed in upon themselves had made it harder and harder to feed.

Her breathing was shallow, but her eyes still burned with curious determination. I knew I needed to get fluids into her, and food, though there was nothing to feed her nearby. I hoisted her weakened body into my arms and carried her to the streams edge, whispering crazed apologies as I moved. She seemed to understand what I was doing and drank eagerly once I had lowered her down within reach. Her thirst sated, she stood shakily. There was no fear written across her face as she shifted herself closer to me. I had never questioned why she had so readily accepted me, our life together revealed that she was fearless and accepting.

I clutched my hand against my chest as the memories began to shift. It was always like this. I would remember the moment I met Eliza, revel in the joy of it, only to have the memory of her loss crash down upon me. My breathing came in short gasps as my body prepared for the next wave of memories to play across my eyelids. My mind screamed out, cursing Nyx yet again for torturing me with love I could only lose before I was transported once again.

Eliza and I had built a life in her village, the other villager’s suspicions of me had turned to admiration over time. I hadn’t aged since I couldn’t remember when and I knew that meant that we would need to find a new home soon. Eliza had been thrilled with the prospect of seeing new places. It helped that I had amassed a substantial wealth in my many years and could take her anywhere she wished to see, provide her anything her heart desired. We had only stayed in her village after she learned of my riches because she wasn’t ready to give up her home.

I kissed her as she left our small hut, making her rounds with foodstuffs for a family whose home had burned down. I had been to caught up in my mate to notice the young ones that had begun encroaching on our small territory. Even in her absence, she was the only thing I could focus on. I should have paid closer attention to things happening around us, I might have been able to save her life. Instead, the young ones had been left to attack people on the outskirts of the village unchecked. They had made a fatal mistake, keeping one of the men alive for feeding, rather than attempt to move further into the village. He had lain in wait for an opportune moment to slay them, but not before one of them had named me as their sire.

I had felt a sudden fear and pain through my mate bond with Eliza. Following her scent through the village, I saw her, tied to a pyre in the middle of the square. One of the men we had called friend was yelling charges of witchcraft and consorting with a demon to the crowd. I felt a hand clutch my arm, thrusting my forward to the chants of ‘Demon’. While they may not have known the true nature of my species, I knew they had uncovered me as something their superstitions told them to fear. I tore myself free of their grasp and, to my shame, ran. Nowhere was far enough to escape the sounds of my sweet Eliza’s screams as she burned, her only sin being mated to me.

I opened my eyes, slamming my fists into the arms of the chair in anger. I had sworn after Eliza that I would never take another mate. If Nyx had tried to send me another, I had successfully avoided them all, until now. Casting a quick glance at Taylor’s sleeping form, I slipped out of the apartment into the early dawn hours. I needed air to clear my head, the memories of Eliza clinging to me, time having done nothing to quell the pain they brought. I wandered through town, no clear destination in mind, when I was hit by an overpowering scent. Wolves. There were wolves in the town.

I looked around, blinking, as the nights events came back to me. I sat upright with a start. I had fallen asleep in a vampire’s bed. A vampire who hadn’t seemed at all interested in me hanging around. The goddess Nyx had told me that it would be a struggle getting through to him. My emo

The wolves stayed, ordering drinks, well into the night. I had wracked my brain, trying to come up with a plan to free my vampire from their clutches. I didn’t want to risk putting myself in more danger by using magic. I wasn’t exactly skilled anyway; my mother had neglected to train me as well as she should have. I watched as Orchid’s advances towards the wolves were rebuked again and had an idea. “Hey hon.” I smiled as she pranced back to the bar for another drink. “One of those guys invited me back to their hotel after the bar closes down. RhazianPride welled in my chest and I quickly tamped it down as I held Taylor upright by her arm. She had been idiotic to conduct a rescue mission on my behalf. She was brave, but a brave idiot was still an idiot. Her scent was now all over the hotel room where we left the dead wolf. I groaned inwardly as I realized I would have to stash her somewhere safe. I wanted to be done with this mate business, but it seemed Nyx had chosen a stubborn one I couldn’t rid myself of easily.

Taylor Whispering down the hall drew my attention and I moved toward the voices. My reflection in the mirror stopped me in my tracks. I’m dreaming, I must be dreaming. I thought as I stared at my mother’s face in the mirror. She was younger than I remembered her. Looking down I saw the slight swell of my belly. She was pregnant, with me. Rhazian“What?” I sputtered, choking on the coffee I had been sipping to avoid drawing suspicious looks. “I said, who is Apollo.” Taylor enunciated each word as if I were too slow to understand without it. Tyler POV“Find her!” I snarled as I gazed upon my warrior’s limp body. His head was twisted in an unnatural angle, the room flooded with the scent of human. The vamp was gone, and it was clear he had assistance from a human. My warrior, Shane, had been busy removing the girl from the bar. She had apparently followed us back to the motel, intent on continuing her attempt to get into someone’s bed for the night. He had linked Mark to stay with the vamp. We hadn’t been able to kill him, none of the normal methods fo

Rhazian POVI felt myself moving toward her, as if being pulled by an invisible cord, as she flitted through the kitchen jotting notes on her paper. Before I knew what I was doing, I had her pinned between my body and the counter, one hand laid on the countertop on either side of her. Her scent wafted over me, warming my body. I was giving in to the pull of the mate bond, unable to stop myself. “Rhazian.” She breathed, pressing her hand against my chest as I tilted my head toward her. I pressed myself closer to her, feeling the sparks of our connection slowly roar to life.

Taylor POVI finished my meal in stunned silence. It seemed every time I had a chance to get closer to Rhazian, I only pushed him further away. Nyx had warned me that he was a damaged and broken man, but in my hubris I had thought it would be easy to piece him back together. Sighing, I stood to clear away the excess takeout bags from the table and find somewhere to store the food. I had barely begun clearing the food away when pain ripped through my head and I fell, reaching my hand out to steady myself. My vision darkened as I tumbled to the floor, tipping the small dining table over as I collapsed. For the second time, I found myself a passenger in someone else’s body. I was standing in the middle of a densely wooded area, a petite woman before me.

She motioned for me to make room as she lowered herself onto the bench beside me. “You know how it goes. Mom and Dad can’t keep their hands off each other. I had to get away from that.” I replied, scrunching my face in comical disgust. “You know, you can still come stay with us if you want. Chuck would love to have you help out with his little experiments.” She chuckled. My sister had b

I crept to the front of the cottage, peeking through the curtain, Rhazian close behind. Just beyond the porch stood the coven that had taken me from Rhazian’s mountain cabin. I could feel the anger rolling off my mate. If he were still immortal, he would have been outside, ripping them to pieces before I could say a word. I sent up a silent prayer of thanks that his invincibility had disappeared with the removal of Apollo’s curse. I didn’t want my mother’s people dead unless there was no other choice. “What do we do?” Miriam whispered. “Fae magic doesn’t work on witches.” “I should go out and talk to them.” I replied, squaring my shoulders in determination.

Taylor It had taken a couple days for us to be able to access the place where we had ended my father. Each attempt until than had resulted in a sudden confusion and feeling of being pushed away that we couldn’t deny. When we were finally able to reach the place, it was startlingly familiar. The earth was scorched as the earth in my vision of Titan’s downfall had been. My guardians were nowhere to be found. Sadness tugged at my heart as I realized that I had called them forth to be destroyed. There was happy news, however. Saveta was mortal again and had begun to age at a human rate. When Apollo lifted the curse from my mate, it was lifted from everyone that remained. The wolves he had turned to hybrids, thankfully, held no memory of their time as were-vamps. They described the time as floating in darkness, until

RhazianMy eyes scanned the misty field. It had been a touchy couple of weeks, but it was finally time to end Apollo’s threat once and for all. Taylor and I had arrived at the fae palace the day after Saveta had shown up at my door with wolves. The moment we were situated in our suite, I began summoning my creations. I had felt the ties lock into place as each one fell back under my control. The wolves had taken every opportunity to threaten my life once the war was won. It was clear there was no love lost between us even though I was currently an ally. Taylor seemed to have her own issues with the Fae queen. I would catch her glaring daggers at the woman when she thought nobody was looking. “Are you ready for this?” She whispered, squeezing my hand in hers.

TylerI couldn’t hear anything over the ringing in my ears. The moment the hybrid beast had begun twisting the cell bars, Chuck had fired several shots into her torso. She had shot him a deadly glare as she clutched her chest and collapsed to the ground. While her skin didn’t seem to react to the silver while in human form, the small tendrils of smoke coming from the bullet holes seemed to indicate there was an internal reaction. “Well, that was intense.” Chuck laughed as my hearing started returning to normal. “How the fuck did she do that?” “No idea. Maybe being in human form they’re more vamp than wolf?” Chuck shrugged. “She’s down for the moment though. Doesn’t look like the vamp sid

Rhazian Taylor looked terrified as I thrust her behind me. Saveta was the only person who knew where I was hiding out and she wouldn’t have knocked. I groaned inwardly at having chose a place with a front door situated in the living room as it shuddered under another thundering knock. “I don’t think they’re going away.” She hissed behind me. “If they keep pounding like that, the door is going to give. Better to answer it.” Nodding, I gestured for her to step into the hall. If our visitor were a threat, at least my mate would be out of sight and have a head start. I straightened my self to my full height as she followed my unspoken direction. One last glance to ensure my mate was hidden away and I strode to the door, pulling

I landed against something soft, the space around me filled with darkness. Moving to get my bearings, I realized I was in a bed, the comforter tangling around me as I moved. Even more startling than finding myself in a dark room, in a strange bed, was that I wasn’t alone. My eyes adjusting to the dark, revealed a man slumbering next to me, his breathing peaceful and easy. I scrambled from the bed, landing on the floor with a thud as the blankets captured my legs. “Who’s there!” The man demanded, bolting upright. “Oh, thank goddess, Taylor!” He moved too fast for me to see, pulling me tightly to his chest. He seemed to be familiar with me, but I wasn’t even sure who I was at the moment. I pressed my h

Scowling up at the open sky, I screamed my frustration at the two suns and moons that hung above my head. “This is ridiculous!” I wailed to myself. “I can’t even navigate by human means.” My stomach growled angrily as I became more and more lost.
