CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Hailey was treated like a plague by Duncan, even after the conversation with his mother. They had not spoken to each other for longer than five seconds at a stretch since their wedding. As Hailey lay in bed reflecting on her life, there came a knock on the door. A maid entered after she yelled, "Come in," telling her that breakfast was ready.

Hailey stated in a worn-out voice, "I'm not feeling well. Can I eat alone in my room?”

The maid nodded, setting up her breakfast on the small table in the corner. Hailey watched the maid leave, then turned back to stare at the ceiling.

Downstairs, Luna Grace arrived for breakfast and immediately noticed Hailey’s absence. “Where is Hailey?” she asked, her brow furrowing with concern.

“She said she wasn’t feeling well and asked to eat in her room,” a servant replied.

Luna Grace stood up, her face lined with worry. “Excuse me,” she said, leaving the dining room and heading up to Hailey’s room.
