Emily was well aware of everyone's gazes at her. The rejection that came out of her mouth was far from what everyone had expected, at least not in her current situation.

It was something she didn’t expect either, but the moment she saw Lucian right there, she felt the determination to stop whatever they had started.

Tears fell down her cheeks as her eyes bore into Lucian, who was frozen in his stance while looking back at her. He appeared shocked, as if his world had suddenly stopped spinning, and gave her a look that indicated she betrayed him.

He didn't expect it, did he? Emily asked her wolf inwardly, feeling the surge of pain engulfing her heart as Cassia began to howl in despair.

So this was what it felt like to reject a mate, she thought. A great sadness washed over her--the feeling that something had just suddenly gone missing and the urge to take it back… her heart was beating faster, too, as if undergoing an attack or something.

The mate bond had just finally broken.

Six years later… Beads of sweat broke along Emily’s hairline as she ran the busy streets of B city. She winced multiple times when she checked her wristwatch and tried not to bump into the people she passed by. She was late to pick up Nia again, all thanks to her boss, who forced her to extend her shift for another hour due to a bunch of employees from the company across from their restaurant that dined in the afternoon. The fast food she was working with was open 24/7, and her shift usually started at 3 a.m. and should end by twelve. Emily wiped her sweat away and tightened her ponytail. She turned to the left street and saw the kindergarten’s gate filled with parents picking up their children. Panting, she hurried inside the kindergarten and found her little girl riding a swing on the playground. A smile flashed on Emily’s lip, seeing her cute little daughter wearing the strawberry costume Nia asked to wear for their intermission that day. Her ginger-coloured bangs were sweaty,

“People around Nia are so kind towards her.” Emily sipped on her canned beer. “I really thought she was going to have some problem blending into those human kids in the kindergarten, but she got herself some human friends during her first day.” She chuckled. “You know, it’s amazing to see her happy and enjoying her life at a very young age.” A smile was plastered on her lips as she recalled how happy Nia was during her first day in kindergarten. Emily was hesitant when she decided to enroll Nia, afraid that humans would find out her little daughter was not normal. Nia was a special kid. Cassia found out that the Lycan blood was overpowering her werewolf blood, making her more of a Lycan rather than a werewolf. Even if she hadn’t come of age yet, whenever her little daughter’s emotions rose—particularly when angry, her irises would turn crimson. At first, Emily was shocked when she witnessed it in a grocery store on a busy day—Nia cried over a toy she wanted to have, but Emily was on

When she left the Lycan Blood pack six years ago, she promised herself that she'd forget everything about that pack. Everything. Emily knew it was the only way for her to move on: erase the painful things that happened there, not think of the people she had been with there, and forget that there was a phase in her life that occurred there that she once existed there. That decision had no exception. Emily sucked in a deep breath, looking in the vain. The memories of how she spent a day shopping with Laura, how they do girl talks at night, and how they laugh whenever they do something crazy flooded her mind. Those were precious memories—something she could never deny, but that's all there is. Even if she found a soul sister in Laura, some things are meant to be buried in her past, including their friendship. She could not see her. She didn't want to risk Nia's life--her little daughter's future. Nia was already happy in the human world, and Emily wanted to keep their life that way.

“Mama, look!” The soft breeze that blew her daughter’s ginger-colored hair indicated to Emily that a new season was coming. Winter. It was the most brutal season, not just because she had to clean the porch and backyard of their house almost every day, but also because it was the scary season when people usually jumped on to the fast food restaurant to have their hot teas and coffees.Raising her nose to the air, she looked at Nia, who ran towards her to show off the five stars on her wrist. Emily chuckled as she knelt before her little daughter, admiring how active Nia was regarding academic activities. A smart kid, indeed. “Wow! Good job, my love. That’s a lot of stars!” she exclaimed, ruffling Nia’s hair and giving her a kiss on the cheek. “What did you do to earn these stars?”“I answered my Math sheet and finished it on time, then I drew a forest and also sang my favorite song in front of my classmates. They all like my voice,” Nia proudly said, putting her hands on both sides

Emily gathered her hair and put it in a ponytail. With light makeup on and a pinkish lip tint she applied to compliment her white skin, she smiled as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. It was the day she'd go to a corporate company to apply for an entry-level position. It was an automobile company that was only twenty minutes from their home. She didn't want to work onsite for a far-away company, so she hoped to land a job at the company where she'd have an interview. "Are you ready for the interview?" Emily looked at the opened door through the mirror and found Lia leaning against the door frame and watching her. She nodded at her and sighed in determination. "For Nia," she said. It was the only motivation she had right now to toss away the anxiety building within her chest. "You'll make it, Em," Lia assured her. "You've had enough research and reviews. You're capable; I am sure they need someone as hardworking as you. You are an asset." "Thank you for boosting my conf

Emily’s heart was beating so fast as she got out of the cab. Her breathing was heavy as if a giant hand was choking her, while running towards the kindergarten, not noticing the tears wetting her cold cheeks. “Lia! Where’s my daughter?” She sobbed as she swallowed the lump in her throat, holding Lia on both hands and squeezing it tightly. “How come she is missing? Where’s teacher Smith?” She walked into every classroom, calling Nia’s name but not seeing her daughter there. Still trying to be hopeful, she ran to the restroom and checked each cubicle but found no trace of Nia. She then went to the second floor to check if Nia was in the indoor playground and library, but to no avail. “Nia!” Her chest tightened so much she could hardly breathe. Her mind and soul were filled with worry and dread. What if something happened to her daughter? No. She would not be able to forgive herself if that was the case. “Em, we already checked here. She’s really not here,” Lia said, following her a

Inside the coffee shop, the man put down the large tray of food on the table. A smile was evident on his lips as she noticed Nia's excitement to eat and drink her hot chocolate. The little girl clasped her hands together, her eyes showing she wondered which one among the pastries in front of her she would try first. She then looked at the man who sat across from her. "Are all these for me, Mister?" Nia asked politely. "Yes." The man nodded. "You said you were hungry." "Wow," she mouthed, eyes sparkling and feeling giddy. "Thank you, Mister. You're nice to save me and my growling tummy." He chuckled, shaking his head, not believing that a kid's simple, innocent words would make him feel delighted and comforted. "Let's eat, Mister!" Nia announced as she grabbed her fork to try pancakes. She'd got a big bite of it and swallowed it with satisfaction. Her feet began to kick in excitement. "This is sweet. I like it!" The man could not touch the pasta he ordered. It was like he was to

Something in Emily's mind kept saying she should not feel happy to see the Lycan King she escaped from years ago. Her feelings should never be tainted with happiness right now. She should feel furious, full of hatred, and protective of her daughter, who was in his arms. But her entire body felt otherwise. The longing she never acknowledged even once after Alpha Cain's car drove away from that secluded area where she got attacked by numerous Alphas; the kind of feeling of wanting to jump on his arms and feel his warmth, and the surge of unexplainable emotions in her heart whenever their eyes locked came back flooding in her body all at the same time. Emily gasped for air, hot tears forming on both sides of her eyes, but she blinked them away; she tossed aside all the crazy feelings that ran through her and reminded herself what she was going to deal with right now was not as simple as it may seem. "Mommy! I'm glad I'm home!" Nia's delighted voice echoed in her ears, making her come

Five hours later, Emily was already carrying Nia in her arms. They finally arrived in the Lycan Blood Pack territory and her daughter shivered at the sight of the land before them. “Mommy, I don’t like this place,” Nia said, trembling. “Where’s Daddy? Is he here?”Emily kissed Nia’s cheek trying to console her. “Daddy’s here. She needs you, Nia.” She took one of her tiny hands and kissed its knuckles. “Remember that day you showed me how you are able to bring the dead bird back to life?” Nia nodded her head, focusing on what Emily, her mother, had to say. Emily swallowed hard and carefully glanced at Nia. “Can you do the same thing to your Daddy…? B-Bring him back to life?” Her little girl’s eyes began to water. Nia was smart enough to realize what Emily meant by that. Her lips curved downward, and her chin trembled. “Daddy is dead, Mommy?” Nia’s voice cracked. Unable to control her emotions, Emily cried and nodded her head. “Y-Yes… Daddy is dead.”“No, Mommy,” Nia broke into te

Emily wailed in despair, her body trembling. She felt as if Lucian's death had become her death also… she sobbed as she hugged Lucian's dead body, kissing his forehead. "No… no, please, Lucian…" she cried. "Please don't do this to me. W-We need you… We haven't done so much together…" In the middle of her grievance, Alpha Cain ran inside the basement and came to a halt as soon as he saw her crying her heart out due to Lucian's passing. "Emily…" his voice sounded shocked. Sobbing, Emily turned her head to Alpha Cain, her heart consumed by fury. "Y-You…" "We need to get out of here," Alpha Cain said as he tried to compose himself. "Lucian's dead. We have to get out of here, otherwise, the other Alphas will kill you!" Emily growled angrily. She put Lucian down and immediately attacked Alpha Cain, using her Alpha power to push him with all force, which made him fly into the wall. The wall began to crack until it broke down. She didn't stop right there as she shifted to her wolf form

No longer caring about hurting and killing werewolf warriors from the enemy's side, Emily advanced mercilessly. Having Atlas and Laura backing her up was helpful, as the two fought other Alphas who tried to block her way. It didn't take long hours before she finally could see the towering mansion of the Silver Crest, which she guessed was where Scarlett was hiding. Emily sniffed in the air, smelling the familiar disgusting scent of her nemesis, Scarlett. The smell itself made all her emotions surge inside her. Her eyes were bloodshot as she looked up at the mansion. A growl escaped her throat before she made her way to the mansion's entrance. Without hesitation, she pushed the double doors open and scanned the first floor. It was dark, cold, and empty. "I believe you were looking for me," said the familiar voice that ignited her fury. "Long time no see." Emily looked up and found Scarlett staring down at her from the second floor, leaning against the railings while eating an apple.

Emily was stunned by the sight of the colossal convoy of trucks that stood in formation outside the arena. Atlas Kane motioned for her to inspect the trucks, and she complied without hesitation. She’d never seen so many weapons in her entire life. There were guns and rifles brimming with lethal silver bullets, and there were barrels containing syringes that had ominous wolfsbane liquid. She then turned her gaze towards the formidable gathering of hundreds of warriors behind the array of trucks, standing steadfastly and waiting for instructions from their Alpha. She spun to face Atlas Kane in awe. Emily never knew her new boss from the human town would be this helpful in times of a great war. “Well, I hope I brought enough.” Atlas Kane shrugged, sounding very arrogant as usual, only by now, Emily didn’t feel irritated with how he talked. She was, in fact, thankful as the weapons and warriors would absolutely help them in the counterattack. She looked at Tyler and Laura, whose eyes

Emily looked up at the night sky and took a sigh. She was sitting on the stairs of the arena's double doors for almost an hour, guarding the entire place from possible attacks from their enemies. Her mind was filled with worry. The pack was in horrible shape; the smoke and fires not far away from her indicated that the situation could be worsened more, and she had no idea to what extent this war would go further. She stared up blankly at the silver moon in the sky, hoping it would give her much strength to carry on with helping the remaining pack members and save Lucian. Wherever Nia's father was at the moment, may the Moon Goddess help him survive no matter what; he needed to stay alive for them. 'Scarlett is the root cause of all this mess. She has to pay for everything that she ruined, Em,' said Cassia through the mind link, seething with anger as the wolf snarled with its eyes glowing. 'If something happens to Nia's father, I swear I won't let it slide.'"We won't let it slide,"

Emily was enraged. Her eyes were bloodshot, and all she thought about was killing the alpha who she was seated on when Laura screamed to stop her. "Emily, no! We still need him to track Lucian!" said Laura. Her chest went up and down, her hand stopped in the air, and deep within, she wanted to go on. But hearing Laura's words, her mind was again filled with chaos. Before Alpha Ray could land a punch on her, she hit him on the neck as hard as she could, targeting his nerves to immobilize him. Three Lycan warriors came to her when she stood up. "Luna!" They all bowed their heads as a form of respect. "Take him. Please do everything you can so he won't escape. We still need him," she ordered. The Lycan warriors were quick to follow Emily's command. Her gaze followed them as they left, and then she glanced in Laura's direction. Her face immediately softened as she looked at her sister-in-law, and in one swift move, she ran towards her and embraced her. "Emily, you're back," Lau

Panic increased in Emily's chest, her mind utterly haywire. Her heart pounded so loud that she couldn’t breathe. After learning the bad news from Alpha Atlas Kane, she sprinted out of his office, not minding these human employees who might have seen her use her heightened speed. It only took a minute for her to be able to go home, and she instantly went to Lia, who was in the living room together with the kids, Elle and Nia. "Mommy, did you teleport?" Nia asked out of curiosity and rubbed her eyes before looking at Emily again. "Mommy, you teleported!" "No, Nia. Your Mom sprinted as fast as the wind," Elle corrected. "How did she do that?" "Emily, what happened?" Lia rose from her seat and went to Emily. Her whole body shook as if she was still trying to process the news she heard from Alpha Atlas. She looked at Lia with utmost fear and worry, and all she did was hold Lia's arm when she felt her knees weakened due to her welled-up emotions. She gasped for air as the negativ

"I suggest you relax, Em," Lia suggested with a smile. They were in the living room, watching the television, but Emily could not pay attention. She kept looking at her phone, waiting for Lucian's text message or call. It had been a week since he left for some pack affairs, and Emily hadn't heard from him since then. He sent him a few text messages, but those even went on read at all. "It's just weird for him to not check his phone for that long," Emily reasoned. "Do you think there's a problem in the pack right now? I can't help but worry.""It's impossible. Your husband's pack is the strongest, and he and Tyler can surely handle problems in the pack," Lia assured her, passing the popcorn on her. Emily smiled a bit, but the worry remained in her chest, or maybe she just really missed him. She didn't know. The feelings she had for Lucian went deeper and stronger, and her mind seemed only to know nothing but scream Lucian's name. It was cringed, but that's how she described it. "Le
