A Deal With the Devil

Trevor stared back at Alana, not knowing how to respond to her bold way of walking towards him. He had noticed her as soon as he stepped into the bar because she was exceptionally beautiful.

With her straight blonde hair and her lean, tall body, she looked like a model and he wouldn’t even be surprised if that was her profession. The wine gown she wore wasn’t revealing but it had a seductive appeal towards it or maybe it was just the person wearing it that had that effect.

He knew he had heard her name from somewhere but he couldn’t pinpoint from where. He didn’t know her but her name certainly did ring a bell.

“You’re drunk.” Trevor deadpanned, turning away from her and returning his focus to his drink.

Alana was almost discouraged with his bland and cold response but something in her pushed her to not back down. Maybe it was because she had drank too much but she wasn’t ready to give up just yet.

“I’m not.” Alana retorted and Trevor glanced up at her.

Her quick response threw him off guard slightly, and for a moment, he didn’t know what to say. Then, the lady stepped forward and pulled out a chair, sitting across from him.

His irritation increased as he didn’t invite her to sit but it seemed that didn’t faze her in the slightest. The determination to get through him was written all over her face.

“You have to hear me out.” Alana pressed, her tone shifting from casual to urgent.

“I have no reason to.” Trevor finished the last of his drink before calling the waiter to refill his cup.

“But it’s something that will interest you.” She continued with her advances, trying to get his attention.

“Well, I am not interested. Return to your table and let me continue my night in peace.” Trevor shunned her away but Alana was persistent.

“What if I said it had to do with Drake Manchester? Your rival?” Alana’s smile was victorious when Trevor paused, directing his attention to her again.

She could see the wheels of his head turning, trying to figure out what game she was playing at. She liked the thrill of having the upper hand of the conversation, and she wasn’t planning on letting it go anytime soon.

“He is none of my concern. Now, leave.” Trevor sipped from his refilled drink.

“Oh, but he should be.” Alana wasn’t still ready to back down. “That bastard cheated on me, and now, he’s trying to destroy my company. I also have evidence on the dirty deeds he has been doing and the illegal deals he made to expand his company. Isn’t that a great scandal to bring him down?”

Trevor turned towards Alana when he heard her statement. He could feel his blood boiling at her words.

There was nothing more he hated in this word than those who cheated on their partners. They were nothing but pigs who had not a single ounce of humanity in them. To break such a sacred bond of love for lust.

He was pissed to hear that Drake had cheated on such a beautiful lady but still, that was none of his business.

He wasn’t shocked that she knew who he was but he was impressed by her boldness to approach him with this. Most times, people were too terrified by his demeanor.

“Still not my concern.” He finished the alcohol and it burned his throat, lessening the thoughts in his head.

“I need your help to take Drake down. I can’t let him ruin the company I gave my everything to build.” Alana’s tone was desperate now as Trevor wasn’t relenting. “I am powerless and I need someone like you to help me do this.”

“And why should I do this for you? The last time I checked, I wasn’t freaking Santa Claus.” Trevor hissed, getting frustrated at how she wasn’t backing down.

“I-I know.” Alana paused, feeling stupid for approaching him now. Tears blurred her eyes as she felt embarrassed by her actions.

The man had only come here to enjoy a drink and she was here, disturbing him for something that he had no business in. But what else could she do? She didn’t know where else to go or who to meet.

Everything was falling apart and her debts were increasing day by day. Her company would be shut down in a few weeks and she wouldn’t even be able to fight back the monster who did this to her.

There were no other options at hand. Trevor Halland was her last and only option.

“I know you have absolutely nothing to do with my troubles but still, just hear me out.” Alana muttered.

Trevor was flustered when he saw the tears glimmering in Alana’s eyes. He didn’t mean for his words to cut deep that way, and now, he felt bad that he was about to make her cry.

Seeing her in this state reminded him of his mother and how she would cry day and night because of the betrayal of her husband.

He had tried to block out all the memories of that period in his life but seeing Alana now brought them all back.

“Or at least think about it.” Alana took out the pen and tissue and scribbled something down. “Here, this is my number and email. You can call or just message me once you have made up your mind.” Alana handed it to Trevor but he stared at it as though it were cow dung.

He was hesitant to accept her direct move. Even though she looked pitiable, this could also be another scheme of Drake’s to bring him down.

One could never be sure and in this industry, one had to always thread carefully.

Knowing he wasn’t going to take it from her, Alana bravely leaned forward and pushed it down his breast pocket. Just then, Trevor grabbed her wrist, drawing Alana towards him.

“Don’t you dare.” He hissed, glaring up at her but she ignored the threat in his voice and looked up at him.

Everything behind her faded away as she locked eyes with him.

His green eyes were attractive from up close, and Alana could feel the tension between them shifting into something else. Something more…volatile.

Trevor didn’t miss it either and he found himself staring at her small plump lips which were parted open. Blood rushed through his veins and he had the sudden urge to loosen his tie as heat filled his body.

The warmth of her hand in his suit lingered and Trevor finally let her go, looking away.

“Don’t you ever touch me without my permission.” He said, his voice low and firm.

His heart was pounding harder than it should have and it was like he had ran a marathon in that split second connection they had.

Alana mumbled an apology under her breath, realizing that she had overstepped with her move. “Please, just think about it and reach out to me.”

Not wanting to pester him further, she stood up and adjusted her dress before glancing at him one last time. “I’ll be awaiting your response.” she muttered and turned around to walk away.

“What was that, Alana?” Norah asked with shock as Alana returned to the counter to retrieve her phone and purse.

“I just struck a deal with the devil.” Alana flashed a smile at her friend before dropping the bill on the table.

“What deal?” Norah was curious to know what her friend had talked about with Trevor Halland.

“Oh, one don’t kiss and tell, honey.” Alana winked seductively at her best friend before dragging her out of the bar. “Let’s go somewhere else for round two!”

Trevor watched as Alana left the bar with her friend, her figure fading into the night. He could feel the weight of the tissue in his pocket, a reminder of the strange encounter he just had with the lady.

He didn’t want to agree to the deal she proposed but he could already feel himself mulling over it. He wasn’t one to participate in the act of ruining someone else, even if that person was his rival but she won him over when she revealed that Drake had cheated on her.

He knew Drake Manchester was a fool but he only confirmed it now. How could one cheat when he had such a gorgeous lady by his side? Trevor couldn’t just understand the way some men lived.

After a moment, he pulled the tissue out of his pocket and stared at her pretty cursive handwriting, thinking about what she said.

He hated that his mind was already made up–he was going to help Alana Monrael.
