Chapter 3 Mate

Oliver always had a soft spot for Zane, after all, he watched her grow into a beautiful young lady, witnessed her lash out at those young wolves bullying the omegas, use her pure and kind heart while appearing nonchalant and prideful. He knew her character and he commends her for it. Zane may appear domineering and bratty, but he can never deny that she is a good person.

“You see, the person telling you this should be your father, sweetie, I know you still can’t accept things, but you are a smart child, don’t let her get to you. Don’t worry, I will always believe in you. Now come here and let us hurry back, that stinky dog must be wrecking his head worrying about you.

Zane nodded her head and followed him. Of all people, her uncle Oliver has always been the one who knows and supports her, even if things start to get really messy, he is always the first person who believes in her. The man will always spare some time for her, to comfort and assure her with things.

He is just like a mother she never had. Although she doesn't look for her mother, she knows that she is watching over her wherever she may be.

Arriving at the packhouse, Zane immediately went to her room and prepared to sleep. She is tired and will be incapable of keeping her emotions in check, so it is better if she just sleeps and thinks things through tomorrow.

Morning came and it was time for her to face her father, last night she promised her uncle Oliver that she will talk to him and explain herself, although forced, she still thought that it is just right to talk to him.

Sitting in front of the dining table, Zane watched Victoria and her father peacefully eating as if she wasn't there, feeling a little left out as the two of them constantly talked and appeared as if it was her who just arrived and Victoria had been with him for 21 years.

The feeling of being treated as a stranger has been eating upon her as she forced herself to swallow the food on her plate. The built-up frustrations inside her threatening to burst if it was mishandled.

After their meal, Zane decided to talk with her father later and left to train in the woods and meet with her friends.

“Zane, how are you? We heard what happened.” Olivia said and worriedly held her hand, she knew all too well how difficult it is for Zane, to suddenly know that she has a sister and just a week with her and she was already reprimanded by her father that badly in front of everyone.

Olivia thought that Victoria is weird, the woman just appeared out of nowhere, and for all those years that she could possibly appear before her family, she did it now. Olivia trusts her instincts more than ever, and knowing her father and brother, they will of course side with Zane, they know her just so well.

Glancing at Helen and Gladys silently standing at the sideline, reluctant to comfort Zane.

“What are you guys doing? Do you actually believe those rumors? We all know Zane never bullies anyone, she might do it but she always has righteous reasons, come on!” puzzled by Olivia’s statement, Zane glanced at her and asked.

“What rumor? Oli?” reluctant of lying to her, Olivia guiltily spilled what happened during the days she cut everyone off.

“Rumour has it, that you….. Uhm is bullying Victoria.” squinting her eyes to see if Olivia was telling the truth, Zane then looked at her friends in annoyance.

“You guys should know better than even if I am pissed as hell, I would never do that!” seeing the reluctant looks on her friends, Zane grabbed Olivia’s wrist and left, she is the only one who trusts her. She can’t believe that leech was able to poison everyone’s thoughts about her that fast!

“Zane, are you really sure that she is your sister? I mean you can ask Alpha Lester to conduct a blood test and see if you really are related.” Zane dismissed the idea immediately, saying her father would think of it as an insult especially if it comes out positive. Olivia nodded her head in understanding, their alpha would immediately flip them over after hearing that.

“Let's just let her be, I don’t care, dad won’t even bother with it.” She felt helpless and tired, resigned to just letting her do what she wanted as long as she stayed away from the throne.

Because by law, Zane had the most chances of being the next alpha as long as she had a mate strong and capable.

Sitting in front of the pack members, Zane could feel their discerning eyes at her and she felt bad. It was even worse how they pretended to just stare and admire her when in truth, she can clearly hear them shitting her out.

A few minutes later, Olivia arrived with her brother, Lukas Lilac, and sat beside her immediately. She really felt thankful that Oli believed her after all the nasty rumors.

And a few seconds after, Victoria arrived with Helen and Gladys who ditched her just this morning, Zane did not spare them a glance but Olivia was seething in anger just by seeing the traitors happily chatting at the other side of the table.

This night was the night where everyone gathers to celebrate the monthly pack dinner and happily spend time with everyone, and at the end of the diners is where the alpha asks her pack about their thoughts, requests, and things they are against.

“Alpha, beta” everyone greeted as they bowed their heads to wait for his confirmation. Along with them is Lukas Lilac who stood frozen in front of Victoria.

“You may sit.” Everyone obeyed but Victoria and Lukas remained standing while looking at each other deeply.

Understanding what was happening, various murmurs erupted as they glanced at Zane who sat there paled.

“Mate” “Mine” both growled as they walked closer to each other and transformed into their wolf forms. Victoria’s rare white wolf Kali purred as she snuggled into the mighty chest of Holo, Lukas’s red wolf who was clearly showing his dominant side to everyone.

The two majestic wolves howled and followed with the pack’s cheers and congratulations.

“This night is a glorious night to celebrate, as we all just witnessed, my youngest daughter just met her mate, young Lukas. Tonight the booze is on me.” Lester boasted as he gleamed in joy, his daughter met her mate and fortunately someone he could trust. The whole night Lester and the pack celebrated till dawn, completely forgetting the existence of another child of their alpha.

Oliver worriedly glanced at the now empty table and disappointedly shook his head, Lester did awfully more than ever. He must have forgotten how he stupidly made Zane believe that Lukas will be her mate ever since they were young. Imagining the hurtful expression Zane had right now, Oliver can only sigh and give it to his friend for being the most idiotic wolf he had ever met. The man clearly gets swayed easily.

That is also the reason why he touched another woman just after his wife gave birth. It was a secret from everyone how Lester cheated on his mate after she gave birth.

Although he was also the victim, to know that someone is plotting against you is a must especially with his sensitive senses.

Oliver could still remember how Zaiah begged him to keep her child safe. That one eventful night where someone plotted against the couple. A rumor broke out that Zaiah was eloping with someone and the child she bears is not his and Lester idiotically believed it, after all, he was a very insecure man.

Angered by what he heard, Lester drank himself off and woke up in a bed with a woman, and Zaiah’s best friend Tori who came to inform him that Zaiah just gave birth and the child looked just like him, saw them ambiguously on the bed naked.
