Our family's residence was just as I remembered it. Completely devoid of warmth.

Guards littered every corner as always, and the servants all stood in a straight file in the large living room. I felt Zeke's hands hold my wrists reassuringly, reminding me that I wasn't alone.

“You're here,” my mother's smile froze on her lips, when her gaze darted towards a cold-faced Zeke.

She didn't get to speak, when my father came inside.

Words choked in my throat, and a disbelieving look made its way up my face.

“What's the meaning of all these?” I asked in a cracked voice.

My father ignored me, his focus on Zeke. “And who's this person?”

“Someone you'd regret crossing.” Zeke said, and in spite of myself, chills ran down my spine.

My father's face darkened, but before he could say a word, I stepped forward taking a protective stance before Zeke.

“Don't move.” I said.
