Chp 16 Part 4 The Traitor

By the time I finally catch up to the horses I hear howling in the distance. It’s River and he’s alerting there is danger. I look at the horses reins and realize they had been cut. I’ve been so stupid, I should’ve never left her alone.

“Aspen!”

I hear Maliyah calling me, panic in her voice. I race back to the river as fast as I can. Once I arrive at the spot we were swimming at, I see River unconscious and a huge man with Maliyah on his shoulders. Next to him is that bitch Carole. She has a sly grin as I rush towards them but I am not fast enough. The man must’ve been a warlock since they disappear just as I was about to tackle him. I end up on the ground and slam my fist down.

“Maliyah!” I rush to River’s side and check on him. I pull out a dart and see several more littered on the ground. Being a dragon, it must’ve taken more than they though to put Maliyah down.
