“Avoid him from now on.” Beck warned, as all three of them shot her accusing looks. She glanced at Koty who couldn’t even keep his eyes open.

“I’m sorry… I …” she stuttered in confusion.

“Just do what I said.” Beck repeated harshly then they walked away. Beck and Francis supporting Koty on either sides. It was then she noticed they had a small audience gathered around, her friends included.

She watched helplessly as they moved farther and farther away from her.

She wasn’t allowed into the clinic where Koty rested; Francis, Beck and Jude made sure of that. She couldn’t concentrate on her books, she avoided her friends perpetual questions and then hurried home immediately the bell rang. Koty was the only thing on her mind, she felt guilty but then she consoled herself with the fact that she had not done anything wrong. She had not known Koty was asthmatic and even if she knew, was she supposed to have accepted his proposal out of pity? Koty didn’t deserve that, he deserved someone

“There’s Koty.” He pointed out.“That’s different. I only felt like giving in out of pity.”“Glad you've figured that out.”“And besides he’s just one guy.”He nodded.“We'll just get married to each other.” He said after a while. She chuckled, “That sounds nice. Our kids will have your eyes.”“I’m joking.”“I’m not.”“I’m not.”They burst out laughing.*King looked back as the train began moving. He watched as she became smaller and smaller until he could see her no more then he turned around and looked ahead. He adjusted his bag to his other shoulder when he noticed it was inconveniencing the old woman sitted next to him and then he leaned back into his seat and immersed himself in thoughts of her; his best friend, Joan Michaels. She was always on his mind. He had teased her about thinking of him always but he was also guilty of that. She was not exactly the first thing he thought of when he woke and the last thing he thought before he slept but she was constantly on h

She would pet him and clean his wounds and then send him back with a kiss; so that every time, no matter the injuries he sustained on his body, his soul wasn’t broken. He still felt happy, like a normal eighteen year old adult living a normal life with the best friend he loved.*Joan stood in front of the school's clinic door, glaring at it. Koty was in there and also his latest bodyguards; Francis, Beck and Jude. Koty was fine, he had come to the clinic for something and she found out and followed him. She had to speak to him whether his friends wanted her to or not; they weren’t his parents. The door opened and Beck stepped out first. His calm look changed to an accusing one when his eyes met hers and he glared daggers at her, stopping his movement.“I have to speak to him.” She spoke regardless, arms folded. It seemed like Koty was directly behind him because he turned back and said,“Colton, no. You’re not speaking to this girl.”“This girl has a name.” she interrupted rudely

“I am sorry.” He said finally, letting out a long sigh, “I just… don’t worry so much about me. I can take care of myself.”“I know, you are a big boy. It’s because I care about you that I worry about you.”“I care about you too, you know.”“I know.”A pause.“I'll see you later.” He said and the call ended. She lay back on the bed and shut her eyes.*King stared at the phone in his hands. He wished he could see her.“Hey, you want one?”He looked up to see Jack standing a few feet away from him, smoking a cigarette.Jack was an acquaintance from school. He had invited him to hang out with him and his friends and he had agreed, to avoid going home.He was now in one of their houses, in the living room but he had left to go outside when Joan called. Thankfully, she didn’t hear the music.“No, thank you.” He smiled, leaning off the wall, going back to the house.“Who were you talking to? Some whore?” He glanced back to see Jack following after him.“You can hook me up.”

“King?” she whispered, turning around and there he was in all his glory. She cried out as a heavy load lifted off her chest and she didn’t hesitate to run into his open arms.“You scared me, King! Stop doing that!” she exclaimed, hitting his back.He hissed in pain and she quickly let him go, examining his features.“Did he hit you?” she asked though she already knew the answer. There were no new bruises on his face, just the old ones that were almost done healing but the scars… she would have to get something for that.“Yeah” he muttered, “And then someone else.”*He woke up to see himself tied up, his hands and feet. He pulled against the ropes, they were too tight. He looked around the brightly lit room. It was someone’s bedroom, a male and recently used noticeable by the unmade bed and the clothes strewn around. He sighed, laying his head back on the floor. He should never have agreed to hang out with Jack. He had agreed mainly because he didn’t want to be tempted to go ov

“Hey! Are you okay!?”He stood up, looking behind just in time to see the door slam shut then he looked to the direction where the female voice had come from. A woman likely in her late fourties and a girl, about his age, stood staring at him from the opposite lawn. He bent his head, throwing his hoodie cap over it and then he walked away quickly.*King watched Joan while she stared at him dumbly from the bed where she sat cross-legged while he leaned against her desk. Her head was tilted to the side a little, her lids blinking continuously. He had just finished narrating his tale to her. He had told her everything, everything but the note he found in his pocket and the person who had been trailing him on his way to her home. Her blinking stopped and she straightened, her features going blank.“I…” she started, pushing her braids back. He liked it when she did that.“I don’t know what to say.” She spoke, “You just got yourself in big trouble.” She added, her eyes clouding with w

“You don’t have to.” She told him.“I told you it’s not because I don’t want you to see it.”She stared at him for some time before moving closer to the bed and getting in it. She moved behind him. A gasp escaped her mouth and then she placed a hand on his back. He stiffened.*Joan’s fingers trailed down King’s back. So much bruises. There was the indentation of a fist at the upper part of his back, just on the slope of his back right under his neck. The person must have hit really hard.He suffered too much, too much and yet he was always happy, that cheerfulness in him even when he was angry, hurt or sad was always there. She admired that.If she had to be honest with herself, she would say she admired King, looked up to him. He was always full of surprises, charming her out of her wits. He wasn’t only a best friend to her, he was a brother; sometimes older, sometimes younger; he was a crush, in the sense that she admired him; even a father; when he went all responsible and

A cold voice cut through the moment. She jumped away from Merlione, looking guilty and nervous as a drenched fish."Vincent," She called in greeting, trying to match his cold look. He eyed her up, also Merlione who came to stand protectively by her side. She wondered why she felt so nervous and guilty. Perhaps because she knew she needed the approval of King's family.Frederico stepped forward, looking unbothered. "We heard the news. What happened?""He called me," she answered smartly, "he called me just before he lost consciousness.""How did you know where he stays?""He told me." She was less nervous now but there was someth

She threw her phone aside with a satisfied smirk, "he asked for it. Imagine telling me to apologize after openly stating he didn't take it to heart. She thought of going to see King but the memory of Vincent's cold face crossed out the thought. She visited Isla instead.*"Surprise, surprise." Isla's eyes were wide as she ushered her into her modest penthouse in the early afternoon of a Monday. The house was pretty small but comfy. A set of mismatched couches in the middle, an eating area to the right, a TV at the center, a few flowers in antique vases kept at strategic corners, and a treadmill close to a door she assumed led to the room."I checked you at work but I was told you wouldn't be at work for the rest of the week. Is there a problem?"Isla laughed, passing her a glass of water after she sat on one of the couches, "Must there be a problem?""No, but one doesn't just take a leave from work, do they?"Isla wrinkled her nose. She looked pretty. Her long red hair was now shoulder length and she looked very relaxed at home in pajama shorts and a too baggy T-shirt."Ok," She plopped down beside her and tucked her legs in, "I

"Ok, but I'll like to remind you that until this case is resolved, you are still, as it is, married to Merlione Fritzgerald and it is holy that you remain faithful to your vows."She smiled, "Yes, Father."He rose. She did too."You don't mind if I pray for you?"*She returned to her current temporal house, as she chose to call it, after spending some time in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. She put on her nicest dress, applied makeup which she seldomly did, wore her best heels, and styled her hair until she looked the part of a queen. She sat in the living room and waited for Merlione to return.
