Taylor's face was squeezed into a tight frown. The look on Nate’s face could have torn her apart instantly. The look on Grace's face was even more unbearable. She had known Nate’s family for years and she’d never seen Grace look as angry as she did.

A part of her was scared but with her father and some of his men by their side, she didn’t have much to worry about.

She was even more upset that Grace chose Ruby over her. She had known the family for years and did all she could to impress her but she failed each time.

She had tried to impress Grace once by going into business but the business came crashing down in less than a month.

“I won’t take unruly behavior from you or your child” Grace warned as anger clouded her face

“She attacked my daughter and she ended up unconscious in a hospital. She could have died!” Mrs Wyatt fired

Shiver ran through Emily’s body as she remained quiet. The guilt was evident on her face as she feared that Grace found out that she slapped Ruby.

“Hunny, are you good?” Esme asked for the thousandth time that afternoon Mark had given Ruby a week off to heal from all that had happened. Esme’s tummy was now twice the size it used to be, the doctors had said she was due soon but the good side to it was that she wasn’t as emotional anymore. It felt like all the pregnancy symptoms she used to have during her first trimester were now gone. “I’m in shock, I’m drained emotionally” Ruby admitted sadly A new ramen spot had opened in town so they decided to try it out. Ruby had noticed that somehow , she was always excited for good food so she thought it would make her feel better. It had been a week since she saw Nate and she felt empty. Everyday got worse than the previous one.At first, she had spent a couple of days in bed crying her eyes out, stuffing her face with ice cream and chocolates and then watching sad romance movies. “Tell me a

“What do you think of repainting the walls of the park?” Adam asked “It doesn’t sound bad” Nate mumbledHe tried to focus but that seemed impossible. Why had Ruby not returned his calls or text? Had she gotten the flowers? Had she been crying? Had her scars healed? “Katie is mad at me. I went riding at the polo club the other day and I had hoped to impress her but somehow, she fell off her horse” Adam said as he rubbed his palms together and sat on a bench. Nate scoffed. His mind was too occupied by so many things to be interested in Adam’s love story. They had decided to take a walk around the park and note areas that needed major renovation. The bench croaked at the impact of Nate’s weight when he sat down.Almost everything was messed up, most of the infrastructure was old and looked like they were begging for help. The first thing Nate did was to destroy the little hut Wyatt had built. Memories of Jake looking lifeless there had haunted him. “Want to talk about what

It was the first time she had an opportunity to meet with Doris after months of her hiding. Ruby smiled as she brushed her hair into a bun. For some sort of reason, she was excited to see her old friend as it had been long since they met each other. Doris used a couple of burner phones to text her, each time she texted her, it was a new number. A week ago, she had asked Ruby to get a journal for her. The journal belonged to Wesley and it contained business transactions and some proof of Wyatt’s involvement in major frauds. Ruby had been skeptical about it, she knew Nate kept most of Wesley’s belongings in the basement but she knew it wasn’t in her place to go through his late fathers stuff also, it wouldn’t make any sense for her to surprise Nate by telling him that she had been working with Doris who was wanted by Wyatt and had been labeled a dangerous woman. On the spur of the moment, she decided to get the journal from the basement and other things Doris had said she’d

The day was rather chilly. Ruby hadn’t paid attention to the weather forecasters but it was a good thing her mother always ensured she had a big breakfast and she was ready to start the day. Doris had asked to meet at a Pilates class which was rather awkward but then she explained that it was the only place she could hide at without getting noticed. The women there were so invested in their yoga and Pilates, Ruby remembered they said something about exchanging energy or connecting energy, whichever it was, she wasn’t interested in it. She was also glad she was finally going to meet Roberta, they hadn’t texted much but they had an understanding. Ruby admired how the women were able to strike different poses easily, most of them had looked at her rather awkwardly because she was dressed in boots and jeans not sportswear. She smiled at a few of them and made her way to the dressing room where Doris and Roberta awaited her. “Doris!” She exclaimed and then put her hand ove

Ruby pulled out the journal from her bag and handed it over to Doris. She had been tempted to take a look at it but then she suffered so much guilt and decided not to. She knew how angry Nate was going to be when he found out that she took it without his permission. Grace had told her that he single-handedly moved some of his father’s belongings to his house with the intention of looking at them, to know what kind of man his father was but he never really had a chance to do so as it hurt everytime he tried. Ruby sighed as she watched Doris and Roberta go through the book, she wished Nate had gone through the book by himself, that way, he would have discovered more. “You have to return the book immediately you’re done” Ruby said, she wasn’t feeling as enthusiastic as she felt in the beginning. “I would,” Doris replied. “Wyatt has been waiting for my publication for a while and I’ve delayed because I needed more things to use against him. At first, I wanted to reveal what real

The women sat on the floor, legs crossed against the other leg. Doris sat in the middle while flipping through the book while Roberta took notes and Ruby watched them. With a few days left until the wedding and a few weeks to the election, they needed to come up with a good story that would send Wyatt off for good. “Do you mean that Mr jacobin kept record of Wyatt’s activities all these while?” Ruby asked, surprised by the content of the book “I’m as surprised as you are” Doris shook her head, she was still flipping through the book in hopes to find something about her husband. She was glad everything was going to come to an end soon, after that she was going to leave the country and be United with her son again. “Also, it says here that Nate was supposed to inherit the company that Mr Jacobin and Wyatt had together because Mr Jacobin had seventy percent of the company and he pretty much started the company on his own with little to no help from Wyatt” Doris explained “It

There was a long line of people at the cafe when Ruby got in. It was typical, it was lunch break and she had very much expected it. Nate’s company was located at one of the most industrialized cities in Oregon and most companies around had the same lunch break. She quickly found an empty table before it got filled up. Nate in his now usual manner had sent flowers to her and left her a note, wishing her a great day. Everything about him left her amazed and she wanted him more. Esme had thought him old fashioned for writing a little note to her but Ruby had to admit to herself that it was one of the most romantic gestures she had received in her life, not that she had received many anyway. His scent had lingered into the letter and she went about her day, sniffing the letter occasionally as she craved for his attention and his familiar sweet smell. He was the perfect mix of old fashioned and modern day. Nate had the mentality of taking care of his woman, providing for her and p

She smiled thankfully when the waiter brought her coffee, it was just how she liked it. She had to admit how incredibly proud of Nate she was. Despite all that had happened, he was still focused on his business and was making big waves. Rumor had it that he was going to win businessman of the year again. She smiled sadly, she wanted to be by his side when he won. Just like she watched in movies, when a man won an award, he would call his wife to join him on stage and talk about how awesome she is and how she contributed to his success. She stirred the coffee and fixed her eyes back on his office. The crowd was already thinning out for lunch break, which she liked because she didn't want anyone to catch her stalking and drooling over Oregon’s hottest boy. Her eyes lit up as she watched him walk into the office. She knew the familiar frown on his face, the frown that he had on when he had a long meeting. She smiled softly, she longed to stroke his face and tell him everything w

Everything about it made him tired, just thinking about it made him tired. He held Ruby’s soft hand, not wanting to let it go. Even though they had not given a name to the situation between them,he loved everything about her. He was ready to take years off on vacation with her where there was nothing to disturb him. Nate walked her to her car as usual. He noticed how sad she looked throughout the date. Her eyes held fear and her lips held back words from him.He was scared and so was she. The Italians caused so much damage to everyone, courtesy of Wyatt and his family. He understood how unsafe she was. "Thank you so much, Nate,"she smiled as she unlocked her car.She loved how kind he was, even though they had quarreled most of the time, he didn’t forsake her. He wished he could teleport into her mind and figure out what is wrong with her. Ruby had an ego and won't tell anyone if she had any problem. He shook his head sadly. "Ruby" he began softly, treading carefully. "Is there anything that is troubling you?" He watched her swallow the lump in her throat before she continued. "No, nothing," she said, plastering a fake smile on her face. "I've just been very tired recently, you know, work here and there" He knew she was lying but allowed her to have her way. Marco paced angrily, a cigarette in hand. Taylor Wyatt wasn't making things easy for him. He had taken her to different islands and thrown the biggest parties for her friends. He sighed as he drew in his smoke, how annoying could the spoiled brat get? So far, her father's campaign was doing just fine and he had a good chance of winning the election. It was crazy that the office for the minister of finance election was more popular than that of the election for the office of president. This was because very influential people were running for the post of Minister of finance. Occupying the office gave them free access to the country's wealth and they could loot money as much as they wanted to. He spent the last week acting all lovey-dovey with Taylor. She made him buy her expensive designer bags. He was comforted by the fact that the new development site was doing just fine and he had a lot of shares in the company. Roberta stretched tiredly . Mommy duties were stressing her. She had woken up early to bathe Lorenzo , feed him and take him to school. She drew out a carefully planned family tree for him. His school’s principal had called her back the next day. Rebecca stood her ground that getting the children involved with aspiring candidates was dangerous. Some of the candidates were dangerous themselves and would go the extra mile to harm innocent children in order to attain political positions. The principal brushed it off as nothing and assured her that he had everything under control. He said that Wyatt was only being generous and concerned about the children’s welfare. He had donated a huge sum of money and promised them a new basketball court. Of course, Wyatt was the least interested in the children’s welfare. He only wanted their support in the upcoming elections and he had invited reporters to take pictures of him as he donated money to the school. The interior decorator for th

After a long day, Roberta returned home. The smell of her mother’s freshly baked cakes welcomed her. Her mouth watered immediately. “Mommy!” Lorenzo yelled happily as he played around his mother’s feet. She scooped her little delight into her arms and rained kisses on him. She did a good job masking the sadness she felt. When Carl was eating, she noticed some scars on his hands due to the moving of his shirt. She panicked, fresh tears falling off her eyes the third time. She scolded him for subjecting himself to such harsh punishment. He brushed it off, saying it was nothing important. Her heart shattered into a million pieces when she forced him to take off his shirt. The scars ran all the way from his nape to his lower back. It was obvious that he was attacked because of her and that was the reason he hadn’t contacted for a while. She prayed Lorenzo was nothing like that. She helped him apply ointment even though he assured her that he was doing just fine. When he w

She pinched herself,it was too early to think about him."Good morning Mark,"she smiled."How are you doing?"he asked and set the tray on her bed.
