Chapter 7

Elarie’s heart sank as Danreb’s eyes scanned her from head to toe. His cold gaze lingered on her outfit. She hadn’t expected him to notice that she was wearing the same clothes from the previous day. No one else in the company had said anything. But of course, he had picked up on it. Elarie swallowed hard. She felt her cheeks warming as embarrassment washed over her.

She knew she didn’t smell—she had made sure to wash thoroughly and freshen up before coming to work. But still, she suddenly felt very self-conscious. Lowering her head, she muttered an apology. “I’m sorry, Mr. Scott.”

Danreb didn’t respond. He simply walked past her. His attention had already shifted to the day ahead. He entered his office without a word. Elarie exhaled slowly, trying to shake off the unease that lingered. ‘I have to fix this,’ she thought. ‘I need to buy new clothes today after my shift.’
