She looked away and swept past him ignoring the pitiful look he had on. She just wanted to run. Away from everyone, everything.
“Isabella!”
He called behind her but she didn't stop. She continued to run. Breathless. But it was nothing compared to the feeling of storm that had swept through her and the weight of sadness that had settled in her chest.
Just as she was crossing the road, she ran into a speeding car.
“Isabella!!!”
That was the last Isa heard.
Up High in the sky she flew and on the ground she landed. Blood splattered.
Without struggle, she gave into the darkness reaching for her.
Before Raymond Walter got to the spot, the driver maneuvered his car and zoomed off.
He definitely knew what would become of him after realizing the victim he struck down is one from the Walters Family.
With mouth opened in shock and heart throbbing in pain, he cupped Isa into his broad arms. He pressed her body against his chest. His heart was begging her to hold on and wait till he got to the hospital.
Fortunately, a car stopped in front of him. His mouth was too heavy to say a word; even to tell the driver to speedup.
His heart became heavy with guilt. He regretted not pulling her more strongly away from meeting her Husband.
Earlier on, he bumped into Douglas and Evelyn chitchatting along the path leading to his quarters.
Raymond had felt a strong urge to tear Douglas apart but he restrained himself. It wasn't the first or second time they walked into his quarters with arms locked together like couples.
They do it when Isabella was away in the office working out her ass, trying to take Douglas's company to the top.
Now, she finally succeeded in reaching strong terms with the Commissioner for the Department of Housing Preservation and development.
What many companies have labored for many years and still couldn't get it.
The commissioner announced that Hudson yards was going to be the new redevelopment Area. The property that was banned for years due to how Douglas mishandled it would finally be redeveloped, all thanks to Isa.
Isa was happily going to show those signed contract Documents to her husband before everything happened like flash.
Evelyn curled up inside the Duvet and called onto Douglas who went into the bathroom to freshen up.
“Sweetheart, you have a call.”
“Probably, one of my clients. Let's see who it will be.” Douglas tiptoed towards her and she handed the phone to him.
“What? Where? Which Hospital?” He grunts as the call ends at the other side.
He hurriedly slipped into his trousers and flipped on his shirt. He scurried out of the room. Just then, he remembered his car key and slammed back into the room to get it.
“What is the matter?” Evenly asked, detaching herself from the Duvet.
“I just got a call from the hospital that Isabella had a ghastly accident.” Douglas grunts at the end of his breath.
Evelyn hissed irritably at his words.
“Is that the reason why you want to leave me all alone in this room? Because my sister got into an accident!”
“You choose her over me? You choose her over us, over what we just shared.”
“Babe…” He paused, hesitant.
“You know I can't possibly choose her over you. It is you I love no matter what. She is just here because of the company.”
“Once she gets the Commissioner to sign the contract, I am going to file for divorce at once.”
Her face lit up at his words.
They were at the entrance of his quarters; the same spot Isa witnessed her betrayal. An object looking like a file laid on the floor.
“Let us see what is in there.” Douglas said to Evelyn.
She reached out for it and opened it.
“The Signed Contract Documents.” Her eyes widened in shock as she read the contents aloud.
She jumped into his arms in excitement. He reciprocated but everything seemed strange to him.
The documents were supposed to be in Isa's custody right now, not on the floor.
“How did these documents get here?” Douglas mumbled, loud enough that she heard him.
“It could be that she gave them to some kids to bring them over to you and they ended up dropping it here.” Evelyn responded with a shrug.
“Com'on sweetheart, let's just go and celebrate. Don't you think this is good news?” She said, pulling him back into the room.
Douglas was deeply buried in thoughts as he tried to picture how the documents got to the entrance of his quarters.
Luckily, Evelyn dozed off. The moment became dull for her; trying to play with Douglas so she slept off.
Raymond doubts if she could survive it. She lost a pool of blood before they arrived at the hospital.
Trying to shut the echoes and noises from himself, he slowly turned around and there was Doctor Miles trotting out from the emergency room.
He was startled for a minute. The deadening look in Doctor Miles's eyes was uncertain. He hoped nothing had gone wrong.
Doctor Miles stopped some inches away and took off his face mask. The deadening look became more obvious.
“Please Doctor, will she be fine?” Raymond asked with a cracky voice.
“Are you her Husband?”
“Yes, I am.” Raymond felt the pit of his stomach churn with pains and guilt.
Not just Raymond, Doctor Miles was also heart broken. Isa was someone he knew. The picture of her crying over her little brother's life replayed in his memory.
“Doctor, I said will she be fine?” Raymond asked a second time. Doctor Miles was silent but had a betraying look on.
“I heard you are the same Doctor that conducted a surgery on her brother. I heard you are so good at what you do. I believe you can save her life.”
Doctor Miles clenched his fist hearing Raymond's words.
It was too late. They invested so much effort trying to revive Isa's life. But her body has turned stiff and cold.
“Young man, we tried our best but Isa…” Doctor Miles started slowly and paused halfway. He swallowed a lump.
“She…” He paused again and turned around.
There was a crowd at the entrance of the emergency room. He saw nurses trooping out urgently and pulling a stretcher behind them.
One of the nurses ran towards him and said, “Sir, her hand suddenly moved so we checked her pulse and temperature. Her temperature is…”
“Take her to the Operating theater. She has to survive.” Before Raymond could look up, Doctor Miles disappeared with the nurse.
Douglas got to the hospital exactly the same time the Operating theater was shut against Raymond.
He walked directly to Raymond with no sign of worry on his face.
“How did the signed contract Documents get to my entrance? Did she witness anything?” Douglas asked, not minding being in a cold war with his brother.
“You bastard!! So you care about a mere document more than the life of your wife?”
Raymond clenched his fist, ready to dash Douglas a punch.
“Yes. You are right that I am a bastard. Well if you were good enough, why don't you let me be the Successor of Walter Enterprises, huh?” Douglas smirked at the end of his words.
“And you think I can't expose you. Your in-laws need to know the kind of person they let their daughter get married to.”
Raymond retorted and grabbed his phone out of his side pocket.
“You have my permission but I advise you not to, to save yourself from embarrassment. Her parents are aware of everything.”
Raymond bit his lips so hard and swallowed a lump. Those words felt like a sharp dagger pierced into his chest.
“Her parents knew I never wanted her as a wife. Isa knows herself. She knows that I have always wanted her sister and not her.We just had an agreement.”“What kind of agreement?” Raymond asked a bit perplexed.“She got married to me to save her brother's life and take my company's name to the top.”Douglas smacked his lips at his last words and shot a glance at his wrist watch.“I think I will get going now. I need to catch up on something.” He said and turned to leave. Just then, Doctor Miles walked out from the theater wearing a tiresome look.He reached out his hands and shook the two men, “Congratulations! She will be fine.”At the end of Doctor Miles’s words was a long, gloomy look.“Is it alright, if we go in and see her?”“I am sorry…I don't think she would recognize any of you.” Doctor Miles dropped what sounded like a bombshell.Douglas didn't seem concerned but he needed to listen to know his next plans.“What do you mean, Doctor Miles? Are you trying to say that she lost h
Isabella wakes up in the hospital. She squeezed her eyes with difficulty for some minutes before they finally opened.“Where is this? Where am I?” She mumbled softly, narrowing her eyes. She felt weak and empty. She tried to lift her legs but she couldn't, so she rather curled it up like a newborn baby.“What I'm I putting on?” She mumbled and scrutinized herself in a hospital gown.“Is this a hospital? Oh! no, hope nothing happened to Ryan?” “Ryan…” She stuttered and burst into a silent cry.Just then, a nurse walked in.“You are awake.” The nurse exclaimed and placed her mild palm over Isa's forehead.Isa dragged off the pulse oximeter clipped to her fingertip and tried to climb off the bed.“No. Don't. You just had surgery. I will go and call the Doctor.” The nurse placed Isa back in a proper position and hastily ran to call the Doctor.“Surgery? What does she mean by surgery? Aaah…my head hurts…” Isa cried out, cupping her head with her palm.Doctor Miles trots in with his nurses
At Walter's residence, friends and well wishers trot inside the over furnished sitting room in Douglas's quarters.Mr Walter wanted to help in the little way he could even though it was hard. He knew it might take some time before Isa's memory could come back.At least, it would be better than undergoing another surgery. That’s the reason he insisted on having a get together party, hoping that Isa's memory reconnects. He threw a glance at Isa smiling at some people that came by to introduce themselves. She looked really pretty wearing those smiles but her happiness would have been complete if she didn't lose her memory.Moments later, all attention diverted towards a figure. It was Raymond Walter wrapped up in a black designer's suite. “Oh! Son, you came back right on time. You closed the deal quite fast, I guess.” Mr Walter said, hoping nothing had gone wrong with the deal.Raymond halted halfway as his gaze fell on Isabella. He swallowed a lump and let shivers run across his spine.
Douglas pulled the car to a halt in front of Evelyn's Mansion. It was no longer something new for the duo as he drives her home regularly. Especially as Isa lost her memory. He knew it would be hard for Isa to smell a rat around them.In the tinted car, he plastered several kisses on her forehead and cajoled her into having a quick sex with him.As if not enough, he still wouldn't let her leave the car. The thought of going home to meet an empty woman with no memory irritated him. He wished they could spend more time together until he finally finds a way to divorce Isa.Meanwhile, Evelyn was buried in her own thoughts. Thoughts about Isa.What if Isa's memory comes back and she doesn't sign the divorce papers? After all, it was her biggest efforts that raised the company's identity to the top.Wait a minute, what if Isa has been pretending to have a memory loss? What if she paid the doctor to give everyone a fake health report? After all, nobody witnessed her accident. What if she is
So she manipulated Mr Bennett into having a cold heart towards Isa.Some months later, the news of Isa's Mom dying in a ghastly accident spread like wildfire. Isa became so hopeless. She neither ate nor spoke with anyone. Her whole world came crashing down on her head. Ryan was abandoned and brought to her. Seeing him added another torn to her heart. He had a kidney disease that nearly took his life but…Isa's memory began to breach at this point. She squeezed her eyes so tight, wishing it wouldn't stop. She continued holding on, despite the excruciating pains she was feeling in her brain. It was as though she was in a trance. Everything around her was quiet and cold. It was as if she was reborn and starting her life all over.As everything replayed in her memory, her heart was racing and inching for the end. She wanted to see the end of everything and know how it all happened. Then it came. The answer to the query that lingered in her head appeared before her eyes. The sounds of moa
He said and flipped into a transparent shirt that clinged to his body.Isa shoved the feeling she was getting aside. She needed to focus on her plans and in order to get it accomplished, she has sealed her heart from accepting any feelings from any man.“You look extremely beautiful. It's unlike you.” Raymond said, staring at her closely.“What do you mean by it's unlike me?” Isa asked, trying to get his point.“No…nothing…nevermind.” He shrugged. He didn't want to go deeply into her dress code since she lost her memory. He feared that if he told her about her old-fashioned dress codes before she lost her memory, she might go back to it.Earlier that day, Isa went out to do some shopping. Back then when she was working out her ass for the company, she had no time for herself. She worked so hard to take the company's identity to the top without realizing that Douglas had his plans to divorce her. Now, she has decided to use his money anyhow that pleased her after all, she worked hard f
Mrs Rhoda Bennett slammed her foot against the floor, disappointed at Evelyn. Furious that Evelyn couldn't carry any of her traits. If not by now, Evelyn would have been manipulating and maneuvering things her own way just like she did to Mr Bennett.“You have to get that damn ass off that seat and find a solution. Find a solution before it gets late.” Mrs Rhoda Bennett said and grunted at the end of her words.Evelyn walked back into her room and dropped herself on the bed with a muffling sound. Reins of thoughts embedded inside her head but she couldn't get hold of anyone to ponder on.She paused between her thoughts and scoffed at herself. She mocked herself for letting a pauper like Isabella make her pass through hell. She looked around to behold the beauty of herself and everything around her.She lacked nothing. She attended one of the best schools and was born into the Bennett's family; where any man would dream to marry from. In terms of appearance, her skin was brighter and
Look who Isa met at the door. Her eyes swam in gladness and ran it over Crystal's thin body. Crystal pulled back a little and stormed her gaze all over Isa's body.“Wow.” She exclaimed in a mutter. She has never seen Isa look this hot in a blue lace gown that stopped at her thighs, bearing a bold opening that revealed her back.Isa led her inside the house with a smile and showed her a seat. Crystal became embedded with thoughts. The Isa she knew was styleless. She even had images of Isa wearing shirts in pant trousers replaying in her head or was it just her illusion? Even when she initiates the best shopping mugs to her, Isa would decline over a table heaped with files and documents.“What are you staring at?” Isa asked, noticing the intense gaze from Crystal.“Nothing…just that you changed.” Crystal shrugged with a wave. Isa rose and walked to the fridge. Crystal's gaze followed her. She could be mistaken for a model with her nimble steps, aligning with the unusual twinge between h
How would she make this lady understand that she is on the run? And that she can't trust anyone at the moment.“Hey, pretty…don't act like you don't like what I'm offering you.” The lady said sarcastically, tugging at Isabella's blouse.Isa became alert and looked up at the lady. Why did she tug at her in that manner? Is it mandatory to accept her nasty offers?Something about her made her feel so uncomfortable. She threw a gaze towards Raymond but he was still focused on filling the form. The moment he lifted his head and saw the lady on the black blazers, he screamed Isabella's name.“Run.” He shouted with the top of his voice, looking through a crowd that suddenly appeared from nowhere.Perhaps, it was time to board the plane.Isabella sprang up from the bench and began to run, forcing herself through the crowd. She was panting like never before. There was nothing else on her mind other than to get hold of Raymond's hands. She managed to tilt her neck backwards as she caught a gli
He suddenly pulled the car to the side of the road. Everything seemed like a dream to him. It's barely ten minutes since they drove out of the morgue and barely fifteen minutes since those uniformed men took the pathologist and the morgue attendant away. How possible could it be that they were both found dead? Actually the Airlines news station doesn't give fake information.“The pathologist and the morgue attendant are both dead?” Isa asked, perplexed.“How could that be possible?” He replied with scrutiny on his face.A while ago, three uniformed men who claimed to come from the Federal Government came and cuffed them out of the morgue.According to the news, their death didn't result from any form of car accident.Which only means one thing. Those men were sent to kill the pathologist and the morgue attendant. But why? Raymond shaked his head vehemently as a series of thoughts stormed into his head.If those men truly came from the Federal Government, they would kill only the path
She had a grimace on her face as her eyes scanned through it.“Let me take a look.” Raymond said and she gave it to him. His lips parted in shock and disappointment. He shot a hostile glance at the pathologist and felt like strangling him.“You had the original results in your briefcase, why then did you choose to tell us lies?” Raymond shrieked at him.“I am sorry.” Mr Fabian pleaded with a sober voice.“There's nothing to be sorry about. I know quite well that this is the same reason why the Government is desperately searching for you.” “You go about, giving people fake or forged results. How do you feel after doing it?” Raymond's tenor voice sent cold shivers across Mr Fabian's body.“Do you even think of the damage or pain you bring to those people?” “You hide the truth from those that desperately need it.” He said, his veins all popped out around his neck. He felt a little bit of exhaustion. His last words emerged out with a faint tone.“Who paid you to do this?” Raymond asked
At this point, Raymond couldn't ask for anything more. Their goal was to run an autopsy and walk out with the results, not to make a poor innocent man lose his job. They watched him as he went inside the frizzy room to speak to the anatomist on the phone. Raymond had no choice than to let him do his own part of the deal.“He will be here in at least twenty minutes.” He whispered to them as he walked out of the room.“So we could quickly go out and grab a drink, right?” Raymond requested, cutting an eye for Isabella.“Yes, you can go.” He replied with relief. Raymond seems to give him a hard time. While they were away, he wished they could disappear and never come back. To him, Isa wasn't the problem but Raymond was the problem he had.Minutes later, they both walked back inside the office energetically. Isa was holding two cups of the creamy juice.“You can have this too. You are a good man.” She said and handed a cup to the morgue attendant. He collected the creamy juice with a grin
Raymond couldn't stand it anymore. He couldn't stand eavesdropping on the morgue attendant. He heard everything the latter said to Mrs Rhoda Bennett. He angrily pushed the door open and walked towards the man, stopping some inches away from him.Isabella didn't feel his absence. She was petrified the moment she saw her father's cold body. “Are you trying to sell us?” Raymond started, noticing the man's trembling lips.“What I'm I even saying? You were actually selling us, huh?” Raymond said and saw the man trying to hide his phone behind him but he grabbed the phone from him and went directly to the last call made. His jaw dropped in shock. He had actually assumed that the man was speaking with Mrs Rhoda Bennett but it was only an assumption until now.“So you are her accomplice?” “That's why you persisted on seeing his bio before letting us get access to him?” Raymond asked bitterly.“How much were you even paid?” He asked rhetorically and punched his fist in the air.“You know wha
Isabella and Raymond both narrowed their eyes in confusion. They got their mind wandering like wildfire. There's a lot of dots that need to be connected. For goodness sake, Mrs Rhoda Bennett earlier told the Corp that she went for an urgent business meeting.Since it was urgent, what time did she get to still register Mr Bennett's body to the morgue?Talking of how she walked inside the mansion; like she heard the news on reaching the gate. She even passed out in front of everyone. It could be that she heard the news during the meeting and went straight to the morgue from there.Or what is this whole thing all about? The witch is so smart that nobody has ever caught her in all her acts.“Please sir, what time was Mr Bennett registered yesterday?” Isa asked, curiously.“Ma'am, I'm afraid but I can't tell you anything more until you provide the original copy of the bio used to register him here.” The man replied and pinched his brows.Isa cast a tiresome glance at Raymond.“I can't be
On the express road to the city, Raymond had to ask for directions to the hospital where the ambulance came from.He couldn't bear seeing the look on Isabella's face anymore. She looked so pathetic, embracing the brown envelope like it meant the whole world to her.“Isa, I don't like what you are doing right now.” He mumbled and pressed the deceleration button. “What I'm I doing?” She mumbled, trying hard not to look up at his face.“If you are confident that you did nothing wrong, why then are you avoiding looking up?” He asked, keeping his gaze glued at her.Isa kept mute. She couldn't feel the breeze from the high speed of the car. She imagined that something had gone wrong and finally looked up to check for herself.“Just the traffic.” He responded before her eyes met with his.At that moment, she swallowed a lump. She felt wet tears gathering in her eyes. She must have been deeply in tears that's why she didn't notice it on time and now, Raymond's gaze. She just wished that he d
She stubbornly struggled with him. Corp Bellick's rage heightened instantly. He forcefully locked her wrists inside the cuffs and escorted her to the Hilux. He didn't care anymore. She must have thought that this case would turn out like the numerous cases where they got a special order from the general not to meddle into Bennett's family affairs. Not anymore. Not when Mr Bennett died a cold death. He knew the general and of how much he hated Mrs Rhoda Bennett.Perhaps, he would use this opportunity to reopen her formal cases; the cases that were buried due to Mr Bennett's influence.Mrs Rhoda Bennett turned around and her last gaze fell on Isabella.Isa bit her lips. She could feel the pit of her stomach churned in excitement. This is exactly how she would punish each and everyone of them. She knew that in no time, she would be granted bail. She assumed she would use Mr Bennett's burial as a key excuse. She didn't care, she just wanted to do what she always wanted to do.“An autopsy.
“But you know what, I aren't acting any drama this time around. I'm doing this for the safety of my health.” Mrs Rhoda Bennett mumbled and snapped her fingers.Isa ran her eyes over the latter's body in scrutiny. No matter what she said, she wasn't ever going to take in her words. She felt this was the only opportunity for her to pay her last respect to her father. That last picture of him couldn't leave her memory. She continued replaying his soothing voice in her head. She wouldn't have believed it if someone had told her that it would be the last time she would get to see or speak to her father. At this point, she felt like giving up on everything; her revenge plans. She felt like backing off and running away to a far away land.Because for some minutes, she wondered what would be her yield if she eventually won the battle.Would she be the only person to celebrate her victory? Her Mom and her father have joined their ancestors. What if she backs off and disappears to a far away c
