Chapter 3

Author: Westwine
"Don't think you really are my uncle just because I call you that! Stay out of my business!" Rosalie clambered out of the bathtub with difficulty.

Something must've possessed her when she'd agreed to come to a hotel with Rowan, especially when she knew he'd never been nice to her.

"Are you going to leave looking like that?" His voice rang out behind her, an undercurrent of something unfathomable in it.

Just as she reached for the door, his words stopped her cold. Slowly, she glanced at herself.

She was drenched from her dip in the bathtub, and her dress wasn't made of thick material since it was summertime. It clung to her body uncomfortably, and even her nipple covers had moved out of position. A certain spot stood out in particular.

There was no way she could leave the hotel looking like that.

She tightened her grip on the doorknob and covered her chest with her free hand before pulling the door open. Instead of leaving, she chased Rowan out. "Get out. I'm going to spend the night here!"

He pulled out a cigarette and a lighter from his pocket. After lighting it, he said, "Come here and tell me what happened."

Rosalie was already in a bad mood because of what happened, yet Rowan just had to bring it up. She had no desire to pour her heart out, especially to him.

The thought of him reminded her of Ivory. She remembered how she'd helped Ivory give Rowan a love letter. They'd never been on the best of terms, yet she'd set her pride aside for Ivory's sake.

How had Ivory repaid her?

Rosalie grew angrier the more she thought about what had happened. The alcohol clouded her judgment, and she stared at Rowan, thinking about how Ivory had been desperately in love with him for four years.

Ivory had stolen her boyfriend. Could she get back at her by sleeping with Rowan?

It only took a second for a person to make a rash decision. The blood rushed to Rosalie's head, and she shut the door before approaching Rowan.

Her drenched dress clung to her curves, accentuating her figure. Rowan watched her, his gaze darkening with lust. He didn't shy away from her.

When she got closer, he got a better look at her body. His Adam's apple bobbed, but before he could say anything, she stood on her tiptoes and wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him with abandon.

It was an urgent, messy kiss that carried a hint of insanity and fear.

Rowan was caught off guard. He dropped his cigarette and froze in shock, his muscles tensing. Soon, he snapped to his senses and pried Rosalie off him. He pushed her aside and snapped, "Do you know what the hell you're doing?"

She'd been planning on giving herself to Simon that night, but he'd gotten together with Ivory. Rowan was the man Ivory loved, and he looked better than Simon. No matter how Rosalie looked at the situation, she wasn't losing out.

"Of course!" She broke free of his grip when he was distracted and threw herself at him again, kissing his lips and jaw with a dazed look. She said with grievance, "It's my birthday today, Rowan. Can't you be nicer to me?"

She softened her attitude and went from being a prickly hedgehog to a red-eyed rabbit.

Rowan caught her hands in one of his and gripped her jaw with the other. "What do you mean by being nicer to you?"

"I want you!"

Although he'd guessed the answer, he was still taken aback. He looked at Rosalie's face—her complexion was so flawless that he couldn't see her pores even when she was so close. Her eyes glistened, and her gaze was fragile and helpless. She made a pitiful sight.

Her lips were rosy, soft, and alluring. His gaze traveled downward over her slender neck. Beneath that…

He forced himself to look away. He knew very well certain things couldn't be done—he'd be getting himself into too much trouble if he were to cross the line, and he didn't like trouble.

"You're drunk," Rowan said. He suppressed his arousal and said hoarsely, "Go to bed. I'll be in the room next door; we can talk about this tomorrow morning."

He released Rosalie and turned to leave. That was when she cried, "I'll sleep with someone else if you don't want me!"

He froze, and his expression turned steely. "What did you say?"

"I said I want a man to fuck me! If you don't, I'll—"

Rowan grabbed the back of Rosalie's neck and silenced her with a searing kiss. It was rough and carried a hint of the desire he was trying to keep at bay.

She didn't feel good. When she tried to push him away, he grabbed her hands and easily locked her in his embrace. His arms and chest were hard as steel—she couldn't make him budge, no matter how hard she struggled or flailed.

Rowan had only kissed Rosalie because he was upset about her having no self-respect, but he soon became engrossed in it and allowed his lust and natural desires to take over.

When Rowan pinned Rosalie to the bed and hovered over her to take things further, she felt her head spin and her stomach turn. A wave of nausea crashed over her, and she ultimately lost control, heaving the contents of her guts out.

Rowan's expression turned hideous. He evidently hadn't expected things to take such a turn. His lust quickly disappeared.

He called the front desk and had them send a housekeeper up to clean up the mess.

The following day, Rosalie woke up with a hell of a hangover and a splitting headache.

Her mind was in a mess as she opened her eyes and stared at the unfamiliar room and ceiling. She pressed a hand to her head and slowly sat up in bed.

"You're awake." A deep and sexy yet icy voice rang out.

Rosalie was taken aback. Then, she froze. That voice…

She turned in the direction it had come from to see Rowan on a single-seater couch before the floor-to-ceiling windows. He had a cigarette between his fingers, and the tendrils of smoke blurred his icy face.

The memories of last night flashed through her mind like a kaleidoscope, and she suddenly realized how cold her bare shoulders felt.

Rosalie's gaze dropped, taking in the faint marks scattered across her otherwise flawless skin. They traced a path from her chest downward, disappearing beneath the sheets.

Only then did she realize she was naked.

She turned ashen and hastily pulled the sheets higher, cocooning herself in them. "What are you still doing here?"

Rowan stubbed out his cigarette and stood up. "Your clothes are in that bag. Hurry up and wash up. I'll wait for you outside."

With that, he strode out of the room.

Rosalie bit her lip and clutched the sheets tightly, only relaxing her hold on them when she was alone in the room.

She didn't seem to feel uncomfortable anywhere, and she didn't remember whether or not they'd actually gone all the way.

She lifted the sheets and got out of bed, heading to the bathroom to freshen up. As her reflection stared back at her, the marks scattered across her skin seemed to bloom like unwelcome reminders.

A deep sadness settled over her, heavy and unshakable; her tears fell unchecked.

She'd ultimately still regretted this.

She stared into the distance, her gaze empty and unfocused. She didn't know how long she sat there, only snapping to her senses when her phone rang. She frowned when she saw the caller ID. After some thought, she answered the call. "Is anything wrong, Josie?"Ms. York… Mr. Simon told me to check your room, and it seems… It seems that some clothes and accessories are missing. Two Birkin crocodile leather handbags are also missing, and he wants you to return everything. If you don't, he'll take legal action against you."Josie's voice grew softer toward the end of her sentence, evidently feeling that she wasn't in the place to be saying those things.Rosalie was stunned. Simon had truly stooped lower than she thought was possible. Her anger surged, and she snapped, "I didn't take any of those things! He's already checked my luggage, hasn't he? Or does he think

Why are you falling back in again?"Before Simon could say anything, someone teased, "That's right, Si. You said you wanted to quit smoking. After Rowan's last patient for the morning left the clinic, he took off his doctor's coat and washed his hands. Then, he grabbed his phone and dialed a number. "I'll be right out."It was noisy on the other end of the line, and Eugene's voice boomed as he said, "I'm already at the cafeteria with the others, Ro. Your niece has been waiting for you for a while now. She doesn't come here every day, so take her out for something nice!"Rowan was mid-step, phone pressed to his ear, when his hand froze on the doorknob. His brows furrowed as he repeated, "My niece?""Yeah, the one we saw at the bar two nights ago. The one that's really pretty, remember? Didn't she say you're her uncle?" Eugene told someone not to push him before continuing, "I was going to go to your clinic to let you know, but she told me not to."She said she'd wait outside for you because she didn't want to disturb you at work. How thoughtful! Anyway, it's my turn to get food, so I'll leave you to it. Hurry up and go g

The impatience and iciness in Rowan's gaze were apparent.Rosalie felt a little diffident as she looked into his eyes. She could tell he wanted nothing more than to draw a clear line between them; he didn't want her to latch onto him after their one-night stand. She should've stopped pestering him if she had the slightest bit of pride and dignity. Still, the thought of Simon and Ivory having hooked up last year behind her back made her anger surge.Rowan was the man Ivory had coveted and failed to win over for four years, and he was better than Simon in every way. Simon's friends were sure Rosalie was just playing hard to get, and they were confident she couldn't find a man better than him.Rosalie had to win Rowan over, even if it was just to show them up."Let's exchange numbers!" "Do you remember what you said to me yesterday?" Rowan asked.Of course, Rosalie remembered. She didn't expect herself to regret it so soon, though. It would've been great if she'd taken him up on his offer—she wouldn't be in such an embarrassing situation if she had!"I only said that yesterday because I didn't want you to force yourself to be with me out of responsibility!" she said, emphasizing "force".She clenched her fists around the bag on her knees, feeling diffident. Still, she kept her sweet smile in place.Rowan watched her silently. After a while, he curled his lip slightly and asked, "So, you don't want me to take responsibility?"Rosalie felt he would go along with her and reject her if she were to agree with him. She flipped her hair over her shoulder and said crisply, "I asked around and heard that you don't have a girlfriend. I'm single, too. How about we give each other a shot?""No, thanks. I have no intention of dating just yet." Rowan grabbed his phone and st

The meat and vegetable dishes were charged the same price—the total depended on the weight. Most of the meat dishes had already run out, but there was still a variety of vegetable dishes. Rowan did harbor less-than-decent ideas about Rosalie. If not for that, he wouldn't have allowed her to buy two bottles of beer. If she had indeed fallen asleep, he probably wouldn't have done anything—but she'd woken up.He subconsciously glanced downward. The straps of her camisole were beginning to slide down her shoulder, and the thin material left little to the imagination. Having caught a whiff of shower gel coming off her, he knew she had showered. She was like a freshly peeled fruit, inviting him to have a taste.Rowan closed his eyes and composed himself before attempting to pull her arms off him."You're drunk.""I'm not drunk!" Rosalie insisted.Clutching Rowan's neck tightly, she flashed him a smug smile. "Even if you don't admit it, I know you came just to pick me up. They all said you never attend such gatherings, but you did today. You also left so soon after, and you brought me home!"As Rowan stared at her pretty little face and ruby lips, which moved as she spok

While waiting for the traffic light at the intersection, Rowan looked to the side and found that Rosalie had been staring at him the whole time.Raising an eyebrow, he asked with an unreadable expression, "Why are you looking at me like that?"Still staring unblinkingly at him, Rosalie replied with a grin, "Because you're handsome!"At 22, she was in the prime of her youth. With her fair complexion, rosy lips, and pearly white teeth, she looked exceptionally captivating when she smiled widely at him.Rowan subconsciously tightened his grip on the steering wheel. Gulping, he said in a hoarse, sultry voice, "Don't dress like that ever again!"Startled, Rosalie looked down—and immediately saw her cleavage. In a flash, her cheeks flamed. She tugged on the neckline to lift it higher before realizing that the gown had been designed this way. She immediately put her hand back down and looked away, choosing not to meet his fiery gaze. Instead, she lowered the window and looked out as if

Rosalie sent Rowan a message to inform him that she was leaving with Emily. Once that was done, she got into the car.Emily sat in the back seat with Rosalie. Rosie, why don't you be my daughter instead?"As soon as she finished speaking, Leonard exclaimed, "Mr. Rowan's car is over there, Mrs. Chapman!"Emily looked out the window, and true enough, she saw Rowan's car, which was still parked outside the house. He hadn't left yet! Obviously, he'd been lying to her when he said he had to leave to deal with an urgent matter.Feeling even more riled up, Emily instructed, "Forget about him. It was as if he'd been watching her for a long time, but there was no emotion in his eyes.Squeezing her phone, she looked down and responded, "Yes.""I'll wait for you outside."That sentence quickened Rosalie's heart rate. After casting an indifferent glance at Ivory, Rowan frowned and asked, "And you are?"Ivory felt as if someone had just dumped a bucket of cold water over her head. Her smile frozen, she stopped in her tracks and asked in disappointment, "You don't remember me?"Rowan's expression remained calm as he paused in thought. Rowan said.In next to no time, Rowan was gone from Ivory's sight. He'd left without the slightest bit of hesitation. The passionate fire that burned in her heart was instantly put out. Frida glanced at the women around them. Anyone of standing in Berdon City was in attendance today, and these women often discussed their husbands and children with each other. However, Frida hadn't heard anyone mentioning that their son was dating Rosalie. They all loved comparing themselves to each other, and they weren't just picky with their prospective daughters-in-law. Even their future sons-in-law had to be of equally high society, if not better. They wouldn't allow their daughters to marry into an ordinary family."Rosie, why didn't you bring your boyfriend over today?" someone asked, trying to ease the tension. Not wanting to embarrass Melinda, Rosalie came up with a lie.
