Chapter 67

Parker Wellington

~•~

On my way back home after a long day at work, I decided to make a quick detour to Ivy’s house. It felt like I hadn’t seen her in ages even though we spent the entire weekend together.

As I pulled up to her front porch, I saw her standing beside the door, a frustrated expression registered on her face. I quickly hopped out of the car and went to meet her.

“Who sent you these?” I asked when I saw a gift basket and some flowers beside her leg. “Why do you look so worried?”

Ivy sighed as she shrugged her shoulders. “I have no idea who sent them.” She replied, frustration evident in her voice. “I’ve been getting them for a while and they always come with creepy notes.”

“Wow,” I muttered, rubbing the back of my head. “Why didn’t you tell me about it?” I asked, raising a brow at her. She looked so stressed about it and I didn’t want her to feel that way.

“I thought the person would stop, but I was wrong.”

I picked up the card that came with the basket.

Chapter 68Parker Wellington ~•~I couldn’t focus on work, my eyes constantly drifting to my phone. I was waiting for an update from the NYPD. My contact, a trusted friend, had agreed to give me access to the CCTV footage from the traffic camera near Ivy’s apartment. I had promised Ivy that I would get to the bottom of the mysterious gifts and I was determined to keep that promise. Time dragged on and it felt like I had been waiting for an eternity. Then suddenly, my phone buzzed and I picked it up without hesitation. My lips curled into a small smile was I saw that it was my friend from the NYPD who had texted. In no time, I was done downloading the video he had sent. I already told him the particular thing I was looking for, so he sent me exactly what I wanted. I let out a scoff when I saw the person who dropped the gift basket in front of Ivy’s door. “Fucking Bastard!” I cursed through gritted teeth, slamming my hand on the wooden table. “Of course.” A wave of anger coursed t

Chapter 69Ivy Chase~•~I asked my sister to meet me for lunch because I wanted to see her but I didn’t want to go over to the house. I wasn’t ready to face my father after the request he made. I hadn’t gotten feedback for him and I didn’t want him to pressure me about it. After waiting at the restaurant for over ten minutes, I finally saw my sister walk inside the building. “I’m sorry for coming late, there was traffic.” Serena apologized as she sat down across from me. I let out a scoff and rolled my eyes. “There was no traffic, Serena. You’re just a chronic latecomer.” I teased, giving a playful nudge on her shoulder. Serena smiled. “You know me too well.” I nodded in agreement. “Yes, what would you like to have?” I asked, passing her the restaurant’s menu. Serena pushed it to the side. “I’m not hungry yet, let’s talk about why you didn’t just meet me for lunch at the house.” She replied, raising a brow at me. I sighed, my shoulders sagging. “It’s Daddy, I don’t want to see

Chapter 70Ivy Chase~•~“What did he say?” Serena asked, her brows etched in concern. “Why do you look so stunned?” I was still trying to process what I had just heard. Why did Parker go over to his house without telling me? And how did he get my new number? “Ivy!” My sister exclaimed, snapping her fingers in front of my face. “Parker went to his house to harass him.” “What?” Serena gasped. “Why would Parker do something like that?” She asked, her voice laced with a mixture of confusion and disbelief.“That’s what I’m about to find out.” I stood up as I gathered my things. “I think it has to do with the mystery gift baskets I’ve been receiving. Maybe Parker found out it was Sebastian who was behind it.” Even if he did, I would have appreciated it if he talked to me before taking any actions. He just went there and harassed him without my consent. Serena’s expression softened a bit. “Oh.” She mumbled. “You have to call Parker and confirm because I don’t trust Sebastian.” I didn

Chapter 71Parker Wellington ~•~I accidentally told Ivy that I had already talked to my parents. It was just a spur-of-the-moment thing, I had no idea when it slipped out of my mouth. Ivy was already upset at me for going to Sebastian’s house, so I just said it to make her happy. What had I gotten myself into? After Ivy left, I spent the rest of the day thinking about how I would convince my parents to accept the invitation and go for dinner. I already assured Ivy and I needed to make it happen. The next morning when I woke up, I decided to take a visit to my family house. I barely went there because I wasn’t exactly best friends with my parents. It was safe to say that we had a complicated relationship. I always thought it was best to stay away from them because we always ended up having silly misunderstandings. My parents were just too strict and I was also strong-headed. We had a lot of differences and couldn’t seem to be on the same page about anything. As I arrived at th

Chapter 72Ivy Chase ~•~After a hectic workday, I decided to spend the evening at the family house. I could finally show up at my parent's house because I had an answer for my father. Most times, my house got lonely and I always found solace in my sister. But as I arrived at the house, I saw an empty house. I called my sister and she told me that they were out for an event. But she told me to wait for her because they would be back in no time. I obliged and decided to wait for them in Serena’s room. As I collapsed on her bed, I pulled out my phone and scrolled aimlessly while I waited for them to return. I decided to check Zara’s page. I found myself going there once in a while when I was bored. Even after her harsh betrayal, I still missed her sometimes. It wasn’t like I wanted her to be my friend again, I just wished things were different. I wished she hadn’t betrayed me and we were still friends. But my face formed into a frown and I shoved those thoughts away when I stumb

Parker hesitated for a moment, then he cleared his throat and responded. “I lied to you.” My chest tightened. “What did you lie to me about?” I asked, letting out a deep breath as I prepared myself to hear his response. “Dinner isn’t happening.” I let out a disbelieving scoff. “What do you mean?” I asked, raising a brow at him even though he couldn’t see me. “Did your parents change their mind? What happened?” Parker let out a wistful sigh. “They didn’t change their mind, Ivy.” He replied. “They never agreed to it.” He added, his voice tight. “Wha…what? But you…..” I stuttered as I struggled to form a coherent sentence. “I know I told you that they agreed, but it was just a lie.” I felt my heart shattering into a million tiny pieces. “Why would you lie to me about something like that?” I asked, the disappointment evident in

Chapter 82Parker Wellington ~•~My day was going smoothly until the receptionist called to say I had a visitor. I was confused because I was expecting anyone at the office. Or maybe it was Ivy. But she was meant to be preparing for the event and we didn’t plan on seeing each other until later in the day. The receptionist didn’t say who it was, she just asked me to come downstairs because the person wouldn’t say who they were or what they wanted. My curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to know what the unexpected visit was about. I wasn’t really busy, so I decided to go downstairs to see who it was. As I descended the stairs, my face formed into a frown when I saw Sebastian standing by the receptionist’s desk. Was Sebastian the visitor? What did he want? The last time I saw him was when I went over to his house to warn him to stay away from my girlfriend. He had been quiet since then, and I felt he had gotten the message. But now he was back. I could only hope he didn’t w

Chapter 81Ivy Chase~•~Parker and I practically spent every day together for the past two weeks. He wanted to make the most of the time before leaving for Japan. No matter how hard I tried to put on a brave face, I couldn’t shake off the feeling of the impending doom. I couldn’t even enjoy my time with him. The thought of being away from him was suffocating, and I couldn’t help but feel like I was counting down the days until he left. At some point, I even thought about the possibility of moving there with him. I mean, it would be only for a year. My company had great staff and they would do well without me. But I shoved those thoughts away, I didn’t need to put my career on hold because of a man. I would end up regretting the decision. I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of chokehold Parker had on me. A few months ago, I didn’t want to get into a relationship with him. But now, it felt like I couldn’t live without him. If I had learned anything from my last relationship, it

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” I swallowed hard, ignoring the lump that had formed in my throat. “So you’re leaving for one year?” I asked, hoping he wouldn’t say yes. Parker sighed, leaning forward. “I don’t know. I haven’t made a decision yet.” He exhaled sharply. “I don’t want to leave you.” I didn’t want him to leave me either. I wasn’t sure our relationship would be able to survive a long distance. “So what are you saying?” I asked, my eyes locked onto his. “I don’t know. I wanted to talk to you about it first.” He replied, running his fingers through his hair. “I love you, Ivy. And I don’t want to be away from you.” My heart clenched as I heard him say those words. I had been wanting to hear them for so long, but now, under these circumstances, they didn’t bring me the excitement I thought they would. “If you love me and don’t want to be away fr

Chapter 79Ivy Chase~•~I couldn’t concentrate on my work throughout the day but my mind was constantly drifting back to Parker. I texted him again to let him know that I was free and asked him to meet me at the office. But hours ticked by and I still hadn’t gotten a response from him. I tried to push my feeling of unease, telling myself that he was busy. Finally, my phone buzzed with an incoming text from Parker. My heart skipped a beat as I opened the text message. He asked me to wait until later, promising to come over to my house so we could discuss everything in person. I was relieved but anxious at the same time. I had no idea what he wanted to say and was scared that it would be something bad. The rest of the day felt like an eternity. My eyes were constantly moving to the clock placed on the wall in front of me. After a few more hours, I was finally done for the day. I gathered my things and left for the house immediately. Chapter 78Ivy Chase~•~After Parker and his family left, I went back to meet my parents in the living room. “So what do you think about them?” I asked, staring at them in anticipation. My parents hesitated for a while, then my father finally responded. “Parker looks like a fine young man, and I’m sure that he is a decent person.” “But his father had been to prison and he caused it.” My mother added. I gasped in shock. How did she know about that? “It’s been a while, and I’m sure it was just a misunderstanding,” I replied, defending Parker. “He doesn’t look like he would hurt me, right?” My parents exchanged glances. “We can’t say for sure. Human beings are unpredictable. We just hope that he doesn’t end up hurting you.” My father replied. “Don’t take it the wrong way, your mother and I are just looking out for you.” I responded with a quiet nod. “So you guys approve of our relationship? You don’t mind if I’m in a relationship with someone like him?” My mother chuckled. “Ivy,

Do you know how I felt when you didn’t respond to any of my calls or texts?” I let out a deep breath. “I understand, but it wasn’t intentional.” Ivy remained silent. “I had an impromptu business meeting. I even had to cut the dinner short because I had to be at your house. I accidentally forgot my phone at my house, so I couldn’t even contact you.” Ivy listened attentively as I explained. “You know I wouldn’t leave you hanging on purpose,” I added as I pulled her closer. She was reluctant at first, but she finally gave in. “I thought you didn’t want to come anymore. And you were just ignoring me because you didn’t have the courage to tell me about it.” Ivy’s voice was calmer. I shook my head. “No, no. I knew I should’ve updated her about it, but I was so excited that I left my phone at the house. Dinner was meant to start by 7:00 pm. But my meeting didn’t end until after 7:30 pm. The meeting was impromptu and I didn’t even have any chance to communicate with anybody. Not even my parents.
