Chapter 18

Ivy Chase

~•~

Sebastian’s lips curled into a small smile and he pulled me into a warm hug. “Are you serious, babe?” He asked with a hint of amusement in his voice.

I nodded, wrapping my hands over his shoulders. “Yes, baby. Let’s do this!” I replied, my voice firm. “Let’s even plan an engagement party.”

Zara’s face became red with anger as I spoke.

“You’re going to regret this, Sebastian!” She growled, her voice dripping with malice. “You’re just trying to trap him. You're just deceiving him after cheating on him.” She glared at me.

Zara became more infuriated as I smiled at her. “You want to get married to someone with AIDS? How long before you contact it too?” She asked Sebastian who was busy burying his head in my shoulder.

“Zara, I’m sure you don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s probably a misunderstanding. But it’s fine now. Maybe you heard the wrong information.” I responded calmly, ignoring her outburst.

“But you came here to confront me abou….”

Chapter 19 Ivy Chase ~•~ Parker and I weren’t still cool. I knew I had let my ego get in the way, but I decided to take away my pride and apologize. He deserved an apology and I owed him one. I picked up my phone from the center table and dialed his number. Fortunately enough, he answered on the first ring. “Parker,” I said as I pressed the phone to my ear. “Ivy.” “How are you doing? I was wondering if you would like to meet up for drinks.” I went straight to the reason why I called him. Parker hesitated for a while, as though he was thinking of agreeing or declining the offer. I kept my fingers crossed, hoping he would agree. A few moments later, he cleared his throat and answered. “Sure, I’ll let you know when I’m done with my day’s activities.” I tried my best to contain my excitement. “Thank you. I’ll be looking forward to your call or text.” I replied calmly before ending the call. While waiting for Parker’s call, I decided to carry on with the activities I had

Chapter 20 Parker Wellington ~•~ I was surprised when Ivy called to ask me to meet up for drinks. I’ve always wanted her to contact me but I felt she was still upset about what happened the last time we met. Even if I was excited about the meeting, I decided to play it cool. Throughout the day, my eyes continuously darted to my wristwatch. I was looking forward to the end of the day, so I could meet up with Ivy. I was curious to know what she wanted to talk about. After a series of meetings which felt like they lasted for an eternity, the day finally came to an end. I didn’t spend any more minutes at the office before heading down to my car. I wasn’t sure if Ivy already had a place in mind to meet up, but I decided to tell her to meet me at a cafe close to my office. I was exhausted from work and that was the usual place where I normally go to rewind after work. As I got inside, I decided to scroll through my phone while I waited for her to arrive. “Parker!” Ivy’s fami

Chapter 21Ivy Chase~•~As soon as I opened my eyes, the first thing I could think of was to reach out for my phone. I wanted to see if Parker had called or sent a text while I was asleep. Waiting for feedback from him made me feel so restless. I was scared that he wouldn’t be able to get me the evidence I needed. My plans would be ruined if he ended up disappointing me. I let out a wistful sigh when I saw that I didn’t get any text or call from Parker.I contemplated calling him to ask if he had made any progress, but I decided to just stay calm and be patient. Besides, he had assured me that he would contact me whenever he found something. I tossed my phone on the bed and went back to sleep. A few minutes later, the sound of my ringing phone woke me up. I sat upright on the bed and quickly reached out to my phone. A part of me wanted to ignore the call when I saw the caller ID. But I just decided to answer because I was already awake. “Hey.” “Did I wake up up?” Sebastian’s

Chapter 22Ivy Chase~•~“Do you think Zara is going to attend the engagement party tomorrow?” I asked Parker who had his arms wrapped around my body. I had no idea what was going on between them. I wasn’t even sure if they were still on speaking terms or not. But I decided to ask, just to be sure. Sebastian shrugged. “I don’t know, but she would probably attend. I mean, you did invite her even after everything that happened at her house that day.” He replied, kissing me on my right cheek. “Mhmmm. Good. I really want her to attend. After all, she has been my best friend for a while.” I added, trying not to sound suspicious. I just wanted Sebastian to try and convince her to attend, in case they were still on speaking terms. Sebastian nodded. “Yes, I should probably send her a formal invitation.” I held back my laughter as he easily agreed to have Zara at the party. With everything that happened that day, any reasonable partner would question my decision about having Zara at the

Chapter 23Ivy Chase~•~“You look so breathtaking.” Sebastian looked at me with admiration in his eyes as he stepped out of his car. He wanted us to go to the venue together. He wanted us to make a grand entrance. I smiled, feeling a sense of satisfaction. “Thank you, baby.” I knew he was being honest because I actually looked so stunning. The knee-length shiny silver dress I had picked out was so beautiful. It hugged my curves in all the right places, showcasing my shape. Sebastian opened the door and assisted me as I stepped into the car. “I can’t wait to make you my fiancé. I can’t wait to show my beautiful fiancé to the world.” He said before closing the door and heading back to his seat. As he drove into the city, he took my left hand and kissed it. “You look nervous, but don’t worry, today is going to be perfect.” He assured me with a warm smile plastered across his face. “Oh, I know,” I muttered. “It’s just going to be perfect.” But not in the way he thought. Chapter 24Ivy Chase~•~My eyes darted between the large projector hanging from the ceiling at the front of the stage and back to Zara. I had already given Parker instructions to go ahead but he was wasting time. “Your parents aren’t still here,” Sebastian whispered to me as he placed his hands on my shoulder. I didn’t have time for his endless talks about my parents' presence at the party. “Sebastian, can you please stop? Let’s just enjoy our party.” I replied, my voice barely audible. Sebastian’s eyes narrowed and he seemed to sense my growing irritation. “But…..”I cut him off before he could complete his sentence. “No buts. Just enjoy the party.” I forced a smile as I told him. He leaned back in his seat and raised his hands in mock surrender. “Fine, I’ll enjoy the party.” He said, letting out a defeated sigh. A few minutes later, the protector was turned on and all eyes darted toward it. It was meant to be the time when the media team showcased different phases of me and Se

Chapter 25Ivy Chase~•~Just as I was about to leave, Parker’s voice interrupted me, and stopped in my tracks. “Why did you let your boyfriend off the hook and embarrass only Zara?” He asked, his voice barely above a whisper. His question caught me off-guard. “What?” I asked. “You have evidence of Zara and Sebastian cheating on you, but you just let him off the hook.” He continued, looking at me with judgmental eyes. “I mean, you want to go back inside and continue your engagement to someone who has betrayed you.” I had no idea where his question was coming from. I looked at him, keeping my expression neutral. “Why do you care, Parker? Where is this question coming from?” I asked, curious to hear his reason.Parker scoffed. “I don’t care, it just doesn’t make sense.” I couldn’t help but laugh. “I appreciate you for helping me with all the evidence and proof I needed. But I don’t think it’s fair for you to question my choices.” “And you think it’s fair to expose one person but l

Chapter 26Ivy Chase~•~My engagement with Sebastian had been the talk of the city for over two weeks. The blogs wouldn’t stop talking about it because of how everything went down. Normally, I wouldn’t read the comments because I didn’t care what strangers on the internet had to say about my life, but this time around, I was curious to know what people had to say about that day. Most people said I was courageous enough to expose my best friend on my special day, but some of them bashed me for embarrassing her like that. Ever since that day, I hadn’t seen Zara. Zara was a social media freak, but she hadn’t made a single social media post since then. I figured she was scared of what people would say to her. Most times, I felt bad about the whole situation, but Zara actually deserved it. I mean, I always saw Zara as my sister and my best friend. I never imagined she would actually stoop so low just to bring me down. She literally tried to put my life in danger. Embarrassing her in

Chapter 109Ivy Chase~•~When Parker returned to the room, he saw me holding his phone. “What did you see?” He asked as he took a step closer to me. “They asked you to come back but you refused,” I said as I handed his phone back to him. “What’s going on? Why did you quit and want to throw everything away?” Parker sighed. “They don’t have my best interest at heart.” He replied as he sat down next to me. “They refused to allow me to come back here and ended up giving me an ultimatum.” “And so what? They’ve realized their mistake and they want you back.” After everything that happened, I couldn’t let Parker give up on his dreams just because I needed saving. Parker shook his head, his eyes filled with determination. “I’ve already made up my mind. It’s too late and I’m not interested anymore.” He declared. “What happens next when there’s an emergency and they don’t let me leave? Do I just quit again?” “What would your parents say? It was a great opportunity and I don’t think you sh

Chapter 108Ivy Chase~•~“What do you mean by you’ve quit your job?” I asked with a hint of amusement in my voice. “You’ve worked so hard there and you just want to throw everything down the drain?” Parker sighed. “They gave me an ultimatum.” I raised my eyebrows. “What was the ultimatum?” He closed his eyes briefly, letting out a deep breath. “Let’s get you cleaned up and make sure you eat before talking about it.” I shook my head. “No, let’s talk about it right now.” I declared firmly without hesitation. “What was the ultimatum?” I repeated my question. “We will talk about it when we get home.” Throughout the rest of the ride, a frown was plastered across my face. There was nothing I could say that would convince Parker to change his mind and tell me about what was going on. It didn’t make sense for him to quit just like that. This was something he wanted so badly. It even caused a strain in our relationship at one point. I didn’t believe that he would just wake up one day

Chapter 107Ivy Chase~•~“How is it your fault?” I asked Parker, my brows etched in confusion. “Let’s leave this place first, I’ll explain everything to you in the car,” Parker replied, his voice measured. I was reluctant at first, but I eventually agreed. I didn’t want to spend another second in the house. Parker led me to the car, and I was relieved to know that I was finally free. But I couldn’t stop thinking about how it was Parker’s fault. Soon enough, I settled down in the car and fastened my seatbelt. Then Parker started the car and drove out of the deserted area. “So tell me everything,” I said, staring at him in anticipation. Parker sighed and started explaining. By the time he was done, my eyes grew wide in shock. “What? So they decided to come after me just because of a bad deal that happened years ago?” Parker nodded, his eyes filled with guilt. “Yes, I’m so sorry, Ivy. I couldn’t even tell your parents because I didn’t know how they would react to the news.” I

Chapter 106Parker Wellington~•~Just one bad deal! One fucking bad deal and they decide to go after my girlfriend? I had been blaming Zara when everything was actually my fault. After all these years, they decide to come after me now? I had no idea how I would even break the news to Ivy’s family. They would hate me for making their daughter go through something like that. When we took Zara to the station, she refused to say anything. She wouldn’t even talk with Ivy’s family present. I guess she was scared because there was no way in hell that she was doing it just to protect me. Ivy’s family had to leave before she agreed to talk. I was the only one she wanted to talk to. I was confused at first but I finally understood her reason after she explained everything to me. Zara was approached by a group of businessmen. She gave me a name. They wanted her to get close to Ivy, so they would be able to take her without a hassle. Zara was desperate for money because her life was fall

Chapter 105Ivy Chase ~•~I had no idea how long I had been passed out, but the next time I opened my eyes, I heard a loud noise coming from outside where I had been kept. My body was weak and I felt so dizzy. I tried to stand up but my legs weren’t cooperating. The noises outside were getting louder and it sounded like people were engaged in a heated argument. I managed to crawl closer to the door even though the concrete floor was hard and rough. When I finally got close, their voices were muffled and I couldn’t hear what they were saying. Frustrated, I decided to hit the door multiple times and screamed out for help. Everywhere went silent for a few minutes. But nobody answered me. Then they continued talking. I didn’t give up. I kept on hitting the door, hoping someone would come to my rescue. I had been kept hostage without a reason for so long. I had a life and wanted to get back to it. The worst part was that they didn’t even say what they wanted. Why would they kidna

Chapter 104Parker Wellington ~•~I felt a wave of different emotions - anger, frustration, sadness, disappointment - after I watched the CCTV footage. Why the fuck did Ivy allow Zara inside her home? After everything the girl had done to her, she still let her inside. I couldn’t help but wonder how their conversation went. What could she have possibly said to convince Ivy? A few hours after she let Zara into her house, a group of masked men walked in right after. Then they took Ivy away while she was unconscious. I had no idea what Zara had done to her. The police had already started searching for Zara but she was nowhere to be found. I knew that Ivy wouldn’t just ghost everybody. She was in danger and I couldn’t help but wonder what Zara’s motive was. Why would she do something like that to her best friend? As I returned to my house, I slammed the door behind me, the loud crash echoing my frustration. It was late and I needed to get some rest, so I wouldn’t be exhausted in

Chapter 103Ivy Chase ~•~I shouldn’t have let Zara into my home. I messed up.She always reminded me of why I shouldn’t trust people. Zara had played me multiple times and I still feel for her manipulation. The last thing I remembered was letting her into my house and showing her to the living room. The next time I became conscious, I found myself in the dark room. I didn’t need anybody to tell me that Zara had a hand in it. She was the reason why I had been locked up for days. But I had no idea why she decided to do it. What was her motive? What did she have to gain? How long did she plan on holding me for? I had been thinking about my family all this while. They must’ve been looking for me but had no idea I had been trapped because of Zara. Parker was also on my mind, he would think I had been ignoring him. I mean, we had a little argument and he wouldn’t realize that I was missing. He would just assume that I was giving him the silent treatment because I was still upset.

Chapter 101Parker Wellington ~•~Two days! It had been two days since I last heard anything from Ivy. The last time we spoke was when I called to apologize about Mika. All my calls went straight to voicemail and she wouldn’t even respond to my texts. I thought we were cool. I thought she had forgiven me and moved past our last issue. But I guess that I was wrong. Ivy was giving me the silent treatment and it was killing me. I had tried my best to reach out to her but it was just a waste of time. Why did she have to punish me like that? I didn’t even do anything wrong. I decided to take a step back and wait for her until she was ready to reach out to me. Maybe she just needed space to process everything that happened. Her silence affected me so badly that I couldn’t even focus properly on work. I had made a few mistakes with some of the figures and even as I tried to correct them, I still couldn’t concentrate. “Are you done?” My assistant’s voice echoed after she knocked gen
