Chapter 26

Ivy Chase

~•~

My engagement with Sebastian had been the talk of the city for over two weeks. The blogs wouldn’t stop talking about it because of how everything went down.

Normally, I wouldn’t read the comments because I didn’t care what strangers on the internet had to say about my life, but this time around, I was curious to know what people had to say about that day.

Most people said I was courageous enough to expose my best friend on my special day, but some of them bashed me for embarrassing her like that.

Ever since that day, I hadn’t seen Zara.

Zara was a social media freak, but she hadn’t made a single social media post since then. I figured she was scared of what people would say to her.

Most times, I felt bad about the whole situation, but Zara actually deserved it. I mean, I always saw Zara as my sister and my best friend.

I never imagined she would actually stoop so low just to bring me down. She literally tried to put my life in danger. Embarrassing her in

Sometimes I wondered if it was because I offered to pay for the entire wedding but it still didn’t make any sense. Ivy has never been the one to squander money like that. She always had good money management skills. It was even she who helped me make the right financial decisions. But now, she was behaving like a totally different person.,She would pick the most expensive option even if there were other suitable choices. I couldn’t even say no because I didn’t want her to get upset.Maybe she was just excited about getting married. But it still felt weird.I didn’t even understand Ivy anymore. A few weeks ago, she tried breaking up with me. She wouldn’t even let me kiss her on the lips. I could sense that she was tired of me. But from the way she was excited about the wedding preparations, I couldn’t help but wonder if I was the one who was just misinterpreting her emotions. I wa

Chapter 28Ivy Chase ~•~“How did you manage to do that?” The event planner asked as we walked out of the jewelry store. She had a surprised expression registered on her face. I smiled, pretending like I had no idea what she was talking about. “How did I manage to do what?” I asked, feeling proud of what I had done. “I didn’t mean to pry, but you’ve been asking for expensive items and he has been buying it for you.” She responded, referring to Sebastian. A soft chuckle escaped my lips. “I’m his fiancé, I don’t have to do anything.” I shrugged my shoulders and held back a laugh.I knew exactly what I was doing. Sebastian was saying yes to everything because of what he had to gain in the end. I actually wasn’t expecting him to agree to spending such an amount on a piece of jewelry. I thought he would snap out and call me out on my recent behavior. But he didn’t. He was just being patient with me because of his ultimate goal. On our way back home, I decided to stop at the mall to

Chapter 29Ivy Chase ~•~Throughout the entire ride to my parent’s house, I couldn’t stop thinking about how I would face them. They had no idea what was going on and I wasn’t even interested in telling them about the reason why I was doing what I was doing. I couldn’t reveal the reason to anybody. My fingers were crossed, hoping that they wouldn’t exactly give me a hard time. I just hoped the invitation was a usual check-up. Soon enough, I arrived at the house. I let out a deep breath as I parked my car and stepped out of it. “They’re your parents, you don’t have to be nervous,” I whispered to myself as I made my way to the front door. The maid at the house answered the door and led me to the living room. I hadn’t been back to my house in a few months. Everything still looked the same.I didn’t want to sit and wait for my parents, so I just dropped my bag on the couch and headed upstairs to their room. I let out another deep breath as I stood in front of the large wooden door

Chapter 30Sebastian ~•~Zara didn’t give up on calling my phone. I had a lot going on and wasn’t in the mood to deal with her. But due to her incessant calls, I had no choice but to answer the phone. “What’s going on?” I asked with a hint of frustration in my voice. “I’ve been calling you for two days but you’ve been ignoring me.” She whined as she responded. “What are you up to?” It was the weekend and I didn’t have anything to do, but I had to come up with an excuse to get her off my back. “I have some paperwork to go over.” I said, trying to sound convincing. Zara’s skepticism was palpable. “Mhmm, but it’s the weekend. I wanted us to hangout.” I sighed, rubbing the back of my head with my hands. “I’m busy, can we reschedule?” Zara scoffed. “No, I’m coming over.” She didn’t even give me a chance to protest. She abruptly ended the call before I could say anything. Zara was unhinged and I knew she was on her way to my house. But I couldn’t have her at my house. It was too r

Chapter 31Sebastian ~•~As I drove away, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. Zara was like a ticking time bomb, and I had no idea how I was going to handle her. I could only hope that she doesn’t end up doing anything reckless. I had to be careful because Zara was unpredictable, and I couldn’t risk her exposing me to Ivy. After a short ride, I arrived at my house. As I walked into the house, I saw that my mother was already seated at the dining table, having a glass of juice as she waited for me. “Hey, Ma.” I kissed her on the forehead before settling down on the empty chair beside her. “Sebastian, you bought a $99,000 necklace for Ivy?” My mother went straight to the point as she asked. “Why did you spend so much money on a necklace?” She added, letting out a disappointed sigh. My mother caught me off guard. I had no idea she even knew about the necklace. I wasn’t even expecting her to come down to my house just to scold me about a necklace. I opened my mouth to spe

Chapter 32Ivy Chase ~•~“You’re leaving already?” My mother asked as I informed her that I was leaving. I responded with a simple nod. “Yes, I have something to take care of.” My mother exhaled heavily. “I hope you think about what your father and I said to you today. I don’t want you to get into someone that you’ll end up regretting.” I managed a smile. “Yes, ma’am. I’ll think about it.” With that, I made my way out of the house and headed to my car. As I drove out of my parents house, I couldn’t help but wonder what Sebastian’s mother wanted to talk to me about. I hadn’t seen her in a while. And I was guessing that she wanted to talk to me about the wedding. I increased my speed and a few minutes later, I arrived at Sebastian’s house. “Please, just be patient with her.” Sebastian whisphered in my ear as opened the door for me. A confused expression was registered on my face. I didn’t even get a chance to ask any questions before he led me to the dining room and announced

Chapter 33Ivy Chase ~•~As I talked about my $500,000, everywhere went silent. All of a sudden, the mother didn’t have anything to say anymore. She was just staring at Sebastian with a disappointed look on her face. “Talking about the $500,000 at this point is so insensitive.” His mother finally spoke after a few minutes of uncomfortable silence. “What?” I asked with an unbelievable scoff. “But it isn't insensitive for you to call me here and embarrass me because of the money I am spending on my wedding preparations?” His mother rolled her eyes. “I’m just trying to reason with you here.” She replied, her voice rising. “If you can just listen and return the necklace, everyone will be okay.” It was even surprising to me that I had been standing there for minutes, listening to her as she insulted me. And the fact that Sebastian had been quiet all this while was baffling. “Like I already said before, I’m not going to return the necklace.” I kept my tone as respectful as possible.

Chapter 34Sebastian ~•~As I watched my mother and Ivy go back and forth with each other, I wanted to join the conversation but I didn’t want to say the wrong things. I didn’t want to say something that would upset my mother or even Ivy. I felt so helpless and lost. I shouldn’t have asked Ivy to come over to the house. I should’ve found another way to convince my mother to let go of it. I knew she was genuinely concerned about my finances but having her and Ivy in the same room was a terrible idea. I should’ve just assured her that I was going to do better. I was so relieved when I finally walked my mother out of the house. As we walked over to her car, I tried my best to calm her down because she was so angry. “Are you sure that’s the lady you want to spend the rest of your life with?” My mother asked, staring at me with a concerned look. I sighed. “It’s not like that, you shouldn’t have asked her to return the necklace,” I said, running my hands through my hair. My mother gl

Chapter 109Ivy Chase~•~When Parker returned to the room, he saw me holding his phone. “What did you see?” He asked as he took a step closer to me. “They asked you to come back but you refused,” I said as I handed his phone back to him. “What’s going on? Why did you quit and want to throw everything away?” Parker sighed. “They don’t have my best interest at heart.” He replied as he sat down next to me. “They refused to allow me to come back here and ended up giving me an ultimatum.” “And so what? They’ve realized their mistake and they want you back.” After everything that happened, I couldn’t let Parker give up on his dreams just because I needed saving. Parker shook his head, his eyes filled with determination. “I’ve already made up my mind. It’s too late and I’m not interested anymore.” He declared. “What happens next when there’s an emergency and they don’t let me leave? Do I just quit again?” “What would your parents say? It was a great opportunity and I don’t think you sh

Chapter 108Ivy Chase~•~“What do you mean by you’ve quit your job?” I asked with a hint of amusement in my voice. “You’ve worked so hard there and you just want to throw everything down the drain?” Parker sighed. “They gave me an ultimatum.” I raised my eyebrows. “What was the ultimatum?” He closed his eyes briefly, letting out a deep breath. “Let’s get you cleaned up and make sure you eat before talking about it.” I shook my head. “No, let’s talk about it right now.” I declared firmly without hesitation. “What was the ultimatum?” I repeated my question. “We will talk about it when we get home.” Throughout the rest of the ride, a frown was plastered across my face. There was nothing I could say that would convince Parker to change his mind and tell me about what was going on. It didn’t make sense for him to quit just like that. This was something he wanted so badly. It even caused a strain in our relationship at one point. I didn’t believe that he would just wake up one day

Chapter 107Ivy Chase~•~“How is it your fault?” I asked Parker, my brows etched in confusion. “Let’s leave this place first, I’ll explain everything to you in the car,” Parker replied, his voice measured. I was reluctant at first, but I eventually agreed. I didn’t want to spend another second in the house. Parker led me to the car, and I was relieved to know that I was finally free. But I couldn’t stop thinking about how it was Parker’s fault. Soon enough, I settled down in the car and fastened my seatbelt. Then Parker started the car and drove out of the deserted area. “So tell me everything,” I said, staring at him in anticipation. Parker sighed and started explaining. By the time he was done, my eyes grew wide in shock. “What? So they decided to come after me just because of a bad deal that happened years ago?” Parker nodded, his eyes filled with guilt. “Yes, I’m so sorry, Ivy. I couldn’t even tell your parents because I didn’t know how they would react to the news.” I

After all these years, they decide to come after me now? I had no idea how I would even break the news to Ivy’s family. They would hate me for making their daughter go through something like that. When we took Zara to the station, she refused to say anything. She wouldn’t even talk with Ivy’s family present. I guess she was scared because there was no way in hell that she was doing it just to protect me. Ivy’s family had to leave before she agreed to talk. I was the only one she wanted to talk to. I was confused at first but I finally understood her reason after she explained everything to me. Zara was approached by a group of businessmen. She gave me a name. Chapter 105Ivy Chase ~•~I had no idea how long I had been passed out, but the next time I opened my eyes, I heard a loud noise coming from outside where I had been kept. My body was weak and I felt so dizzy. I tried to stand up but my legs weren’t cooperating. The noises outside were getting louder and it sounded like people were engaged in a heated argument. I managed to crawl closer to the door even though the concrete floor was hard and rough. When I finally got close, their voices were muffled and I couldn’t hear what they were saying. Frustrated, I decided to hit the door multiple times and screamed out for help. Everywhere went silent for a few minutes. But nobody answered me. Then they continued talking. I didn’t give up. I kept on hitting the door, hoping someone would come to my rescue. I had been kept hostage without a reason for so long. I had a life and wanted to get back to it. The worst part was that they didn’t even say what they wanted. Why would they kidna

Chapter 104Parker Wellington ~•~I felt a wave of different emotions - anger, frustration, sadness, disappointment - after I watched the CCTV footage. Why the fuck did Ivy allow Zara inside her home? After everything the girl had done to her, she still let her inside. I couldn’t help but wonder how their conversation went. What could she have possibly said to convince Ivy? A few hours after she let Zara into her house, a group of masked men walked in right after. Then they took Ivy away while she was unconscious. I had no idea what Zara had done to her. The police had already started searching for Zara but she was nowhere to be found. I knew that Ivy wouldn’t just ghost everybody. She was in danger and I couldn’t help but wonder what Zara’s motive was. Why would she do something like that to her best friend? As I returned to my house, I slammed the door behind me, the loud crash echoing my frustration. It was late and I needed to get some rest, so I wouldn’t be exhausted in

Chapter 103Ivy Chase ~•~I shouldn’t have let Zara into my home. I messed up.She always reminded me of why I shouldn’t trust people. Zara had played me multiple times and I still feel for her manipulation. The last thing I remembered was letting her into my house and showing her to the living room. The next time I became conscious, I found myself in the dark room. I didn’t need anybody to tell me that Zara had a hand in it. She was the reason why I had been locked up for days. But I had no idea why she decided to do it. What was her motive? What did she have to gain? How long did she plan on holding me for? I had been thinking about my family all this while. They must’ve been looking for me but had no idea I had been trapped because of Zara. Parker was also on my mind, he would think I had been ignoring him. I mean, we had a little argument and he wouldn’t realize that I was missing. He would just assume that I was giving him the silent treatment because I was still upset.

Chapter 101Parker Wellington ~•~Two days! It had been two days since I last heard anything from Ivy. The last time we spoke was when I called to apologize about Mika. All my calls went straight to voicemail and she wouldn’t even respond to my texts. I thought we were cool. I thought she had forgiven me and moved past our last issue. But I guess that I was wrong. Ivy was giving me the silent treatment and it was killing me. I had tried my best to reach out to her but it was just a waste of time. Why did she have to punish me like that? I didn’t even do anything wrong. I decided to take a step back and wait for her until she was ready to reach out to me. Maybe she just needed space to process everything that happened. Her silence affected me so badly that I couldn’t even focus properly on work. I had made a few mistakes with some of the figures and even as I tried to correct them, I still couldn’t concentrate. “Are you done?” My assistant’s voice echoed after she knocked gen
