Chapter 6

"I can go on my own from here you don't need to follow me” Juliet said and Alex shook his head. “They said you needed a lot of rest. I will drop you off at your house” He insisted and this made her sigh. Why was this man so persistent, it was getting on Her nerves. She glanced at him and it didn't look like he was going to stop the car...

“Alright just drop me off at the park then, I can walk home from there”

Julie wasn't sure if it was okay for him to know where she lived. He didn't seem like he would harm her. He even took her to the hospital when she had passed out. She was beyond Shocked when she opened her eyes and found him staring at her…

“Since it's close to your place. Isn't it better if I drop you off then…”

“Fine…whatever!” Julie finally agreed when she realized how persistent he was… she told him her address and they rode in silence, occasionally glancing at him…

“I'm Alex,” He said out of the blue and she nodded. “I know your name and I gathered I haven't told you mine yet” He added and she nodded again and smiled slightly, unsure of what to say to him.

“You haven't told me what you were doing at the park” That was what she was curious about. Why did he come back there? She hadn't seen him before… he didn't look like he was from around…

“Oh…I was just curious” She raised her brow in question.

“Curious? About?”

“If you were okay” Alex answered truthfully and silence reigned Between them after. “Why would you be curious about that?” Julie muttered In a low voice and turned to look outside the window. Her eyes were starting to become blurry With tears. What was his deal? Why did he keep asking if she was okay? And why was she suddenly vulnerable anytime he asked that…

“As you can see I'm fine” Her voice gave her away and Alex's eyes became etched with concern… he knew she wasn't okay even if she denied it…

“You haven't had lunch yet. How about we get something to eat” He suggested trying to lighten the mood in the car and perhaps divert her attention…

It was true, Julie was hungry. She hadn't had a single bite for more than twenty-four hours and she was sure if she returned home she wouldn't…

She turned to look at him and nodded slowly. “I know a place,” She said in a low voice. She didn't want to eat close by and risk running into one of the area gossipers. She Didn't Even want to return home and truthfully preferred staying with this oddly nice stranger…Alex…

Alex nodded and turned the car around. The silence between them Soon returned. Julie stared out the window and Alex glanced at her occasionally…

When they arrived at the place, it was oddly not crowded and Julie had chosen a table at the side of the restaurant that was quiet and more private.. Alex had learnt from being around her that she preferred to keep to herself more…When their food arrived watched her just staring at it and not eating…

“Do you want something else?” he asked when a few minutes passed and she still didn't touch her food.

“No. I was just reminded of something” She replied and took a sip out of her drink…

“Why are you being nice to me?” She blurted out and Alex was a bit taken aback by her question. He didn't realize he was being nice…

“Oh. Nice? Well, I'm not sure if I am…anyone would do the same” Julie sighed because she had an inkling that that would be his response…

“You could have left after taking me to the hospital and now we are having lunch together? Don't you find it weird because I do”

Alex found it weird too. He found it weird that he kept worrying about her. He should have left the hospital but he couldn't leave her all by herself when the nurse told him she needed a lot of rest and for a moment he thought About taking her to his house so he could have this doctor check on her, but he knew that would freak her out when she regained consciousness.

“I couldn't leave you on your own after you passed out like that. What if you passed out once again”

Julie almost rolled her eyes at him, but she knew it might make her seem ungrateful. She slowly picked up her burger and took a bite out of it and Alex couldn't hold back a smile. She seemed better now, he took a bite out of his food too. They both ate in silence, Julie staring at him curiously. What did he want from her? Did he perhaps like her? She doubted it, he seemed more like a good samaritan to her, who was worried about a sobbing woman he had met by chance. But he seemed a bit too worried...

She was about to pay but he bit her and paid for their lunch. He even ordered takeout for her leaving her more confused…

He was being too nice…

“Send me your account, let me pay for my food myself… you don't have to pay for me” She said as they walked out of the restaurant, but it only made a slight smile appear on Alex's face…

“Give me your phone number, and I will send it to you” He handed her his phone and she typed in her number and his Smile widened…

“I have your number now” He muttered, relieved that her mood had lightened.

They rode to her place in silence and when they finally arrived at her house Julie said to him “Thank you” and he nodded. He thought she was just thanking him for taking her to the hospital but Julie was grateful for something else.

He made her forget her grief for a moment…she was grateful for that…
