Juliet watched as they lowered her mother's coffin into the ground. Not a single drop of tears left her eyes as she watched. Her eyes were empty as she watched, then slowly started to cover the grave, but her heart was the contrast. Her heart hurt so bad as she watched, and she wanted to rip it out of her chest so it would stop hurting… But she couldn't, and it only made it unbearable for her to watch. One of the men working asked her a question, but she couldn't process his words, so he understood and let her be…
Florence, on the other hand, was a mess. Her eyes were completely swollen and red, and she was sobbing behind Juliet. Juliet sighed and turned to look at Florence. One would mistake her as the daughter at one glance. She patted her neighbour's arm, trying to console her, and it only made her cry the more Flo was the only one who had shown up. No one from the wake yesterday showed up, and she preferred it that way, but she wondered if her mother was sad that no one showed up. Her mother had been nice to them, but she realised now that all of that didn't matter to people. They were just bad if they chose to be… Was her mother watching now and regretting why she was nice to them? Juliet knew her mother too well, and even though her mother was given a chance at life once again, she would still be nice to the same people who didn't show up for her burial… “I can't believe she is gone. She was such a nice person” Flo said in between her sobs, and a slight smile appeared on Juliet's face. That she couldn't deny. Her mother had been nice. Way too nice for her liking, it had caused a lot of disagreements between them when She was alive. She would always get mad when her mother was nice to someone who wasn't ever going to reciprocate it. “Yes, she was. Way too nice” Juliet muttered As they walked away… “You should have moved already but I would have taken care of everything myself. I feel bad that you couldn't move because of everything that happened” Florence shook her head as she sniffed. “How could I leave? I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I did” Good people still existed, Juliet thought. She was happy she had met someone like Flo, who cared… Florence stopped in her tracks and held Juliet's hand in hers. “I'm worried about you Julie…are you sure you are fine…” Flo said, worry laced in her voice… Florence's eyebrow was scrunched in concern for Julie… she wasn't showing her pain and keeping it within her. Flo had learned that about Julie. She loved to keep to herself, but sometimes it was good to let it all out. It worried her deeply… “To be honest, I'm not…but I've decided not to think too much about it” Juliet replied. She knew she was far from fine but she was used to dealing with her problems on her own and hated being a burden to people… Especially Flo… she didn't want to be a burden to her, she had done more than enough… Florence gave her a warm hug and patted her back. “I can't tell you everything is going to be alright Julie… it's hard to forget someone…if you ever need anyone to talk to, I'm always a call away okay…” Juliet nodded. She knew Flo was sincere… Florence offered Juliet a ride but she declined politely, saying she needed some time alone, which Flo understood… Juliet walked slowly, her eyes on the busy street of the city. Office Workers chattered as They walked past her, and she guessed they were on their way back from their lunch break. They all looked happy, unlike her. She was like a gloomy weather close to a rainbow as she crossed the street… her heart ached… She stopped just by an alley and took in a deep, steadying breath. Her stomach had started to hurt, and she was tired from walking… her hand travelled to her stomach as she glanced at her feet… She had jogged down the whole bottle of wine on an empty stomach and woke up with the worst hangover and now her feet hurt… plus she was starting to develop a headache… it didn't help that it was hard to catch a taxi around this side of the city during the mid-day, the taxi’s preferred to work during the evenings and night because of the closing rushing hour. And she had missed the bus earlier because she wanted to walk, but now she was having second thoughts. She should have accepted the ride from the flo, Juliet regretted… Juliet sighed deeply when her eyesight started to become blurry with tears, which she wiped away before they even had the chance to roll down her cheeks… it was really hard to be strong… She wiped the rest of her tears and continued on and finally after walking for more than an hour she got a park. Juliet stopped in her tracks when her eyes fell on a bench. It was the same bench from last night where she had sat with the nice stranger. She walked to the bench and sat on it. Her shoulders slumped due to tiredness… Her eyes slowly started closing as the afternoon breeze blew her hair around her face. She could hear the rustling of leaves, and it somehow comforted her… “Hi” a voice caught her attention, and her eyes immediately flew open abruptly. She turned to see who the voice belonged to and found a man seated at the far end of the bench staring at her with concern in his eyes. It didn't take long for Juliet to recognise who he was… “You…” she muttered… her eyed growing wide… what was he doing here… She could see his face more clearly now… Before he could say anything, Juliet got up and started to walk off, and from the side of her eyes, she could see the man standing up also. “Please don't follow me…” She muttered and hastened her pace, but he didn't relent and walked after her…what did he want? Just as Juliet was about to make a turn so she could avoid him, the world started to spin around her, and the next thing she knew, everything became blank…Alex glanced at his watch for the nth time. The meeting was taking longer than he had expected. It had been over an hour and he wanted to leave already. He glanced At Patrick who had already noticed how restless he was. Alex brought out his phone and messaged Patrick. Alex: [Can you round things up for me here? I need to be somewhere right now] Patrick: [But sir you have a lunch meeting after this meeting] Alex raised his eyes and glared at his secretary and Patrick immediately nodded and knew not to ask any more questions. “I need to leave Mr Charles. Mr secretary will continue from here” Alex said and shook hands with the investor, who didn't seem a bit annoyed that he was leaving. Alex took the car keys from Patrick and left a bit in a hurry. He sighed deeply as he started his car engine and drove the car out of the parking lot. He just wanted to check… he just wanted to know if she was okay… Alex wasn't sure how but he could only think of the park where they had sat together
"I can go on my own from here you don't need to follow me” Juliet said and Alex shook his head. “They said you needed a lot of rest. I will drop you off at your house” He insisted and this made her sigh. Why was this man so persistent, it was getting on Her nerves. She glanced at him and it didn't look like he was going to stop the car...“Alright just drop me off at the park then, I can walk home from there” Julie wasn't sure if it was okay for him to know where she lived. He didn't seem like he would harm her. He even took her to the hospital when she had passed out. She was beyond Shocked when she opened her eyes and found him staring at her…“Since it's close to your place. Isn't it better if I drop you off then…” “Fine…whatever!” Julie finally agreed when she realized how persistent he was… she told him her address and they rode in silence, occasionally glancing at him… “I'm Alex,” He said out of the blue and she nodded. “I know your name and I gathered I haven't told you mine
Alex watched as she walked to her front door and he let out a sigh. She turned to look at his car and he smiled. She had that same curious look on her face as she entered her house… she was curious about who he was, but she didn't bother to ask even once…He was glad she was fine. He had been shocked when she passed out in front of him. He had also found out her name. Juliet, her name was Juliet…He started his car engine and drove off when his phone buzzed. “Where have you been sir!” Patrick sounded frantic at the end of the line…“I'm not a child Patrick. Can't I spend some time alone” “You can sir. But I was worried when I couldn't reach you, I was afraid of you…” Patrick trailed off and the smile on Alex's face was soon replaced with a frown…“That didn't happen, you don't have to worry… how did the meeting go?” “It ended well sir, they accepted the deal” “That's good to know. I'm going home. You can leave early today” Alex ended the call after. His demeanour had taken a comple
Juliet sat in front of the TV trying to distract herself, but she could barely concentrate on the movie and her whole mind was preoccupied with something else, or rather someone else… Alex. Why couldn't she stop thinking about him. He was just a nice samaritan and nothing more. But he had strangely comforted her. She had felt a peace in her heart when she was with because with him, she couldn't hide her feelings deep within her. She was vulnerable when she was with him and a part of her hated that. If he kept showing up, she didn't want to slowly start relying on him. A stranger, was he still a stranger now. Yes! He was a stranger, she only knew his name and that was all. She groaned and turned the volume of her TV… Why couldn't she stop thinking about him!.Her phone rang, startling her a bit. She picked it and saw that it was her boss. The deadline! She had totally forgotten about it. She sighed exasperatedly and waited for her phone to ring to the end… but it started to ring again
"You can't come in,” Julie said sternly as she stood by her locked door. “I know…I'm not allowed to come In… yet” he muttered the last part and almost smiled. “What did you say” “nothing. I should get going” He said, but Julie stopped him with her words. “Who are you really?” Alex stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her, unsure if it was okay to tell her his identity. Would she try to avoid him if he told her? People tend to avoid him trying to become closer when they find out who he is… He didn't want to find out what would happen. Especially not from her. “I'm a guy who would like to see you again…” He replied, and Julie's eyes grew wide. Her cheeks became stained with a bit of red. She cleared her throat and looked away. Just as he was about to go, she said “I love the park” And she entered her house after, leaving Alex alone, staring at her door with a smile on his face. His smile only grew wider as he walked to his car, but once he got into his car and checked hi
Julie tried to hold back a smile as she worked on her laptop, but it was hard when her thoughts kept trailing back to him. Who was he, and why was he making her this way with just some simple words? And why did she have to give a reply like that? She should have told him not to show up again, other than she wanted him to show up again. She glanced at her calendar and saw that a week had passed already. During the whole week…she had oddly been thinking about him showing up. And he finally did, when she had decided to forget about him. She wanted to know more about this Stranger dude. She even let him walk her own, something she would normally never allow. She would have found ways to avoid him, like she did to most people. “Mom, what do you think… Do you think he is a creep…should I be more careful” She muttered as she finished her work and closed her laptop. She yawned and stretched her hand, her eyes darting to her clock. It was past midnight… She got up and slowly walked to he
"Julie!" Juliet stopped in her tracks when she heard her name and turned to see who it was, but she immediately regretted it and wished she would have just ignored... It was Mrs Flicher, the number one gossiper in the area, and juliet was aware that she wad part of their daily gossip. she had overheard then at the supermarket a few blocks aware, gossiping about her in broad day, and she couldn't believe what came out of their mouths. they didn't even know her, and they thought it was okay to talk that way about her... Mrs Flicher was number on the list of people juliet wanted to avoid... Her mother wasn't here anymore to stop her from saying her mind now... Mrs Flicher quickly walked to where juliet was standing, a smile which Juliet knew was fake was on the older woman's face... "I'm so glad I ran into you." She started and held Juliet's hand... "I heard about your mother. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the wake. I was away for a few days. " Juliet knew she was telling a lie but
"Find out who he has been going to see and do it discretely. You know what will happen it he find out about this" Michelle instructed her P.A, there was no way she was going to let Alex get his way, not after she had to go through in the hands of his father. he had to compensate her for all the years she had suffered. She was going to make him do what she wanted. "Don't you think you are being too much. Why can't you just leave him be Michelle... you will make him dislike you the more. " Caroline tried to advise her sister, but it was like talking to a wall. She saw the determination in Michelle's eyes and knew nothing she said would ever get through to her. She was bent on doing what she wanted. "You off all people shouldn't say that to me!" Michelle channelled her anger to Caroline, who was just trying to advise her, and Caroline sighed, yes, a wall. "Don't regret this later on, I warned you," "Shut your mouth. You weren't the one who was forced to marry someone against their wil
