Grayson’s POV

Days before the school trip, Mom called to come see her and I thought I could squeeze in a day or two.

I took the three hour trip from County to Starry town. It was still just how I remembered it.

Everything was the exact same, except my mom. She was with someone else, but she wasn't too happy and didn't look good either.

“Hey Ma.” I said, as soon as I got in.

“Hey baby. How are you?” She asked,

“I'm fine ma.” I replied to her. “I don't know what to say of you though.” I said, daring to talk about something I knew could be sensitive to her.

“Just say it, Son, say it.” She said,

“Mom, you look bad.” I said.

I didn't like seeing her like that.

She had two more sons from her other marriage.

“It's not his fault,”She said.

“That's all the answer I need mom. I didn't even ask if it was him.” I replied, pissed.

“Gray, this isn't your battle to fight. I have to stay for Mike and Jerry.” She said, more to herself than to me.

Emma's POV “Gray and Lily are acting weird.” I told Chase. “Is that so?” He asked, seeming so unconcerned. “Yeah. I wanted to sit by them and they were so hostile.” Replaying it in my head made me almost want to cry. Heartbreaks were bad, but friendship breakups too were somewhere on that list of things that could make someone go mad. “Did they say anything?” Gray asked. “Anything like what?” I had a sneaky feeling that he knew something, but Chase wasn't a really readable person. “I don't know. Something out of the ordinary?” He asked. . He was so engrossed in his food, one would've thought that it wasn't his best friend we were talking about. “Their whole freaking attitude was. That's the exact fucking thing I'm saying.” His ‘I don't care’ attitude was getting on my nerves. I was already on the verge of tears, and he wasn't helping matters. “Just go somewhere else.” I said. “And you're complaining about Gray and her?” Chases rarely ever called Lily by h

Emma's POV Chase came and sat right next to me as I predicted. Lily still didn't move a finger “What's going on?” I whispered in her ear. “I don't want to talk right now.” She said back. “Why?” I asked her. “Cause we're in class?” She sounded quite sassy, but I wasn't ready to back down. Just then, Jessica passed by. “Man and wife, bitch and man.” She said, Grayson was sitting on one end, Lily followed, I did, then Chase. I didn't need to be told that she was referring to me. Shockingly, Gray acknowledged her. I looked at Chase to check if he saw the exchange they had just happened, and I confirmed he did. His look wasn't pleasant. “What's going on man?” I read the note he passed to me and looked at him. “Pass it on to Gray.” He said. I passed it to Gray, boycotting Lily. I doubt she would touch anything Chase touched even with the longest of spoons. Gray passed the paper back through Lily who gave me when she could have reached for Chase directly. I sent

Emma's POV “Still going out with me?” Chase popped his head in my room and asked I had long stopped bolting my door. It didn't stop anything. Every single time I tried to do it, thinking it would keep me away from Chase, it only brought me closer to him. I'd overthink myself into unlocking the door again. “That's the most hideous hat I ever saw.” I joked with him. “There's more where it came from.” He responded. He was obviously in a better mood, and it was good, for me. “I'm sorry about earlier.” I apologized, getting out of bed. “That's alright. I'm the villain in every story. Hurry up before I show you why that is.” He joked with a little wink. Chase was crazy, there was no going back about it. “Alright.” I replied, laughing. “Would you like me to watch, or you'd rather I stayed out in the cold?” He asked, with a very exaggerated sense of need. “I'd rather you froze over than watch me get dressed.” I replied to him. . He made a very funny disappointed fa

Emma's POV “Emma, all you're being right now is irrational.” Chase said as he parked in his dads garage. He had a bit of trouble trying to reverse and park in a garage which contained no less than ten luxury cars. “I can't remember asking for your opinion.” I replied to him. “You don't have to. I literally told you what happened and now it somehow comes back to bite me in the ass.” He said. “Chase, please just park and let me get out.” I replied. “Emma, please.” He said, turning the engine off. “I never should have told you anything.” “Is that an attempt at making me pity you?” I asked him. I wasn't feeling the game he was playing. All I wanted was to be alone. The next day, we were gonna be taking pictures in our uniform for the school yearbook. I needed to rest and breathe if I was going to be amongst people who thought I was a killer. I can't believe the whole school walked about seeing me like that. “You can run, Emma.” You can't hide. I went up still, not

Emma's POV I wasn't going to let their disrespect slide anymore. She most likely already heard my voicemail, and still didn't reply to me. “Lily, don't you think you're being a little too bitchy.” I said, dragging her back by the shoulders. “Take your hands off her.” Gray turned back and screamed at me. We were causing a scene as students had begun to gather to watch us in the hallway. “Shut the fuck up.” Lily's tiny voice boomed through the air. But she wasn't referring to me, she was talking to Chase.I stood aside and let them battle their shit out. “You're a fucking liar. A fucking cheat. You said she meant nothing to you.” Lily screamed at him. “Lily. Come on. This isn't even the place for this. We're causing a scene. Let's talk somewhere else.” I could see the guilt in Chase's eyes. Lily kept crying and sobbing and speaking incoherently. I wanted to hold her, but I didn't know how she'd react, so I stayed put. Her hair was already disheveled. She launched a

Chase's POV Emma was avoiding me, and I got it. I finally told my infatuated self that it was probably time to step back a bit. So I played her game well. I didn't want to have to sit among the many people who I knew never liked me. Almost all the friendships I ever had were false or forced, and I was used to that. I barely had anyone genuine till... I stayed in classes throughout lunch break, waiting for the day to end so I could go back to my meaningless and purposeless life. It was about ten minutes till the next class when I started hearing noise and commotion in the walkway. I wanted to sit it out as there was always something like that in a school where everyone wanted power and fame. I let it go on for another five minutes, when I heard Gray scream Emma's name. I stood up and went to where everyone was gathered, which was obviously where they had their fight. The show was over, but their audience was still thrilled and happy. Saying all sorts of things about Gray, and

Lily's POV I probably seem like the bad guy in the story. But as always, I don't care, I never cared. I hadn't gotten past blaming my parents' very messy divorce for my misdemeanors. We had court hearings almost every other week. Like it wasn't bad enough, my dad always brought along our step siblings. I hated the whole idea of it. I know I came off as a child when I always asked them why they didn't just split and handle their shit on their own, but it was all really just annoying. Strangers who, for all who knows, might have a messy family issue themselves sitting to judge my family. I made enemies of all the attorneys and judges, for and against. I just decided I had had enough of it all, and decided to visit a private bar. I thought it was the drink when I saw someone who looked like Chase come in, so I didn't bother looking too much, for fear I'd embarrass the person. “Has to be him.” I said to myself. He did what my baby brother called ‘violent drinking’. Shot after

Emma's POV I literally thought my whole life had turned upside down, but it was the beginning of the mending of many of my relationships. First, with Lily. I sat far away from her in class, among the ‘zeros’, as Lily called them. People who had little to no appeal. I had begun to feel that way either way. Someone passed me a note. I saw Lily's poorly drawn heart shape on it and laughed. “I'm sorry, Emma.” The note read. “I didn't mean for that to happen. You're a really pretty girl, you can't blame me so much.” She drew a very funny face next to it. I was still baffled, but I liked the fact that she was making a joke out of it. It made the air feel less tense. “It really caught me unawares.” I replied to her and sent it back. People were already looking at us and wondering how we were talking and laughing and exchanging notes barely an hour after the showdown in the lobby. “I know. I'm so sorry. It's messing with me again.” She wrote with a tear faced badly drawn man ne

Lily's POV Emma and I were gonna have premium fun, and I was gonna make sure of it. I didn't cancel my trip to Berlin to sulk and cry with Emma. “Do we go on our spree first?” I asked her. Her face looked conflicted when she got into the car after she and Chase's little pep talk. I hated to see my girl like that. “Yeah.” She confirmed. Good to know we were still on track. I need some summer dresses and sunshades for Berlin myself, and maybe boots too. “What's on your mind?” I asked her. She looked like she wasn't really with me, in the car. “I'm scared.” She said, “Why?” I asked her. “For a lot of reasons.” She said, “Start with the one on your mind now.” I said. “Everything.” She said, She was rubbing her hands furiously. “Everything is wrong.” “That can't be true.” I said. “You have a life many are only jealous of.” I said. “You're just trying to make me feel better. It would have worked when I was younger and dumber, but I'm smart now, Lily.” Her

Emma's POV. I did one last outfit check before heading down to Lily's. It wasn't much, but it was pretty, cute, demure. I took these stairs carefully, gently, just so if Chase was around, he would not hear me come down. It wasn't exactly like I was running from him, I just wasn't in the mood for any explanation. I just wanted to do what I wanted to do and be happy. The front door was left ajar, which was quite unusual, but not strange, since he was still somewhere around. “Here she comes.” Chase beamed. They had just broken their hug, and he and Lily were looking in my direction. I almost wobbled under their gaze. Their faces were so smiley, so expectant, I was tempted to look back to confirm if there was something else that had their attention. “You look so fucking pretty.” Lily said, hugging me and planting a kiss on my forehead. “Thank you.” I croaked. I was pinching myself, struggling to remind myself that the hug I just witnessed them break meant nothing. That the

Emma's POV I wasn't feeling up to talking to Chase when I woke up in the morning. That's not to deny that I didn't find his efforts cute. He sounded so happy, like if I stayed around him too much, he'd rub off on me. The pancakes he made, made their way into my nose, but my head was feeling a bit woozy, I was in fact trying to catch my balance. I didn't know that was enough to piss him off. I looked from the window opposite his bed, I could not see him. Meaning he didn't go so far. The pancakes were making me extra hungry, but I felt nasty, and weak. I stripped, half hoping Chase came in at that exact time. I took my time, taking my clothes off one after the other. I tarried a bit, waiting in sexy poses. I pinched myself. I was beginning to get too delusional, even for myself. I walked into the bathroom majestically. The blood flow had reduced, and for that I was grateful. Taking my time, I lathered my body carefully with a body scrub I'd just gotten. I felt fresh, diffe

Chase's POV. I was still very much haunted from how I reacted when Emma told me about it. Every time I saw her wear a painful look on her face I remembered how it mirrored the look she wore when she told me. The sleep at night was somewhat chaotic. She had a bout of nightmares. I was scared to my bones when I heard her scream the first time, but it was rather a relief when I saw she was still asleep. It happened three times more, and every single time, I got less scared than I was before. “How are you?” I asked. I'd been staring at her for over an hour, when the day was still a bit dark. “Better.” She replied, turning from me and facing the wall. I thought today was gonna be different. Maybe she'd be warmer, calmer, more composed. I had the most beautiful smile on, ready to make her world different from what it used to be. “I loved watching you sleep.” I said, like I'd done every morning since we'd been together. Emma's smile was a bit shy, or cold, frosty, I didn't w

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 106

Emma's POVHow the call ended was a bit strange. I didn't know why my mom had to cut it off. As much as I wanted to dash to Mark's, I wasn't feeling up to it and I had started to feel gnawing pains in my belly. I concluded my mom was gonna be alright and left it at that. When I called her, I wasn't expecting to hear her say those things she said, but they sure were what I needed to hear, in retrospection. Maybe it was better after all. My raw maternal instincts were mourning the baby, but a baby wasn't really what I needed. And she was right about the other part too. Chase and I were going to college in less than a month. She said two letters came from different schools for him, it was a lot more than a punch in my gut that he applied to two schools, none of which I applied to. I thought the plan was to be together. Apparently, I didn't mean so much to him. As I held my head in my hand, I cried to the God I don't know if I believed in. I'd been cheated so badly in my ver

  • Falling For My Stepbrother 1    Chapter 105

Emma's POV I changed out of my already stained towels. Chase just got them from a fancy women's store, online, about two days ago. I felt bad that it had to get ruined, but it was all part of my healing. The doctor said I was gonna be bleeding for about four days. After bawling my eyes out again on Chase's shoulders, I logged my tired body back into the bathroom to wash up. I was weak as fuck, and definitely worse of emotionally. I put a sanitary pad on and then went to bedI didn't think it was gonna be easy sleeping, so it was not a surprise when all that closing my eyelids did was usher in the horrible memories. I began to think of something I thought I'd cast to the back of my mind a long time ago. Every now and then, I felt Chase's hand on my body. It was hard to tell him that the hands I once died for, the hands I once fantasized about being wrapped in had started to irritate me. The day went by slowly, I subconsciously looked at the digital clock on the dressing ta

Chase's POV “Baby,” I called out to Emma as soon as we got back home, “I hate seeing you this way.” My voice snapped her out of her thoughts, she breathed deep and came out of the car, leaving both her phone and purse behind. “I'm really tired, Chase.” She said, “I just want to rest.” “That's totally fine.” I took all our stuff out of the car and ran after her. Let me help you.” She looked and felt weak. “Thank you.” She said, as I helped her up the stairs. “Can I get you something to eat?” I asked “I don't feel up to it right now.” She replied. “Can I just try?” I asked her. “Don't bother.” She snipped. “Do you need something else?” I asked her. “Just stay next to me.” She said, It felt like an honor to be told such by her. “Let me jump out of these clothes.” I tore the clothes, a reminder of where we'd been and what'd happened. “Pull me closer.” She cried. I pulled Emma so close. Her body felt heavier, and was even warming up. “I'm sorry, Emma.

Emma's POV “Would you have me read the results with him present?” The doctor asked me. “Yeah, he's my boyfriend.” I said, smiling. I rubbed Chase's face, pulling his beards with one hand, and rubbing my belly with the other. “You might want to sit up.” He said. “We are happy you came in for a check up today.” The kind old man said. I smiled. It was a big hospital downtown, fancy and very modern too. I felt more at peace with Chase by my side. “Emma Watson,” He wore the glasses which hung down from his neck and read my name out from a file in his hand, “I'm afraid, but we couldn't find a heartbeat.” I knew nothing about stuff like those. I'd never been or lived with a pregnant woman. I remember the look on their faces while the nurse kept tapping my belly and scanning round, but I didn't think it was a big deal. “What does that mean?” I heard Chase ask as my heart was already shattering, it could only mean one thing. My baby was dead. “Your baby is dead.” The doc

Chase's POVI knew I was kinda weird, maybe a bit confused. But I had genuine reason to believe Emma was doing too much. The food arrived soon, and we went to get it at the door. We were cool just a moment ago. I hate how we weren't yet at the point where we handle our shit maturely. “I'll get that.” I said, reaching for the bigger and heavier boxes. It was only instinctive to be more protective of her. She was carrying my baby. Whether or not we were ready for it. “Emma.” I called her quietly since we weren't both far from the rest’ earshot. “Yeah.” She turned, I saw the tear marks on her face. I was gonna say how I was sorry for blanking out on her, but the words just couldn't get out. “I'm…” I started, looking in multiple directions at once. “It’s okay.” Emma said, and walked in. I took a minute to process what had just happened. “Where were you man?” Gray screamed in delight as I entered. “Been looking in that direction for the past minute.” He added. I kn
