SEBASTIAN
The door pulled open and Chloe steps in, looking pristine in her white pencil skirt and black turn-up shirt. My fingers caressed the edge of the pen as I stared at her. I have never seen someone so breathtakingly beautiful in my life. "Sir, these are the documents you asked for," she said softly as she placed thick manila folders on the table. I quickly sat up, rearranging my expression to a professional one. There was no need to frighten her off by showing my emotional side. I was doing all these for her alone. I calmly took the folders and breezed through it quickly. "The Ferry's has agreed to sign the contract?" "Yes, Sir," she divulged. "Actually, their spokesperson just called this morning. According to them, they wish to start working on the project by tomorrow." I nodded absently. "That is all right. You should handle the rest with the team." "As you say, Sir, " she mumbled. I placed the document back on the desk, only to realise she was still standing where she was. There was something up. Calmly, I met her gaze, and noticed how she chewed her lower lip as she looked at me. "Is there something wrong, Chloe?" She stopped biting her lips, to mutter, "Yes!" I rose my brow at her, but she shook her head instead. "I mean, no!" She said, sounding flustered. "What I mean to say is that..." she gestured to the desk. "You've seen the way the news of our...marriage has spread around thanks to the newspapers. It's all everyone is talking about." "And, you're worried about this." I stated. She held my eyes with hers, as she whispered, "Yes. " Chloe shuffled from one foot to the next and despite the AC, I saw a sheen of sweat on her forehead. I sighed lightly as I leaned back on the chair. "Sit down, Chloe," I said softly. She blinked. "But, Sir?" "Now..." For a moment, I thought that she would defile me but then, she pulled the leather seat out and sat down. I could visibly see a bit of her cleavage, and I quickly moved to her face, to avoid thinking of wanton things. "Why are you worried?" She stated at me in shock. "Come on...you can't possibly act like you don't know why." I shrugged. "I may have an idea, but I need to hear from you. Talk to me, please," I said softly. She took a shaky breath and placed a hand on the table. "I thought of a lot of things before saying yes, but now, I wish I didn't. Your family isn't going to like the fact you're married to me. They don't know the truth about our relationship, and that would make it worse on you. It's so selfish of me to keep this facade on, knowing how much it would cost you, and...I'm not worth it." I growled in rage as my hands closed against the hand she placed on the table. "What the fuck did you just say?" She shivered in fear. "Chloe, we talked about this, and I told you how fucking talented you are. You're my best employee and I'm not going to kick you to the wolves, ok? You're definitely worth everything." "How could you be so sure?" I squeezed her hand even more. "Look at me," I ordered. She timidly did that, and I could see her lashes were wet with tears that she refused to let fall. Damn the bastard that broke her confidence this much! "I'm Sebastian Willis and I never say what I don't mean," I said firmly. She nodded repeatedly. "You don't need to be worried about anything. You complement me and I wouldn't have asked for another woman, Chloe to be my wife. I will handle my family, all you have to do is relax. " I watched Chloe as she sniffed, trying to calm her emotions down. There was nothing that I could do now, but hope that my actions proof to her that this marriage may be born out of convenience, but it wouldn't subdue her or make her feel less. I would always protect her. "Thank you, sir," she whispered as she rose to her feet, adjusting the skirt a bit. "I will take my leave now." I gave a curt nod as I watched her leave. It was going to be fine. The next few minutes, I spent time, making sure that the documents were in order, and thinking of the next thing to checkmate out of my list. My brother, Nathan saw me as a competition. He wanted me out of the way, and it was important to always be a step ahead of him. There was no telling what he was going to do to one-up Chloe. He hated her, and he must be riling in rage now that I had coveted her as mine. But, I don't care though. I will only do what I pleased when I want to. Suddenly, my phone buzzed. I peered at the phone, and realised that it was none other than my mom. I rolled my eyes, and kept working. But, my phone buzzed once more. It was literally my dad. This people don't know when to give it a fucking rest. They were just so nuts, but I was crazier. After treating me like crap for years, they want me to follow their rules which is never going to happen in this life! At 6 pm, I called it a day, picked up my black briefcase and then walked over to the reception. Chloe was just putting things into her bag. She turned almost immediately, her eyes wide in shock. "Sir?" I jerked my head towards the exit. "Are you done?" She snapped the bag shut, giving me a soft smile. "Yes!" "Let's go then," I said evenly. I waited for her to come close to me, and together, we made our way out of the office. I noticed the stares from the staffs, but I didn't care. The urge to pull Chloe closer was intense, but I shoved it down, not wishing to startle her. My black sedan slid through the curb, stopping right in front of us. But, that wasn't what got my attention. It was the range rover at the side which had my family logo on it. Mr Ethan, our family steward stood beside it, with black shades covering his eyes. "Chloe, you go on alone. I might be home late " I mumbled easily. I tapped her on the arm once, before moving towards Mr Ethan. I guess there was no way to escape my family today. I glared at him as he bowed to the ground. "Let's get this over with, okay?"SEBASTIAN The car whizzes through the low brown gates, and I try not to wince. This was the house I had grown up in. The tower-styled home was nothing but imposing, and there was nothing kind about it. But, what I hated most was these people thought that they had something to say about my life. "Stop the car here," I said simply to Mr Ethan. He said nothing as he pulled the car to a stop in front of the front patio. Without waiting for him to open the door, I jerked open the car door and snapped it shut before walking into the mansion. Carefully, I buttoned up my suit, as the guards greeted me easily. "Where are they?" I asked evenly. The tall one turned towards Father’s office. "Your mother is waiting for you at the boss’s office. I was told that you should come in alone." "I believe you aren’t blind. Did you see anyone around me?" He shook his head a bit. "No, I didn’t," he mumbled. But, I had moved past him. The walk to Father’s office was short. CHLOE I got home about an hour ago, but I couldn’t sit still. I haven’t even bothered to change out of my office clothes. How could I? I mean, I was not an idiot, and I knew that Mr Ethan wouldn’t personally come for Sebastian if it wasn’t serious. If it wasn’t about me... My fingers moved through my hair as I stared at the painting of Sebastian on the wall. No, I’m not vain to think that the world revolves around me just because I was entangled with Sebastian. But, I knew his parents wouldn’t understand me. I mean, Nathan was always going on about how they only saw me as a slave’s daughter and nothing more. That can’t change just because Sebastian dared to marry me. I can imagine it would only grow worse. I chewed on my finger as I tried to maintain a semblance of control. "It’s going to be fine," I whispered through my teeth. "Ma’am," came a timid voice behind me. I turned around to see Sebastian’s driver in front of me with his hat in his hands. "Is there a problem?" I wanted to run and hide, but the hand holding me down made it so difficult to do that. Instead, I slowly slid my gaze to the front,
CHLOE “I'm pregnant,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. My heart pounded in my chest as I looked at Nathan’s face, frozen in shock. What was he going to say now?“I was thinking…” I continued nervously, “There’s no need for us to hide this anymore. It's been years. I know how traditional your parents are. Even if they wouldn't ordinarily approve but now we can get engaged-”“You. Bitch.”I froze as I processed what he said. What?Nathan looked up and my heart sank at his quickly his expression had changed. His eyes were narrowed, “You're trying to trap me,” he sneered. “You think a baby will keep me tied to you?”I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Disbelief filled me."No, Nathan. I—"But he cut me off with a laugh, grating and bitter.“We had a good run Chloe,” he said and my blood turned cold. “What do you mean?” I asked, dread filling my gut. Surely he wasn't saying…“Don’t act dumb Chloe. I'm breaking up with you.” He said, voice cold and detached. “I don't want a

SEBASTIANI tapped the pen against the blue manilla folder as thoughts of the previous night threatened to get the best of me. Chloe’s panicked smile as she slid her hands into mine when the paparazzi had shown up was still in my mind. The fact that someone so smart was nervous about being seen with me puzzled me. How much had her ex hurt her, that she felt so lost?"I wish you can simply open up and talk to me, Chloe," I whispered slightly to the quiet office. But, I knew that was definitely not possible. She may have opened up a bit, but something told me that she didn’t trust me. I don’t know what to do to make her see that I wasn’t like her ex, and I was a better man than her ex.Shaking my head lightly, I couldn’t help the smile that touched my lips. Gosh!
