Elliot

I sat in my office, staring blankly at the untouched pile of paperwork in front of me. For the first time in years, I couldn’t focus. The numbers blurred together, and the graphs looked like meaningless squiggles. All I could think about was Susan.

Her laugh. The way her lips felt against mine. The softness of her skin. The way she whispered my name last night, with a mix of hesitation and desire that drove me insane.

I leaned back in my chair, running a hand through my hair as fragments of the night played over and over in my head like a broken record.

It had started innocently enough...a boss and his subordinate sharing a drink. But by the end of the night, we had crossed a line I wasn’t sure we could come back from. And honestly? I wasn’t even sure I wanted to.

Last night, I saw a side of Susan she kept hidden so well...a vulnerable, unguarded version of herself. She let me in, even if just for a few hours. And now, I couldn’t shake the feeling of wanting more.

The sound of her laughter echoed in my mind as I thought about how she teased me over that third glass of wine. She had this way of looking at me, challenging me with those sharp eyes, yet there was something softer underneath. Something that pulled me closer despite all the reasons I knew I should stay away.

And then there was the way she surrendered herself to me. That moment when all her walls came crumbling down, leaving nothing between us but raw emotion and aching desire.

I rubbed the back of my neck, heat creeping up my face. I needed to pull it together. She was probably in her office now, thinking about ways to act like nothing had happened, pretending she wasn’t feeling the same tug in her chest that I was.

A knock on my door broke my train of thought. Gerald poked his head in, holding a folder.

“You look like hell,” he said with a grin. “Late night?”

“Something like that,” I muttered, taking the folder from him and flipping it open.

Gerald smirked knowingly. “Must’ve been a good one. You’re smiling like a fool.”

I glared at him, trying to mask the grin I hadn’t realized was on my face. “Focus, Gerald. What do you need?”

He shrugged but didn’t push further. As soon as he left, my thoughts drifted back to Susan.

I couldn’t help but wonder how she was handling everything. Was she regretting it? Did she wake up this morning wishing last night hadn’t happened?

The thought twisted in my chest. I didn’t want her to regret it. Sure, it was impulsive and reckless, but it also felt right...like something that was supposed to happen.

But I knew Susan. She was guarded for a reason, and last night likely terrified her. She had let me into a part of her world she didn’t share with anyone, after ten years and that was no small thing.

I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my desk. No matter how this played out, I knew one thing for certain: I wasn’t going to let her shut me out. Not after last night.

Last night was more than just physical. It was a connection...a crack in her armor that let me see the woman underneath all the walls and sharp edges. And now that I’d seen her, I wasn’t sure I could go back to pretending I didn’t want her.

I don't need my thirty-days plan on winning her anymore, I've gotten her where I want her.

I stood up, pacing the room as a plan began forming in my mind. I wasn’t going to push her...not yet. But I also wasn’t going to let her pretend last night meant nothing.

One way or another, I was going to show Susan Hart that I wasn’t afraid of her walls, her doubts, or her fears. If she thought I was going to let her run, she was in for a surprise.

Because last night wasn’t the end...it was just the beginning.

SusanIt had been a week. Seven excruciatingly long days. The first two days were manageable—or so I convinced myself. After our conversation where I made it clear last week that whatever happened between us was a mistake, Elliot had taken me at my word. Or at least, that’s what it seemed like. He didn’t stop by my office. He didn’t acknowledge my presence when we passed each other in the hall. But by day three, things started to change.I walked into work that morning, coffee in hand, only to find a note on my desk from Gerald.“Please see me immediately regarding your office assignment.”What on earth? When I arrived at his office, Gerald greeted me with that ever-present, professional smile of his.“Good morning, Ms Hart. I hope you’re doing well,” he began, his tone overly chipper.I raised an eyebrow, already suspicious. “What’s this about my office assignment?”“Ah, yes. There’s been a change,” he said, sliding a folder across his desk toward me. “Mr. Prescott has decided it’s b

ElliotI was losing it.The scotch in my glass swirled as I tilted it, staring at the amber liquid like it held the answers to all my problems. The warm burn was supposed to drown the thoughts I couldn’t shake—the memory of her, of Susan, in my bed. Her voice, her scent, the way she looked at me before melting into my touch.A mistake, she’d called it.The very word churned in my chest like a twisted blade. If it was such a mistake, why couldn’t I stop thinking about her? Why couldn’t I get her out of my head?I tipped the glass to my lips, draining it in one go. The alcohol barely numbed the ache. I’d tried everything to distract myself this past week—work, late nights, even moving her office to another floor. I thought space would give me clarity, would make her absence easier to bear.It hadn’t.I wanted her.Not just in the fleeting, surface way I’d wanted women before. This was different. It was consuming. Primal. The things I wanted to do to her… God, they were filthy.I closed

My cheeks burned as I turned to see him beside me, sleeping soundly with his arm draped over my waist. I bit my lip, trying not to panic, but panic was brewing anyway. What the hell did I just do? My chest tightened with embarrassment. What was worse? The fact that I had let myself lose control or that it had been with Elliot Prescott? Trying to move carefully, I slipped out of his grasp, grabbed his shirt from the floor, and tiptoed to the bathroom. After splashing cold water on my face, I stared at my reflection in the mirror. Susan I had no idea why I agreed to this dinner. Maybe it was Elliot’s insistence, or maybe it was my own need to prove I wasn’t afraid of his mother. Either way, I found myself seated across from Mrs. Prescott in an exclusive restaurant, the air thick with tension. She was as intimidating as I remembered...poised, elegant, and utterly unreadable. The kind of woman who could tear someone apart with a single glance. And right now, all that cold, assessing energy was focused on me. The waiter had just poured our wine when she finally broke the silence. “I appreciate you agreeing to meet with me, Susan,” she said, though her tone held no warmth. “Of course,” I replied, keeping my voice steady. “Elliot told me you wanted to talk.” She took a sip of her wine before setting the glass down with precision. “Yes, I did. I wanted to meet the woman who has suddenly reappeared in my son’s life after all these years.” I stiffened at the way she said it. Like I had plotted my way back into E

Elliot’s Perspective – My Mother Wants to Meet Susan I should have expected this. The moment my mother pursed her lips at dinner, I knew she wouldn’t let it go. She wasn’t the type to accept something just because I said so—especially not when it came to my love life. So when she called me into her private study the next morning, I already knew where the conversation was headed. I shut the heavy mahogany door behind me and crossed my arms. “What is it, Mother?” She was seated on her pristine white couch, legs crossed, a cup of tea in her manicured hands. Her posture was regal, as always. Cold. Calculating. “I want to meet her,” she said without preamble. I exhaled sharply, running a hand through my hair. “No.” Her brows lifted. “No?” “You heard me,” I said. “Susan doesn’t need to be subjected to one of your tests.” She sighed, setting down her teacup. “Elliot, don’t be ridiculous. She’s about to marry into this family. It’s only natural that I meet her.” “No, what’s natural

Slowly, she lifted her head, her eyes widening in shock. “Excuse me?”I pursed my lips, gripping my cup like it was the only thing keeping me from spiraling. “Yeah. You heard me.”She blinked. Then blinked again. And then... “Oh my God.”I braced myself as she leaned forward, practically vibrating with excitement. “Tell me everything. When? Where? How? And why the hell are you not wearing a ring yet?”I groaned, running a hand through my hair. “It happened last night… after we… you know.”“Oh-ho,” she smirked, wiggling her brows. “After a little ‘I can’t keep my hands off you’ session?
