"Isn't this too soon?" Caroline asked reluctantly. She was reluctant to refuse but also felt that this was not the right time. Her mother had just been buried two weeks ago; now Jared was asking her for a wedding dress fitting. She was just worried about how people would judge them. What would people say? Their hearts were already dead, having rejoiced after the death of Caroline's parents. At least wait for a few months so it wouldn't become a topic of conversation.

"Are you going to change your decision to marry me? Are you not sure that I can make you happy, or do you doubt your own decision? Or maybe what Jake said was true—that you just wanted revenge, and now you feel that your game has gone too far and should be stopped?" Jared stared deeply. He was trying to extract the truth from Caroline's eyes.

Caroline shook her head. "Why do you always associate our problems with Jake? I think it's you who can't move on from my past. I never talked about him, but you always mention his na
