Scarlett
"Thank you again for letting me stay with you. I really appreciate it." I said as I trailed the man up the stairs. I didn't still know his name, and honestly, I wasn't sure he wanted me to know.
I didn't let myself worry too much about it though. Nothing was going to happen between us. Absolutely nothing.
"No problem at all." He shrugged. He had insisted on carrying my duffel along with his, so he had to switch everything to one hand to unlock the door.
Finally, he pushed the door open and stepped in.
"Damn," I heard him mutter under his breath.
Confused, I stepped in behind him and came to a halt. The room was neatly decorated and looked cozy. But that wasn't the problem. The problem was the tiny bed situated at the center of it.
The bed looked like it wouldn't even fit the gigantic man properly talk more of the two of us.
"Where's the rest of the bed? Tell me this is a prank or something," hysterical laughter bubbled up inside me.
"It'd better be."
"There's no way we're going to both fit." It was as if the universe was making a joke on my behalf. A very unfunny joke. "Maybe I can sleep on the floor or_"
"No way." He insisted, "You'll catch a cold and die. I'm not letting you sleep on the floor. Look, why don't you go take that hot shower and freshen up while I call downstairs and try to fix this."
"Okay," I nodded. Grabbing my bag, I hurried into the bathroom.
Just then, my phone started to buzz, and i pulled it out of my jacket with one hand while shrugging off my wet clothes. "Hello?"
"Scarlett, are you alright?" Jen asked, "Did you get a place to stay for the night?"
"Ugh, it's complicated," I sighed.
"More complicated than your ex being into kinky shit?" She giggled.
One corner of my mouth quirked up in a smile, "Shut up." I said playfully, "I just met the most gorgeous man on the planet."
"Oh my God! Tell me everything. And tell me you made a move." She squealed.
"He made a move," I whispered, turning on the shower, "He came up to me and we started flirting and then my card got declined and he was going to pay for my room."
"But? Please tell me you declined and the both of you ended up having hot, steamy sex in his bed."
My mind went to the tiny bed out in the room and I snorted. "I wish. Turns out that there's no spare room in the motel. I'm in his bathroom right now, but only because he so kindly offered me a side of his bed. A bed, that can only fit the both of us if we sandwich."
"Oh my freaking God! You lucky bitch." She sighed dreamily, "Why does stuff like that never happen to me? Ughhh."
I laughed, "I have no_" I trailed off as something crawled over my feet. I stopped breathing, my eyes moving down slowly, slowly and finally they took in the beast staring up at me from the floor.
"Ahhhhh!" I let out a blood curdling cry, phone slipping from my hand and falling to the floor. "Somebody help! Help me!" I cried, jumping away from the demon with the glowy eyes.
Suddenly, the bathroom door flew open and the blue eyed man came charging in, looking even larger and more intimidating, "What's going on?"
"There's a demon in the bathroom!" I pointed at where the thing sat, unfazed by my terror.
The man blinked at me, then down at the beast, then shook his head, "You mean, the cat?"
My jaw dropped open, "That thing is not a cat." I was a dog person, but I knew what cats looked like. They had hair, whiskers and pointy ears. The thing in the bathroom was hairless, ugly and weird.
The large man bent and picked it up and to my surprise, the beast curled up in his arms and let out a soft moew.
"It's just a cat, sweetheart," he stared at me with amusement.
Heat rose up my face at the realization that I'd just gone crazy over a little cat. And then another realisation hit. That I was stark naked in front of him.
His eyes dropped down, taking me in leisurely. Everywhere his gaze touched felt like I was burning. Goosebumps prickled over my skin and I shivered. My senses came rushing back when he took a step forward.
I grabbed a towel off the rack, "Get out! Get the fuck out!"
He raised one hand in surrender, the other holding the cat and slipped out of the bathroom. I turned to the mirror wide eyed, complexion flushed.
"What the fuck." I whispered under my breath, wondering how I was going to go out there and face him. I just wanted to crawl into the bathtub and live there in shame.
Scarlett "Hello?" I asked softly as I stepped out of the bathroom half an hour later, "Are you awake?" "Yeah," the man said from the bed. A second later, the bedside light came on, washing the room in a soft glow, "Apparently nothing can be done about the tiny bed tonight. I had had a feeling that that would be the case. The man rolled over a little bit, offering me some space, "Go to sleep. It's just for a few hours." Staring at the tiny space warily, I crossed over to the bed and joined him. One side of my body was completely pressed against his, and I could feel the warmth of his body seeping into me. "You're freezing." He pointed out. I let out a huff, "I wasted too much time trying to resurrect my broken phone and forgot that the shower was running. By the time I got in, the hot water had run out." "Ouch." He winced."Yeah. Today sucks." I sighed, "no, in fact, this whole month has sucked so bad." "Wanna tell me about it?" He asked softly. When I turned my head to the si
Scarlett"I hope you're not still mad that I didn't tell you my brother is Jett Heathrow," Jen said over the phone two days later. "Of course not," I said while clicking away on my laptop."It's just that after years of seeing girls and guys too befriend me just so they could get to him, hiding it became instinctive," she chuckled dryly, "And he's been going by my mum's last name ever since, so it was easy to not connect the dots." And also the fact that Jett Heathrow was six feet five with solid muscle, while she was five feet and a hundred and twenty pounds soaking wet. The truth is that I didn't care that her brother was a superstar football player who made my entire year salary in like two weeks. She didn't owe me her family history or anything. My major concern was that I now knew what her brother sounded like when he came, and that was...a problem. I'd done my best to avoid Jett throughout the weekend at her parents' house and had managed to get away with it and run back to
Scarlett"Who the fuck are you?" Paul sneered, staggering to his feet. Jett took a step toward him and my coward ex scrambled backward, all his earlier bravado suddenly gone. Honestly, he'd have been stupid to try to go up against a man like Jett, who was way bigger and looked every inch a viking. "You have three seconds to get out of here," Jett said in a cold voice. Paul glanced over his shoulder at me, "Seriously? These are the kind of assholes you surround yourself with now?" A moment later, recognition filled his face, "Wait a minute, aren't you Jett Heathrow? The football_"The taller man had had enough. He reached forward, grasped my ex by the collar and tossed him out the door before banging it shut on his stunned face. I was at a loss of words. How had he found me here? "What the hell are you doing here? I'm sorry, but you have to leave. I have an appointment and I can't deal with whatever this is right now," I snapped, "I had no idea who you were, okay? Scarlett"You can't drive in this storm, Scar. You're going to get yourself killed." My best friend hissed at me through the phone. "Trust me, I know that." I replied, pulling over in front of the motel. It was the first one I had come across in miles, and I was relieved that I didn't have to keep driving. I'd almost fallen into a ditch earlier, "I just found a motel. I'll call you when I get settled." "Okay, keep me updated." She said before hanging up. Jen and I had met last year at my ex fiance's office party and since then we had been inseparable. I don't know what I'd have done if she hadn't been there after I'd found out Paul was a lying, cheating snake two weeks ago. I'd moved in with her and she had kept me distracted. Which was how I found myself stuck in the storm on my way to her parents' house for their anniversary.
