RYAN'S POV
I sighed as I stood up from the floor and stared after her retreating figure. I almost couldn't believe I had knelt down to beg her to be my substitute. Well, considering what I already found out about her, it would be crazy of me to think she would easily accept this deal. A few moments after she was gone, I walked out of the private cafe and into the hallway that led to my office. Several employees greeted me as I walked past and some made comments as well. "Mr. Rivers, congratulations on announcing your marriage with Ms. Richardson." "Yes. We your employees always assumed you were married but we never knew who your wife was. It is amazing that you have allowed the public know about her now." "You guys look good together." "Of course. Anita Richardson is a beautiful and top model. She fits perfectly with Mr. Rivers' image." "Thank you everyone." I said, faking a smile at them. "This doesn't mean we should slack off our respective duties, alright?" "Yes, Sir." "Of course, Mr. Rivers. The company must thrive regardless and this is even a better opportunity to expand more." "Sure. The PR team has been getting a lot of calls since the reveal of your relationship with Anita Richardson. Many reporters want to have an interview with you both." A lady excitedly said and I paused on my strides. "Some are pleading for them to have an exclusive interview with you." Another female employee said with a giggle. "Everyone, listen up." I said and they all gathered around to hear me, staring quietly at me. "For now, inform the reporters that we would have no interviews. They should understand that this is our private life and we would want to keep it as that, for now. Alright?" "Yes, Mr. Rivers." "Yes, Sir." They chorused and I nodded. "Our focus must remain on our artists and stars. We must continue striving for the best for them without any second's distraction. Okay?" "Certainly, Sir." They answered again. I nodded and walked into my office, sighing as the door closed afterwards. "Oh my! You must feel super stressed right now." A familiar voice said and I almost jumped. My office chair swiveled around to reveal none other than, Milton, my friend. "Gosh! You have no idea." I sighed again and went on to collapse into a couch, dropping my jacket on the armrest. "My, my," He stood up from the swivel chair and came to sit with me on the opposite couch. I narrowed my eyes at him. "You, when did you get here?" "Not quite long ago. I was informed you were having an important meeting with someone. My guess..." He raised his gaze to meet mine. "Anita Richardson, right? Did you ask her to be a substitute wife for you?" He continued. "Man," I sighed. "You did." He chuckled. "And my guess is that you got rejected." I nodded as a response, burying my face in my palms. "So, who told you to cause another uproar by tagging her as your wife, when it's clear to you both she wasn't? What were you thinking?" He scolded. "Well, I decided to make good use of the opportunity. Afterall, I was involved in her scandal and partially responsible as well. If I hadn't gotten somewhat intimate with her by accident, this wouldn't have happened." "You're right." He nodded. I continued. "Besides, her management reached out to me first to help resolve her scandal by getting her a temporal deal with Opulence. However, I decided to save her in my own way." He raised a brow at me. "You're finally considering getting a substitute." He stated in a way that I knew it wasn't a question but a fact. "That's fine. But why does it have to be her?" Milton questioned. I leaned back on the couch and shrugged. "I don't really know. There's just something about her that makes me want to save her." "Huh?" His jaw dropped as he stared at me like I had gone crazy. "You won't understand. But I keep feeling that way." I said and stared into space. "If I need to have a substitute to replace Yun, then no one else seems more suitable for the role than, Anita Richardson." Milton scoffed. "You've lost your mind." He said in disbelief but I wouldn't blame him. "Just few days ago, you were crying over Yun. But now, you seemed to be different. What went wrong within you? Don't you want Yun back? Don't you miss her again?" "Obviously I do miss Yun. She's the love of my life. If it was possible to get her to return to me then that would be awesome. But as it stands, it's clear that she wouldn't. And I can't hold back from being married again - even if it's not real this time. At least for some months, and you of all people know the reason why." Milton sighed and shook his head. "Of course, I do. But only you understand why you want it to be Anita." He shrugged. "Well, let's just hope she comes around." "I believe she would." I said, my lips curving in a smirk just as my phone beeped. I retrieved it from my pants pocket and stared at the notifications on the screen. I had two text messages. *Ryan, don't forget to come for the family dinner.* *Mr. Rivers, your kids won't stop crying for their mom and eat.* I mentally ignored the first one from Kaia, my cousin. However, my eyelids twitched at the sight of the second one. "I have to go," I said to Milton as I hurriedly grabbed my jacket from the couch's armrest.ANITA'S POV "So, you turned down his offer." Kristen said as she lowered the steamy pot of ramen she had just made on my dining table. "Yeah, I did." I sighed and packed my hair up in a bun, pulling out a chair afterwards and sitting down as she began to serve mine from the pot. "Don't you also think it was ridiculous of him to request that?" I asked. "It really was," she pushed a strand of her short black hair from her face and slurped ramen into her mouth from her own bowl. Five years ago, when I returned to New York City, Kristen had found me, got me signed with her agency; Starlight Entertainment, and turned me into the famous, successful model I was today. Over the years, we had bonded well. I became fond of her and she of me. And our relationship exceeded that of just a manager and an artist, into something sort of a friendship and sisterhood alliance. There was nothing about me she wasn't aware of. "Right?" I said between mouthful and she nodded. "Of cours
ANITA'S POV It was late at night already as I tried to sneak a peak at the intercom to see if the reporters were still out front. They had camped at the entrance of my apartment all day. By now, it's possible that they would be tired and retired for the day at least. It was already past 10pm now. Someone had rang the doorbell outside so I went to take a look, hoping it wasn't the reporters again. I mean, they had been relentless in ringing my doorbell all day. I couldn't even sleep or do anything without the sound of the doorbell interrupting me. At a point, I had to put on my soundproof earphones while I stuffed my face with ramen all day and watched some movies as well. However, I haven't heard anything from Opulence Entertainment all day. At least, unlike I had assumed, Ryan wasn't using this to pester me to become a substitute wife for him. Still, I couldn't help but wonder, how could he have been quiet all day? I don't have his contact but he definitely knew
RYAN'S POV I adjusted my necktie as I stared back at my reflection in the full length mirror in my room. Thoughts of the media's speculations about me and Anita Richardson occupied my mind. It was easy for me to keep the reporters off my home because of my connections but how about her? She was only a famous model and was bound to face the heat of my decision some days back. If nothing was done, I don't think she would be able to hold up anymore. I paused on my attempt at buttoning my suit jacket, as a thought flashed through my mind. I wondered where she was staying at the moment but I quickly brushed off the thought as I knew her management would sort out the issue for her.But for how long? I sighed and buttoned up. Maybe I should just hold a press conference and tell the media everything. A strange chill ran down my spine at the thought and I stepped away from the mirror and walked to my bedside drawer to get my phone. "Doing that would be even more disastro
RYAN'S POV And so, I had my driver take us back to my company in my car. On the way, news report of Anita and myself had already circulated on the internet again. However, it was a different speculation and caption this time. *NEWS FLASH: LATEST CELEBRITY COUPLE ON A DATE AT A PRIVATE MUSEUM.* *The married couple, top model 'Anita Richardson' and 'Ryan Rivers' CEO of the famous Opulence Entertainment, were seen and captured looking all 'loved up' on a date at RR LARIA MUSEUM in city center.* Anita chuckled as I served her a cup of coffee latte which she received with appreciation. "Have you seen this?" She indicated towards her phone's screen at the trending news of us. I loosened the firmness of my tie and sat down on the couch opposite her. "Isn't this what you wanted when you had us meet in public?" I said lightheartedly. She stared at me from beneath her long lashes and smiled. "Still, whoever shot this photos didn't do proper justice to me. Your angle lo
ANITA’S POV My lips trembled at his words and my knees shook slightly beneath me, not minding the fact that I had two kids I was just meeting for the first time, called me 'Mama' with their little arms firmly wrapped around my legs in their embrace. They were quite identical and super adorable, with striking resemblance to their father, the boy most especially. Ryan's words just now kept reverberating in my head and my whole world seemed to have tumbled apart. The fact that I was a divorcée was a secret to all who knew me since I became Anita Richardson, even my agency wasn't aware of this; aside from Kristen, of course. This part of me, this dark past of mine was one that wasn't supposed to be ever heard of. But this man here... I felt the tears from my bewilderment and horror slowly cloud my vision. H-how did he find out about my past? How much of it does he already know? My eyes searched his piercing blue ones that were trained against mine. How great wou
RYAN'S POV I had just finished showing Anita around the villa and our last stop was at the in-house gym. "Oh, wow! This is gonna be my favorite place in your Villa. Wait, you even have a treadmill? Damn! This is perfect!" She exclaimed excitedly the moment we had walked in. She had talked about random things without confronting me about the fact that I have children and hadn't thought to mention it to her. I could sense her fear and could understand why she seemed to be avoiding questioning me even though she must have a ton of questions. She perhaps don't want to talk about her past. I silently observed her, as she moved from one gym equipment to another. I had noticed how emotional she got when Zach and Zara had embraced her, several minutes ago. But I had no plans to say anything regarding that. "Why aren't you asking any questions? I know you might have some." I said as I walked up to her. Anita paused on her attempts at lifting a dumbbell and stared at me
ANITA'S POVRyan's Ex-wife? I stared at the approaching lady closely, and then sighed mentally at the sight of her familiar face. Tall, slender figure, long platinum dyed hair and a few stripes of pink. Damn! She changes her hair way too often. The last time I saw her was at Olive's bridal shower, and her hair had been dyed purple. In the entertainment industry, everyone knew we never saw eye to eye. And it was rumoured several times that we're rivals and always competed against each other. Kaia. She's the star model of Opulence Entertainment. And I am Starlight Entertainment's star model as well. What's Kaia Hunter's relationship with Ryan Rivers? Well, everyone knew they had a great relationship together and were seen at almost all gatherings. At one time, it was rumored that the star model and the CEO were in a relationship but the news had immediately died down as it came. Why? Because a new rumor had showed up. Kaia Hunter was Ryan's cousin. Watc
RYAN'S POV I was seething with rage internally as I tried to see Kaia off. "Ryan you have to reconsider your decision." She reached out a hand and stopped me by the arm the moment we arrived at the in-house lobby at the ground floor. Through the large top to bottom glass windows, it was easy to stare outside and clearly see the activities going on in the large, well structured yard. I inhaled sharply and she sighed softly before she continued. "You know, you can't avoid it forever. Not when the Rivers' bloodline runs through your veins." "I thought I already made my decision clear enough, Kaia. You should know me by now. I'm not welcomed there, so why should I bother?" I said through gritted teeth and clenched fists. If not because it's Kaia, my only dearest cousin and only real family to me now, as far as I'm concerned _ my kids aside of course_ I would have long thrown her out of my house. "Of course, I know all of that. But you have to endure this much for the sa
