After having a short talk and laugh with Jared about her day, they said their goodnights and Josey went inside. Suddenly feeling tired, she decided she needed sleep to fuel her shopping trip for tomorrow.

She held in a laugh after opening their bedroom door and seeing her sister sleeping with her head laying on the desk, wide mouthed and drooling. She had a bag of snacks in one hand and a pencil in the other. Careful not to disturb her too much, Josey removed the snack bag and pencil before slowly lifting her by her shoulder and helping her over to her bed.

Emily murmured something about math then turned over as Josey covered her with the froggy printed comforter.

Going over to her own bed, Josey kicked off her slippers and snuggled under her comforter. Thoughts of the new job, the horrible new boss and Jared always popping up to help her raced through her mind before she finally slipped off to sleep.

“Jo, I’m headed out! I’ll be back late, a few of us are going to the student council party tonight to get free goodies, so I will eat there, have fun shopping, buy something nice to wear!” Josey could barely wake up to the words her sister shouted from the front door.

Yawning and rolling over, the light from Josey’s window beamed in forcefully at her face, telling her it’s time to get up. Reaching over her head and grabbing her phone, she watched it blink on to display it was already 10 in the morning, she hurried out of bed.

Having changed and waiting on the toaster to finish, she checked her bank balance on her phone. She wouldn’t be able to afford anything new, so she would just hit the second hand shops today as she calculated their monthly budget in her head really quick. Grabbing the freshly popped toast, she headed out the door.

Dressed in her fav jeans and an oversized t-shirt, she noticed Agatha walking by on the sidewalk in front of the apartments.

“Mornin Agatha! It’s Saturday, don’t tell me you’re headed to work?” She said with a mouthful of toast, noticing the older lady was in a hurry.

“Yes, dear lord, that man has me running ragged on a Saturday of all days!” Agatha said in a bustle as she stopped.

“What for? The office is closed on Saturday’s.” Josey asked her, feeling sorry for the old lady.

“Apparently, Mr. Stormway decided to upgrade the security! I can’t imagine why. We have never had a single issue since this place was built. Ridiculous if you ask me. So now here I am, having to leave my sweet ones alone for most of the day, but thank goodness for your sister, she is going to swing by later and feed them for me really quick. I don’t know when I will be done but I have to be available, so he says, to let them in and out of several apartments and the office as well.” Shaking her head and taking a deep breath as she started back to walking, Josey waved her goodbye.

Looking back at the apartments butted up next to each other, Josey thought it was odd that the new owner was taking such precautions, but shrugged it off and headed towards Cibus street.

Cibus street was located a few blocks away. It was a long strip of small outdoor vendors and shops selling all sorts of homemade goods. At the very end of the street is where the night market was usually held, selling street foods and fresh catches of the day. It sat in short running along Walker’s beach, where Josey loved to just sit and watch the waves. She wouldn’t be visiting the entire strip today though, she had too much to do.

Enjoying the warm sun beat through the cool afternoon air, Josey was in a good mood. She was almost there after stopping to help a lady that had spilt a basket of tomatoes everywhere and petting a stray or two, when her phone rang. She loved the new ringtone of a foreign artist she downloaded, the woman’s voice so melodic and enchanting.

It was Cece calling her, so Josey decided to ask her to come shopping with her.

“Hey Cece, what’s up?” Josey asked cheerfully.

“Hey, nothing much, just finished a report I’d been working on since last night, what are you up to?” Cece said sounding tired, making Josey have second thoughts on asking her to hang out.

“Oh, just headed to a few stores to shop for a new outfit..for work.” Waiting to hear Cece’s reaction, Josey held her breath.

“Huh? Work? OMG did you get the text!” Cece suddenly perked up making Josey laugh.

“Haha, yes, I sure did! I start Monday. So, since you sound more alive, do you wanna come hang out and help me? It will be second hand shopping but I promise if you survive, I’ll treat you to dinner at my place.” Josey responded sounding hopeful. She really wanted Cece’s help.

“Awe bummer, I’d really love to Jo, but I have got to get some sleep. I have book club this evening, and since it’s held only once a month, I really can’t miss..the opportunity, know what I mean?” Josey knew exactly what Cece meant. Cece was pining after a woman in her book club.

According to Cece, she was tall, willowy and just so pretty to look at. She was sure the willowy woman was her type, in that they both swung for the same fence, but only meeting once a month, Cece was slow in making a move until she was sure it was mutual.

“Okay, yea, I understand. You should just ask her out, like on a friend date. That way you can be sure. Or ask her for her number to discuss the most recent book you guys are reading. What’s it called, Wings of something or other.” Josey suggested, even though she knew Cece was not that brave, she still tried pushing her to having a semi social love life.

“Wings of Momentum, and I would but what if she doesn’t even really read it, but comes for the free food?” Cece was guilty as charged. She had originally signed up because a flyer was stuck in her door, and the large bold lettering stating free food sucked her in.

“Who cares, but it’s all up to you to make the first move. But hey, I’m here at the first place I want to check out, text me later and let me know how it goes. Get some rest and I will see you on Monday!” Josey eyed the shop as she hung up with Cece.

The shop boasted a maroon and gold sign saying ‘Second Start Sales’, its yellow tinged widows displayed used baby equipment, some dusty old shoes and a few oversized tops. Shrugging her shoulders, Josey decided to give it a try.

It only took about 3 mins of browsing for Josey to know this wasn’t the right shop to find what she was looking for. The store had massive crate like bins packed full of second hand items ranging from brown coffee stained purses to broken easter baskets. The shoes even looked as if their souls were hanging on for dear life.

Nodding at the shop’s owner who had been eyeing her since she walked in, Josey made a quick exit. Visiting stores without buying something always made her nervous, but that’s why it’s called shopping she reassure herself.

After eyeing several tables set out doors in front of shops, and the racks holding various sizes of suits, to which none would fit Josey, or were too well worn to look decent on her first day of work, Josey continued on.

There were only a handful of places to look left so determined to find something she headed into the next shop along the way. Its name boasted bright colorful green letters saying ‘Traces of the Past’, and the sub lettering in a more subdued gold read (Antiques and Clothing for the Modern Day Man).

She didn’t think it meant only men, and because there was only a glass shop door with no windows to display anything, she decided to give it a go.

“Welcome! Welcome young lady! Give me a few moments, and I will be right with you!” the old man behind the counter dressed in a white and red argyle sweater vest said as he peaked around another customer dressed in a suit. He was older, and Josey could smell cigar smoke coming from his direction.

“You’re fine, please take your time, I’m just looking.” Josey said as she eyed the back side of the customer standing at the counter. Something about him seemed familiar, but she ignored the feeling and started to look over the display cases of watches, cuff links and other ‘Men’ things that were on display.

After scanning the stale smelling shop, she realized it indeed was only for men. It held new and antique items, stacked together on shelves, all catering to the needs of men.

Figuring this place was a bust as well, she turned from the rack of men’s suits she was fingering through in hopes of finding something useful, and headed towards the door of the shop.

That’s when the customer who was being helped turned to leave and stopped, looking right at Josey. She held back surprise when she realized who it was.

“Uh..hello..Mr.Stormway.” he didn’t respond but just stared at her for a moment.

Josey hadn’t found it odd that she ran into the new landlord while she was shopping, she just assumed he must have had a business meeting in the area. Not really finding anything that would suit her taste, or that she could afford, she decided she would just head back home. Hearing her phone ring as she walked slowly in disappointment, she pulled it out to see it was Jared calling her. “Hey.” she said. “What's up Josey girl? You sound a bit down.” He asked, but Josey really didn’t want a pity party over clothes. “I’m fine, what's up with you?” She asked him. Jared rarely called her on the weekends. “I wanted to see if you wanted to have dinner with me tonight. To celebrate your new job.” Josey’s heart did a pitter patter. It wasn’t really for Jared that it her heart sped up for, it was the food. If he was buying dinner, it meant the food would be better than what she could cook at home. “Sure, absolutely! Jared had pulled up at exactly 6:30 to pick Josey up for the dinner outing. The sun was low in the sky and street lights were getting ready to kick on. Grabbing her sneakers, Josey headed out the door. She kept it casual in jeans and a hoodie. The weather was cooler in the evenings, and because she gets cold easily, she figured she wouldn’t get over heated. Jared was standing there, leaning in his car waiting when she came out. “Hey!” She said waving at him as she hopped and skipped, pulling her sneakers on. “Ready?” He asked her while opening the door to the car. “Sure am! Thanks for offering to take me to dinner.” She said as she slid into the black leather seat. He shut the door and got into the driver's side. “Uh yea, my pleasure! Hey, what's with all the security camera’s suddenly popping up around here? There’s a camera even pointed at your door step from the energy pole across the street.” Jared asked Josey curiously. “Oh that? It would be our not so lovely ne

Taking several glances at the table, Linux could only see the back of the man's head. “Not really, when they first came in, I thought he looked familiar. Why are you asking?” Linux responded, trying to look natural and cover his mouth so his words wouldn’t carry. “Thats Jared Chaser, from Rapture Investments.” He murmured. “Oh!” Linux almost yelled, slapping the table causing his fork to fly off and clink on the floor. Tarrin shook his head at his friend. Linux quickly reached out a foot and tried scooting the fork back closer. Josey looked over towards them because of the noise and Linux froze with his leg extended out from the table. looking at the ceiling. “I can’t take you anywhere.” Tarrin commented under his breath. Otherwise, how did he end up flat on his back, and snoring?” Josey replied, frustrated this was going nowhere.“He tripped, apparently knocking himself out.” Tarrin responded with a smug look as he shrugged his shoulders and unlocked his phone.Josey’s mouth dropped open. Emily also said she had leftovers from the get together and they were in the fridge. Being thankful to her sister, Josey grabbed a small plastic wrapped paper plate holding 2 chocolate cupcakes from the fridge. It was just what she needed after the evening she had. Next, they tried the front door, but it was locked. Bob and May had a high wooden privacy fence that surrounded their back yard so Tarrin decided they should try the back door. The smell of death hit his nose hard as they got to the back door, but it wasn’t human. Nodding at Tarrin’s prompt, Mara forced the door open. She coughed and pulled her tight black t-shirt over her nose. “It’s the dog.” Tarrin whispered, walking past Mara as she came out to the yard to breath. Linux dropped Josey off, and she felt a bit of relief being home. Tarrin was his usual arrogant self in the end, and she felt stupid for feeling maybe he had warmed up to her. Turning her phone off, she decided it was officially the weekend and wouldn’t answer it for anything unless it was Emily or Cece. “See how you like that. Answer your own emails!” Yelling it out as she set her phone down, Josey plopped on the couch and stared at the TV. The apartment was quiet, and the sudden lack of noise made her uncomfortable, so she decided to head over to Cibus street and check out the food markets near the water. “Three for a dollar or two pounds for three dollars!” The vendors called out, enticing passersby with their catches of the day or homemade goods. The smell of cooked fish and bread filled the air as Josey casually strolled by each colorful stall. She even ran into Mr. Huen, who gave her a tough front but treated her to free fish bites in the end. Seeing one of her favorite

Josey shrugged, “I think I already mentioned it once. He used to show up in the warehouse when my parents were working. His Father’s office was nearby at the time, so Jared would hang out with me as I waited for dad to finish for the day,” she replied finally and then said softly, “He was there the day it happened.” Tarrin knew what she was talking about but asked, “The day the fire happened?” Josey nodded and responded, “Yes, he showed up right as I was about to run in there. Damn, he hasn’t changed one bit now that I think about it.” “There is something oddly familiar about that guy, I’m telling you. It isn’t safe for him to be around her, Tarrin.” Tarrin nodded silently at both Josey's comment and the wolf’s warning. Once Mara returns, he will know more about this Mr. Hunter from Rapture investments. “Hey, that’s not funny! I get your point. Let’s focus now, please... geesh,” the wolf whined. Tarrin smiled with satisfaction that it worked. Josey was waiting anxiously for Emily to come up on stage, and Tarrin’s mind went to something else. Before the interlude ended, Tarrin leaned over and peeked through a small opening in the heavy red curtain. He could see directly where Jared and Olana sat in the reserved booth. Olana was smiling and then leaned over and whispered something to Jared, and he nodded and whispered back. Did they really know each other? Were they responsible for Josey getting stuck on the roof if that’s the case? Both of them had been at the building that day, and Jared’s coat looked identical to the one in the CCTV footage. He made a note to mention it to Mara when the recital was over. If those two were friends, then they may be working together. But for what purpose? Was Jared one of the hunters or related to the ones that killed his father? “You’re ful

Tarrin and Josey were ushered to the VIP seating, where they could see the concert hall’s stage. It was a perk of Tarrin’s company funding the upgrades of the hall and supporting the students. “I’m impressed. Who knew I would end up inside someone with such pull,” the wolf commented in Tarrin’s head. Grinning in a cocky manner, Tarrin sat next to Josey, secretly glancing at her. “Wow, I can’t believe the number of people here for the recitals. I bet Emily’s nervous,” Josey said, looking over the seated crowd below. Tarrin nodded, “The recital is a good start for many students planning their musical future. Scouts and certain company exec’s come looking for a promising start to represent.” “Speaking of company executives, do you smell that? I think it’s, damn, we have company,” the wolf whispered in Tarrin’s mind. Tarrin rolled his eyes and looked around. He didn’t know what he was smelling, but then the familiar cologne of Jared Hunter hit his nose before he spotted the CEO

Tarrin watched as Josey hesitated, looking at the many dishes in front of her. “Look, if you want to apologize for yesterday, apology accepted. You don’t have to go through all this for me. I’m just your employee,” she said, looking at him confused and glancing at the tulip bouquet on the table’s edge. Tarrin cleared his throat, “I... I know. This isn’t an apology. I’m in the public eye, so having you dressed properly is strictly for my benefit. Eating is just a necessity, and I was craving the food here, which you also benefit from. I didn’t want you, I mean us, going and sitting through the recital with our stomachs growling.” Tarrin glanced at her, trying to read her response, but she simply nodded and gently grabbed a bite of food. In the background, the sound of the violin played in tune with the waterfall while they ate in peace. Now and then, Tarrin caught himself stealing glances at Josey. He was still enamored by how beautiful she looked. “Say something. You’re blowing

The brand store was huge, and being high-end, Tarrin and Josey were immediately greeted. “Hello!
