Alex stretched her neck as per her normal routine. Fifteen hours this time. Not really a record. She was feeling a little more lethargic than usual. She tapped the lights on and hit it three times in quick succession to get it to the dimmest. The lights went from dimmest to brightest. Alex awoke in her bed. Her whole body was sore. She couldn't even move her fingers. The adventure from the last few days hit her hard and she sobbed. It felt almost like a dream. Alex woke in her bed. Her body hurt more than the last time she had woken up. She didn't know how long it had been this time. The darkness through the curtains told her it was nighttime in the sphere. She tapped her fingers on the table. The lights started dimly first. Pseudo-daylight streamed through the windows. Alex covered her eyes and rolled over onto something fluffy, hard, and soft all at the same time. Jack sat in Ellie's rolling chair. He swung it back and forth while he waited. The dry hum of the computers and other electronics droned on, encouraging him to nod off.
