The ocean sparkled against the cloudy sunlit sky on their left. The wind kicked up the dust and sent it tumbling against the black obelisks littering the desert. Alex stretched her neck as per her normal routine. Fifteen hours this time. Not really a record. She was feeling a little more lethargic than usual. She tapped the lights on and hit it three times in quick succession to get it to the dimmest. The lights went from dimmest to brightest. She shook her head and squinted against the light, smacking the table again causing the lights to go back off. Stupid automatic updates, always changing the way things worked. Alex awoke in her bed. Her whole body was sore. She couldn't even move her fingers. The adventure from the last few days hit her hard and she sobbed. It felt almost like a dream. Alex woke in her bed. Her body hurt more than the last time she had woken up. She didn't know how long it had been this time.
