Avery’s POV

As the trees enveloped us again in the forest, the air wrapped cooler around us.

The heat from our previous disagreement was still in my chest making my heart ache, not that I would dare say so. Because Jameson was stomping beside me with stiff limbs and shoulders, as if each step he took was a protest at the uncomfortable ceasefire we had just negotiated.

I saw the slightest flash of irritation on his face when I glanced at him out of the corner of my eye without turning fully to him, but it was gone as quickly as it had sprung up. Normally, he was so stoic, so detached. It annoyed me.

I bit the insides of my cheeks slowly so as to not send my mind back toward the harsh words we had exchanged just moments before.

I held tightly to the strap of my backpack as we walked further into the woods.

The trees on either side of the narrow route stood as though the sentinels, their gnarled limbs reaching out as if to snare us.

My body shivered as the fragrance of decayed foliag

Avery’s POVThe morning showed through the thick cover of the canopy, like the sun itself feared to shine into this area of the woods. I held tightly onto the map, brittle edges flaking off with every contact. Jameson strode a few steps ahead, his gaze roving over the ground with calculated precision.“This map is useless unless we know where we are,” I muttered, piercing the tense silence between us.Jameson didn’t look back, but his shoulders went stiff. “Then why are you clinging to it so much?”His tone was terse, and his patience was clearly fraying. I seethed behind the back of his head, fighting the impulse to retaliate. He always did that — shut people out, deflect, pretend he had it all under control. But the reality was apparent in his rigid posture and the keen edge in his voice. He was just as lost as I was. With every step the woods around us thickened. The trees towered like giants with darkened, scarred bark. Fog started to creep along the floor of the woods, wrapping a

Avery’s POVThe low menacing growl echoed through the quiet forest; It exposed its teeth like an unseen wind, freezing me to the bone. My breath seized in my throat, and I clutched the pack's strap so tightly that I thought it would break.“Jameson,” I whispered, the words barely audible above the loud pounding of my heart. He turned quickly, already gripping his knife handle. His expression changed from annoyance to sharp alertness, all in an instant. "Don't move," he ordered. His voice was absolute."But what's—" I tried to talk.“Shh, I’ll tell you later,” he added. His eyes glanced fiercely into the looming shadows ahead as if looking for some enemy in them. The growling reappeared, louder this time, and the forest shook. A boar emerged, huge and bristling, its tusks gleaming like ivory blades.I swallowed hard, tasting the lead at the back of my mouth.“We are going to back away,” Jameson said softly, in a voice that held both firmness and calm. "Take your time and keep your eyes

Avery’s POVAs the group walked along through the thick forest, the air felt strange. I looked straight ahead, pretending not to notice the frequent sidelong glances Jameson was throwing in my direction. My hands formed into fists at my sides. The last thing I needed was him coming and trying to establish some sort of dominance here. The others around us were whispering among themselves. It wasn’t difficult to feel the rising discomfort because the shadows felt like they were growing longer by the minute. Every rustle of leaves, every whisper of the wind, felt like hidden warning signs in this unnatural-feeling living forest.Amelia fell in step beside me, her face white and drawn. “Avery,” she said, leaning even closer, “I don’t like this. There’s something…off about this place.”I nodded, speaking below my regular level. “Stay close to me. Trust no one, least of all those who appear too self-assured.”In front of us, some of the more aggressive students, led by Sheila, barked orders

Avery’s POVThe voice froze my blood. Dripping with malice, it cleaved its way through the chaos like a knife. “Did you think you could just step in and take what belongs to the cursed?I turned toward the source of the voice, my throat choking on air. All I could see was a figure wrapped in shadow, their height, and their stance, crushing and monstrous. They were wrapped around us, and the air grew colder. I could feel my hands trembling.Jameson yanked me behind him, and although the quiver I heard in his voice showed his humanity, it embodied the image of a protective man. “Who are you?” he asked, although his hand on my arm showed that he was nervous, too.The figure laughed, a sound so hollow and bitter it nearly broke my chest. “It doesn’t matter who I am. What you’ve disturbed is what matters. What you’ve unleashed.”Before Jameson or I could respond, the ground beneath us popped to life again. A tremendous fracture appeared in the soil, and the faint, haunting reflection I had

Avery’s POVLong after the words had left the forest, the whisper buzzed in my head, rattling against the walls of my skull. “You cannot escape”.Jameson gripped my hand a little tighter as we walked back toward the forest trail. His silence weighed heavy, his thoughts a storm I could not see.For a while, I welcomed the silence. Bits of images I couldn’t make sense flashed in my head—images of the glowing symbols, of the twisted creature, of the figure cloaked in shadow. They were like shards of a nightmare puzzle, missing pieces, lying more disorganised than usual. But one thing was sure, the curse was not some joke. It was alive and it had its sights on us.“Do you think we’re safe now?” The silence was broken by Jameson’s voice.I looked at him, his profile sharp against the faint moonlight. He didn’t meet my eyes, his gaze straight ahead, but the tension of his jaw betrayed him.“I don’t know,” I admitted. “But I don’t believe that it is over.”He sighed heavily and raked his hai

Avery’s POVI grabbed my satchel strap tighter, gravel and sticks crashing under the soles of my boots as Jameson walked in front of us. The depth in his step matched the tension that had been building since the morning. We were just out of supplies. Earlier, Amelia had mentioned in a polite whisper that our water supply had been reduced to just one flask, and the couple of strips of dried meat we had left could not last another day. I looked back at her — Amelia's usually calm attitude was breaking down, and her gaze shifted to Flair, who walked in her shadow.Flair, usually the jokester of the bunch, had an uncharacteristic seriousness to his face. He glanced into the shadows of the trees, as if he could feel something we couldn’t.“What’s the long face, Flair?” Jameson called out, the tone tinged with challenge.Flair shrugged but remained silent. Jameson halted, turning to him with a brow arched. “If you have something to say, now is the time.”I put a hand on Jameson’s arm before

(Sharing a tent)Avery's POV My heart suddenly began to face rapidly. I didn't know exactly was wrong but the air around me was strange.Suddenly, Jameson took my hand and started to run, "Stop! I don't want us to get lost," I said but he chose not to listen because he kept on dragging me, making me follow him."Do you want to get lost alone? Besides, I know the way around here," Jameson said but I shook my head and sighed. After running a long distance, he finally stopped causing me to stop running. I tried to catch my breath, taking my hand up to my chest while breathing rapidly."Why are you breathing like that? We just ran a little," Jameson said. I gritted my teeth in anger before dragging my hand away from him in anger, "You're unbelievable! Oh my God. Why am I even surprised?" I said and took my hand up to my hair."You're overreacting! What is your matter?" Jameson asked and arched his brows, wondering what was wrong with me while I was wondering what was wrong with him."W

Avery's POV "Apparently, it's not looking like we have a choice," Jameson said. I shook my head continuously before saying,"I'll rather sleep out here in the cold than to sleep with you in that tent," I said causing Jameson to chuckle softly before saying,"Suit yourself,"He got into the tent, acting so annoying. I was feeling so much cold and I started to hear some rumbling in the bushes. They was no way I could prefer this than laying in the tent with him. Without thinking about it for the second time, I rushed into the tent and Jameson arched his brows, asking,"What are you doing in here?""What do you mean? Isn't this my tent?" I asked."Yeah but you said that you'll rather sleep outside your tent them sleep in it with me," Jameson said with a sly smile on his face. I knew what he was trying to do after seeing the sly smile on his face and I was in no mood for argument with him."Okay then, well... I can't stay outside, I was just overreacting," I said and immediately lay down

  • FATED REJECTION: BOUNDED BY LOVE, DIVIDED BY FATE   Chapter 74

Avery’s POVAs the night air brushed against my skin, a chill crept up my spine. Step after agonizing step, another wave of pain coursed through my body as I felt Noah's arm draped around my shoulder, taking most of my weight while we ambled through the darkness behind the hangar. The sirens were getting closer. With a pistol in hand, Dominic escorted us, searching in all directions for any remaining threats. Raven was breaking through on my line.“Okay, listen up! The cops are coming in fast. I don’t know who ratted us out, but we're out of time.”“Shit! Is there an exit?” Noah asked.Raven took a second. “Not one you’ll like.”“We don’t like it already,” I muttered, barely able to keep my eyes open. “Just tell us.”Raven sighed. “There’s a utility tunnel running under the hangar. Emergency access for maintenance crews. If you can get inside, it leads out past the perimeter.”Dominic was walking, scanning the nearby walls. “Where’s the entrance?”“Fifteen feet to your left. A metal

Avery’s POVThe gunshot ripped through the night.Pain exploded through my shoulder, knocking me backward. The ground came up fast, the cold concrete jarring against my spine. My vision blurred, and for a second, all I could hear was the ringing in my ears.Someone was shouting my name.I tried to move, but fire licked up my arm, spreading through my entire body. My breath came in short, shallow gasps as I pressed my hand to the wound. Warm, sticky blood seeped between my fingers.Lisa stood over me, gun still raised, a smirk playing at her lips.“Did you really think this would end any other way?” she mused, tilting her head.I forced my body to move, my fingers curling toward the gun I had dropped, but Lisa stepped forward and kicked it away.“I have to admit,” she continued, crouching down beside me. “You were persistent. Annoying, but persistent.” She reached out, brushing a strand of hair from my face like she actually cared. “That’s why I liked you, Avery. You had fight.”I clen

Avery’s POVApparently, morning has come too early. The city seems to be alive outside the sab house, but inside it is totally quiet. Surreal.Under twelve hours to go before we make our move. The talk was reserved as we gathered around the table, and the blueprint of the airstrip still sprawled from yesterday night. Raven was already typing at her end, her fingertips moving rapidly over the keypad. Noah sat next to her, his arms crossed, his face a deep frowning hiss. Dominic leaned against the wall, taking gulps at his black coffee as though that were all keeping him standing.I could feel that tension hung in the air. The weight of the actions to be taken loomed over us.Noah broke the silence. “We need to go over everything one last time.”Dominic nodded, setting his mug down. “All right. This is it. Once we're in, there's no turning back.”Raven turned her screen toward us. "I managed to hack into the airstrip's security system. I can loop the cameras for about three minutes-enou

Avery’s POVThe air in the SUV was thick with exhaustion and adrenaline. No one spoke as we sped down the highway, the city lights growing brighter in the distance. Every mile that passed felt like a countdown to something bigger, something inevitable.Lisa was still ahead of us.She had let us go because she knew we'd come back. And she was ready.I glanced at Noah. He was still pale, his head leaned against the window, but his breathing was steadier. The pain must have been unbearable, but he hadn’t complained once.“You good?” I asked quietly. His eyes flicked open, and for a second, they softened. “I’ve been worse.”That was a lie, but I let it slide.Raven was still typing on her laptop, her face illuminated by the glow of the screen. Dominic kept his eyes on the road, his grip on the wheel tight. Finally, Raven exhaled sharply. “Alright. I’ve got a lead.”Dominic glanced at her in the rearview mirror. “Talk.”She turned the laptop so we could see. “Lisa’s scheduled to meet at a

Avery’s POVThe hallways blurred around me, every breath burning in my chest. Noah's weight dragged against my shoulder, but I held him up, forcing us forward as fast as possible.Behind us, alarms blared, a violent, grating noise that made every step feel like a countdown to disaster.Lisa let us leave. That thought refused to leave my head. She had every opportunity to stop us—she could have had her men block every door, trap us in that office, make sure we never made it past the underground corridors. But she didn’t.Which meant one thing. She was playing a longer game. And we were still inside it.“Faster!” Raven hissed, keeping ahead of us, her stolen gun clutched tightly in her hand. “They’ll regroup and block the exits any second now!”Noah grunted, his arm tightening around my shoulder. His breaths were shallow, his body heavy. I glanced at him—his jaw was clenched, his face tight with pain, but his eyes were sharp. He was still with me.That had to be enough. We reached a spl

Avery’s POVRaven’s hands were steady as she locked the door behind us, but her eyes were sharp with urgency. We had minutes—maybe seconds—before someone noticed I was gone.“We have to move fast,” she whispered. “Lisa’s guards are all over this place. If we get caught before we reach Noah, we’re screwed.”I nodded, my pulse hammering. “Where is he?”Raven glanced down the hall. “They took him to a different wing. I don’t know exactly where, but I saw them dragging him that way.” She pointed toward a dimly lit corridor. “We go in quiet. Take out anyone in our way.”I flexed my fingers. “Fine by me.”Raven smirked. “That’s what I was hoping you’d say.”We moved quickly, staying close to the shadows. The underground halls were eerily quiet, the concrete walls swallowing sound. My heart pounded harder with every step.Noah was here. And he was hurt.I clenched my fists to keep my emotions in check. Getting reckless wouldn’t help him. Focus. Stay sharp.Footsteps echoed up ahead. A guard.

  • FATED REJECTION: BOUNDED BY LOVE, DIVIDED BY FATE   Chapter 68

Avery’s POVThe cold from the concrete walls seeped into my skin as I sat on the floor of my cell, my wrists still raw from the struggle against the restraints. The room was small—barely enough space to pace. The only light came from a single flickering bulb hanging from the ceiling. They had taken everything. My weapons, my phone, even the small knife I’d hidden in my boot. But the worst part?I had no idea where the others were.I had heard Dominic fighting when they dragged us down here, but that had faded into silence. Noah was taken in the opposite direction, and Raven—she had disappeared before I could even process what was happening.I pulled my knees to my chest, forcing myself to breathe. Panicking wouldn’t help. I needed a way out.I scanned the room. The walls were solid. No vents. The door was thick metal with a reinforced lock. But locks could be picked. And Lisa had made a mistake—she thought we were helpless. She thought wrong.Footsteps echoed down the hall, stopping j

Avery’s POVThe alarms shattered the silence like a gunshot. Red warning lights flared to life, painting the marble halls in streaks of crimson. My pulse skyrocketed as Raven and I froze in place, our eyes meeting in a brief moment of panic."Shit," Raven hissed. "They know we're here."We had seconds—seconds before the guards outside the meeting room came storming in. My instincts screamed at me to run, but we couldn’t—not yet.Raven recovered first, snapping her laptop shut and shoving it into the supply cart. "We need to move. Now."The double doors ahead burst open. Two guards stormed into the hallway, guns drawn, their eyes scanning for the threat. I forced myself to stay still, gripping the supply cart’s handle as if it would ground me. We still looked like workers. Maybe—just maybe—they wouldn't suspect us.No such luck."You!" One of them pointed at me. "Hands where I can see them."Raven didn’t hesitate. In one smooth motion, she flipped the cart over, sending supplies crashi

The tension in the cabin was thick enough to choke on. No one had slept. No one had even tried. The plan was in motion, but the weight of what we were about to do sat heavy on all of us.Lisa had built an empire on manipulation, control, and fear. If we miscalculated even once, she’d slip through our fingers again—and this time, we wouldn’t get another chance.Raven was the first to break the silence. “Alright, let’s run through this one more time.”She tapped on her laptop, pulling up a satellite image of the estate Lisa was meeting at. “Security is tight—motion sensors, cameras, at least a dozen armed guards patrolling the perimeter. Getting in unnoticed won’t be easy.”Dominic leaned over the table, scanning the blueprint. “We won’t have to sneak in if we give them a reason to open the gates.”Noah’s eyes flicked up. “You have an idea?”Dominic nodded. “A delivery truck. The estate gets shipments daily—food, supplies, the usual. If we can intercept one, we’ll have an excuse to get
