Celine’s pov.

I sat on the terrace, cradling a warm cup of tea between my hands, letting the morning breeze caress my skin. The rich aroma of herbs curled in the air, filling my lungs as I took a slow sip, savoring the warmth that spread through me. The soft chirping of birds and the distant rustling of leaves made for a peaceful morning, one I wished could last forever. For a moment, I let myself believe it would.

The events of last night had completely escaped my mind. Perhaps it was exhaustion or the way I had trained myself to forget things that only weighed me down. Either way, I didn’t want to think about Lucien’s cold silence, the terrifying moment when he had almost hit me, or the Alpha King’s unsettling presence. I didn’t want to think at all.

The sky stretched endlessly, soft clouds drifting lazily over the treetops. This was what I longed for—peace, simplicity, a life where I wasn’t constantly questioning my worth. But peace never lasted.

Lucien’s footsteps broke through the silence, his presence a sharp contrast to the stillness of the morning. I turned slightly, watching as he stepped onto the terrace.

“You’re up early,” he said. His voice was calm, too calm.

I nodded, taking another sip of tea. “The morning is beautiful.” I replied.

He hummed, his gaze drifting to the garden before returning to me. “We need to talk.”

Something in his tone made my fingers tighten around the cup. “About what?” I asked calmly.

Lucien didn’t sit. He remained standing, his posture tense, as if he was bracing himself for something. “I’ve decided to appoint you as the ambassador between Emerald Forest and Bloodfang.”

I nearly choked. “What?!”

He finally looked at me, his eyes cool and calculating. “You’ll be responsible for fostering relations between both packs.” He continued.

I stared at him, waiting for the punchline. “You told me I didn’t need to work,” I said slowly, reminding him of the argument we had when we first got married. He had insisted that my role was to be his wife, to focus on preparing to be Luna—not to involve myself in work or politics.

“That was before.” He replied.

Before what? I set my cup down carefully, trying to keep my voice steady. “What changed?” I asked, trying to understand.

Lucien’s jaw tightened. “It’s a necessary move.”

I frowned. “Is Bloodfang seeking an alliance?” Was that what he and the Alpha King had discussed last night?

Lucien didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he looked past me, out into the garden, as if choosing his words carefully. “It would be beneficial for us,” he finally said.

I hesitated, my mind racing. Something felt off. Lucien had never been one to change his mind so easily, especially about me taking on a position of importance. He had always kept me at a distance when it came to political matters. But still… this was an opportunity. A chance to prove myself.

I straightened my shoulders. “If this is something you’ve truly decided, then I accept.”

Lucien’s eyes flickered with something unreadable, but he gave a short nod. “Good.”

That was it? I had expected him to at least offer an explanation or some kind of reassurance, but he simply turned away, gazing out at the horizon.

“When do I start?” I asked cautiously.

“In a few days,” he said. “I’ll make the necessary arrangements. There will be meetings you’ll need to attend, reports to go over.”

I nodded, trying to mask the nervous excitement bubbling inside me. I had spent so long feeling useless, feeling like I was simply an accessory in Lucien’s life. Now, I had a chance to do something meaningful, to prove that I was more than just a title. But deep down, there was a gnawing feeling in my gut. Why now? And more importantly… what did Bloodfang have to do with this sudden decision?

I took a breath and decided not to push further. If Lucien wouldn’t give me answers, I would find them myself. I picked up my cup of tea again, bringing it to my lips, but before I could take a sip, a voice interrupted us.

“The car is ready, sir.”

I turned my head to see one of the pack drivers standing at the entrance of the terrace, his hands folded neatly in front of him.

Lucien gave a short nod before glancing back at me. “I have things to take care of. We’ll discuss more later.”

And just like that, he walked away.

I watched his retreating figure, my thoughts tangled. His behavior was too sudden, too different. The Lucien I knew never changed his mind without reason.

The rest of the morning passed in a haze. I busied myself in the library, trying to distract my mind with books, but nothing could shake the lingering unease settling in my chest.

By afternoon, I decided to take a walk through the gardens, hoping the fresh air would help clear my head. The vibrant flowers and neatly trimmed hedges were familiar, comforting in a way, but my thoughts remained restless.

A part of me wanted to believe Lucien was finally acknowledging me, that he was finally giving me a chance to prove my worth as Luna. But another part—the logical part, the cautious part knew better.

I sighed, rubbing my temple as I turned into a corner along the stone pathway. If I was going to be ambassador, I needed to prepare myself. I needed to be strong, to show that I was capable.

No matter what Lucien’s motives were, I would make this role my own. I would prove to him, to Bloodfang, to everyone, that I was more than just Lucien’s wife. I was meant for more than this. Even if I had to fight for it.

Celine’s pov.I stood before the mirror, adjusting the hem of my dress as I examined my reflection. The deep emerald fabric draped elegantly over my figure, its smooth texture a contrast to the unease settling in my stomach. The color had been a deliberate choice—regal, commanding, a silent reminder of my place as the future Luna of Emerald Forest.Yet, for some reason, I didn’t feel like one.I smoothed my hands down my sides, pressing out imaginary wrinkles as if that could get rid of my nervous energy. Today was important. My first official role as an ambassador. A role Lucien had thrust upon me without warning, but one I had accepted without hesitation. It was my chance to prove myself, to show that I wasn’t just a decorative piece in our marriage. Still, a question burned at the back of my mind. Why now?Lucien had never allowed me to take on responsibilities beyond what was expected of a Luna. And yet, overnight, he had changed his mind. The sudden shift unsettled me. I inhaled d

Celine’s pov.The moment I stepped out of the car, the doors behind me shut with a finality that made my stomach twist. The air was cold, but the tension that surrounded the estate was suffocating. The guards who had escorted me here had barely spoken a word, and now, they simply gestured for me to move forward. My footsteps echoed against the floor as I hesitantly followed with a nagging feeling creeping up my spine…I turned slightly, glancing at the stern, faceless warriors stationed along the corridors. Their armor gleamed under the dim light as they watched, but they did not speak.I wasn’t sure what to expect inside, but as soon as the heavy doors swung open, I realized this place was far more than a simple administrative outpost. The interior was cold and imposing, the walls made of dark stone, the floors polished to perfection. Dim lighting made long shadows across the corridors as I was guided through them. I saw no banners or symbols of Bloodfang’s crest, but there was no dou

Celine’s pov.The moment the meeting ended, chairs scraped against the floor as people of power rose from their seats. The room that had once been filled with tension, quiet authority, and murmured agreements was now shifting into motion as the attendees went out. Conversations were brief, eyes sharp with unspoken words, but the moment the doors opened, the alphas, lycan kings, and council members departed without hesitation.I moved to stand as well, preparing to leave with them, but a voice cut through the noise.“Stay.”I froze. The command was deep, firm, and left no room for argument. My grip on the table tightened as I looked up, my breath hitching when I met the eyes of the Alpha King. He hadn’t moved from his position, still standing at the head of the room like he owned not just this space, but every single person who had sat in it, including me.The murmurs around us faded, and though the others continued their exit, I could feel some lingering glances. I wasn’t expecting much, maybe a startled flinch, a sharp intake of breath, or even a look of disgust as she pushed my hand away. But she did none of that. She just stood there, unmoving, staring up at me like she was trying to make sense of what was happening. Like she was trying to memorize me. Interesting!A smirk tugged at the corner of my lips. I liked that. I liked the way she held my gaze, uncertain yet unwilling to step back. Most women I touched reacted immediately—gasping, trembling, blushing. But she? She was still. How Intriguing. My fingers grazed her cheek, lingering just long enough to feel the warmth of her skin. Celine’s pov.The silk gown clung to my body like a second skin, its shimmering feel mocking the cold emptiness I felt inside. I barely moved as I stood stiffly at the grand party, the chatter of wolves ringing in my ears. I shivered, despite the warmth emanating from the fireplace. It felt cold, which was a contrast to the atmosphere. It’s a feeling I had grown accustomed to, one that haunts me in my dreams and remained long after I woke. The plush carpet under my feet provided a little bit of comfort, but that was only for a while…a while until I caught sight of my husband. His chiseled profile was lit up by the soft glow of the chandelier. He threw his head back in laughter, as his eyes crinkled at the corner. Lucien…my mate, my husband—these words felt dry, as dry as the bond we both shared. Who knew marriage could turn into a nightmare?I watched him closely, searching for something…anything that might explain how we got here. But deep down, I already knew. Everything changed t

Celine’s pov.My body reacted before my mind could catch up. I flinched, squeezing my eyes shut and bracing myself for the impact. But nothing came…There was heavy silence as I slowly opened my eyes. Lucien’s hand was still raised, but instead of striking me, his fingers twitched, curling into a fist before relaxing. Then, without warning, he grabbed my chin, forcing my face up to meet his gaze. His grip wasn’t bruising, but it was firm and possessive.“Look at me.” His low voice sounded controlled, but the storm in his eyes betrayed his restraint.I swallowed as my pulse quickened against my skin.“You humiliated me tonight.” He leaned in, his breath warm against my cheek. “I won’t tolerate it again. His thumb brushed over my jaw quite gently, before tilting my head higher. “Get a grip of yourself.” He murmured. “You see that room over there?” He said, pointing at the room we just walked out from. “I would be meeting important people in there, so don’t sabotage things for me.”He le

Celine’s pov.He took a step closer. Not rushed, not hesitant. I swallowed hard, my throat suddenly dry. He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a murmur only me could hear.“Did you hurt your wrist?”The question was soft and gentle, yet it sent a slow, searing heat curling through my veins.I didn’t know what unsettled me more—the quiet, possessive way he asked it… or the way my pulse betrayed me, hammering beneath my skin. His eyes flicked downward, his gaze sweeping over my wrist in a cold, assessing way. He wasn’t just looking—he was studying, as if searching for the slightest hint of damage.Something in me cracked. Like a dam bursting, every emotion I had fought to suppress…Lucien’s neglect, the humiliation of this evening, the drunk man’s grip, everything came rushing to the surface. And before I could stop it, a sob tore from my throat.Tears welled up, hot and uncontrollable. I turned away sharply, my back to him, mortified. Why was I crying? Was it exhaustion? Frustrat

Celine’s pov.The car ride was suffocating. I sat rigidly in my seat, hands clenched in my lap as I stared blankly out the window. The city lights blurred past, but I barely saw them. My mind was still stuck in the mall, in that moment when Lucien raised his hand, in the way the Alpha King had stopped him so effortlessly. Lucien had almost hit me...in public.I swallowed hard, gripping my dress tighter. He had never been affectionate, never the kind of husband to hold my hand or whisper sweet words, but he had never been outright violent either. Until tonight. But that wasn’t the only thing that unsettled me, it was his silence. I had expected him to lash out the moment we got in the car, to yell at me for embarrassing him, for drawing attention. But he didn’t. He didn’t even look at me. Instead, his grip on the steering wheel was tight, and his knuckles went white. His jaw was clenched, his entire body stiff as though he was battling something inside him.I stole a glance at him, my h

Celine’s pov.Even under the harsh mall lights, he looked stunning. His thick black hair was messy yet stylish. His olive-toned skin complemented his sharp cheekbones and straight nose. But it was his eyes that really caught my attention. They were a deep, hypnotic green that seemed to hold me in place.I felt it again. That pull. That eerie stillness in my veins. What was the Alpha king of bloodfang pack doing here?He didn’t even look at me. He simply continued picking up the scattered mess, his long fingers brushing over the ruined items with an almost infuriating lack of urgency. Before I could fully process it, another person rushed forward—a young employee, eyes wide and a panic filled face. Perhaps it was fear, but they didn’t dare let a man like him kneel on their floor picking up shattered glass. They took over the task immediately.I exhaled sharply, forcing myself to stand. I didn’t know if this was a coincidence or something else entirely, but the idea of running into him

Finally, I raised a brow, silently urging him to speak.“I also found this about Lucien Greythorne.” He said, stepping forward and placing a folded sheet of paper in front of me.I frowned, picking it up with slow fingers. “And why didn’t you hand me this earlier?” My voice was calm, but there was sharpness beneath it.Oscar hesitated before clearing his throat. “I was… letting you savor the first discovery before dropping another.”I exhaled through my nose, shaking my head slightly. He had a habit of thinking he’s clever. It amused me sometimes, tonight, it simply made me impatient. But I let it slide. My gaze dropped to the paper as I unfolded it, scanning the words before me. And then, slowly, a smile curled at the corner of my lips. Interesting!A low chuckle rumbled
