Celine’s pov.

I should have yanked myself away, put distance between us, demanded to know what he thought he was doing. But my body betrayed me. I stood frozen, my fingers clutching the fabric at my chest, my heart pounding like a war drum inside me. I wasn’t supposed to feel this way. Not about him. Not about anyone but Lucien.

Lucien!

The thought of my husband should have been enough to shake me out of this daze, but instead, an unfamiliar ache settled deep in my chest. Lucien had never once made my skin burn the way it did now. Never once had his touch made my breath hitch, had his presence made my stomach coil with tension and something dangerously close to anticipation. Yes! I was married but lonely.

I gasped as his fingers dug slightly into my waist, pulling me even closer. My body tensed, every nerve ending firing at once, but I couldn’t bring myself to move.

His warmth enveloped me, his presence overpowering. My bare skin tingled under his touch, my senses betraying me in the

Kaine’s pov.Her startled expression was a masterpiece of emotion—wide eyes, parted lips, and a flush creeping down her neck as she froze at the sound of the door opening. Celine was in mid air, caught between pulling the dress over her body and shielding herself from my gaze. The sight was exquisite. But what truly intrigued me was the flicker of shock quickly tainted by disdain in her eyes. It was as if she had just realized she was a pawn in a game she didn’t yet understand. That confusion, the war between defiance and unease, made her even more captivating. The dress I had chosen for her was half on, hanging from her shoulders as she struggled with the zipper at her back. Her fingers fumbled, blindly reaching for something just out of grasp. I didn’t speak immediately. I simply watched. There was something fascinating about the way her breathing changed when she sensed my presence. Not fear—no, she wasn’t afraid of me. She should have been. But she wasn’t. Instead, she was furious

Celine’s pov.The drive back home was quiet compared to the storm raging in my head.Home. I repeated the word to myself, trying to let it calm me, but it felt foreign on my tongue. I should have felt relieved to be going back. I should have been eager to return to my pack, to my house. And yet…A heavy feeling sat in my chest, pressing down with every mile that passed. I exhaled slowly, staring out the tinted window of the black SUV, watching as the trees blurred past in streaks of green and gold. The road was unfamiliar, going in a direction I didn’t recognize, but I told myself it didn’t matter. Perhaps they were taking a different route. Maybe it was some security measure the Alpha king’s people took when transporting someone like me.Because that’s what I was, wasn’t I? A thing to be transported. The thought left a bitter taste in my mouth. I stretched my fingers in my lap, trying to shake the feeling crawling under my skin.I needed to prepare myself, for the questions I had to

Celine’s pov.A shiver ran down my spine. I swallowed hard, lifting my chin. “You won’t get it.” I challenged.“You should leave him,” he suddenly said, his voice low and persuasive. “I know you no longer have feelings for your husband. Why not stay by my side?”I let out a bitter laugh, shaking my head. “You think because I don’t love Lucien, I’ll just fall into your arms?” I scoffed. “You’re delusional. I can’t be with someone who keeps me here against my will.”His expression darkened. The slight amusement in his eyes vanished, replaced by something more dangerous. Before I could take another breath, he moved. He was on me in an instant, closing the distance in one swift step. His hands gripped my arms, his touch firm and unyielding.“Let go of me!” I shouted, struggling against him.But it was useless. He was far stronger, and in one swift motion, he lifted me off the ground and threw me over his shoulder as if I weighed nothing.I kicked, pounded my fists against his back. “Put m

Kaine’s pov.I stormed into my office, slamming the door behind me. My jaw was tight, and my hands curled into fists at my sides. I could still hear the echo of her cries, the way she begged me to stop. That wasn’t what I wanted. That wasn’t how I had envisioned this.Celine…I had lost control. I never lose control. But with her beneath me, trembling, her eyes wide with terror, I had felt something I hadn’t expected—hesitation. It wasn’t guilt. No, I didn’t regret pinning her down, didn’t regret trying to claim what I already considered mine. What I regretted was stopping.I had seen the tears streaking down her face, her body stiff beneath me, and for some reason, I had pulled back. It infuriated me.She had no problem letting Lucien touch her, yet she resisted me?Call me crazy, but why would she resist me?I ran a hand through my hair and exhaled sharply, trying to steady my thoughts. Celine’s pov.The silk gown clung to my body like a second skin, its shimmering feel mocking the cold emptiness I felt inside. I barely moved as I stood stiffly at the grand party, the chatter of wolves ringing in my ears. I shivered, despite the warmth emanating from the fireplace. It felt cold, which was a contrast to the atmosphere. It’s a feeling I had grown accustomed to, one that haunts me in my dreams and remained long after I woke. The plush carpet under my feet provided a little bit of comfort, but that was only for a while…a while until I caught sight of my husband. His chiseled profile was lit up by the soft glow of the chandelier. He threw his head back in laughter, as his eyes crinkled at the corner. Lucien…my mate, my husband—these words felt dry, as dry as the bond we both shared. Who knew marriage could turn into a nightmare?I watched him closely, searching for something…anything that might explain how we got here. But deep down, I already knew. Everything changed t

Celine’s pov.My body reacted before my mind could catch up. I flinched, squeezing my eyes shut and bracing myself for the impact. But nothing came…There was heavy silence as I slowly opened my eyes. Lucien’s hand was still raised, but instead of striking me, his fingers twitched, curling into a fist before relaxing. Then, without warning, he grabbed my chin, forcing my face up to meet his gaze. His grip wasn’t bruising, but it was firm and possessive.“Look at me.” His low voice sounded controlled, but the storm in his eyes betrayed his restraint.I swallowed as my pulse quickened against my skin.“You humiliated me tonight.” He leaned in, his breath warm against my cheek. “I won’t tolerate it again. His thumb brushed over my jaw quite gently, before tilting my head higher. “Get a grip of yourself.” He murmured. “You see that room over there?” He said, pointing at the room we just walked out from. “I would be meeting important people in there, so don’t sabotage things for me.”He le

Celine’s pov.He took a step closer. Not rushed, not hesitant. I swallowed hard, my throat suddenly dry. He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a murmur only me could hear.“Did you hurt your wrist?”The question was soft and gentle, yet it sent a slow, searing heat curling through my veins.I didn’t know what unsettled me more—the quiet, possessive way he asked it… or the way my pulse betrayed me, hammering beneath my skin. His eyes flicked downward, his gaze sweeping over my wrist in a cold, assessing way. He wasn’t just looking—he was studying, as if searching for the slightest hint of damage.Something in me cracked. Like a dam bursting, every emotion I had fought to suppress…Lucien’s neglect, the humiliation of this evening, the drunk man’s grip, everything came rushing to the surface. And before I could stop it, a sob tore from my throat.Tears welled up, hot and uncontrollable. I turned away sharply, my back to him, mortified. Why was I crying? Was it exhaustion? Frustrat

Instead, I let the moment stretch, my fingers tapping lazily against the polished wood of my desk. Finally, I raised a brow, silently urging him to speak.“I also found this about Lucien Greythorne.” He said, stepping forward and placing a folded sheet of paper in front of me.I frowned, picking it up with slow fingers. “And why didn’t you hand me this earlier?” My voice was calm, but there was sharpness beneath it.Oscar hesitated before clearing his throat. “I was… letting you savor the first discovery before dropping another.”I exhaled through my nose, shaking my head slightly. He had a habit of thinking he’s clever. It amused me sometimes, tonight, it simply made me impatient. But I let it slide. My gaze dropped to the paper as I unfolded it, scanning the words before me. And then, slowly, a smile curled at the corner of my lips. Interesting!A low chuckle rumbled

Celine’s pov.I ran.The air was thick, pressing against my chest like unseen hands. My legs ached, but I pushed forward, feet pounding against a ground I couldn’t see. Shadows twisted and curled around me, stretching like clawed fingers trying to pull me back.Something was behind me. Chasing me. Hunting me. I didn’t dare look back. My breath came in gasps, and my heart slammed against my ribs, but I kept running. The presence behind me grew closer, its heat licking at my back, its presence sinking into my skin. Then I felt a hand. Cold and unyielding, it clamped around my throat. My body jerked back violently as if yanked by an invisible force. Panic exploded in my chest. I clawed at the fingers crushing my windpipe, my nails scraping against skin—rough, calloused, too strong. I kicked, twisted, fought. Then the scent hit me, it was familiar. A shudder rolled through me, fear curling tighter inside my gut. Why did it smell familiar? Who—I tried to scream but no sound came out. The

Celine’s pov.I followed the Beta down the corridor, my heartbeat pounding like a war drum in my ears. The walls were dark-stained wood, lined with dimly lit sconces that flickered as we passed. The air held a faint scent of burning firewood and something more distinct, something I couldn’t quite place. It wasn’t unpleasant, but it carried something old and ingrained into the very bones of this place.I focused on memorizing the path, just in case I had to retrace my steps. The hallways twisted and turned, too many doors, too many unknown paths leading deeper into the heart of this place. It didn’t feel like an estate or a simple packhouse, it felt like a fortress. My throat tightened at the realization that I wouldn’t be able to escape easily. Finally, the Beta stopped in front of a heavy wooden door. He turned to me. “This way, miss.”His voice was polite but impersonal. Not a suggestion, but a command.I hesitated, glancing past him. The hallway stretched ahead, disappearing into d

I let her, stepping back slightly, though not because she had any real strength against me—no, it was because I enjoyed seeing her fire. She straightened. “I don’t care if you’re the Alpha King of bloodfang pack,” she said through gritted teeth. “I will not tolerate you talking about my husband like I’m some insect you can crush beneath your boot.”My smirk faded. Ah…There it was…that rebellion. That sharp tongue. A dangerous thing to wield in my presence. I let the silence go on between us, watching the rise and fall of her chest, the way her breath was coming faster now. She was angry. And perhaps…a little afraid.Good!“You don’t get to decide what you tolerate, little wolf,” I said smoothly. “Not here.”Her eyes darkened. “Are you trying to keep me here against my will?”I smiled. “You’re asking the wrong question.”“Then what’s the right question?” She asked sharply.I leaned in, my lips almost brushing against her ear. “Why ar

Kaine’s pov.I watched her eyes closely as I deliberately stepped closer, reaching out to touch her face. I wasn’t expecting much, maybe a startled flinch, a sharp intake of breath, or even a look of disgust as she pushed my hand away. But she did none of that. She just stood there, unmoving, staring up at me like she was trying to make sense of what was happening. Like she was trying to memorize me. Interesting!A smirk tugged at the corner of my lips. I liked that. I liked the way she held my gaze, uncertain yet unwilling to step back. Most women I touched reacted immediately—gasping, trembling, blushing. But she? She was still. How Intriguing. My fingers grazed her cheek, lingering just long enough to feel the warmth of her skin. She didn’t shy away, but she wasn’t leaning in either. It was as if she was caught between two instincts—one telling her to move away and another telling her to stay.A slow amusement curled in my chest. Was she afraid? Or was she curious? I tilted my head
