Evan's P. O. V
After school, I went home and waited in my room patiently. The doorbell rang all of a sudden so I jumped up. It must be her.
"You are late," I said irritably.
"Sorry. Mom had me do some chores," she said quietly.
"Or is it because you were too busy hanging out with the squirrel?" I asked.
"Squir...oh you mean Brent. No that's not it," she said.
"Come with me," I pulled her by the arm and went to my room then slammed the door shut.
"I don't understand," Annie said while adjusting her glasses. "Your room looks clean." she looked at me with confusion.
"Forget about the cleaning. What is the deal with you and Brent?" I asked directly.
"Oh um...we..I think I like him," she was hesitant.
"You think you like him," I repeated. I was suddenly feeling annoyed. It wasn't uncommon thing for teenage girl like to have a crush but why did she have to pick that squirrel face?
"Yeah. He said I was cute. No one called me cute before," she gave me a shy smile.
"So one guy calls you cute and you gonna fall head over heels with him? Are you stupid?" I don't know why but this conversation was making me angry.
"I am not stupid! I do like him. I think he is cute too and he asked me to go to the movies with him on Saturday," she blurted out.
"Oh really now? Little hamster got herself a date with the squirrel boy. How sweet," I mocked.
"Evan, please. Please don't ruin this for me! I won't have another chance, most people think I am too skinny or too ugly," she pleaded. Her eyes were starting to tear up. Jeez...is she gonna cry now?
"Okay okay, Jesus. Date that dork, I don't care," I said gruffly.
"That's why I can't do chores for you anymore, Brent said he doesn't like me being a pushover," Annie said.
Oh, so that's where her courage came from.
"You know what, I'll go ahead and take pity on you. I won't ask you to do anything until you go on your stupid date. I wanna see how it falls apart. It'd be amusing," I smirked.
Annie's face brightened up. "Okay! Then I'll go home now," she said and started to leave but I grabbed her arm as I heard her stomach growl.
"You didn't eat much when you hung out with that dork did you?" I stared at her intently. She looks hungry, plus her stomach doesn't lie.
"No...I skipped lunch," she said hesitantly and looked down.
"I fucking knew it. I can't leave you alone for one minute. What will happen if you passed out? That squirrel sure as hell wouldn't carry your ass to the hospital with those scrawny arms!" I scolded her. "Go sit on the kitchen table. I'll heat some food."
"You don't have to! I'll go home," she protested.
"Did I ask you!" I roared.
She pouted but didn't dare go against me. She sat down on the kitchen table and waited like a good girl.
Annie's P.O.V.
I can't believe Brent asked me out on a date! It made me so happy. No one ever takes me out because they think I am dorky looking. And it's all thanks to these glasses. Or maybe I was just ugly? I don't know.
I was shocked when he asked me during lunch though. I couldn't say anything for the first few minutes.
"Annie? Were you listening? So...do you want to go to the movies or not?" Brent asked again.
"Ah...um...I..." I started to mumble. My face was turning red. Ugh! Why am I so awkward?
"Is that a no?" Brent raised his eyebrows.
NOOOO! I was blowing it!
"No! I mean yes! I would love to," I said eagerly.
"Great then. I will pick you up on Saturday," Brent smiled.
"O..okay," I said.
After school was over, Brent offered to walk me home but I had to refuse. Evan wanted me to come clean his room so I had to go to his house. But I couldn't tell Brent that. Evan was always making me do stuff like this. When will this nightmare end?
I hoped he wasn't too mad about me not coming to have lunch with him. I bet he was. God knows what he will do to me once he found out I was with Brent.
But...surprisingly enough, he wasn't mad. He kept asking me about Brent. And when I told him, he took it surprisingly well. On top of that, he was feeding me!
That was the weird thing about Evan. He was always being mean to me and insulting me, but at the same time, he brought me lunch which was strangely sweet of him. He always complained about how I didn't eat enough. I asked him about it one day and all he said to me was, "I hate skinny bitches." I mean, what the hell?
He made me sit on the table and eat lunch. The food was delicious so I didn't complain.
"So what do you like about squirrel face?" Evan asked while I was eating.
"Um...I think he is cute," I said honestly.
"He..looks..like..a squirrel," Evan spelled it out for me. Why does he have to be mean to everyone?
"No, he doesn't!" I protested.
"Well then you have terrible taste in men," Evan commented.
"No, I don't! Otherwise, I would be dating you!" I blurted out. Oops...I just insulted him. I am dead.
Evan stared at me intently. His blue eyes were glowing. Was he mad? I couldn't tell.
"Was that a comeback?" He loomed over me. I got nervous and dropped my fork on the plate.
"N...no it wasn't," I stammered.
"What's wrong with me, huh? Think I am not good enough for you?" Evan challenged.
"That's not what I meant. I am sorry," I said and looked down.
He stared me down for a few more seconds then patted me on the head. "Don't worry about it. I'll forgive you for now. How was the food?" he asked.
"It...it was good," I still couldn't believe he was letting me off the hook.
"Want some more?" he asked. His voice was surprisingly gentle. What was up with him today?
"No, I am okay," I said quietly.
"Okay. You can leave," he said.
Oh thank god, I couldn't survive one more second sitting in front of him. I had to get out of here!
"And by the way," he stopped me before I made it out the door. "You are going to report to me about your date. Down to the last detail," he said.
"Huh? But why?" I asked.
"Don't ask me questions, just do as I say," he barked.
I left without saying anything. Who does he think he is ordering me around like this?
Annie's P.O.V.I left his house feeling confused. Why does Evan care what I do with Brent on our date? Does he want to control my life that bad?Brent and I texted each other all day. I felt giddy every time he texted me. Maybe my life will finally get better now.
Evan's P.O.V.Saturday night came and I felt anxious. Wasn't Annie supposed to go on a date with Brent? Why was I nervous? Why do I care in the first place? These questions kept circulating in my brain but I didn't feel like thinking too hard about it.I looked out the window and waited for her to come out. How late was this movie? A couple more hours went by but still no Annie. I should just go do my own thing. Why was I worried about her date? But I couldn't take it anymore. I had to know what she was up to. I was just so used yo having her my side all the time it was hard for me to leave her alone.I got my binocular out and pointed at her window. Yeah, I know what you are thinking. Creepy stalker much? Well, I've done worse things. And it's not like I am going to sit here and watch her undress. I don't get off watching naked chicks from the distance. Besides, she has no boobs anyway. She was laying on her bed with her face down on the pillow. Her body was shaking a little. Is she c
Evan's P.O.V.I drove her back to our neighborhood and parked the car. She wasn't crying anymore but she had a grim expression on her face."You didn't have to scare him like that," she said quietly."What, you are still worried about that
Evan's P.O.V.I had a suspicion Annie's mother had been abusing her for years but I wasn't sure. Her mother looked like an ordinary woman who was all smiles when she was in front of strangers. Even me. But every time I saw new bruises on Annie's face, I knew immediately that her bitch mother had something to do with it. And the other day, Annie slipped and told me about her mother hitting her for breaking the old pair of glasses. Even though I was the one responsible, she got punished for it.
Annie's P.O.V.How long have I been asleep? I had no idea. I remembered my eyelids feeling heavy as soon as I put my head on Evan's pillow. I should probably go home.I didn't want to open my eyes. I felt so warm and comfortable."Are you p
Evan's P. O. V."What's her problem?" Lily said."Huh? What are you talking about?" I raised my eyebrows."The girl who is always following you around? Don't you get annoyed?" she asked.
Evan's P. O. V.I smiled as I saw Annie wearing the dress I gave her. I would've gotten more for her if I knew she would look this adorable in it."Hi," she said shyly."Did you have any problem sneaking out?" I asked.
Evan's P. O. V.I took her by the arm and dragged her to my car. When I saw her standing there watching me and Lily making out, I thought I saw sadness flicker in her eyes. I wanted to see if she was mad or jealous afterward but she looked like she was having a good time with Mike. Then I was the one who got jealous."What were you getting all buddy buddy with Mike for?" I snarled.
