Jasmine wiped the tear about to fall from the corner of her left eye as she looked forward. That's what she was going to do after the experience she had today— look ahead of her. She fisted her hands to her sides, watching as impatient vehicles zoomed past her on the busy road.

The black and white strips of the zebra crossing made her temples ache. The same black and white dots started blinking and throbbing on the border of her vision. She felt the smooth texture of the parchment she was holding burn in her closed palm— it was the gift she had prepared for her husband.

Pain tore through her as the smoothness of the paper turned into unbearable heat. Her hand shook, but she didn't let her grip loosen or more tears fall.

'It's useless to cry on a man who compared my womb to a barren land!' She reminded herself.

However, his words triggered emotions she was battling to keep buried in. Tears blurred her vision as her emotions rose up through her like a tide.

Jasmine couldn't help but sob as her head lowered. There were people around her, waiting for the signal to turn green so they could cross the road. She didn't want them to heed her tears or the fact that she was the most unfortunate being among them.

It's not like she was always like this. Everything changed for her at 9.30 am in the morning when she decided to congratulate her husband of four years, Vince Garrison, for landing a huge business deal with a surprise. Since he didn't turn up last night, she decided to go meet him at his office.

That was the most unfortunate moment of her life that plunged her into the abyss of sorrow she was in right now. She wished she hadn't gone, but the deed was done.

She regretted forcing her way past his secretary to burst into his office, even as he tried to hold her back, but the impulse had been uncontrollable.

She desperately wished her hazel eyes hadn't taken in the sight of Lucy, his young stepmother, age thirty-three, who married his fifty-four year old father, sitting in his lap, chest bared as he suckled at her full breasts. But the image was burned into her memory.

It wasn't a dream. It couldn't be. Because Jasmine had pinched herself to pull herself back to the real world in case she was dreaming. She wasn't.

It was broad daylight and Vince didn't even flinch back when she walked in on them. Their eyes had met, but he didn't stop. He didn't look away as he continued to eat Lucy's tittíes and grope them.

Even as his lips stayed on Lucy's nípple, they twisted into a dark smirk, taunting Jasmine with the unspoken words- You didn't think I'd be with my sexy, young stepmother, did you?

That doesn't happen in a dream, does it? Even if a husband is cheating on his wife, the ounce of conscience he has in his heart would compel him to move away from his mistress after setting his gaze on his wife. But Vince, that puckered asshóle arrogantly held her gaze. He pulled Lucy closer, and that beautiful brunette arched her back to offer her large breasts to him more. They together mocked her.

Jasmine sucked in a breath greedily as the loud chiming of the phone of a woman standing next to rang out. She looked at her, at her head full of dyed brunette hair, reminding her of Lucy. Tears returned, quivering on the edge of her hazel gaze. It was a relief that the woman didn't smile at her victoriously like Lucy did. This woman's brows furrowed as she raised a hand to rest on Jasmine's shoulder.

"Hey, everything okay?" The woman's soft voice hit her like a hailstorm.

Jasmine's trembling lips parted. Her throat ached as she tried to form a word which would have sounded like, "Nothing's okay! A brunette woman... I mean a brunette bitch I was reminded by your hair stole my husband from me. No, that's not the right way to put it. Actually, my spineless husband cheated on me with a brunette bitch, who's also supposed to be his young step mother. He also called me barren before throwing me out of his office."

The woman stared at her for a while before withdrawing her hand. She cast a faultfinding look towards Jasmine's lack of response. Only when the woman started walking away did she realise that those were the words she wanted to say to her. Alas, she lost the warmth the woman's eyes held exactly how she lost her worth a while ago.

Jasmine shivered as the cool air brushed against her. She wore a white cardigan, stained with a dry tea patch just below her chin— a mark from when she accidentally spilled a cup of tea on herself. Though she didn't incur burns, it was no less. Her chest was on fire. It had grown heavy from the discovery she made today.

She couldn't breathe. The world seemed to be tilting sideways. She couldn't stop shaking. Couldn't stop grieving. Couldn't stop crying. Couldn't stop her mind from replaying that scene from her husband's office. Jasmine forced herself to take a breath as she saw the woman who had offered her a moment's warmth disappear behind the curb.

Jasmine broke free from her reverie with a jolt. It sank in that everyone around her had almost reached the other side of the road while she remained right there. She blinked her tears and took a step forward as she refused to be left behind. She had promised to look ahead. Similarly, she was going to always walk ahead without letting her cowardly husband's betrayal affect her.

What happened, happened. There's no need to cry over it.

Nevertheless, Jasmine stepped onto the road at the exact moment the traffic lights switched to red and the engines revved up. The vehicles roared to life, causing her legs to lock up in reflex. Her heart stopped beating in panic as she watched a speeding car closing in on her. Before she could move backwards it slammed into her, sending her crashing to the pavement.

Jasmine winced upon a breath. Her ribs hurt. Her hand holding the paper unfastened as thousands of scorching needles pricked her wrist. She couldn't comprehend where exactly the pain began or ended. It made her vision misty and the sky overhead began to spin.

The impact was sickening. Her world had already drowned into darkness, and now she felt her senses going down the same road. She wished to never emerge from the darkness.

But then, it hit her— she wasn’t alone.

There was a life growing inside her— In her womb that had been mocked as a stretch of infertile land by her cheater husband. Her hands instinctively moved to protect her stomach, aching to cradle the life within.

Unfortunately, her consciousness faded into oblivion before could raise a hand.

Loving this story so far. I hope Vince’s dad divorces the home wrecker and disowns his son for sleeping with his wife. She is just a gold digger.

2When Jasmine stirred back to her senses, she found herself on a hospital bed. The back of her left hand was covered with an IV needle. She tried to move when a man's emotionless voice shook her to the core."Don't move! You just had a miscarriage."The words skipped her heartbeats. Her breathing came to a halt as her throat closed up. Jasmine wanted to cry but her tears had dried up.She sat rigidly like a model used in art studios for painting. Her mouth was sealed tight and her cheeks drained of color. Although the disclosure of the miscarriage weighed down on her, she didn't feel a single ounce of remorse. Miscarriage. For some women, 'miscarriage' was a word filled with trauma and pain. Women who couldn't get pregnant even after trying a hundred times, doing a hundred things, prayed for a miracle to happen to get pregnant. To such women, the mere mention of 'miscarriage' would bring overwhelming anxiety and trauma. But then there were some women who didn't want to do anything

3"You already wasted three hours of mine. Now be quick and tell me how much you want." Kyle's scrutiny seared into her flesh, hot and insulting and agonizing. He was barely keeping his unbridled anger in control because the woman looked pathetic with all the bandages around her right arm, head and that pitiful blue bruise on the corner of her mouth from falling on her face after getting hit by his car. Otherwise he had lost his sanity the minute he regarded the piece of paper in her grip that she had been holding when she was struck by his car. Kyle looked at the woman and felt disgust brimming within him. There was no doubt the woman jumped in front of his car to demand more money. Ultimately her plan was something else! She probably wanted to use the baby in her womb— which he suspected didn't belong to him; after all, a dozen women like her visited him at his mansion, office, and where not, just to claim that he impregnated them— too bad for her that her plan backfired becaus

4The check was lifted again as he calmly spoke, "If you can't think of a sum, I'll make it easy for you. How about 1,00,000 dollars? Is that enough?" "Get out before I stamp your face with my foot." Jasmine rasped. Her audacity amazed Kyle. He had never seen a woman persist so much. Although he encountered many gold-diggers, they happily lowered their masks of naivety once he presented a blank check to them. This woman seemed like a skillful player. Maybe she needed more money. Fine. He thought as he tore another check and filled 5,00,000 in it. "Now, is it enough? It should be. You better stop that act and take it, girl. I don't have much time to waste on you. I have a meeting." Jasmine never felt so humiliated in her life before. Although her husband's treason was a hard slap on her face, it wasn't as hurtful as this. She just lost her baby after losing the mirage of a happy married life she lived, and now this man was carving more painful slits on her heart. "Just who exac

5Kyle stayed in the ward while a team of doctor and two nurses took care of the woman. He watched as they cleaned the dry blood from the back of her hand that had bled from removing the IV pipe and secured it with a bandage. He felt a sting when the doctor pierced her other hand with a new cannula to continue providing her fluids- the hand with a temporary plaster. Now as he reflected back on his harsh conversation with the woman, contrition weighed down on him. Her words echoed in his mind, causing his temples to ache. The baby wasn't his and the woman hadn't really jumped in front of his car to get money from him. That reminded him of the letter he had retrieved from her closed fingers while bringing her to the hospital. Kyle dug into his pocket for the letter. The paper was warm pink, with lots of tiny dark pink hearts scattered all over it. His shoulders stiffened as he reread every word of the letter unhurriedly, like he had all the time in the world. Dear Daddy,Congratulat

6Lila stayed back in Kyle's bedroom after he left to take a shower. She was standing in his walk-in closet, removing clothes for him. Her hands lingered on the rack holding his shirts. She picked a shirt out and slid her hands into it, wearing it to her chest and inhaling his scent."Mmm!" Moaning, she pressed the sleeve to her cheek and smiled. She always imagined him unbuttoning his shirt in front of her, while she laid naked in his bed. Kyle made her feel things he was not even remotely aware of. He made her thighs shiver and heart caught speed."I wish you could feel my emotions, Kyle. I love you so much. Why don't you see me as other women in your life?" Lila pouted at her reflection as she checked herself in the mirror. She had an enticing figure. Heads turned to look at her whenever she went out in public. It was on a daily basis that men approached her to ask her out. But she had saved herself for Kyle Panther, her childhood love. She had a face only she intended to show him.

7 "So how is it?" Lila asked while holding a breath as she watched Kyle take the first bite. Kyle’s brows drew together, his expression one of critical appraisal, like a master chef carefully testing a dish."Mmm, not bad. But I think if you buttered the vegetables more, it would have been—" "Kyle, you're such a jerk. I'm not eating with you. I'm leaving!" Lila feigned to be hurt by his remark and started to get up. Kyle laughed at her antics and grasped her wrists. He pulled her back in her chair and playfully slapped her forehead. "I always ask you to bring me food because nothing compares to your cooking, Lila. Otherwise, I’d be stuck with takeout, and it’s just not the same.""I know," Lila stuck her tongue out. "But two can play this game."She giggled and pulled his cheek. Kyle smiled warmly in response, making her clench her thighs tightly. She froze in the moment as her eyes lingered on his lips, at the gorgeous smile he wore, and at how he glowed with an otherworldly aura

8Kyle was grateful for having a friend like her. He reached out for her hand and held it as his eyes shone in brotherly affection. "Thanks, Lila. What would I ever do without you? I don't think anyone would have understood my situation better than you."Lila's lips curled with a soft smile, "Kyle, I'm here for you. You are regretful and it's enough." Then they resumed eating their food. After a few bites, Kyle raised his head with a thoughtful look."I'm thinking to go to the hospital and investigate myself, Lila. What do you say?""Hmm, good idea. Would you mind if I join you?" She asked as this situation was a little more serious than it seemed.Kyle never took interest in any person or in their pain ever before. But if he was asking to go to investigate that woman, it was a bad sign. It also meant that the woman could be a problem for Lila. Hence, if she could go, she could thwart his efforts to find her. It was best for that woman to remain gone.Kyle agreed with a grateful smi

9She blinked her eyes, tearing out of her trance. Max was sizing her up with a look of excitement while her skin smoldered with goosebumps. His lecherous gaze roamed over her, lingering on the hospital gown and her fragile state. The smirk tugging at his lips made it clear he couldn’t care less about her injuries or what she’d been through. He was simply pleased she was alone and within his reach.Max was a wolf dressed in the skin of a sheep. His eyes always seemed to devour women's bodies, and Jasmine couldn't help but wonder if he could see through their clothes. He had the unmistakable air of a pervert, and his presence made her feel vulnerable and unsafe.Jasmine gulped her anxiety below her throat and tried to look unfazed by their encounter. Max was shameless and depraved. She couldn't appear weak in front of him, else he would feed on it. "Excuse me," She firmly stated and tried to brush past him, trying to escape quickly. 60"Well, well, well… looks like someone’s having a grand feast! But I feel disappointed, Kyle. What have I done to not get an invitation? Your guest seemed to have gained her senses back too." Lila walked in on them as she refused to stay in the corner while a stranger was enjoying Kyle's attention and compliments. She sat down next to Kyle after kissing him on the cheek, her eyes fixed on Jasmine darkly. "I am sad! How can you do this to me?" "Oh, Lila," Kyle rolled his eyes the same way he did each time Lila threw an unnecessary tantrum. "Stop being ridiculous. You were out of town for a big brand's ad shooting, weren't you? And you said it'll take about a week or two before you come back. How could I have known it would be over within a week!" Lila's ears turned pink. She wasn't expecting Kyle to treat her with such offending boldness— like yeah, she knew that he assumed her as a 'good' best friend. But she still had a reputation. It felt like an insult in front of Jasmine and

59Jasmine mentally facepalmed and held her breath. She cursed herself for saying that. "W-why don't you come and sit down? I'll serve you food."His dark eyes suggested that he was in for a playful conversation. Nevertheless, her pink face made him sigh and let it be. The woman had never given him anything but sharp words in her right mind. This had to be a mistake.Kyle sank in his chair. He subtly lifted his eyebrows in surprise at the swan he saw in his plate. Since he heard their conversation, he called Mari over and said, "This is lovely, Mari. Perhaps, you should teach this to Lila someday." "S-sure, sir. And thank you." He stayed quiet while Jasmine served food on his plate. There were a variety of dishes. Each one smelled delicious. After Jasmine was done giving a portion of each to him, she folded her hands and stood beside him with hopeful expression. "Aren't you going to join me?" Kyle frowned. "I'll..." Jasmine took a deep breath. "Thanks. But Mari, Jojo and I will ea

58Ruby collapsed on the floor as tears left her eyes. Fear, the likes of which she had never known, consumed her. Kyle's threats reverberated in her ears, making her mind to conjure the images; and damn, they caused her belly to surge with intolerable fright. "H-he knows about my secret. He knows Tania is my biological daughter! H-he will use her to punish me. M-my daughter, my beautiful daughter... S-she..." Ruby trailed off as she shook her head. She slapped her cheeks to regain her senses and cleaned her face. Kyle might have threatened her, he wouldn't do anything if she got him whatever he wanted from Karson."He spoke about a sign. I should have been concerned if he had shown interest in Karson’s property. What issues can arise from signing non-inheritance related documents?" She told to herself. If one sign can get Kyle Panther off her back and away from their lives, she would do it at any cost. Because Kyle Panther had nothing to lose if he didn't get that sign. But she w

57"Oh, but I'm still your husband's only legitimate heir. Who do you think his property will go to if I file for it?" His voice was cold and exact. Ruby was caught off guard and rendered speechless. She hated the fact that the test of time had steeled the boy she bullied for entertainment into a fierce, cunning and ruthless man with no weakness. She shuddered on the inside, realizing that she had no leverage over him. She couldn't hurt a single hair strand on his head now. The boy had indeed grown up to be the devil himself. "Y-you won't dare. You voluntarily walked out of the house and refused your father's provision when you were a child. You have no right to demand anything. The law will never allow it." She tried to act strong. But Kyle saw through her fear. She knew as much as he did that nothing was impossible for him. He had law in his back pocket. Law was like a stress ball in his hand that he squeezed and unsqueezed as he liked. "That's what you think? Haha, age is real

But your mom— that narcissistic woman preferred to leave her husband and son for the sake of her so-called dignity." She took another sip and sniggered. "And then what? She died a painful death in isolation with no one to look after her." Kyle's body stiffened as all the blood rushed to his head.He didn't exactly know how painful Sophia's death was, but he was aware that she had cancer. She discovered it when it was already the last stage. "It's no fun talking about her! She left too soon. I didn't even get to see her properly.""But you were there for a while, weren't you? Why don't we relive some of the old time? We had so much fun, after all." She grinned while Kyle's face became white as memories flooded back to his mind. 55Kyle was wrapping up for the day. He had an online conference and it just got over five minutes ago. He was sitting with his head resting on his hands on the desk as he kept his eyes closed to relax himself before preparing to leave. Sun was half set, painting the world with a red and orange hue. Shadows of the buildings outside the window grew bigger on the ground while the birds returning to their nests squawked. Kyle had slipped into a slumber but a knock on the door sounded and he sat up straight. As he ran his hands on his face, Titus trudged towards the desk with a somber look. His eyebrows were drawn together and it could be seen that he had a file in his hands— one that he clutched tightly with his fingers. Kyle observed that look and raised an eyebrow. "Why do you look like someone asked for one of your kidneys from you?" He attempted to joke but there was no shift in his PA's expression. He nervously placed the file he was holding onto the desk, and slid it towards h

54Mari had to lie as she was told, and her employer believed because his guest did fall in his presence on the first night she was brought home. "Maybe you're right." Jasmine said, breaking her trance. "I did fall that night but my entire body was buzzing with pain back then, so I didn't notice.""But if you look at it, it seems like I've been pinched!" "No!" Mari almost screamed. "I... I mean, you're overthinking, miss.""Haha, you're right. But I won't be surprised if my husband's mistress did this to me in the hospital while I was sedated." "Is she really that cruel?" Mari meekly asked. For her, no one was crueler than Lila. She was unbeatable and could wear the crown of the concerned title eternally. “You sound like you know someone who is worse than my husband's mistress!” Jasmine smirked. “Don't ask me about them! They can battle with the devil and come back unscathed. They possess a level of cruelty that could potentially cripple even the devil.” Mari exaggerated with wide

53"Can you forgive me, miss?" Mari batted her lashes in remorse. "What for?""For overwhelming you with my stupid assumptions! You've been severely hurt by your husband and I can see that you're struggling to get over the pain of his betrayal, and by wrongly assuming there was something between you and my boss, I probably put you in a miserable position and triggered your anxiety.""No, I'm okay." Jasmine lied. "Being mistreated by one man and then learning that another is interested in you while you're still healing— sounds painfully agonizing to me. And it's not okay! I truly feel pathetic. Please, forgive me." "Well, I'll forgive you if you help me fill my stomach." Jasmine pouted cutely. "I'm suddenly hungry." "My mother taught me her hometown's traditional dish! She cooked a delicious delicacy that Jasmine ate clumsily, spilling

52Jasmine's heart thudded violently in her chest. She felt as though a bucket of very very cold water was poured on her. "Are you insane? I'm sure there's something wrong with your observation. Your boss and I... It's impossible!" She exhaled, shocked and amazed, as she redirected her hazel eyes to the rabbits playing across from her. It's not like Jasmine hated hearing that. Kyle was a handsome and desirable man. If she were single with no brutal memories of a failed marriage, she would have lost her heart to him. Men like him were easily and quickly snatched from the market of bachelors. She would have done the same, but their relationship was a little... Complicated and it couldn't have a name. Damn, they didn't have a relationship in the first place! She was just a woman he saved, and from what she recalled about him— wasn't he a playboy who had a longggggg list of one night stands and ex-girlfriends?No, she definitely didn't intend to judge him because of his personal relati
