Isabel’s POV

The sterile scent of antiseptic fills my nostrils as my eyes flutter open, blinking against the light of the room. My gaze sweeps over the white walls, the bright fluorescent lights, and the dull silver fixtures—it’s unmistakable. A hospital room.

I turn my head slightly, the effort pulling a groan from my lips, and that’s when I see her. My mother. She’s seated beside me, her fingers trembling against the edge of the chair, her face a mask of worry and exhaustion.

“Mom…” I croak, trying to push myself upright, but the sharp pull of pain in my limbs forces me to pause.

“No, Isabel, don’t!” she exclaims, leaning forward, her hands reaching to stop me. “You don’t have to get up. Christine!” Her voice rises, sharp with urgency as she calls for Christine. “You need to rest. I’ll call the doctor now.”

“I’m fine,” I manage, though the weight in my chest says otherwise. I push against the mattress again, and this time, I manage to sit up, my head throbbing in protest. Just as I

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    102 In the quiet

Isabel’s POVThe air in the room feels heavier as my mother shifts slightly in her seat, her gaze following Alexander as he walks deeper into the room. Her face doesn’t reveal much—neutral as always—but there’s a flicker of unease, just enough for me to notice. She’s good at masking her feelings, but I know her well enough to sense her discomfort at seeing him here.Christine, ever efficient, nods almost immediately, slipping out of the room without a second thought. I watch her go, the click of her heels echoing softly before the door shuts behind her.Alexander stops a few feet away from where my mother sits. “Mrs. Montgomery,” he greets her, his tone formal but measured. My mother presses her lips into a thin line, her expression momentarily tightening as if debating what to say or do next. She clears her throat, her voice flat but laced with an attempt at politeness. “Thanks for bringing my daughter right on time to the hospital.” The words feel forced, her tone unable to mask the

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    103 It feels wrong

Alexander’s POVI stand outside the door, staring at the smooth wooden surface as if it holds the answers to my hesitation. Christine’s words echo in my head: She’s awake now.I should go in.I shouldn’t.The decision feels heavier than it should, like the air pressing against my chest. My hand brushes against the doorknob, then drops back to my side. Why the hell am I hesitating? It’s just a conversation—acknowledge she’s fine, exchange a few words, and leave. That’s it.Finally, I knock, the sound sharper than I intended, and push the door open. The stares hit me first. Mrs. Montgomery’s, cool and guarded, and Claire’s, fleeting yet piercing in its own way. The air shifts, weighted by their gazes. I push it down—the unease, the way my chest tightens. I’m here for a reason. Say what needs to be said and leave.“Mrs. Montgomery,” I greet, giving her a polite nod.Her lips press together in a faint line before she speaks. “Thank you for bringing Claire to the hospital.” Her words are m

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    104 Worst-case scenario

Alexander’s POVI step into the house, the heavy silence greeting me like an unwelcome guest. The hallway stretches before me, dimly lit, shadows clinging to the edges of the walls. My steps slow as I steady myself, bracing for what comes next. I know she’s here. I can feel her presence, like static in the air before a storm. And then I see her—Cynthia. Pacing the living room like a restless predator, her heels clicking against the floor in a rhythm that grates on my nerves. Her movements are sharp, deliberate, and when she spots me standing in the doorway, she freezes, her gaze locking onto mine.I sigh, the weight of her impending tirade already pressing down on me. I don’t have the energy for this. Not tonight. Not ever. Without a word, I start moving, intent on passing her without acknowledging her presence. But her voice stops me.“Alexander.”It’s sharp, cutting through the air like a blade. I halt, irritation bubbling beneath my skin. Of course, she wouldn’t let me go that easi

Isabel’s POVThe warmth of my morning coffee seeps through the ceramic mug, comforting my hands as I wander through the house in my flip-flops. The faint echo of my steps against the polished marble floors is my only companion until I catch sight of my mother in the living room, her posture straight, her lips pressed tight, phone in hand.“Claire,” she calls out, her tone clipped yet soft, the way she always does when she’s unsure how I’ll react. “It’s your dad. He wants to speak with you.”My heart skips, the mug trembling slightly in my grip. I force myself to swallow, but the unease creeps in. I glance at her, searching her face for an explanation, but she offers none, her shoulders lifting in a quick shrug as if to say, Don’t look at me. I don’t know. The last thing I remember is her promising not to tell him. And now this? My pulse quickens, but I manage a shaky breath, hurrying toward her. “Here,” she says, holding out the phone with a look that’s half-apology, half-encouragemen

Isabel’s POVThe room is calm, draped in warm lighting that bathes the sleek, modern studio in soft gold. A camera blinks its red recording light as I sit poised, hands resting lightly on my lap. Across from me, the announcer smiles, her polished tone directed toward the camera.“Welcome, viewers. Today, we have an extraordinary guest—Claire Montgomery, the CEO of LM Group.”Her voice carries admiration, and the words echo in the stillness of the studio. “Claire is known not only for her groundbreaking leadership but for her remarkable journey. Thank you for joining us today, Claire.”I return her smile, tilting my head gracefully. “Thank you for having me. It’s a pleasure to be here and share this time with you.”The announcer’s gaze softens as she leans forward slightly, speaking with sincerity. “Your story is nothing short of incredible. To reconnect with your family after so many years, knowing they searched tirelessly for you… How does that feel?”I take a steadying breath, my fi

Alexander’s POVI glare at Susan, waiting for her to explain herself. Her shoulders stiffen as she begins, “Sir…” She pauses, takes a deep sigh, and continues cautiously, “We received a message that you had requested the cancellation of the order and to stop the shipment.”Her voice wavers slightly, but the words hit me like a blow.“What?” I voice out, the single word carrying enough weight to silence the thoughts swirling in my head. I feel an ache of distress tightening in my chest. What the fuck are they playing at? I was expecting delays at worst—not a cancellation.I scoff, frustration and anger simmering. “What the hell do you mean by that, Susan?” My voice is sharp, slicing through the tense air.Susan places a tablet forward with trembling hands. “It’s the message, sir,” she says, her words faltering as I snatch the device. The screen shows the message. It’s from me—or at least, it looks like it’s from me. My grip tightens around the edges of the tablet as the realization sin

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    108 Coincidence Or?…

Cynthia’s POVI sit up on the bed, my mind replaying Claire’s words from earlier at the school, her voice smooth yet laced with an edge. With that infuriating smile of hers, she said, “Let’s be clear, Cynthia. It’s always better to know where you stand. You wouldn’t want to make an enemy of me—not when I can make things… difficult.” The smile on her face never wavered, but the words lingered, carrying a weight I couldn’t ignore.Pushing my hair back, I think about the way she glared at me, her expression a clear message: she was in control now. The memory tightens my chest, my irritation building with every passing second. I couldn’t even defend my daughter, not when the partnership between our foundations had just been announced. As someone with a high profile, I couldn’t afford a public spectacle, but the restraint burned.“Shit,” I mutter, running my hand through my hair again, the gesture harsher this time. Next time, I won’t stay quiet and let her rub it in my face as if I’m supp

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    109 How I want it

Isabel’s POVChristine stands before me, her hands neatly clasped behind her back, her tone measured but laced with quiet frustration. “Ma’am, there’s been no progress on identifying the masked man. No leads, no trace—nothing concrete to go on so far.”I lean back into my leather chair, letting her words hang in the air like a weight I can’t shake off. The sound of my pen scraping against the smooth surface of my desk breaks the silence, a small action, yet it somehow eases the tension in the room. I focus on that small distraction, letting it calm the ever-growing unease swirling in my mind. How is it possible for someone to vanish completely, without even a hint, a whisper of where they’ve gone? It doesn’t make sense, but I can’t let it show. Not yet.I tilt my head slightly, my gaze narrowing on Christine. She’s always been loyal, but there’s something in her demeanor today that feels different—more uncertain. I can see it in the way she avoids eye contact, the slight hesitation

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    206 Finding Her

Alexander’s POVIt’s not just her beauty. It never was. It’s the way she carries herself. Regal, yet detached. That air of quiet defiance, like she doesn’t need to try—like she was born to own every damn space she walks into. Even now, standing in the center of this glittering hall with eyes trailing after her like moths to flame, I still can’t figure her out. And I hate that about her.I tell myself I feel nothing but anger toward her. But the moment I see her—just one glance—and I lose grip.My eyes flick, without permission, to the slit in her dress. Her skin catches the light like satin, a soft shimmer that holds my gaze longer than it should. My attention moves to her lips—watching the way they move as she speaks to someone across the room. I know every curve of those lips, every silent message they used to send me.I drag my eyes away, clenching my jaw as I shake my head.Damn it.I curse under my breath, angry at myself. At this weakness. She shouldn’t still have this effect on

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    205 Make the move

Isabel’s POVAs we take our seats, I glance around the room, soaking in its glow.Crystal chandeliers hang like stars above a sea of curated beauty—fashion elites, influencers, designers, journalists. All gathered for LM Fashion’s latest showcase. Velvet drapes in the brand’s signature maroon shade frame the wide runway, sleek and gleaming beneath the spotlight. The air smells of roses, ambition, and a hint of tension that only those like me can sense.Roy sits beside me, his shoulder brushing mine slightly, his quiet presence grounding. Across the table, my mother, Victoria Montgomery—still poised as ever—leans in to whisper something to Grace, who gives a soft chuckle in return. They look relaxed. Pleased. The calm before the wave.I glance up—my eyes drawn to the opposite table where the night’s showstoppers sit.Aurora.She looks like she belongs here: regal in black, her hair pinned back with delicate crystal clips that shimmer under the soft lighting. Beside her, Richard looks d

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    204 Risked and Ready

Isabel’s POVIt’s been two weeks since the fall. Two weeks since I cornered Cynthia and made it painfully clear just how much she stands to lose if she ever dares to come for me again. I didn’t need to raise my voice. Just facts, laid bare like knives on silk. I showed her the cracks in her perfect little world—one by one. Her reputation? Hanging by a thread. Her false sense of security in that house? Dismantled. Her place in the industry? Already slipping through her manicured fingers. And that was just the beginning.Because losing her foundation is only the first drop on the rollercoaster I’ve strapped her into.Next comes the descent.I’m going to make her stay at the King’s mansion a living hell. A place so cold, so hostile, even the walls will reject her. I want her to feel the weight of being truly hated—not just by me, but by everyone that matters in that house. Especially Sabrina. The anger in Sabrina’s eyes when she looks at Cynthia now? It’s sharp. Raging. I’ve stoked the f

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    203 Held, not hurt

Isabel’s POVI struggle to loosen my arm from Alexander’s grip, tugging harder even as his fingers dig into my skin like claws desperate to stay tethered. My chest heaves from the pressure, my throat tight with restrained fury.“Let go,” I hiss, but he doesn’t budge. Not until the door swings open. And then… I see him.Roy.He’s standing there, still, shoulders broad, presence commanding. But it’s his eyes that speak volumes. The intensity in his gaze, the way it flickers from me to Alexander’s hold on my arm—it’s enough to make Alexander go still too.In seconds, Roy strides forward. I feel a rush of relief as he reaches us, his hand locking around Alexander’s wrist. His grip is firm. Steady. Without hesitation, he peels Alexander’s hand away from me, forcing him to let go.“How dare you touch her,” Roy growls, his voice low and rough, seconds before his fist crashes into Alexander’s jaw.The blow is fast, brutal. Alexander stumbles back, nearly losing balance but catches himself jus

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    202 Stage regrets

Alexander’s POVCameras flash like lightning across a stormy sky, the air thick with tension. I stand there, jaw set, the words already rehearsed in my head—but still, I can’t believe Isabel is making me do this.A public apology.God.But as my mother said earlier this morning, “If getting low is the only way to gain control, then get low. We’ll crawl beneath her feet if we must—until we’re ready to rise and flip her world upside down.”And when we do, it’ll be her turn to choke on regret.I inhale sharply through my nose, straighten my shoulders, and speak to the press with a calm I barely feel. Then it comes—the reporter’s question. His voice cuts through the buzz.“We see that your wife, Cynthia Castillo, has indeed offended Miss Claire Montgomery by releasing her private affairs without consent… but what we don’t know is—why? Do you mind telling us why she did so?”My fist tightens.Jaw clenched. My eyes flick toward Cynthia where she sits at the corner of the stage, legs crossed

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    201 One frame

Isabel’s POVI’m in the middle of a quick briefing with the heads of each department for the upcoming fashion show, everyone huddled around the oval table in my office. Swatches are being passed, digital models flicker across screens, and fabric samples are laid out like cards at a poker game. I’m about to ask a question about lighting when Christine slides in quietly, pressing her hand against the glass door.“Ma’am,” she says, voice low but urgent, “someone is here to see you. He said it’s important.”My brow furrows. “Who is it?”She hesitates.I dismiss the team with a nod. “We’ll pick this up later. Keep working as planned.”They file out, murmuring to one another, a few casting curious glances over their shoulders. The last door click hasn’t even faded when the knob turns again—and in walks the least person I ever expected.Carl Edward. His presence draws an immediate scoff from my lips. I arch a brow, half-surprised, half-irritated. He looks almost the same—tailored charcoal su

  • Ex-husband’s Regret: Revenge So Sweet    200 Not same anymore

Isabel’s POVI barely make it through the door before my mother rushes toward me, her heels clacking against the floor.“Claire, dear, what happened?” she asks, worry laced in every word. She doesn’t wait for an answer. Her hands gently guide me to the couch, pressing me down to sit as though I might shatter if left standing.I stay still. My body might be here, but my mind keeps flicking back to Cynthia’s words earlier—family secrets. What could she be referring to?Is this one of her usual mind games? She knows exactly how deeply things like this get to me. And that’s what makes it worse. Is she just toying with me again? Or… is there actually something I don’t know?I stare at the polished floor, my brows slightly furrowed, thoughts tangled. It wouldn’t be the first time she used manipulation to shake me—but something about her tone today… it didn’t sound like a bluff.I glance up slowly, meeting my mother’s expectant eyes.Should I go on to ask?But why do I feel like even if I do,

Alexander’s POVI sit slouched in my chair, head resting against the high back, rocking slightly as the chair creaks beneath me. My fingers tap a pen rhythmically on the table, a steady beat that contrasts the chaos in my mind.“Be prepared to go down with Cynthia.”Isabel’s voice plays on a loop in my head. I don’t know why, but it’s the way she said it—with quiet certainty—that unsettles me. She’s not bluffing. That much I know. The door bursts open.I sit up instantly as my mother storms in like a woman who’s just been ripped out of a nightmare—wild eyes, stiff shoulders, hands trembling by her side.“What was she doing here?” she demands, jerking her thumb back toward the hallway. “She was just here. Isabel. And she—” Her voice falters, lips trembling.I stand slowly. “What?”“She spoke to me like I was nothing. Can you believe how she spoke to me? She even accused me of wishing her dead!”Her chest rises and falls fast, anger mixed with fear pouring from her in sharp breaths. “Sh

Aria POVThe moment I step into the LM Group building, I can feel it—the air is tense, buzzing with something unspoken. It’s in the way the receptionists glance nervously at each other, in the hushed footsteps of employees scurrying past, trying not to draw attention. But it’s when I step further inside that I spot her.Cynthia.She stands like she owns the damn place, as always. Her shoulders back, head high, the kind of look that screams drama cloaked in luxury. A slow, knowing smile tugs at the corner of my lips. Of course she’s here. Probably to pull one of her usual stunts—perform for the gallery like she hasn’t already been exposed. But who would still be sane, knowing just how close they are to losing everything?I barely had to do anything. And yet… now she’s standing right in the middle of her downfall, finally receiving the punishment she deserves. That thought comforts me—for a second.Until I see her turn toward Isabel.I can’t hear what she says, but I see it happen.
