Annabel's POV
"Let me go!" I screamed as I thrashed around on the hospital bed, my hands and feet were bound. I looked around as sweat poured down my face. There were doctors and nurses cladded in white and it seemed that they were preparing for a surgery. "Who the hell are you?!" I screamed my lungs out in fright, "Why am I here?! Fucking let me go!" But none of them paid attention to me. They were focused on setting the surgical instruments. My breath became ragged and heavy. The last thing I remembered was being alone with Michelle in the room. I have no idea how I appeared on this hospital bed. My gaze fell outside while I screamed for help and my eyes widened when I recognized the faces of my father-in-law and mother-in-law. Hope flushed inside my heart. "Mom! Dad! Please get me out of here!" I screamed. However, Mr Davis and his wife Vivian scoffed and walked into the hospital room so casually. They smiled down at me but it wasn't the usual kind of smile. It was one full of contempt, it sent shivers down my spine. "Didn't you stick your nose in my business, Annabel?" Mr Davis said to me with eyes as dark as the devil's, "Didn't I warn you not to cross paths with me, huh?" I bit my lower lip to stop the tears from falling. Only few weeks ago I'd stumbled upon hushed tones. They were that of Mr Davis and his cohorts planning the murder of an associate. I was not so lucky and got caught. He threatened me not to say a word but it haunted me all night. I spoke to Scott, my husband, about it but he thought it was a joke. He could never believe that his father is a murderer. "You..you had to tell my son even after I warned you, Annabel!" Mr Davis muttered through clenched teeth. Tears fell from my eyes as I whispered, "I can't let you kill an innocent man." Both of them laughed at me like I'd gone mad. Vivian, my mother-in-law placed a hand on my belly. "No," I cried even harder, that was my child. Mine and Scott's. "Please..don't.. I promise I won't say a word about it anymore! Please.. I'd do anything. Please don't hurt my child!" "No," Mr Davis said to me, "I'll have to teach you a lesson so next time, you won't think I'm bluffing!" "No..no please!" I cried and screamed, thrashing on the hospital bed, "It's... it's your grandchild! How..how could you be so cruel?!" Vivian tucked her dark hair behind her ears. I should have known...I thought inwardly. She is Mr Davis' second wife and the mother to his second son. She is Scott's stepmother and so she has no blood relation to the child in my womb. She came across as a loving and wonderful mother when in fact she is a treacherous snake! "Relax, it won't take long." she whispered as she caressed my face and I watched them walk out of the room, leaving me to my fate. My crying and shouting did nothing to make the doctors have pity on me. They wheeled their surgical instruments towards my bed and dimmed the light in the room. "No..no!" I sobbed, "Please don't harm my child! Please let me go, I am begging you!" But they picked up a syringe and pierced it through my arm. I gave a yelp as it worked it way down my veins. "Please.." I begged as I lost consciousness gradually, "Please...don't." * * * When I opened my eyes, I was in an entirely different room. Sharp pains coursed through my entire body and I felt stiff until warm hands held mine. I opened my eyes and met the eyes of the only man my heart beats for. He held my hand and kissed my knuckles. His enchanting greenish gold eyes held a sought of pain that I could not understand. When I looked further across the room I saw the entire Davis' family around my bed weeping. I sat up abruptly with the help of Scott. I looked back at him and it was then I saw the dried tears on his cheeks. "What's.. what's happening?" I questioned as I looked from faces to faces for an answer. I did not quickly remember what happened hours ago. "Annabel-" Nathan, the second son of Mr Davis, etched closer to my bed. It gave me an uneasy feeling, my heart began to beat rapidly. "Can someone answer me?" my voice broke, "What is happening?!" Still, everyone maintained silence. My gaze fell on Michelle's hands around my husband's arm. She pretended to be weeping, but I could see through her lies. Michelle was betrothed to Scott before I met him. However, when we fell in love Scott chose to be with me. "I'm so sorry, Annabel," Michelle said as she blew her nose into the tissue, "The doctors tried their best!" What is she talking about? I looked around even more confused. However when I connected to the smirk on the corner of Mr Davis' lips every memory of hours ago rushed into my head. Michelle had made me unconscious.. I'd woken up tied to a bed..I gasped suddenly as my hand went to my belly. I held it while looking down, feeling for my eight months old baby but I felt...EMPTY. "My child..my baby.." I began to wince as I held my belly tighter trying to feel a movement, hoping against hope that the memories was just all a dream. "Annabel," Scott held my hand and I lifted my gaze to meet his teary filled eyes. He said, "We lost her. We lost our child."Annabel's POV “No!” I screamed, moving towards them but Davis’ fingers clutched the trigger tightly. He grinned as he said, “One more step and I promise you, I'll blow her brains out.”I shook my head, “No, please.”“Ah, you're begging now?” Davis cackled triumphantly, “What happened to the tough Annabel who was bent on bringing me down?”“....” Words failed me. My children and sister are in danger and in the hands of terrible people.“Dad.” Scott calmly stepped forward.“I said, not another step closer!” Davis barked, eyes red and wide open. “I have nothing to lose you know, Michelle here ruined my life in seconds. She pulled down everything I have worked hard for. “I thought of the best way to get back at her and Christopher provided an easy means. I knew she'll go to him today so I waited for her and she confirmed my thoughts.”Michelle sobbed.“I captured her, had her tortured..” Davis paused, intensifying his gaze on Myron whose earlier calm composure had turned into a furious
Annabel's POV They had the guns pointed at each other, and I— in the middle — did not know what to do. “No, please. Put your guns away!” I screamed as I stared at both men.“Seems like this is where it all ends.” Myron said, smirking.“For you.” Scott added and turned to me, “I've been calling you, Annabel. What's wrong?”The tears were too much for me to speak, the sobs caught in my throat.Scott pulled me close, I saw Myron's finger move to the trigger.“What's wrong? Did he hurt you? Tell me!”I shook my head and sobbed, “The kids..”He blinked and then placed me behind him while still aiming the gun at Myron.“Where are the kids?” He demanded, muscle tight, face red with anger.I did not want to imagine what would happen next. Scott rarely gets mad. In fact, I've never seen him mad.Even when he divorced me years ago, his face never held this much anger. It seemed that he was fed up with Myron.“You're not supposed to be here, Scott.” Myron said casually like he could not sense
Annabel's POV “Myron.” I called as I stepped into the room, “Where are my children?”Without turning to me, he answered in a calm voice, “What were you trying to do, Annabel?”I gritted my teeth, anger boiling inside of me.“Don't you fucking spill my name from those lips of yours!” I yelled, half losing my mind. “Tell me where my kids are right now, Myron or I will involve the police.” “Go ahead and try.” He lifted his head just then, “I won't stop you Annabel. I think the best way to tame you is to let you make your choice.”My face twisted into a confused look. He rose and stepped out of the shadows, still flickering the lighter.“With every wrong decision you make, you'll suffer the consequences.” He said to me, “Involve the police and you'll never see your children again. I'll disappear like I never existed and so will your kids.”I chuckled, trying to remain brave, “Disappear? Why do you think there is the FBI, CIA and detective agency? All they need is your name and airport
Annabel's POV Dead silence. My heart raced as I tossed my handbag and climbed the stairs, whispering prayers and hoping that the thoughts in my head weren't true.I placed my hand on the knob and pushed the door open silently. Upon stepping in, I heaved a sigh of relief. My babies were there on their beds, fast asleep with a peaceful look on their faces.I placed a kiss on their foreheads and turned to leave. Immediately I shut the door, a deep voice came from behind.Frightened, I turned and gasped. It was Myron, staring down at me with eyes as dark as the night. His looks were suspicious.“What are you doing here and why's the color draining from your face?” he asked.“I came to check on the children.” I answered and added, “Shouldn't you be asleep? What are you doing sneaking up behind me?”He smirked, “Sleep? How can I sleep when my wife wants to leave me?” I stiffened, “What?”He leaned against the door, “I hope you've changed your mind about the divorce, Annabel.”“Else, you'l
Michelle's POV I sat on the kitchen table while Justicia prepared breakfast for me. She was bubbly and happy, explaining how my sister appeared worried over me. “I think she's forgiven you already, ma’am.” She said, “She looked as if she'd jump on you the second she found you.” She tossed the scrambled egg on the pan with a smile on her face as she spoke of how glad she is that my relationship with my sister was finally repairing itself. “Do you think she realized that she needed you?” She asked. I sighed and said, “I think my divorcing Scott softened her heart towards me.” Justicia looked at me. I shrugged, “She loves him and knowing that I took him away from her, and married him makes it impossible for her to have forgiving thoughts.” “I divorced him, so it became easier for her to forgive me.” Justicia shook her head, “Try not to see it that way, dear. It is possible that she genuinely decided to forgive you without having anything to do with Scott.” I shook my head,
Vivian's POVThe door was broken down, two seconds after that.I screamed and stepped back, crashing into the dinner table and causing my phone to fall to the ground, and switching off.Two huge men stepped in with a bat in their hands, followed by George. His face was not visible as he wore a face cap but his frame was more than obvious.I could recognize him yards away.“George.” I whispered and tried not to look scared. One of the men grabbed me and forced me towards the main room where George had already sat on the chair with his face cap off his head.“Don't touch me!” I yelled to the guard but his first tightened the more.“George..I..I was thinking of a way to save you. You have no idea how I've been restless over your being in jail. I was cooking up a plan to get you out.”I added, “I'm sorry it took this long.”He turned to me just then. His expression was cold and nonchalant. I did not want to imagine how he left jail or even found me because it seemed that he had become eve
