Annabel's POV
"What?" my lips hanged open, "You can't be serious, Scott!" "I am." he confirmed his words, adding, "My wife cannot take my father to court and I would not lift a finger." "Don't make me choose between you and our daughter! I am doing this for her!" I gritted my teeth as tears threatened to fall. "No, I think you've lost your mind and since you've refused to come to your senses let's see whether you'll lose me as well." he said and walked out of the dinner table with Michelle following behind him. Nathan got up and left as well, leaving I and Mr Davis and Vivian who chuckled softly. "Haven't you done enough, Annabel?" she grinned "You're starting to look mentally ill." "I won't stop until I have exposed you both." I retorted. Mr Davis rose from his chair and stopped in front of me. "You're done grieving your mother and daughter so quick?" he asked as he lit a cigarette, "Stop this now, Annabel." "No, you started this." I paused and added, "I'll end it." Mr Davis closed the distance between us and said, "After what has happened, you still dare to go against me?" He continued, "Who do you want to lose next? Your sister?" My brows shot up and I replied, "I do not have a sister." Mr Davis and Vivian glanced at each other and laughed. Without another word they left me standing there, confused. ... It was a day before the court proceedings. Mr. Jaggers had asked that I find some evidence to help us secure a win. I came out of my room at noon and found the whole house quiet. They must have gone to the company. Now would be the best time to search Mr. Davis' study for anything that could help me. I got into his study and began to ransack through the files and shelves. An old slip fell out of nowhere. The rusty texture caught my attention and I picked it up and stared at it. It was an autopsy report. Why would Mr Davis keep an autopsy report? I scrolled through it. Name- Elizabeth Davis Relation- Wife Cause of death- Suffocation I gasped. The owner of this autopsy report is Scott's mother and Mr Davis' first wife. Scott told me she had fallen ill and died a natural death, it was what his father had told him however right here on my hand is the real truth. She was suffocated. She was murdered and I'm damn sure it would be the doing of Mr Davis and Vivian. I returned to my room and could not wait for nightfall. I rushed to Scott's room when I was sure he was back. "What are you doing here?" he demanded furiously as he pulled off his tie and kicked off his shoes. I stepped further into the room, ignoring his indifference. "I came to prove my innocence to you." I answered, looking away from his thick abs and chest. He ran his hand through his hair, "If you're gonna act crazy, you should leave." "It's about your mother, Scott." He turned to me sharply, his olive eyes brightened. "What are you talking about? My mother's been dead, Annabel." "I found this," I gave to him, "- in your father's study." I heard footsteps behind me and then Nathan poked his head through the door and was surprised to see me with Scott. He walked into the room. "I see you both are making up." he smiled and stopped by Scott, "What are you looking at?" Nathan exclaimed, "Whose report is this?" "It's Scott's mother," I answered, "I found it in Mr Davis' shelf. He lied to you. She did not die a natural death. She was murdered." I waited, hoping for him to say something. Most of all to pull me into that muscular chest and tell me that he believes me. But none of that happened. He simply tossed the paper on his bed and said, "Get out of my sight, Annabel." "B-but, Scott?" "I didn't think you would stoop this low. I have lost all respect for you, Annabel!" "Scott -" "Leave!" his voice reverberated through my body, "I hope you've called off the case, Annabel. If not prepare for our divorce!" I stood there, rooted to the spot, staring at the man my heart beats for. The man who had once made me the happiest person on earth. "I said leave!" he repeated but I remained. I don't know why, but my feet didn't want to obey me. He strode to me, grabbed my arm and helped me to the door. He pushed me out and slammed the door shut on my face. I cried myself to sleep and prepared for the court case the next morning. The Davis' were already on seat when I arrived. I greeted my lawyer who smiled at me warmly and the case began. Mr Davis hired the best lawyer for he handled the first part of the case expertly. My lawyer tried his best however the Judge felt that without evidence my claim would remain invalid. I took to the witness box and narrated what had happened that night and how I came across the real report of late Mrs Elizabeth Davis. We were winning when suddenly the Judge asked to authenticate the autopsy report and I realized, to my horror, that I'd forgotten the autopsy report with Scott. From the witness box, I called out to him. "Scott please come out here and tell the court of the autopsy report I'd shown you yesterday!" "My Lord," I said, "Please pardon me. I forgot the report with Scott!" "If the mentioned person can testify to that and by tomorrow, present this report and the report is authenticated then we will consider looking into Governor Davis' case!" declared the Judge. Happiness like a river flooded through me. I'm finally avenging my mother and daughter's death! I watched Scott step out. I was glad! At least he was believing in me! I saw the horrific look on Mr Davis' face and I felt triumphant already. I stepped out of the box for Scott to take place. Our fingers brushed and I felt the spark I felt the first time we met. "Your honor!" Scott began, "I did not receive any autopsy report from THIS WOMAN.." My whole world came crashing down..Annabel's POVI rushed towards the witness box, "No, Scott! Don't you dare lie!""Order!" the Judge's voice boomed and the policemen grabbed my arm and restrained me from holding unto Scott.Tears coursed out of my eyes as I screamed, "Your honor, he's lying!""Mr Jaggers!" the Judge roared, "Control your client or I'll have to have her dragged out of the courtroom!""Please Annabel," Mr Jaggers came to me but I could not stop weeping. I was so close to victory, so close to avenging my daughter and mother's death."Why..why is he doing this to me?" I cried against his chest, "I am fighting for us, why doesn't he understand?""Let the proceedings continue," the Judge declared and I turned to Scott standing tall and extremely handsome in the witness box.He continued, "Since I and my wife lost our child, Your Honor, she has not been well. I tried to get a therapist to see her because I know the pain that comes with losing a child but she refused my help. Her hallucinations has become so
Scott's POVThe doctors did not let me through the hospital room no matter how much I pleaded. I remained outside, pacing and panicking. I'd overreacted and I cursed myself for that. I turned and found my dad and stepmom walking towards me. Before they could get to me, I walked hastily towards my dad, grabbed his collar and hit him hard against the wall."Are you happy now?!" I shouted as I gritted my teeth, "How do you feel making me do all of this, you bastard?!" "Stop it, Scott!" cried Vivian, "He's your father!"Calling this inhumane and selfish man my father only aggravated the anger I felt in my heart. I tightened my grip on his collar."I curse the day you became my father!" I said to his face but this man simply laughed and stared at me like all that anger meant nothing. He said, "Do you not want to see your daughter and your dear Annabel again?"Upon hearing that, I let go off his collar as much as I hated to."Good boy," he nodded while grinning, "So shove all that anger d
Annabel's POVI was wheeled into the theatre while I heard Scott screaming for the doctor to let him in. After much talking, they finally shut the door on his face."Ahh.." I screamed as I bit on my lower lips to ease the pain. I felt a syringe go into my arm and few moments later, the pain gradually reduced. "Don't worry," the female doctor casually rested her hand on my arm, "You'll be fine."I saw the nurses prepare for scan. I looked around confused and said to the doctor, "What's wrong with me?"She smiled softly and answered, "You're two months pregnant dear and you need to pay extra care to your children's health."I squeezed my face as the nurses lifted my shirt and pressed the scan instrument on my belly.I asked the doctor, "Children??"She nodded as she ordered the nurses to pull the monitor closer for me to see. My lips parted as I watched two little foetus developing inside of me. "I can't tell you their sex yet but I could guess you'll be having fraternal twin, Mrs Dav
Annabel's POV"That was quick!" said Mr Davis as he stopped few meters away from where I stood, he smirked, "You should use this opportunity to help yourself to the rehab center, Annabel."I chuckled despite myself, "That is where you will be in the future, Mr Davis. In fact if you ask me, the likes of you should rot in hell instead of a rehab center."He waved his hand in the air with a grin, "I have more important things to do than stand here and argue with a divorcee."He turned around with Vivian following behind like a puppet. He said, "C'mon Scott, let's go get you ready."I wondered, ready for what?My gaze fell on Scott as he followed behind. Suddenly, he stopped and looked back just in time to see the tears forming in my eyes.I was not ashamed of it. I wasn't also willing to hide it. I wanted him to see how much he's hurting me and remember this look when I eventually get my revenge.A part of me hoped he would apologize and tell me once again how much he adores me. Howeve
Annabel's POV."Are you Annabel Davis?" I lifted my gaze to find a man on mask. He was dressed in a blue suit and through his mask, I could see his ocean eyes that deeply complimented his suit.About 6ft tall with the hair similar to Scott's jet black, this stranger's features are well built and muscular except I couldn't see his face. What is he doing outside the Davis' property? Considering the fact that I was looking into my phone, I couldn't see where he came from.Tucking my phone behind me, I demanded, "Who are you and how do you know my name?" He slipped his hand into his pocket and answered calmly, "I'm just an unfortunate person like you. As for your name, who doesn't know you after the court case?""You seem to have been tailing me, whoever you are."Despite the mask on his face, I could bet that he was smirking when he said, "Let's get your arm treated before all of this unnecessary exchange.""Unnecessary?" I repeated, stopping him in his track, "You expect me to trust a
Annabel's POV"Let me go!" I screamed as I thrashed around on the hospital bed, my hands and feet were bound. I looked around as sweat poured down my face. There were doctors and nurses cladded in white and it seemed that they were preparing for a surgery."Who the hell are you?!" I screamed my lungs out in fright, "Why am I here?! Fucking let me go!"But none of them paid attention to me. They were focused on setting the surgical instruments. My breath became ragged and heavy. The last thing I remembered was being alone with Michelle in the room. I have no idea how I appeared on this hospital bed.My gaze fell outside while I screamed for help and my eyes widened when I recognized the faces of my father-in-law and mother-in-law. Hope flushed inside my heart."Mom! Dad! Please get me out of here!" I screamed. However, Mr Davis and his wife Vivian scoffed and walked into the hospital room so casually. They smiled down at me but it wasn't the usual kind of smile. It was one full of cont
Annabel's POVMy belly churned and squeezed inside of me as I sucked in air, unable to believe what I just heard. All of this has to be some kind of dream, I need me to wake up.Disconnecting the IV needle from my hand with so much force, sent blood rushing uncontrollably out of my hand."Annabel!" Scott was beside me in a jiffy but the pain was nothing compared to the one I felt in my heart. I stepped out of bed."No.." I cried, "It can't be..no, we didn't lose her Scott! She was...she was right here," I held my belly while I sobbed, "She was okay..waiting to be born in a month's time."Scott moved a step towards me, fearing that I might do something crazy."Annabel please..please calm down. We..we have to be strong. We have-"I shook my head vehemently as my gaze fell on the surgical instruments I'd seen the night before. I pushed everything to the ground while screaming my lungs out."Noooooo!! My poor child!!! Oh God..please no!!" hot tears streamed down my cheeks, "It's not true
Annabel's POVI woke up the next day feeling weak and drained. I had lost a lot of blood when I pulled the IV needle and the pain in my heart was too much for me to bear. I still can't believe that I'd lost both my mother and my child.Even though she is not my biological mother, Mrs King took me into her home and raised me with the love and care that a mother would give her child. I owe her my life. I owe her everything and that's why it hurts even more."You're awake," Scott said as he lowered himself and came in for a kiss but I looked away. He straightened up and said, "Do you feel okay? Do you want me to call the doctor?"I looked at him with tears shimmering in my eyes, "Why won't you believe me? Have I ever lied to you, Scott?""Annabel please!" he moved away from me, "It's already hard for me to cope with the death of our child. Stop making this more difficult. Dad has nothing to do with all this. Why are accusing him?"I stood up from the bed and even though my legs wobbled,
