The Truth Between Us

(Mira’s POV)

I held the picture tightly, my heart pounding as I looked at Alex. “When did you start having feelings for me?”

Alex took a deep breath, his eyes locked onto mine. “A long time ago.”

I swallowed. “How long?”

He stepped closer, his voice softer now. “Do you remember that event your family hosted when you were in college? A charity gala for your mother’s foundation?”

I frowned, trying to recall. There had been so many events back then, but as I searched my memory, a particular night came back to me.

I had been wearing a pale blue dress, my hair tied up in a neat bun. I had spent most of the evening helping my mother, making sure the guests were well taken care of. I remembered laughing with some of the workers, pouring drinks when the staff got overwhelmed, and my mother telling me I had too much energy for my own good.

I looked up at Alex. “You were there?”

He nodded. “I wasn’t supposed to be. Aaron dragged me along, but I was barely paying attention t

Aaron leaned back in his chair, his fingers drumming against the mahogany desk. His assistant stood before him, breathing heavily, looking terrified.“ You need to see this !”“What the hell is this about?” Aaron’s voice was low, but the edge of anger in it was undeniable. His assistant swallowed hard before pushing his phone toward him. “Sir, all the investors and board members are posting an invitation online. It has Mira’s seal on it.”Aaron’s eyes darkened as he snatched the phone. He scanned the invitation, and his jaw clenched. Mira was hosting a grand party , and she had invited every single one of his people—investors, stakeholders, and board members.“She’s playing games,” Aaron muttered under his breath. His grip tightened on the phone. Was this her way of challenging him? Of letting him know she was back in the game? The assistant took a cautious step back. “Sir, should I—”Before he could finish, Aaron’s other phone buzzed loudly. The screen flashed with an unknown number.

( Mira’s Pov)I leaned against the car door, watching the city lights blur past, but deep inside, my mind was still racing with everything that needed to be done.Aaron was still out there, walking free, breathing the same air as me, as if he hadn’t tried to kill me. It made my skin crawl. When we arrived at my house, Alex insisted on walking me inside. I didn’t argue. A part of me liked it—the way he wanted to make sure I got home safely, the way he never hesitated to be there for me.As soon as we stepped in, the first thing I noticed was Josh, fast asleep on the couch. His tiny frame was curled up under a light blanket, his chest rising and falling softly. The TV was still on, playing a low-volume cartoon.I sighed, shaking my head. This boy and his insistence that he doesn’t need a babysitter.“The babysitter already left,” I murmured, bending slightly to adjust the blanket over Josh.“He really doesn’t like having one, does he?” Alex chuckled, standing beside me.“He doesn’t,” I

She knew this wasn’t the time for words. When we finally arrived, I just sat in the car for a moment, staring at the gates.Nothing had changed. The tall, iron gates stood strong, the walls still carrying the same elegance they had before. Mira’s POVAaron must have destroyed the other cameras, but this one… he didn’t even know it existed. That was why he thought he had gotten rid of all evidence. But my parents had always been careful, always a step ahead. They had a control room—one hidden so well that even Aaron hadn’t found it. That’s why he never erased the footage. He had simply removed the cameras he could see, not knowing there was another system at play.I clenched my fists, excitement and nervousness twisting inside me. If this camera had been running all this time, it could have recorded everything from that night. It could have captured what really happened—the attack, the blood, the people involved. It could be the evidence I needed.“Mira?” Olivia called, noticing I had stopped.I snapped out of my thoughts and turned to her with a small smile. “I was just trying to remember something,” I lied. She raised a brow. “About what?”I hesitated. I had barely taken a few steps toward the car when I heard someone call my name.“Mira!”I turned just in time to see one of Aaron’s cousins rushing toward me. She was a little out of breath, her eyes darting around as if making sure no one was watching her. Before I could ask what was going on, she slipped a small piece of paper into my hand. “Call him,” she whispered urgently. “He has a lot you’d want to know.”I frowned and looked at the number scribbled on it. “Who is this?”She hesitated, glancing over her shoulder. “Someone who knows things about Aaron. Things you should know.”That caught my attention. “What kind of things?”She shook her head. “I don’t want to get involved. Just call him. • Ex-Wife Craves Revenge    A Warning

Mira’s POVThe morning of the family event came faster than I wanted. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have attended at all, but Aaron had sent a reminder message, probably hoping to intimidate me into showing up. I wasn’t the same woman he used to control. If anything, this was the perfect opportunity to make a statement.I focused on getting Josh ready first, helping him with his little tuxedo. “You look so handsome,” I said, adjusting his bow tie.Josh grinned. “I know,” he said confidently. “But why do I have to wear this? It’s too tight.”“Because it’s a formal event,” I said. “Besides, you match with Alex.”At that moment, Alex walked in, dressed in a sleek black tuxedo. He took one look at Josh, then at me, and smirked. “Did we all just decide to ignore the dress code?”I turned back to the mirror and admired my red dress. It was bold, fiery, and a complete rebellion against the expected white. “I guess so,” I said, shrugging. “White isn’t really my color.”Josh laughed. “Dad’s

I needed to talk to Alex.I found him in the living room, leaning back on the couch, his eyes glued to his phone. His usual calm was there, but I could tell something was bothering him. Maybe it was the pressure of everything happening with Aaron or the shadows from his past that still seemed to haunt him.“Hey,” I said softly, sitting next to him. “We need to talk.”He looked up at me, his gaze steady. “What’s going on?”I took a deep breath, my thoughts scattered. The weight of the situation had started to settle over me.I knew exactly what she meant. It felt too good to be true that these men—who had been a part of Aaron’s inner circle, who had supported him for so long—were suddenly on my side. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that if this was going to happen, I needed to take control and handle it the way I always did: strategically.“Olivia, show me the reports,” I said, my voice firm but calm. There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before Olivia responded. “Okay, I’ll have someone bring them to you.
