Nicole's POV

I looked at Matthew, who couldn't answer my question right away. He was silent, his mouth clamped shut, but with a troubled look behind the glasses he wore, I was sure that my question was the unspoken truth between us.

I snorted, then quickly stepped away to leave him. I couldn't believe she could lie to me like that. Even though it was trivial, I couldn't appreciate his actions that seemed to have fooled me for his own interests. I didn't think he was that kind of man.

"Nicole." He called my name at the same time as his hand held mine until my steps stopped in place. I didn't turn around, hearing his following words to me. "Sorry, you already know... I lied to you but did that because I still wanted to spend time with you."
