Nicole's POV

I was facing Matthew at my house. We were having a private lunch, just the two of us, in a room specially prepared by the servants. He opened the conversation first.

"I'm glad to see you again, Nicole."

He began to tell me about the days he did not see me. He missed me so much, wishing we could talk as usual, do activities together, or meet at the office or home when we had free time.

I could see the somber look on his face when he talked about how we hadn't been able to do any of that the past few days. He looked both distressed and pitiable when he looked at me again, like a puppy lacking attention from its owner since I was the one who said not to see him for a while.

I looked at her flatly, not understanding why she could say such a thing yet do the opposite by coming to my house repeatedly, even before this meeting between us happened.
