(Eve’s POV)

“Rosie, where are you?” I murmured worriedly, shifting my gaze to the clocks on the wall and then to my computer screen.

The phone kept ringing, but my daughter was not answering. She was supposed to fetch Isabella and Theo after her class at one, but their teacher called and informed me they were still in school. As usual, Jessy would not answer my call. My entire body was flooded with worry. It was already past four in the afternoon, and her little siblings were still in school. I could imagine the stress Mrs. Garcia was experiencing because she could not stop Theo from crying.

I sighed, turning off my computer and taking my bag to leave. I hoped Bob would not mind me going home early. I could continue reading the emails at home and send them to Callahan later.

It had been two weeks since I last saw Callahan. Bob mostly did my job as Cal’s secretary for the first week, giving me time to study the files. He pointed out the importance of knowing everything about the compan

(Eve's POV) “I didn’t see him, Eve,” Rudy sighed, glancing at me sadly before returning his eyes to the road. Poor Rudy told me what happened on their way to the company. He didn’t leave any single detail and showed me the video he got from the dashcam. Even if he didn’t tell me, I could imagine his heart pounding, afraid to lose his job for being an incompetent driver. He didn’t mention that part, but the sad looks on his face said he was worried about not driving Callahan tomorrow. “Rudy, you didn’t hit the guy. You said he fell while crossing. There must be other reasons why it happened,” I said, trying to comfort him. The dashcam proved he was telling the truth, but he seemed to be looking for an ally. Well, he had one. Bob was on his side. Maybe even Cal. He would have probably fired Rudy for being an incompetent driver immediately if it was his fault. “I love working as his driver,” he murmured, curving a melancholy smile as he stopped the car at the hospital’s driveway.

(Eve's POV)I thought it would take me forever to get home. The heavy traffic worsened my feelings, and as soon as the bus stopped, I could hardly move my legs. The driver had to help me get out of the vehicle and asked me many times to confirm if I didn’t really want to be taken to the hospital. I could not tell him I just came there. It was fifteen minutes to eight. Maybe it was okay and still early to get home at this hour for anyone in their prime. I was still in my prime, but as a mother of five kids, I felt guilty about being late. I should have been in the kitchen, preparing dinner for my family, not my eldest daughter.I let out a sigh and craned my neck to look up at the dark sky. The absence of the moon made the surroundings feel eerie and scary. I glanced over my shoulder to check out Wyatt's house, but no lights were on. It was no surprise since the porch lights of Moira's mansion were busted, and I had to rely on my neighbor's lights, which were also off. Wyatt must have

(Eve’s POV)“You’re worried?” I lifted a brow, meeting Callahan’s eyes.My eyes narrowed as I pinned my gaze on my gorgeous boss. What was in me that heaven loved picking up on me? To bully me for asking so much? I did not ask to be an instant millionaire. Just a reset in my life. Is this what they meant by the saying be careful what you wish for?I was given a chance to reset my life through Moira’s room, but it seemed to have a glitch. And now this! Earlier, my doctor told me of further tests and possible treatments for the tumor in my brain, but I was too crushed to grasp everything he said. All I knew was the great possibility that I could die like my grandmother and aunt, and l would leave my children alone in this world. When I went to the hospital chapel earlier, I prayed that if it were the will of God, I would accept it, but with a condition.‘Please find me a great and loving father to look after my children before I die.’If heaven weren’t making a joke, what were the three

(Eve's POV)A mother must be a good actress.Despite what I felt, I had to smile and laugh with them. Isabella saved us all in that awkward moment. She boasted about her good performance in class. Theo, her classmate in the same class, complained about the long hours in the classroom. In their previous school, it was a three-hour class, but in their new school, it was five hours.Cooper shared the same feelings with his brother, telling Ben and Wyatt how he hated his new school.“You should make friends,” Ben suggested. My son lowered his face and sighed. “I don’t like them.”“It’s okay, buddy,” Wyatt said cheerily. “You’ll find one soon,” he assured, sincerely smiling at my son.Cooper wrinkled his nose and shrugged. “I’d rather hang out with you,” he murmured, tearing his slice of pizza into two.“We can be best friends,” Wyatt offered.“I like that,” Cooper grinned, nodding and eating his food.My son focusing on food meant he did not want to share more, and what Wyatt had said was

(Eve's POV)I looked glumly at the time on my phone. It was ten after five in the afternoon, but I was still in the office.Bethany was meeting a client. Bob was on a business trip. Worse, Millicent came and spent the whole morning pestering me by doing little errands for her outside the office. It was not even related to my job. It seemed her job today was to keep me away from Callahan. My boss was okay with it, and if her little tasks for me didn’t require falling in line, I would like it, too. When I returned from the bank, the last of Millicent’s tasks for me, she was gone, but it was already one. I hoped to have a quick lunch, but Callahan exited his office before I could have a big bite of the sandwich Rosie prepared for me that morning. I bet my face turned crimson when my mouth was wide open, ready to devour the sandwich, at the same time he looked at me.Callahan frowned and sighed, but he did not say anything. He walked past me and headed to the elevator.‘Goodbye, baby!’ I

(Eve's POV)“This will only take a minute,” Bernard said, smiling sheepishly at me while placing the food container in the microwave.Bernard Smith lived in an all-white interior studio apartment with a calming and relaxing atmosphere, maybe because of the indoor plants that added a touch of nature to the ambiance. I found the place clean and neat for a man living on his own. Even the piles of papers on his desk near the bed were organized.“My hungry tummy can wait,” I chuckled, lifting a small picture frame on the side table. “Your sister?” I joked, betting the woman in the picture was his mother. The resemblance between him and the woman was hard to miss. I understood where he got his good looks. Their striking features were almost identical. I pressed my lips, suppressing a laugh as I thought of finding the female version of Channing Tatum.Bernard looked in my direction and smiled.“That great woman there? My mom. She’s an annoying but the best mom in the world,” he muttered lovi

(Cal’s POV)“Where’s Eve?”The high note in Millicent’s tone was enough to tell me she was unhappy. She entered my office, frowning while balancing the cups of coffee on a small tray. The sound of her high-heeled shoes clicking and clacking on the bare floor reminded me to contact the interior designer to install the carpet. Lately, I have been experiencing frequent headaches, and even small sounds that I barely noticed before would trigger them.“This isn’t my job, Cal!” She sneered, placing the coffee on my table. “I’m not your secretary.”“Argh! I’m glad,” I sighed in relief, almost rolling my eyes, but I did not look at her. Instead, I pretended to be busy reviewing the budget request for the next six months. My mind was preoccupied with thoughts and questions about my secretary. Last night, I had a strange dream about her. Since I woke up, I have been unable to stop thinking about Eve. It was intense. Sexy. Sensual.I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to connect my dream again.Eve c

(Cal’s POV)“What’s with you?” Millicent hissed annoyingly and glanced at the door closed. “Do you want Eve to sue you for harassment?”I didn’t answer. Instead, I focused on the food, not wanting to admit that I crossed the line. I shouldn’t have done it and thought about doing it to her. It was not real but a dream that could jeopardize my position.“What’s that? How did you get it?” Millicent muttered, copying my tone. She groaned and rolled her eyes, biting the steak on her fork. “Are you the only man she met in her life? She’s young…” She chewed her food, her excuse for thinking of the best way to attack me. “She’s a young widow -”I lifted a hand, glaring at her.It was enough cue for Millicent to get the message I didn’t want to talk about it. I sighed but continued to eat, not wanting to give her a chance to make fun of me again. I felt stupid, thinking it was not a dream. How could it have happened when I had a late online meeting last night, and she had two guests at home, a

(Eve’s POV)It was chaos, and then I realized it was just me.My hands were cold, and I could hardly think straight. The faint hum of machinery and the soft whispers of other patients created a backdrop of nervous anticipation. As to how we reached the hospital, everything was Callahan’s doing. We sat in the waiting area, patiently waiting for her to complete the CT scan.If Callahan hadn’t been there, I would have carried my children to the car and driven them to the hospital, but given the situation, after quickly assessing the situation, he said my youngest daughter mustn’t be moved from the ground. Isabella fell from the ladder she found in the garden in an attempt to save the kitten meowing from the tree. Theo tried to stop his little sister and went after her. Cooper was too late to pull them back.I turned my head slowly in his direction, glad that Rosie was there to comfort him, explaining over and over again it wasn’t his fault. Her brother was in shock, crying at his failur

(Eve’s POV)Me in his arms. And him inside me…I swallowed hard, feeling the fire spreading through my core to every part of my body. Although Callahan had no recollection of what happened, the drugs seemed to be stuck in my blood.“Eve?”My eyes blinked rapidly, waking me up from daydreaming. “Huh?”“I’ve no choice, Eve,” he said, showing his phone screen. “My driver’s already in your place, so…” He tilted his head, his eyebrows raised.A nervous chuckle escaped my mouth. “Of course.” Just the car, not me. This whole thing of repeating days was causing me paranoia. I breathed and nodded briefly. “Let’s go.” I turned around, hiding my flustered face.“Where did you go?” he asked, walking beside me.“Just…” I pursed my lips, pausing for a second. “It’s personal.”“Okay,” he said, opening the door for me and letting out a frustrated sigh. “Let’s grab a bite before going to your place.”I stopped walking; my eyebrows raced as I turned to him. “We had just coffee.”“Something to eat, Eve.

(Eve’s POV)“Your face,” Bethany said, hovering her index finger on her face. “Don’t look at me like that, Eve.” She groaned and stood up. “I need coffee.”I expected Callahan to pour out questions, but he didn’t. Instead, he leaned on the backrest and closed his eyes. Stress and exhaustion were visible on his face, but I was afraid to talk… to ask. He might wonder what I was doing there when I texted him earlier, telling him I wouldn’t go to work because something came up and I had to leave home with my kids. Looking at him, I wondered what happened to him when he suddenly disappeared in the hallway.“Stop staring at me, Eve,” he murmured, opening one eye and sighing deeply as if the world fell on him. His lips slightly curved into a smile. “If you didn’t send that message, I was probably in your place.”My face flushed, and suddenly, I felt hot. I swallowed hard, remembering what happened to us last night. It was insane and intense. If only we had more time, I would let him do whate

(Eve’s POV)“Why are we so early?” Cooper slid into the passenger seat and buckled his seatbelt. He stifled a yawn and rubbed his eyes as he asked. “School starts -”I cut him off immediately. “Because…” I paused, pretending to busy myself with my seatbelt. “I’m leaving early for work, but I want to make sure you’ll have a good breakfast before going to school,” I lied, glancing at my two younger kids. “What do you want for breakfast?”Theo seemed not to mind the time. He leaned immediately on his seat and closed his eyes while Isabella’s gaze was outside the window.I let out a weary sigh, trying to shake off the lingering fatigue as I focused on starting the engine. Since midnight, I didn’t sleep. I couldn’t. It felt weird having Callahan around five minutes before twelve and then… Poof! He vanished without a trace. The low rumble filled the air, vibrating through the surrounding silence. I glanced over, smiling, and hoped to lift their mood. Seeing the uninterested looks of my chil

I think I’m still dreaming,” I murmured, returning his smile but wishing Callahan would decline and leave my bedroom.A smile flashed across his lips while his hand groped upward, stopping at my thigh. “It’s late.”“Yeah.” I couldn’t breathe. My heart was pounding excitedly in my chest as if it was dancing… celebrating.“You know, I’ve always had this fantasy about -” Callahan wandered his eyes around the bedroom, and when he returned his gaze on me, his lips curved apologetically. “Going here is such a bad idea.”A chuckle escaped my mouth. I tilted my head and asked, “About what?”Callahan’s breath hitched, his Adam’s apple moving as he swallowed hard. “I should -”“You should…” I bit my bottom lip, trailing my fingers along his jawline. “Why don’t you stay, Cal,” I whispered, almost purring like a cat a

(Eve’s POV)“Where did all that energy come from, Eve?” Marga laughed warmly, her eyes sparkling with curiosity as she glanced at her. “Argh! I need to sit. Order for me, Beth.” She took a deep breath, savoring the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee that wafted through the air as they stepped into Tony’s Café.Although Bethany looked as drained as Marga, she chose not to say anything. She went straight to the counter without asking for our orders. My pregnant friend pulled a chair and moaned. “Ahh! This is heaven.”“Sitting down? Heaven?” I chuckled, sitting across from her. “We have one store to visit. You still need to check the -”“Ugh!” She shook her head. “Oh, please. No, thank you. I’d dreamt of this, and even in a dream, it’s tiring. Right now, what I need is a massage. So…” Her eyes sparkled as she changed the subject. “Was it a date?”“A date?” I shook my head and racked my brain quickly to give her a believable reason. “A date shouldn’t be with a visitor.”She nodded, agree

(Eve’s POV)I blinked rapidly, my gaze fixed on Wyatt at the dining table, laughing hard at Harry’s joke. I managed to force a laugh at something he said that wasn’t even funny. I managed to finish the main course, but I could hardly swallow the cupcake dessert. It must be my instinct, but something was off about him. After taking another sip of the wine he gave me, I rested my clenched fists in my lap, controlling the tension through my body. I plastered a smile, showing him I was okay because Harry kept glancing at me every time my lips touched the glass.A sudden wave of heat washed over me. Was it the lingering effects of last night's fever? I returned the wine glass to the table, picked up the water, and drank it slowly, my eyes darting to my phone, a silent plea for escape. I glanced at Wyatt, and even without words, we both knew we were in the same uncomfortable boat.I tilted my head, suddenly seeing Wyatt so attractive. This must be another dream.Isabella came to the rescue, picking up her pet. “Don’t be scared, Mommy. He walked toward me after calling my kids to sit and eat breakfast.“What…” What are you doing here? I cleared my throat and changed my mind about asking him. Instead, I lifted my hand and pressed my palm on his forehead. “Are you okay?”Callahan grasped my hand and nodded. “I should be the one asking you that, Eve.”With wide eyes, I leaned forward and whispered, unconsciously saying, “You’re not supposed to come today.”He scoffed, releasing my ha

Slowly, he trailed my shoulders down to my wrists.A low growl escaped my throat, pushing my body against him. I must be sick… or maybe an addiction to him because whenever Callahan and I started touching each other, I couldn’t push him away or stop myself. I became a slave, letting him do whatever he wanted to do with me.The dampness between my legs and the heat crawling through my skin proved I wanted him now. I withdrew my hand from him, reaching the zipper of his pants and grasping his pulsing tool. My heart raced, feeling his already hard member. I moaned deliciously, feeling the tingling down my core. I was on fire!“Eve…” Callahan moaned, grabbing my hand and stopping me from pulling the zipper down.“How about we make that dream come true, Cal,” I whispered, taunting him.Callahan chuckled softl
