Chapter 7

The rain hadn’t stopped, growing heavier as it drenched the city in a thick, misty fog. Cars sped by on the road, splashing water onto me, each drop biting cold against my skin.

When I finally got home, the house was empty, eerily silent. My soaked hair dripped continuously, and the sound of water hitting the floor echoed with every step I took, leaving wet trails behind me.

I locked myself in my bedroom and didn’t come out all day.

It wasn’t until the sound of someone pounding on the door jolted me from my daze that I looked up at the shaking door.

"Florence, pull yourself together!" Tanya's voice came through.

"Are you going to let Lucy laugh at you like this?" she yelled from the other side of the door.

For a while, there was silence.

Just when I thought she’d given up and left, the door swung open. Tanya stood there, waving the spare key in her hand, and sat down beside me on the bed.

“Trust me, Pierce must have his reasons for acting this way.”
