My shoes are an unknown object while I dance my feet raw. It's all I can do to not have more alcohol. But the taste lingers on my tongue. The bitter, mind altering taste that nothing can wash away. I shouldn't have had that drink but I got caught up in the moment.

‘Baby we tried to fight it

We all been there some days’

Chiara is now in front of me dancing.

‘Send your location, come through’

I run my hand through my now loose hair and above my head as I snake my body to the music. Chiara and I both jump to the beat.

Chiara has drink in her hand and it takes everything in me to not snatch it from her hands and gulp it down. So instead I close my eyes and let the music take over.

When the song finishes, I leave the dance floor for the first time since I had that drink.

I find Jared standing with Aidan and a bunch of people I’ve seen around but don’t know. As if he can sense that I glanced at him, Jared’s eyes lock into mine. He’s still talking to the group but his eyes are locked on mine.

A very drunk Danika loops her arm through mine and tugs me towards the group. We slot in with Danika next to Aidan and me next to a very tall, ginger man. Jared still hasn’t taken his eyes from me and I haven’t dared look away from him.

Danika drags Aidan to dance. Jared immediately takes her spot next to me. The other guys in the group start to scatter around the room. Leaving me and Jared alone.

“Enjoying the party?” He asks.

“Yup. You?” I tear my eyes from I’m to the dance floor.

“Mhmm.” I glance over and he’s looking at me so intently.

“So,” I start, “did you eventually get your real drink?”

“I did. Did you have anything?”

“I did but I shouldn’t have.” I click my tongue and roll my eyes playfully before smiling back at him. “What did you have?”

“Guess.” He says.

I don’t know what possessed me, but I lean over and place my lips on his. I don’t think he expects it because it takes him a moment to respond. I part my lips slightly to let my tongue run along the seam of his lips. He immediately lets my tongue slip past and roam every inch of his mouth before he leans into me, holds my hips, and takes control of the kiss.

He tastes good, sweet. He tastes like heaven. The taste of alcohol flees the moment I taste him. This is addicting. And Gods help me, he is a good kisser. I’ve never been kissed like this, touched like this. I don’t want him to stop. But we are both completely out of breath. I’m content to pass out from lack of oxygen if it meant not breaking the kiss but he has other plans.

As he pulls away, my sense flood back to me and I pant, “Whiskey. A really fancy whiskey.”

“What?” He asks. His eyes are on my lips and they are swirling darkness.

“Your… uh,” he makes me a blubbering idiot. “Your drink. You had whiskey. Not that much because you don’t taste like whiskey.”

“Whiskey.” He says absentmindedly. We just stand staring at each other.

“Faye.” Chiara all but falls on me. I reach out to catch her, breaking the trance with Jared. Was that a growl that came from Jared?

“You smell like breakfast.” Chiara slurs.

“I should probably get her home.” I say to Jared.

“Let me help you.” He reaches out for Chiara but she throws herself away from him, almost toppling both of us over.

“No.” She sticks her finger out. “This is a girls evening. Faye and I will be just fine without you.” She waves her shakey finger around.

Jared looks at me and I shrug.

“I’ll get her home safe. Promise.” I say before wrapping Chiara’s arm around my shoulder. “Bye Jared.” I say with a heavy heart.

“Bye Faye.” He says. Fuck I love the way he says my name.

_____________________________

Once Chiara is tucked in bed and sound asleep, I start getting myself ready for bed.

Chiara’s phone lights up on the nightstand. I don’t mean to pry but when the message says Dear Faye, I have to read it.

‘Dear Faye

I’m sure Chiara is passed out by now so I hope you’ll see this.

I had a really amazing time with you this evening. I haven’t danced in a long time and dancing with you was amazing.

I hope you feel the same.

Sleep tight

Jared’

I keep staring down at the message. He enjoyed dancing with me!

No Faye!! Get it together. You can’t feel things for him. You can’t break his heart when it’s time to leave.

But am I not allowed one evening of happiness every now and then?

‘Good night Jared

Sweet dreams

All my love

Faye’

Monday morning is strange. Some people are overly happy, giddy almost. While others are angry. I wonder what happened? Maybe I should ask someone what’s going on. “Hi.” Chiara links her arm through mine giving me heart failure. “Sorry.” She says sheepishly but doesn’t remove her arm as I clutch my chest. “It’s okay.” I say as we walk through the corridors. She starts chatting too chipper for a Monday morning. “Listen Chiara, if we’re going to be friends, I don’t do mornings well. Especially not Monday mornings. It’s too early for happy.” “Okay.” She drops the smile. “I can do dreary.” She leans her head on my shoulder. “Thank you.” I sigh and Chiara drags me to class. __________________“Hey.” I sit with Chiara at lunch. “Hey Faye.” Jared smiles at me.

I rush to answer the knock at the door. “Hey Faye. I just want to apologise for earlier. I didn’t… oh fuck! What happened?” Chiara reaches out. Before Chiara can touch me I reach out and wipe the blood oozing from the wound on my cheek. My left eye waters at the contact. “Nothing. I’m fine.” “You’re not. You’re bleeding. It looks like…”“FREYAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!” The voice booms from inside. “Who is…” “FUCKING WENCH!” Glass shatters inside and I wince. “Chiara, I need you to never come back here unannounced again. Okay?”“O-o-okay.” She looks shell shocked. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow. I promise.” I close the door as she walks away. I head upstairs to my mothers room. “Fucking whore.” She

I open my eyes to see her giggling. “Morning everyone.” Aidan says and he walks towards us with his arm around Danika’s waist. The day goes by so painfully slow. Our group is paired with the one Jared’s in and all I can think about, breathe in, is the little slag draping herself on Jared like a fur coat. The thought of shooting and skinning her cane through my mind a couple times. Except instead of a coat, I would turn her into a rug so I could trample her and then take her outside and beat her with a stick. And Aidan was nothing but friendly with me the whole day. At dinner we sat across from each other at the 2 seater table. The exercise is to get to know your trip partner better seeing as we’re spending the next 2 days together. “How’s your cheek doing?” He asks while sipping his milkshake. “I can barley see it.”“The power of makeup.” I smirk. “What about you? How are your buckles doing?”“Fine.” He flexes his fingers. “All healed.”“Good.” I smil

It’s about 11 at night. Everyone is finally asleep. I quietly dig in my bag. Once I have everything I need, I use the tree outside our window to reach the ground. I move at a swift run down the streets. Winding through the high rise city. The blinding lights and fancy stores don’t distract me from running to the stunning building. I catch my breath before heading into the lobby and swaggering to the desk. Faye is replaced by Pixie. “I’m here for Mr Texiera.” I say to the receptionist. “You can go up.” She gestures to the elevator. “Floor 4.”I head to the elevator. Once the doors close I drop the bag on the floor and look in the mirror. I straighten my black leather shorts and tug the collar of my ankle length black coat. I straighten the top hat with bunny ears on my head, the hat hiding my hair. No makeup. The scar on my cheek still a sickly sweet pink. The door opens a

I chuckle. “Maybe.” “Her Jared.” A very peppy Daisy bounces over. “Can I sit?” “Sure.” Jared says looking annoyed. She quickly grabs a chair from another table. “Do you mind moving over, Frey?”“It’s Faye.” You cunt, I think to myself as I glare at her and scoot my chair over. “I don’t like her either.” Aidan leans over and whispers. “Do you think if I slit her throat anyone would miss her?” “”Her hair stylist. This, this is why I stopped drinking. But looking down at a sleeping Jared, the throbbing dulls. He is so gorgeous when he sleeps. He snores like a sailer though. I run my hand gently through his silky hair. She makes me so angry and then so confused and so fucking happy. She makes me happy. This little bundle of spunk. I can’t believe she managed to pin me! She’s so perfect. It’s going to be hard to not be possessive over her in public but I’ll do my best. And the whole being in only one part of her life was a shock but I’ll take it. 10 Months Later Jared “I’m going into town for a few things. Wanna come with? We can get a milkshake.” Chiara says as she leans against my office door way. “I’m busy at the moment.” I don’t even look up at her. “I’m only leaving in 15 minutes. If you change your mind, you know where to find me.” She sighs and walks out. I lean back and sigh as well. The last little while had been hectic. I know Chi is just trying to make it better so I finish my last few papers and head downstairs to meet Chiara. We drive around town and buy a couple of things before heading to the square with all the restaurants. On our little walk, I feel Flint stirring. I haven’t felt or heard from him since the day after the fire. As we pass a fancy restaurant, he snaps to attention. ‘She’s here!’ I howls.

I climb out my car and start unlocking the front door. He’s positioned himself so I can’t go for the crotch and he’s too tall for me to head butt into his nose. He angles the knife so it pierced my skin and I let out a muffled groan. “Open the door.” He hisses, spit splattering my cheek. I slowly turn the key in the lock and then pause. Hurry up Les, please. My mother is sober when I fetch her. Which means she throws ever insult and snide remark she can as we drive to the house.I’ve learnt to ignore her. I suppose that’s how I’m so good at ignoring everyone else. My former friend group tried to ‘fix it’ but I shut all of that down very quickly. Chiara and Danika’s group then had their attempt which had the same result. Hadley attempted to ‘collect the date you owe me’ but I turned him down which resulted in a lot of anger, him grabbing me and the two of us fighting in the halls. “Those bruises are very ugly, Freya.” My mother coos from besides me. “How do you expect to find a husband looking like that?” No concern for me. Never any concern for me. Not “is it a boy who did that too you?”, “do we need to file a report against someone?” Or simply “are you okay darling?

Unknown POV We head through the airport with an aura of ‘don’t fuck with us’. As we walk through the gates, the only person in the place leans on a far wall.
