Klaus PoV
“Find her,” Maximo’s order resonated around the cave,
“I definitely will,” Axel replied, panic and fear dripping from his voice.
“Then what are you waiting for?” he barked, and we stumbled out of the cave.
I’d never seen anyone with such power that Maximo wielded. Besides the curse that made him powerful, the powerful aura that hung around him was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. I was both fearful and in awe at the same time. I totally understood why Axel was scared. I was scared too. The enormity of Maximo’s power could fry the brain in our skulls if he wished it. He could kill us in a thousand ways, and we would never stand a chance. Fighting him was not an option, which meant we only had one choice; Find Lisa.
“Are you okay, Alpha?” I asked.
Axel had been unusually silent since we left the cave. I’d expected him to take the lead and morph into a wolf so we can race back home, instead, he walked slowly through the woods, seemingly oblivious to everyone around him.
“Alpha? Are you…”
“I heard you the first time,” his rebuke was so sharp it made me recoil.
“I’m sorry,” I hastily apologized, “you were silent.”
“I was thinking.”
“Thinking?”
“About how Lisa escaped,” Axel muttered, “I’ve been running the scenario in my head a million times and I just can’t figure it out.”
Nothing good could come out of Axel figuring out how Lisa escaped. If he found out it was me, that I was the one that put he and the pack in danger, he would kill me and my wife without a second thought. I needed to deflect his train of thought.
“Perhaps, you didn’t bind the chain, and you thought you did.”
“I would never make a mistake with Lisa,” he fired, “especially when I know what hangs in the balance. We need to find her.”
“We?” I yelped.
“I’m sorry,” Axel scoffed and turned to face me, “didn’t you hear the threat that bastard made? Do you think you or your wife are going to be safe when his wrath descends on the pack? We’re in this together, you and I. We must find her.”
“Of course,” I grinned to hide my anxiety, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“But first,” he turned to face the path, “we need to find whoever helped Lisa escape. I will not have a traitor in my pack. Quick, let’s get back home. We have a traitor to find.”
With renewed sense of purpose, Axel turned into a wolf and began to run home. I didn’t waste any second, and I was right on his heel. On our journey to the cave, Axel was the one that shut me out of his thought, on the journey back home, I was the one shielding my thought.
I felt guilty for releasing Lisa. If I’d known about Maximo and his threats, I probably would have made a different decision. Then again, deep within me, I felt Lisa didn’t deserve the brutal punishment Axel and his household was dishing on the girl. Why couldn’t he have just kept her in the pack, but treated her right. All these troubles we were in with Maximo wouldn’t have been there in the first place.
Running at a very high speed, it didn’t take us very long to reach the pack. Axel immediately transformed into a human, and I followed suit.
“You’re in charge of the investigation,” he ordered, “find this traitor before I get back.”
“Where are you off to?”
“To hire some mercenaries that would help me find Lisa.”
I watched Axel bound off with a bitter feeling welled up at the back of my throat. I was torn between doing what was right for Lisa and my loyalty to Axel and the pack as I walked home.
“Klaus!” Aurora immediately jumped on me the moment I stepped inside the house, “Klaus,” she murmured again, wrapping her hands tighter around my body.
“I’m okay,” I whispered gently to her ears. I could smell the fear bounce off her body.
“I thought Axel figured it out and hurt you,” she sobbed gently, “don’t ever run off on me like that.”
“Mi Amòr,” I smiled gently, “I’m fine.”
Tell me everything, she pulled me towards the chair and listened patiently as I narrated everything that happened with Maximo.
“I’m sure I did the right thing,” I sighed, “then again, what if the right thing is not what’s best for us?”
“Trust me, dear,” she smiled, exposing her perfect set of white that I often teased her about, “the right thing is always the best option for us.”
“But what if Axel finds out?”
“Then we make sure he doesn’t.”
“I don’t know,” I shook my head, “the safety of the pack hangs in the balance.”
“The pack will be fine,” she chuckled, and took my hand, “darling, this drama with Maximo just proves we’re right. The prophecy is real, and Lisa is our salvation. She will end the war, and bring peace to all the land. We did the right thing, now we need to cover our track. You handle Axel’s spoilt brat. I’ll handle the guard. If we handle all the loopholes Axel will not find out, and we’ll be fine.”
“Somehow, you’re extremely sexy when you’re plotting the salvation of witches and Lycans,” I laughed and softly planted my lips against hers. She kissed me back, and I got lost in her velvet lips while my hands roamed her body.
Aurora was right. I did the right thing and freed the one person that would prevent the genocide of the witches. But, most importantly, I freed a young girl from bondage and suffering. Just like Aurora said, all I needed to do was fix the loopholes, and Axel would never find out. I didn’t have to worry. The last thought that filtered through my mind before I followed my wife to the bedroom was how Lisa faring. But that thought was soon overshadowed by Aurora’s naked body, and all I could think about was the erection poking in my trousers.
Lisa PoVEven though Nessa has been a part of me since I was born, she'd only manifested recently – no thanks to Axel – and it felt weird to share my body with an entirely new being. For the longest time, I'd always felt alone, now that I have a companion, it took a while to adjust to the new development. I didn't even know how it worked. Was she living inside of me? I often wondered. And if that's the case, how can a wolf fit inside me?"I fit quite well," Nessa's voice startled me."Stop doing that," I groaned."Do what?" Nessa asked innocently."You know, suddenly talking into my head. It's creepy.""I'll make sure to announce myself before I speak next time," Nessa laughed. For some weird reason, Nessa loved to tease me. It seemed like I was her personal source of entertainment."You know what I mean," I rolled my eyes."Fine, I understand. I'm sorry. You've been moody, and I wanted to cheer you up.""I'm fine," I replied. In reality, I was far from being fine. I'd dreamed of my f
Axel PoVNo matter how much I played it over in my head, I still couldn't figure out how the girl escaped. I've always been careful. I had even gone the extra mile of acquiring a silver collar, which was extremely scarce and expensive. I always ensured the silver collar stayed on her neck, then how could she possibly escape? There was only one explanation."Someone helped her escape," I fumed as anger boiled within me, “and I was going to find this person.”I didn't work so hard to become Alpha only to have an errant wolf in my pack undermine my authority. If they could have the audacity to go behind my back to release the slave, then what was next? Mutiny? Challenging me? Or desertion? The more I thought about it, the angrier I became. A few weeks ago, I could have sworn that all the wolves in my pack feared and respected me so much that they would happily lay down their lives for me. Now, things have changed, and that only meant one thing."They need to fear me," I growled.Fear was
Klaus PoVMy father used to say that fear makes people do crazy things. I didn't really understand what he meant until I saw Axel's reaction to Maximo's threat. Axel began to get irrational and paranoid. He insisted on being called the Alpha and often held meetings with the entire pack in the town square, and all he did was threaten them. Just like he was doing now."And if any of you think you could betray me and walk free, then you don't know who I am," Axel continued his speech, which was just a remake of the speech he gave the previous week, and the week before that. "I am the Alpha of the pack, and no one would threaten my position. It's been three weeks since one of you helped Lisa escape, and I'm yet to find this traitor."The pack listened in silence, their faces filled with varying expressions of fear and confusion. This was the part where Axel would gaze into everyone's eyes as if he could see the truth lurking right beneath their eyeballs."I promise you all," he continued,
Maximo PoVPlanning a genocide was a full-time endeavor, and I definitely do not have the time to worry about a little girl who could undo the entire plan that I’d meticulously planned."Damn Axel," I muttered angrily as I bent my head over the witches’ map.The map was one of its kind. It is the only map in the world that clearly and accurately captured the witches’ territory. I had to break into one of their sacred groves to steal it. Of course, it wasn’t easy. I almost lost my left eye. If I had been one second slow, the spell would have taken out my left eye. The witch that almost blinded me definitely didn’t live to cast another spell. Soon, all the witches would be just the same: Dead."Dead, all of them dead," I chuckled, and a soft smile flickered right at the edge of my lips, but the smile barely reached my mouth.I had a fool proof plan. A plan that would ensure my success, but Darling Moon Goddess had another plan."You had to foretell a prophecy, didn’t you?" I jabbed a fi
Lisa PoV"Oh my god," I laughed as I ripped through the forest. My paw was hitting the ground with such ferocity that it felt like the ground was shaking and would tear into two at any moment. I was running with such incredible speed that the forest zipped past me in a blur. It was incredible. All my senses were extremely heightened to the extent that I could hear and see the entire forest. The chirping of crickets, the tweeting of birds, the panting of a deer; I could even hear a bunch of squirrels scurrying up a tree.I have never felt so alive, so free. I felt like I had absolutely no worry in the world. That was the third time that I was transformed into a wolf, and it still felt like the first time."Enjoying the ride?" Nessa chuckled."You know I am," I laughed. It was such a wonder that I had such an amazing gift inside of me, and I was just experiencing it now."Not to worry," Nessa laughed, "we have so much time to spend together. I smell a river nearby, let’s check it out."
Axel PoVAnger flared within me as I stared at White Wolf. He was talking, but I no longer hear a word of whatever he was saying. I was too irritated to listen. All I wanted was results, instead, I’m getting excuses."She’s been really hard to track," he was saying, "she’s always moving. It’s almost like she knows that someone’s after her…"Of course, she knows I’m after her," I snapped at him while I struggled to keep my anger from exploding, "she escaped from the cage I put her in, and she knows I’ll stop at nothing to put her there.""I understand," he quickly apologized, "but what’s so important about this girl? I mean, you’re a powerful Alpha of a slightly large pack, you could have any girl you want. Why stay hooked on this runaway girl?""White Wolf," I growled, "you’re one second away from provoking me into a fit of ravenous anger. State the reason for your presence.""I came to inform you that I need more money. I got a new lead that I intend to explore. I’m sure I’ll find he
Klaus PoV"This is getting out of hand," Aurora called out as she splattered oil all over the pan. She was in the middle of making breakfast, yet, all her thoughts were centered on Axel's erratic actions."I know, babe," I replied as I set the table, "but there's nothing I can do.""What do you mean there's nothing you can do?" she raised her voice louder than the sizzling sound of the frying eggs. It was bacon and eggs for breakfast, my favorite. “You're the beta. The pack looks up to you.""And he's the Alpha," I replied, "the pack owes their loyalty to him.""Then maybe he should no longer be the Alpha, and the pack should swear their loyalty to someone that truly cares about them. Not an Alpha that would turn around to torture the same people he swore to protect."Aurora had a deep scowl on her face as she entered the dining room with two sets of plates perfectly balanced on her arms."Babe, what you're suggesting is ludicrous," I scoffed, "that's a rebel, anyone who tries that w
Maximo PoVI clearly remember the night I escaped my tower.Unlike the fairytales adults tell little cubs around the bonfire, I was not guarded by a fiery, fire-breathing dragon. I was guarded by ferocious wolves who were ordered to kill me if I ever tried to escape. And guess who gave the order.“Dear old daddy," I muttered, glancing at the moon goddess statue, "well, I don't blame him. I really don't. I did rip out the heart of his dearly beloved mistress on my way out of her womb.“Don't give me that face," I scoffed at the statue, "it was not my fault. Some dandy witch cursed my pregnant mother in order to send a deadly message to the king. Unfortunately, I was growing in her belly when she was cursed and the curse ran its course on me, rather than my mother.”“I know," I poured myself another drink made from the pear fruit I collected when I wandered outside the previous night, "I've told you my tragic story about a dozen times already. But what else have we got to talk about?”“
