Chapter Seventy Two

Maximo PoV

It’s been almost a week since that magical child escaped my grip. And how she escaped was still a mystery. That was why I hated working with other people. They’re always inept and eventually let you down. Some even let you down repeatedly, no matter how many second chanced you give them.

“Take for Axel for example,” I growled, “the idiot lost the pack I worked very hard to give him. And tried to lie his way back to my side.”

There was a limit to foolishness, and Axel and his lackeys had definitely passed theirs. I had them locked in the prison yard till I know what to do with them.

I stood up and began to pace my room. Jack had it custom made to suit me. It was wide and spacious, just like I love it. He’d initially stuffed the room with lots of modern mundanities, but I had them removed. I’ve survived without modern vanities for so long, and I intend to keep it that way.

The only furniture in the room was the bed, a bed stool, a small table pressed against a northern wall
