Chapter Seven: Confrontations and Realisations

Leaving the hospital felt surreal. The world seemed oddly unchanged while my life was getting more tangled by the minute. The thickness of the envelope in my hand was a constant reminder of the complex web of loyalty, betrayal, and duty that now ensnared me.

As I parked in front of my family's mansion, nausea churned my stomach. I couldn't bring myself to feel at home here anymore. I hesitated for a moment, running my fingers over the coarse edge of the envelope meant for Lena. With a sigh, I steeled myself and walked up to the door, opting to knock instead of strolling in as I used to. Something fundamental within these walls had changed, and barging in seemed wrong.

The door creaked open, and there stood Lena. As soon as she saw me, her face twisted into an expression of pure rage.

Her eyes blazed with fury. "What do you want?" she snapped venom in her voice. "Actually, I don't care," she spat out, turning sharply and storming off into the depths of the house.
