Chapter 57

Rose felt her chest constricting and her heartbeat racing fast. She was sure he must be hearing the thumping of her heart. From his ragged breathing she could tell it was him. She gulped with her hands on the phone that was now glued to her ear.

Both of them were silent and she didn't know whether she should speak. He was calling after a month and the first thing that poked her mind was to wish him also a happy birthday but she dared not even speak about it but she also couldn't hang up.

Stephano was also at a loss for words. It took him everything to pick up his phone and dial his brother's number. The brother he believed betrayed him brutally. He didn't know if it was something he could forgive but paving the way out for them wasn't something he would have done but then he recalled his grandfather's words. He followed his grandfather's advice and decided to leave.

But today was a special day. And, Stephano knew his body wouldn't sit well with going to bed and not wishing his own bro

Also, his role as Rose's first in many aspects adds layers to his character. P.S. Just sharing my perspective, not looking to argue but to clarify where I'm coming from.

Secondly, towards the end of the book His Heartbroken Wife, Stephano was shown as a central figure, rude bt showing a heart to help Rose. His recent version is perhaps a product of manipulation by his grandfather. His actions could be seen as a result of a flawed upbringing rather than inherent evil

I respect your opinion, and I acknowledge Stephano's actions are reprehensible. What intrigues me about him, though, is firstly, his complexity and the potential for character development.
