I looked at the stage, making sure the woman was not there and that I was just imagining things.

But in confirmation, Lana wasn’t really present on stage, beside Titus, where she always liked staying.

My heart beat faster as I looked at the forest again, still seeing figures moving about.

What is she doing there? Why is she talking with a rogue?

And most importantly, why is it not attacking her?

Not that I want her to be attacked, but the most normal thing to happen when facing a rogue is to be attacked.

Unless…

“... announcement of the Top 14, the Kingsguard.”

The applause that resonated around the area caught my attention. My head snapped back to the stage again and caught Titus looking at me.

He gave me a small smile, but he immediately caught up to my emotions when a more serious expression came on his face.

‘What’s wrong, my love?’ he immediately mind-linked me.

I swallowed, feeling the chill around my neck when the wind breezed through the wide space of the pack.

I can still

I expected Sabbie was not part of the top 14 because Titus doesn't want her to face danger because she was his weakness. Sabbie on the other hand doesn't really want to be a guard her reason for joining the training is for self defense. But I hope Sebastian was alright. I like him.

I was beaten, almost taken advantage of, cried, saved, and all other things that I had ambivalent feelings for this place. But I know one thing for sure: this forest is dangerous.Stopping by the spot where I thought I saw the red eyes earlier, I looked behind me towards the still on-going ceremony. It had started getting mellow as it slowly went to its end. And I could see that som

“S-Samuel?”I mumbled as I stared wide-eyed at the boy whom I was cleaning the Omega house with.He was missing the last time I heard about him…“S-Sabrina…” He backed away and let go of the lady. She slumped on the ground, dirty and wounded, but all my attention was on Samuel. The quiet and nice kid I know from the Omega House. Before I went away for training I heard he was missing. Is this the reason why?“Samuel!” I screamed when he suddenly turned his back and started running. The other rogue whom he was with followed him. “Stop! Wait, Samuel!” I tried following them, but the laugh that came from the other rogue made me almost stop. The rogue glanced back at me and smirked, before he and Samuel ran—both half turned and smudged with dirt. I stopped on my tracks, frozen, and just stared at the pathway they went through until they went away.“Samuel…” “You know the boy.”My attention was taken when the lady suddenly spoke. I turned to her and saw her still sitting on the floor.

“T-Titus… I think I shouldn’t be here,” I said as soon as he pulled me towards him as he opened the doors of the board room where the rest of the Council people, including the Elders were gathered for an immediate meeting.Titus didn’t respond and just continued walking inside the large room. While I tried acting normal when all eyes went to us.Alphas, guards—now including the 14 Kingsguards, the Councilors and the people who were involved earlier watched us as they waited for the king to speak up.Titus stood at the head of the triangular shaped table, the tip pointing at him. He looked so tall and formidable most especially with his black and gold uniform and the medals that hung around it, that no one dared speaking. Despite his stance, his hand was still on my back, so I had no choice but to follow him. I noticed how most of the people’s attention were on his arm around me, so I awkwardly stood back a little, expecting Titus to let it go. He did, but he glanced at me with thos

But if it was really her, why would she do it? “We’re sorry for suddenly interrupting. But we have urgent information from Madame Belissa,” Ben informed, looking like he indeed ran from here. His white shirt was still rolled up, the white hairs on his arms showing. Even the grayish hair that he already had on his head looked extra bright, as if he had been very stressed by the situation. His usual warm smile wasn’t present in his face. “Proceed,” Titus spoke, turning his attention to them. “Lady Lana.” Ben gestured to Lana, and I turned my eyes towards her. Still in her body-forming, long, black dress, Lana Wintour stood in front of us with the same confidence she always had around people. Despite everything, her hair and make up was still perfect. But I could see behind her facade that she wasn’t as perfectly poised as everyone thought she was. Something in her eyes wants to break away. I could practically see it clawing at her. But she wouldn’t be the upright and disciplined

I could literally hear my heart beating so loudly.‘I-It’s okay… I swear. It’s understandable. It’s because they don’t know me.’ I reasoned through mindlink. But Titus turned to me, looking frustrated. “You are not to be spoken like that,” he said out loud, his eyes bright, his wolf just right at the surface. He faced the people again. “I will not let anyone speak to you like that.”The silence that followed after that felt chilly, and it stretched on for minutes. Nobody dared speaking as we all could practically feel how Titus was just controlling himself not to throw a fit.I watched as he clenched and unclenched his fists.I wanted to reach out to him, but kept myself still. I didn’t want to make matters worse.“This meeting is done.” After a while, he finally spoke. “You may now go.” At first, the Councilors and other Alphas looked at each other, reluctant over moving, but they eventually did.Councilor Antonio moved first, the other Councilor followed along with the Alphas and

“She hasn’t woken up yet. But all is well with her, don’t worry.” I nodded at the nurse that was inside Elder Belissa’s private room. “Thank you,” I said, and she immediately went back to her work. I watched her silently as she fixed the tubes that were injected in the arms of Madame Belissa, making sure everything was okay. After everything that I just heard from the rogue and her last night, I knew I just had to talk to her again. I want to know what she meant about my ability to hear other’s wolves. And how it connects to my being mated to the king. But the echoes of the machine and the silent heaves of breath from the Madame was all that I could have right now. As the nurse said, she hasn’t woke up yet. The madame’s regeneration isn’t as fast as it was when she was young. And I heard she was almost two centuries old. “If I’m allowed, I’ll visit later again,” I spoke as the nurse continued organizing the area after a while. She nodded. “You are allowed, Miss Sabrina. “That would totally oust me from his choices.” She huffed, sounding defeated.I shook my head. “Lana, if you think I’m gonna use this information just to get Titus from you, then I’m offended you think so lowly of me.”She met my eyes. “If he was going to choose, I’d rather have him choose by himself and not intentionally influence his decision.”“But that doesn’t exactly make me feel better,” she said, still sounding defeated. “It was pretty clear what his choice was.”I heaved a deep breath, realizing where this antagonistic attitude of hers was coming from. I knew she was genuinely thankful for what I did last night, but what she witnessed in the boardroom brought her latter bitter sentiments of me.We both fell silent after a couple of minutes. We just stayed rooted on our feet, but looking somewhere else rather than each other.“Look…” I turned to her when she decided to break the silence.“I am grateful—very grateful for what you did to my Nana. I-I’m not ready to lose her.” S

“Sabrina, dear.” I quickly nodded and smiled at Ben. “It’s nice to see you visiting.”“Yeah, I just wanted to check on the madame.” He nodded.“Excuse me.” Lana suddenly excused herself and went inside the private room. She didn’t look back at us and just closed the door.“How are you? Nothing painful?” Ben reached for my arm and inspected my body as soon as the doors to the Elder’s room closed.“Just a scratch,” I said, knowing I had a wound on my elbow from last night.“Hmm,” he continued looking at my body as if he could see any pain I was hiding.“Nothing from the scratches and bites you had?” I shook my head and smiled.“None. It seems like their venom didn’t affect me at all, just like what you guys said.”“Hmm,” Ben hummed as he continued looking around my body for inspection. I could also see his eyes slightly changing color as he sniffed the air. He must be using his werewolf senses to sense anything wrong in the air around me.That took a couple of seconds, and finally Ben

“Make sure you’re right about this…” Nate exhaled loudly and mumbled, “the king is gonna kill me.” I sighed and nodded. “I’m sorry.” I looked at the empty entrance way of the dungeon. “And thank you for allowing me to be here. I swear I won’t be long.”Nate just nodded. Since I told him I wanted to see Lana and told him my reason, something changed in his demeanor and in his eyes. There was a bit of hope and something I couldn’t quite decipher that flashed through them but immediately went away. “I’ll look for you in the mansion after 15 minutes. If you’re not there, I’ll come back here and get you out.” I nodded. I know he’s just being careful.”Okay.” Nate once again nodded at me before he urged me to go. I turned my back on him and started walking inside the cold dungeon. The last time I was here, I was terrified. I saw probably the worst state any wolf could be in. Samuel. The last news I heard about him was he was taken to a facility to get checked. I don’t know his whereabout

“What are you thinking?”My hand that was immobile on his toned stomach flinched when he suddenly broke the peaceful silence around us. Titus looked down on me as I laid on his arm. He looked magnificent as his dark eyes reflected the sliver of sunlight that went through the glass window. It was still afternoon and the bright sun had finally braved its way through the thick clouds that had been darkening the skies of Vamos these past few days.“Hmm,” I exhaled a breath and looked down on his bare chest. My hand traced its toned skin. He caught my hand and intertwined our fingers. “Tell me,” he urged, knowing I was holding something back. The buzzing in my head never stopped since my headaches came. I realized that this also happened to me inside the laboratory just when I was starting to hear some other wolves. My head was still hurting a little, but I know now they were effects of hearing somebody else’s wolf. And I feel like there is a certain connection to that to what has been

”She was mad that all their plans were not followed. They said that Lady Lana dropped everything she had before she was betrothed to the king, even leaving her mate, but then you suddenly came into the picture… and that was the reason why she decided to betray the king… all of us.”I just listened silently at Maddie as she explained to me why Lana was arrested after seeing her the day I was abducted. I just continued staring at the large clearing of the pack before I faced Maddie who looked quite a bit down as she narrated to me what happened during the arrest.”Do you believe it?” Her light green eyes went to me. “Do you believe that she is the traitor?”Hesitation immediately flashed in those kind, green eyes before they looked down again. “I… I am in no position to disagree with the king and the Council’s judgment.”I stared at my best friend as she basically did not answer my question. “Tell me the truth, Maddie. Do you believe the accusations against Lana Wintour?” I asked agai

“Can you please tell us, what happened when you were conscious in that lab, Miss Ringwood?” One Councilor wasted no time and asked. I looked at all of them, seeing how serious everyone was. I have always felt kind of intimidated by this group of men and women, but there was something more somber and sinister in their presence today. The kidnapping and the discovery of what those rogues were up to really changed it for them.”When I…” I paused, feeling my heart in my throat. I don’t even know what I’m so nervous about.”When I became conscious, I was able to speak to one of the leading rogues inside that lab,” I said.”What’s his name? Do we know him?” I shook my head as an answer to another one of the Council people’s questions. “I didn’t get his name. But he was tagged as the leader inside that laboratory. Though, I heard him say they had a master. And I personally recognized him from years ago.” I added, wanting to be very transparent and honest about this. It’s the only way I kno

As soon as we stepped outside the Andreyev mansion, I immediately felt how different the atmosphere was. Vamos has always had this somewhat filled atmosphere around. Hundreds of years of history has already etched itself in this very land, and it housed the greatest lycan kings in history so I understand. Its atmosphere could sometimes be light, most of the time, it could be quite heavy. But this heavy was different. I looked around the wide clearing and saw many Warriors walking around. All in complete uniform and armed. Most were on lines and some were speaking as if meeting for some important mission one last time before they went out and did it. The scarce normal packmates of Vamos were merely passing by and getting back inside their homes. No one was there to walk around leisurely like how most usually do. Everyone was busy. But it wasn’t the typically busy grounds of Vamos. It was buzzing with tension. With an eager force to attack. With men in uniforms occupying the grounds

“I’ll be back before the sun gets down.””Okay,”He leaned in to give me a kiss. But what I thought was going to be a peck became a deep smooch as Titus pulled my neck towards him. I held on to his shirt as he devoured me. And I couldn’t complain as I loved everything he’s been doing to me. “Don’t go out without me, Sebastian or Nathan, okay?”“Okay,” I nodded, knowing he’d need my assurance that I will be safe. I don’t want to defy him with that again. It has been our issue, and something grave has already happened to me. It’s the least I could do to help him and to be safe. “I love you. I’ll see you later.” He once again gave me another kiss before he started walking out of the room. I watched him in his usual black pants and black long-sleeves. He said he was going to have numerous meetings today for all the investigations they’ve been doing after getting some evidence in the rogue lab they got me from.“I love you, too,” I said and waved back at him before he closed the door to

“W-why…” was all I could say as I gaped. Maddie just looked down, sensing how confused and worried I got. I closed my mouth and turned to the window once again. Titus was no longer there. Sebastian was left and he was commanding the now divided troops into who-knows-where. “You’ve basically been in a coma for the last month, Rina. And according to Sir Ben, it was least likely you could recover. We could barely feel you. When the king heard that, the troop mission to annihilate every rogue in our lands intensified. King Titus could no longer be stopped, even when it was already hurting some civilians.”My figure just froze there. Not knowing what to feel about it.The last conversation I had with Titus, he opened up about his worst fears and experiences. He had finally opened up to me and I also did to him. So, I know this must have been very hard for him. I couldn’t imagine what must be going on inside his head as he thought he was going to lose me. It was his worst fear. It was e

“… wait. She will recover. She’s strong.”I stirred, hearing voices around me.”She has too many rogue venom in her. I’m just afraid…”The voice sounded so troubled. Like they were crying. But I couldn’t recognize who’s voice it was.“You did well, Maddie. You were just in time. It’s not your fault.”Sobs echoed around the room as the girl started crying. I couldn’t move myself nor do anything. That went on for how many more minutes until the voices faded away. It’s either they went away, or I just started drifting away again.Sounds came back to my senses when I heard a loud beeping sound. It wasn’t exactly irritating to the ears, but I was bothered by what it was. I started opening my eyes.Bright light immediately greeted my vision. My vision became hazy as exhaustion got to me. Sweat dripped on my forehead. I took huge breaths. I watched everyone outside—seeing Maddie getting taken away by the doctor beside her out of the bed as a fight broke inside. A constant ringing blared on my ears. I could see the people outside fighting with another group. I could make out how messy everything has become. But I couldn’t hear them—I couldn’t hear anything besides the sharp ringing in my ears and the compliant whimpers from other wolves inside my head. What’s happening? ”M-Maddie...¦” I mumbled as I saw her getting hauled up by the doctor who had been constantly beside her. After taking out the last needle in her body, he immediately ran out and took her away. Away from me. Where I couldn’t see what they’d do to her. ”M-Maddie...¦” My voice broke as tears fell hard on my cheeks. Whatever remaining strength was left in me was given to the act of just watching everything unfold. The doctors inside the lab, includ
