People looked at me as I walked inside the Office Building where I was assigned.
Two days had passed since the Offering and people in the Vamos pack were still adjusting to our presence.
Well, MY presence. The Remain.
Apparently, it was true that for years since the tradition of the Offering was made, this was the first time in a couple of decades that someone was not picked to be taken.
So, those girls may have been right to say that, but still wrong at the same time. I wasn’t the very first one! I was just the first one after many years of not having a Remain.
Insecure brats. They didn’t even realize it was more pitiful to be taken by someone like an object like that than to be left alone like me.
‘We found our mate. That’s why we weren’t taken.’ Lia, my wolf, suddenly intruded my train of thoughts.
I frowned, hating how she has the power to do that. Also hating the fact that I was also somehow considering the reason she was saying to be the cause of this—not that I wanted to be picked.
But who am I kidding? That bastard couldn’t have possibly told that man who was already pining on me to get away because I was his mate.
He even threatened me in my face to never tell a soul about it.
I’ve realized after staying here for two days, that that encounter with those brats wouldn’t be the first and last; because since their Omegas are far more stronger than any of us, normal werewolves from the Offering, we were still at the deepest part of the hierarchy. The lowest.
We’re slaves, basically.
So it really didn't come as a shock to me when something went flying over my head as soon as I stepped inside the building with a mop in my hand.
"Hey, weakling. Get this done for me," said the Warrior lycan that lounged inside the Office Building where I was assigned to clean.
The first floor of the building, where I was specifically assigned, was dedicated for the Warriors' use for relaxation.
Lycans were also known for their strong soldiers and warriors, so it’s not a shock that this bastard has a feeling of entitlement to treat me or any of us like crap.
Shocker. Even those girls who weren’t lycans tried bullying us, how much more these manically stronger bastards?
I didn’t look at the man that threw his disassembled weapons at me. They’ve been training for assembling firearms since the other day.
I started mopping the floor where the other bastards he was with stepped on with wet mud on their shoes.
The scumbags have been doing it since yesterday even when they could see me mopping the floor over and over again.
“Hey, b*tch. I’m talking to you.” I wanted to roll my eyes at him.
He’s been insistent at making me slave for him since he saw me here yesterday.
This jackass is more buff than some, and has cropped short hair. Wearing their black warrior uniform, he looked like he could tackle anyone in his way. And as usual, he’s tall—the usual lycan height.
Noticing a black pin on his chest, I realized then he must be someone of rank in their unit.
“I’m tired and need assistance. Assemble that for me,” he continued insisting like a lazy bastard sitting on the couch.
I saw in my peripheral vision that he started stretching his leg, ready to kick me when I didn’t move.
And before I knew it, I almost stumbled on my feet, if not for the mop I was holding, I could have face-planted on the floor.
I gritted my teeth.
“Do the hell what I say, you loser. Or you’re gonna get kicked harder the next time.”
Standing up properly, I slowly turned towards the weapons on the floor.
I felt my head boil.
“What? You think you can defy me?”
He said as I looked at his face, containing my anger.
I put my mop down and slowly walked towards the weapons he wanted me to assemble for him.
The bastard immediately smirked when he saw he was having his way.
I started assembling the gun on the floor. Putting the things everywhere that I thought would fit.
I stood up, finished the last piece and handed the jackass his gun. It was small and stealth.
I knew it was especially made to kill Rogues in one shot with its silver bullets. I remember it being introduced to the entirety of Vamos years back.
“Good girl.” I wanted to smack his head when he tapped my hair like a child.
He stood up from his seat and towered over my figure.
“Too bad I was in a Rogue chase during the ceremony. You wouldn’t have been a Remain. I would have picked you.”
He suddenly inched closer, his breath now beside my neck. “But it isn’t too late, is it?”
“Get off me,” I gritted out when his hand immediately snaked to the lower side of my breast.
He chuckled beside my ear, making goosebumps rise on my neck in disgust.
“Get off!—“ I struggled against him, but his other arm constrained my waist when he pulled me towards him closely.
I gasped at his strength, my breath literally caught in my throat.
“Now, be a good girl and give me just a little taste.”
I shook my head forcibly when he took my chin with his fingers.
His head moved towards my lips and his other hand started caressing my chest on top of my clothes.
Disgust rippled all around my body.
“Bastard! Get away! N-No—uhmm!”
I bit both of my lips so his lips wouldn’t touch mine. When he pulled back for a while, I spat at him.
He immediately stepped back, shocked at what I did.
I coughed, feeling my breath come back without his gripping presence.
“YOU BI—“ The ferocious anger in his face, and the slight brightening of his eyes was what greeted me when I looked back at him.
But before he could attack me, the door suddenly opened, taking our attention.
People wearing suits and formal attire went inside the building.
The sight of them made the bastard beside me step back and stand properly.
I also stood properly and straightened my crumpled shirt.
Relief washed over me at the interruption that was done.
Thank the heavens they came. Or I could have been dead after murdering somebody first.
I inhaled deeply in relief, but I immediately noticed the strong presence inside the hall, and I knew the people that came in were somewhere higher in the hierarchy.
They’re from the High Council.
But another scent and presence caught my attention, almost making me forget that I had just struggled away from an attack not even a second ago.
It was so strong and compelling it made each person in the room let him walk through first without him uttering a single word.
And his smell…
‘Mate. He’s here. Talk to him,’ Jia spoke when she felt the intensity of the mate bond in our soul.
Delicious sensations rippled through me as his manly and fragrant scent filled my nostrils.
The king smelled as captivating as he looked.
I couldn’t make out what he was wearing the last time I saw him, but he wore a dark suit today, as dark as his hair, which accentuated his sharp features. It brought out the golden streaks of his hazel eyes and sharpened his structured features.
He appeared taller than most with the way he held himself, and the way he was looking at me as I stared back at him made my body tingle in anticipation.
He looked like he was carved out like a statue.
‘Go to him. Greet him. Talk nicely to him this time.’
I couldn’t even talk back to Jia as I literally felt his gazes on my skin.
His eyes traveled from my feet to my stomach, to my chest, neck until they met my eyes again.
I could almost feel him surveying me like he did the first time we talked, as if checking me.
I no longer had any of the wraps in my wound, completely healing from it—and I have no idea how I was able to heal that quickly when I normally heal two or three days, and that’s already the fastest.
The king looked monotonous, despite how good he looked, but as soon as his eyes landed on my arm, those hazel eyes of his went dark.
I looked down on it and saw red marks from how the Warrior grabbed me earlier.
“You are a squadron leader,” the king said, his tone monotonous as he directed his gazes at the man beside me.
But no one could mistake the menace lingering in it.
“Y-Your Majesty? Y-yes… Yes! Your Majesty,” the man stuttered like a nervous wreck.
The Warrior started sweating beside me. And as much as I wanted to laugh or snigger at how cowardly he sounded and looked right now, I couldn’t.
Even I felt like I was being questioned with how the Lycan King’s eyes penetrated at the man beside me.
“Does your work include slacking off with a woman in the lounge area?”
It seemed like those sarcastic words made me visible to everyone who didn’t even notice my presence with them. All eyes went to me at the mention of 'woman'.
Even the Warrior looked at me. But instead of seeing the lustful eyes he had earlier, I could see shock and nervousness in them.
“Uhmm, n-no, Your Highness,” he started nervously and looked at the latter again.
“I was taking a break from training when I saw her. I just thought of befriending—“
I was going to glare at the lying, twisted bastard when the king interrupted him with a cold voice.
“You do not meddle with just any of the new people. Just because you are unmated, doesn’t mean she is.”
But the glare I was about to throw went away, completely taken aback by the king’s gritted out words to the Warrior who looked terrified beside me.
I stared at the king.
Didn’t he just tell me to keep our matebond a secret? And now he’s doing this?
What is wrong with him?
“My Liege, do you have any business with this werewolf lady?”
That question uttered by an old Councilman seemed to have snapped the king away from his outburst.
Our eyes met and I saw the surprise in his eyes from the way he acted, as if it was all instinct that made him utter those words. But when he blinked, the expression quickly went away.
“May I know your name, Miss?”
My attention went to the man who was beside to the king. He looked at me with wonder in his eyes.
The man had blonde hair and blue eyes that sparkled with both confusion and amusement as they moved between the king and I.
I started fidgeting. Not knowing how to handle the situation.
‘Tell them you’re his mate. Tell them!’ Jia screamed in my head, overly excited at how this situation was trapping us to recognize each other’s connection. But I kept my mouth shut.
“Miss?” The blue-eyed guy insisted.
“S-Sabrina,” I cleared my throat. “Sabrina Ringwood.”
“Are you one of the Offered?” He asked once again. I started tensing.
I usually didn’t mind talks and conversations, but I couldn’t handle being questioned right here, right now, with all of these people around.
But I still answered. “Yes.”
The blue-eyed, charmingly boyish guy nodded. He had this subtle dimple even when he wasn’t smiling.
“Then you must be the Remain,” he concluded with wonder in his eyes.
“Ye—” I was about to speak again, compelled by their dominating presence despite my discomfort, but the king suddenly interrupted.
“Let’s go,” he said. The blue-eyed man looked at him.
He had this stronger presence than most people in the room, except the king.
If I were to assume, he might be the Alpha King’s Beta.
“Let’s not waste our time over this,” the king said and glanced at me.
“Do you know her?” The latter asked him.
I stared at the king, the twang of discomfort from his rather cold and confusing attitude making its way to my chest.
“No.”
The blue-eyed man stared at him. And even when I couldn’t directly see what his expression looked like, I knew confusion and the same wonder was in his eyes like I saw earlier.
And even when I tried to fight it, the king’s answer made something fall in the pit of my stomach.
I heard Jia whimper in my head. The hurt she was feeling was twice as much as mine.
“He really didn’t want to acknowledge us. Why? He’s our mate.” She whimpered.
I didn’t answer her, feeling something stuck in my throat. I could feel her pain as well.
I don’t like that I’m getting hurt because of this.
This is stupid, and unfair.
He looked away from me and walked out.
The Councilmen including the blonde, blue-eyed guy were left standing when the king just strutted away.
But quickly, they all started moving again, following their king that had already vanished towards the other floor of the building where the meeting rooms were located.
But before they could vanish from my sight, those blue eyes went to me again, as if he had just found out something about me.
“You b*tch!”I groaned before landing on the floor. I held my cheek, the sting and pain from the punch echoing around my skull.“I almost died!” The Warrior bastard screamed at my face, his brown eyes so bright with anger. I could almost even see his wolf surfacing.“N-not my fault… you’re stupid…” I said, satisfaction in my voice despite the electrifying pain in my bones from his punches.Still on the floor, he kicked me on the stomach. I groaned and clenched my fists on the ground. I couldn’t fight physically against him. Not when I knew I was going to lose. So I just stayed curled up there, trying to protect vital parts of my body, and fighting him with words. They had training with firearms this afternoon, and since I was the one who assembled his weapon, his gun ricocheted towards him, almost hitting him on the side of his stomach. To be fair, it was a silver bullet, and one wound from that could be critical. But still, it was his fault for letting me assemble his weapon wh
“Rina?”I slowly opened my eyes, squinting immediately when bright light assaulted my vision.“Hey, what happened?” I focused on the person sitting beside my lying form, and realized it was Maddie. “I got smacked,” I said, my voice hoarse. Maddie didn’t appreciate my nonchalance when she frowned.“You have two broken ribs and a sprain in your ankle. How could you be so casual about this?”“I’ve had worse days. You know that,” I just said and looked towards the side, curious where I was.“You’re in the pack’s clinic,” she said, as if reading my mind. I sighed and lied properly on the bed, remembering only half of the happenings before I got here.I remember getting so dizzy as Sebastian continued trying to make small talks with me. Then I just lost balance and blacked out.I looked at Maddie and saw she was looking outside the window, looking like she was in a deep thought.“What time is it?”Maddie turned to me. “It’s 11 AM already.”I immediately started standing up. “Hey, hey. Yo
“The king is in the lounge area, maybe we can see him.”I looked at the two werewolf females that were with me in the kitchen. They were both trying to fix their clothes and hair as they watched themselves in the mirror. “I heard Beta Sebastian is also there with him. I think I’m gonna like general meetings because of this.” One of them giggled after saying that.“What’s happening?” I silently asked Maddie who was washing dishes with me. She came here to help me, even when I told her she didn’t need to.She glanced at the two who were still gushing over the king and his beta. “There will be a general meeting in the pack. Everyone has to gather for some important announcement. They say it’s one of the only occasions they get to see the king upclose since he didn’t like meddling with others.”Maddie closed the faucet as I took a towel to dry the clean plates. “Why?” She shrugged. “Him and the Beta didn’t really talk much with others excluding the High Council and other people they
I stared at the full moon in the night sky, feeling all jittery for the event that was coming.“Start lining up.”I turned around, hearing the Head Matron’s voice behind me.Miranda looked at me with those gray strict eyes of her, eyeing the rose pink dress she made me wear. She also told me to tie my brunette hair in a chignon. She surveyed how I looked. A glint of satisfaction crossed her eyes.I sighed in relief. “The king does not allow people to be late in such events. Go.”I nodded at her and immediately walked out of the place.I’ve never seen a Unification before, but I’ve surely heard of it.Some say it's easy, some say it’s painful, but all of them say it feels relieving to be part of a pack. That it would feel amazing feeling your Alpha and your packmates’ presence with your wolf.I’m just not so sure I would find that same relief with my situation. “Rina!”I walked towards the vast ground of the pack territory, seeing Maddie already waving her hand at me. She wore a whi
I could feel my entire body shaking. I could hear everything, feel everything, sense my wolf clawing at me as a powerful force covered my entirety.I could feel my eyes changing to my wolf’s eye color, and when I blink they come back to mine.I instinctively clutched on the table, feeling weak in the knees as my entire body trembled with all of these unnamed sensations.I tried focusing, looking in front as blinding light continued passing through me. I closed my eyes, feeling them burn. But when I opened them again, I saw the same thing happen to the man who seemed to have been struggling in front of me.“Your Highness—“ someone was about to come close to the king, but Sebastian interrupted.“Let him be. It’s the effect of the ritual on him.”Searing sensations started crawling all over my body, and I groaned. But before I closed my eyes to the burn, I still saw how Sebastian’s eyes went back and forth to me and the king, as if he knew something nobody else knew.“Ahhh,” I moaned wh
I gasped and stepped back, feeling the tremors of fear wash over me at the sight. But before I could even recover, a voice rang around the area, from someone I was painfully familiar with.“Looks like we were wrong after all. There was nothing to be cautious about this girl.”My head snapped to the other side of the place when sounds of people came my way.I instinctively took a step back when I saw the two Warriors that I’ve encountered inside the pack. The one from the Offering, and the other one from the Office Building's lounge area. They had bottles in their hands. And they appeared rugged and drunk as some buttons in their black uniforms were opened. They almost staggered as they continued walking towards me, smirks plastered all over their faces. And just when I thought it was the worst that it could get, those two girls that bullied Maddie appeared behind them, with satisfied smiles on their lips.“Looks like you’ll be the one down low on the ground with our feet on your face
I moved my attention to the feral wolf that was in front of me. But no, he was no ordinary wolf; he was a lycan. The Lycan King.I stared at King Titus who looked as deviously powerful as everyone described him to be.He was so tall, and he was almost half turned: his fangs protruding out of his mouth, his veins so thick on his arms and hands, and his eyes were as blinding as the sun. I’ve never seen his wolf before, but I know from his appearance right now, he was huge and dark. Just like the horror stories they taught us as kids. But that monster in that horror story wasn’t the monster in my eyes right now. It was my savior, my angel. The rescuer of my distressed situation. The king turned to both men lying on the ground as they both groaned in pain. But as quick as a blink, the lycan king was already in front of them, looming over their figures that were far from recovering from the latter’s last attack.“K-King Ti—ughhh!” The man from the Offering tried calling his name when he
I woke up in a room far more grand than what I remembered my place was in the Omega House.A crystal chandelier was hanging on the ceiling, contrasting yet complimenting the dark colors in the room.I surveyed the area slowly, seeking for someone the moment I opened my eyes. But when I saw no one was around, I slumped my head back to the bed. He’s not here.I sighed and stared up at the carved ceiling, flashes of what happened last night came into mind. The way he touched and comforted me suggested things that were totally opposite of his threat on me. Even the dread of having to experience the same nightmare again was nowhere near my mind because it was filled with all of him. He said things last night that contradicted what he told me the last time we had a conversation. He didn’t want to sever our bond. But he didn’t tell me to not keep it a secret anymore either. What does he really want? What is his purpose for this?Does he still want to play with other women? Is he not ready t
It took months before Vamos was able to recover. The fire that had started in the storage area of the pack had gotten so big it ruined half of the woods behind it. It went to the villages, the Office Building and the Omega House. Thankfully, the last two structures weren’t completely devoured as our other packmates quickly managed to stop the fire while the fights continued on the grounds that night. With the Command I did—which I vaguely remember doing. I thought I was just wishing it to happen—some rogues indeed snapped out of the effects of the Freedom. They stopped fighting and realized what was happening. Most of them were our packmates that were bitten and have turned. Still the effect of my Command, some did fight their heads, and most ran to follow Benjamin’s scent as he tried to escape. His body was then found by the Kingsguards who went to some rounds all around the pack vicinity. He was almost at the edge of Vamos, going to the human community, but the rogues were able
“Please! Wake up!” I screamed as tears finally fell down on my cheeks. “Titus, please! Wake up!” I cried and held his cheeks. His eyes were closed, and blood was all over his face. And I could see how battered he was. His lip was cut, his nose was shattered and his right brow was cut. But I know he’s still there. I may not hear him, nor feel his presence, but I know he’s still there. He has to be. “Sabrina, he’s been bitten too many times. He will change—“”We have a cure!” I looked up at him and immediately remembered that I left Lana and Nathan inside the clinic. “Lana and Nathan have the cure! Get to them and make them come here!”But Sebastian continued looking at me sadly. Maddie was already crying beside him as she clutched on his arm. I looked at all the others who were around us: the Councilmen, Edwin, the Kingsguards, even Miranda who remained strong and alive along with our packmates who survived.Anger boiled in my chest when all I could see were sadness and defeat in
Chaos continued on the pack of Vamos. But my eyes were trained towards my mate. Benjamin had shifted on his dirty, black and brown wolf who was buff but smaller than Dmitri. I knew that he was in no shape to fight the Alpha King. Titus was vicious, and I saw how just like me, he was just holding back earlier. “Ahhhh!” I turned and saw the scarred lycan as he held his spear in hand, ready to attack me. I jumped in the air and kicked another rogue for traction as I flipped in the air. With my jaw prepared to get his head, my back paws kicked the spear down and closed my jaw on his shoulders, making him scream. Blood boiling, I bit harder on his shoulder even when his blood had coated my nose and chin already. But I didn’t care. I wanted him gone forever. He has always been a pawn. Many lives were wasted, ruined and lost because of him. I yelped when even with immense pain, he managed to slash my side with another spear he suddenly grabbed from the rogue who passed by. I flew back
I walked towards the grounds where almost all the fights stopped at the emergence of the new group. For a moment, everything seemed to have frozen as my mind filled with rage for the man who ruined my life. Those pitch black eyes suddenly found mine, and a grin immediately plastered on his scarred face. “Ah, Sabrina. It’s so nice to see that you are okay.””Bastard,” I seethed. He just smirked. “I’m going to kill you.”His smirk turned into a grin as he positioned. “Try me.”I lunged at him, shifting mid-air and abandoning all thoughts of not causing permanent harm to anyone. This man deserved all the harm anyone could cause him after all the evil things he has done. I was about to bite his head off when he suddenly brought up a spear which he used to cover his face. My jaw clenched on the metal weapon, and with my grip still on it, he threw his arm out, making my body fly in the air. I landed on my paws, finding my balance. The bastard didn’t expect how quick I was when with ano
Screams echoed all around the pack as a huge explosion shook the ground once again.I stood up and took the two bags filled with needles I managed to already put tranquilizers on and ran towards the window. My eyes widened when I saw how huge the fire had gotten in the forest. And it was now crawling towards the Omega House and the villages, where the explosion happened. “No…” I breathed out and quickly ran back down. I fought against the rogues I came across. I immediately noticed how their numbers have doubled in just a couple of minutes. I was surrounded by five or six people, but with the tranquilizers I have in hand, I managed to push down two within just a minute. ‘Sabrina!’ Someone screamed but I couldn’t look where it was as I struggled at the neck lock that I was caged in. Taking another needle from the lab gown’s side, I injected it to him and stabbed the other one who attacked me. I pushed out the liquid to his skin. But before I could attack the last one in front of
‘We’re almost there!’ Nate and I’s paws pounded on the ground, but a rogue suddenly appeared behind the shadows, making me stop for a while. ‘Rina!’ I backed away as Nate took on the rogue. I let him, knowing he was far stronger. And I could sense how eager and suddenly fired up Nate was. It's just like me, the compulsion we heard from our king about killing an infected wolf was making us want to do it more. The rogue went down and we quickly made our way towards the entrance of the dungeon that we could now see. Thankfully, there was still no one there that could possibly stop us. ‘Let’s run faster, before anyone gets here.’We both sped up, knowing the possibility was there. Our paws made loud noises as soon as we entered the quiet cave of the dungeon. The cave’s width and height accommodated us as we both entered the prison where Lana Wintour was.”Nathan,” Lana called as soon as she recognized Nate’s wolf. Nate didn’t say anything but I saw something flash in his eyes.I tur
‘Go, Maddie and I will continue helping the rescue. We can’t abandon this or everyone will be turned.’ Edwin told us. ‘Go, Rina. Only you two can stop this.’ Maddie added. ‘Let’s go.’ Nate and I started running in the opposite direction. We were now running towards the pack grounds where most of the fights were happening. Lana told me she was studying my blood samples for something else. I could only hope she was studying them for a cure. And that that cure is already available now. If it is, I don’t know yet how we are going to spread that to the infected. But first, we have to make sure we have a cure for this.’She has the cure?’ Nate asked amidst another fight we were having. We were teaming up now to make things quick. Nate is a very skilled fighter and is very strong, he could make the enemies fall down in a matter of a few seconds. His wolf’s jaw was so strong he could rip anyone apart. I’ll have to thank him for even being here. He’s an Alpha in a different pack. And yet,
Being bigger and heavier than her, I immediately locked her on the ground. She barked at my face, and I was once again surprised at how strong they were. I was fighting a half turned young wolf. She’s a teenager, and yet she’s almost as strong as the trained Warriors I have fought. I could see that they are unlike the rogues I have encountered before. They were not mindless. They know what they’re doing, but their minds are twisted with the Freedom’s ideology. And the dark protruding veins around their body wasn’t as huge. They were smaller now, but they crawled at a wider scope like webs in their body.“We will defeat you! This kingdom is ours—“I cut off her screams and bit off her neck when she tried getting away. I heard a crack and pulled back, just leaving her unconscious as I processed everything that was happening. They indeed have perfected the Freedom. The turned wolves are more coherent and mindful—but manipulated according to their liking. Benjamin has infiltrated the p
As soon as I was able to properly stand up, the soldiers started attacking. Loud screams and groans echoed around the grounds as Titus and Sebastian moved like lightning. I barely had anyone attacking me when the rest of the Warriors came in to back us up. I didn’t know there were this many that had gotten the injection. There were basically more than fifty of them. And they were moving unexpectedly faster, their attacks stronger. I huffed when someone was able to approach me with a swing on his heavy fist. I fortunately evaded it and it landed on the nearest tree on my back which had my eyes widen. The tree bark just shattered, making the tree shake. It could have been my face.I faced the Warrior rogue and saw his pitch black, sparkling eyes. “Ahh!”I quickly moved away before he could smash my face. He was unimaginably strong for someone who’s gotten half of his body burned. This was the effect of the perfected Freedom. They are going to be as strong as trained lycans. They wi
