Mila’s POV Too much time had passed in the study with Beta Ryker, and I knew that Alpha Gunner would be coming soon to look for me if I didn’t head straight to his office now, even though my stomach growled in protest, but I wasn’t up for eating. Between the worry about my food being tainted, and what just transpired between Beta Ryker and myself, I honestly didn’t think that I could force myself to keep anything down, as I now worried that someone had seen us enter the study together. I didn’t have a clue how Beta Ryker was going to get us time together, with eyes on me always, but I had to put my faith and trust in him that he would find a way. To my surprise the door to Alpha Gunner’s office was open, making me pause, fixing my dress one last time, before I stepped into its opening. But as I made my appearance, I quickly froze when Alpha Gunner says, “You are late. Where have you been?” Thinking quick on my feet, I say back to him, “I
Mila’s POV Alpha Gunner escorted me to the meeting room next door to his office, and as we entered the room, he placed his hand at the small of my back, as a sign to all the council members that I was his possession. In response, it made me feel at that moment like I was his trophy for what he had done to my pack, and I couldn’t help but feel like I was being made to attend this meeting because of that. Pulling out a chair, he motioned for me to take a seat, as he moved to take the seat next to me, while all the council members’ eyes were now on me. Their stares began to make me feel uncomfortable, as I could see the pity in their eyes towards me. I knew there was nothing any of them could do for me, as it was law that once a slave is purchased that slave remained with their owner until their owner gave them their freedom, which rarely ever happened. “I have called you all hear today for this meeting, because I believe that I may have a
Mila’s POV Taking a deep breath, I slowly got to my feet and stood next to Alpha Gunner, as all the council members’ attention turned to me, along with Alpha Gunner’s. My hands instantly began to shake along with my legs, as I realized what I was about to do, but with everyone staring at me now, it was too late to back out, and I knew that it was the right thing to do. “As you may already know, I am Mila, the daughter of Crescent Moon’s Beta. I know that my word means little to you, now that my father is dead, and I hold no standing, but I can vouch for what Alpha Gunner is telling you. Red Moon was attacked by a group of rogues, and Alpha Gunner was injured in that attack protecting his pack. I can also vouch that Trina, the she wolf that he speaks of, was taken by rogues, as I was there when he rescued her, and was attacked myself by two male rogues.” I paused as they all looked at each other, wondering if they could take my word, but what I was about
Mila’s POV Trina helped me up the stairs to my room, as I sobbed in her arms, while I felt like I was losing my mind. Between the look in Alpha Gunner’s eyes when he stared at me after I had confessed there was a she wolf from his pack there, to the electrifying feeling he then gave me when he touched my hand, had me confused with what the heck was going on with my body. These were all feelings I was supposed to have with my mate, but for some crazy reason, I had them with him. Trina helped me to my bed, and she quickly disappeared into the bathroom, returning promptly with a box of tissues, and a glass of water, as she said to me, “Take a drink. It will help calm you.” Slowly, I raised the glass to my lips, as my hands shook, while my mind continued to spin, with questions of why I was feeling this way. It was as if my heart was breaking now into a million little pieces, as my soul felt it was tainted. As the cool water
Mila’s POV “It’s the rogues, they are attacking again.” Trina says, as she grabs ahold of my arm, and pulls me away from the window, while she says in a frenzy, “They came back for us. We have to get to safety.” At that moment, Trina begins to pull me towards the door, but I pull my arm from her grasp, as I say to her, “We are on the top floor. We are on the safest floor of the house.” Making her stop to turn to look at me. Shaking her head, she says to me, “No. They will come here first to look for us. We need to hide somewhere they would never look.” She was right, if they were here for us, and they got through Alpha Gunner’s men, they would come straight here to find us. Plus, there were members of the pack working with them, and they knew this was where Alpha Gunner was keeping me. Another howl now echoed from outside, but this time, I recognized the howl, knowing that Alpha Gunner had joined the battl
Mila’s POV Moving towards the door, I placed myself in front of the councilmen, knowing that I had to do everything in my power to keep them alive for not only the sake of Alpha Gunner, but for the sake of all the packs in our region. One by one, the stack of chairs began to fall to the floor, while I could see the hinges on the door begin to pull from the wall. Fear was now present inside of me, but I couldn’t allow it to take over, as I knew what I had to do. Slowly, I raised the sword before me, pointing it directly at the door, as my hands shook, while I tried to steady them, as I took deep breaths, praying to the Moon Goddess for a miracle. As the last chair fell from our barricade, and the door broke free from its hinges, a low growl echoed into the room, and I knew that growl better than anyone. The door at that moment came crashing into the room, but the rogue was no longer standing on the other side of the doorway. In his place
Mila’s POV Stepping outside the walls of the house, I immediately seen the aftermath of what had taken place, while I had been barricaded inside. The backyard no longer bared a luscious green color, but instead was covered in the crimson shade of blood of the fallen. The lifeless bodies of pack members were now being retrieved by members of the pack that had survived the attack, while the rogue bodies were being piled on top of one another. Seeing all of this carnage and death, took me back to the night my own pack was attacked. Small flashbacks began to flash before my eyes of that night, making me pause for a second, as I took a deep breath, knowing that I needed to compose myself if I was going to be any help to the pack doctor saving Alpha Gunner’s life in the operating room. Getting my emotions under control, I picked up my pace trying to avoid the sight around me, as I focused my attention on the infirmary now in my view, but the s
Mila’s POV “Mila, what you are proposing is traitorous. Plus, I would be lying to the entire pack.” The pack doctor said to me, not believing that I would have made such a proposal, but I had to make him understand that it wasn’t safe here for Alpha Gunner, especially if they thought he was going to make a recovery. “Listen, this is the only way to keep him safe.” I said pleading with him, praying that he could see that I had Alpha Gunner’s best interest at heart right now. The pack doctor shook his head, as he walked back over to Alpha Gunner’s bedside, like he was waiting for him to wake up and tell him what to do, but that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, and we had to make sure that we gave him the time to safely recover. As he stared down at Alpha Gunner, he finally says to me, “I don’t like this plan of yours at all, but I do believe that there are members of this pack working with the rogues. If what you’re saying is true, the
Mila’s POV As I remained there silent, allowing Trina to spill the truth from her own lips to his ears, my heart ached in pain knowing that he didn’t believe me, and it had to come to this to prove to him that I had spoken the truth to him. With Trina rubbing in the pain with insult to me, I did everything in my power to remain silent, as I kept my head down, squeezing my eyes tightly together, while my heart felt like it was breaking into a million little pieces with her words unfortunately holding truth to them. With each hurtful word said from her, he remained in denial that Trina could be the one behind all of this, as he indicates that someone had to be tainting her mind, but to me it was more than clear that she was the one that had orchestrated all of this. What I couldn’t believe even after she admitted to him that she was the one responsible for the deaths of his parents, that he would continue to think that her mind was poisoned to make her do
Gunner’s POV “I’m sorry.” Softly whispered from Mila’s lips, as she let go of me, and for a moment I thought that she had decided that she couldn’t remain my mate, but then she did the unthinkable by shifting into her wolf. Her wolf took off without a moment of hesitation down the mountainside towards the rogues’ camp, making me wonder what the hell she was thinking. It took me a second to process what was happening before I shifted into my wolf and raced after her, knowing that if she reached the rogues’ camp, she was as good as dead. Mila had a couple second head start on me, but I was sure that I would be able to catch her, but her wolf was faster than I had anticipated her to be. A little over halfway down the mountainside, my wolf let out a growl warning her to stop, but his growl had absolutely no effect on her, as she continued to race ahead, full speed towards the rogues’ camp. Realization now dawned on me what she was doing, a
Mila’s POV Seth stopped on the top of a bluff, and I moved to his side, as we both stared down into the rogue’s camp, and I could see the war happening before my eyes, making me worried that I was too late to save him from Trina’s grasp. I was just about ready to storm into the camp to find him and warn him, when a howl echoed in the valley, and I knew that it was his.Worry at that moment began to consume me that we were too late, and that I had to get to him and do everything in my power to save him, but then I saw our pack warriors fleeing the rogues’ camp, and they were headed in our direction. I watched from the edge of the bluff as our pack warriors headed up the side of the mountain, as my eyes moved to the edge of the camp where Alpha Gunner and two other wolves held the rogues off so that the other warriors could retreat.Thankfully, when all our warriors were out of the camp, he and the two warriors that stood beside him turned and raced up the side of the mo
Gunner’s POV The rogues’ army was on us before we knew it, and my wolf didn’t hesitate to charge them at full force, taking the blood from them that I had promised to him. Two by two he took them down, as it was beginning to feel like they were gunning solely for me, as an endless attack continued my way, while my warriors remained with their own hands full. It was clear that this attack from them was meticulously thought out, and unlike any other attack that I had witnessed from the rogues before, telling me that someone other than a rogue was pulling the strings still here. With the absence of Beta Ryker, I was sure that they would be left in dismay, but that was clearly not the case, as they looked like they were organized in their attack, and they were being commanded by their own Alpha. Worry and dread began to consume me that I had bitten off more than I could chew, as neither I nor my warriors were prepared for this fight, but it
Gunner’s POV Now knowing that Seth found Mila and Trina, there was nothing stopping me from taking down every last one of these rogues and making them pay for all the lives that they have taken, along with the kidnapping of my Luna. Knowing that they were safe, I knew I should wait until the council’s army got here, but I couldn’t take the chance of them coming after them again. My wolf had been itching for their blood since they had taken our mate, and their blood was exactly what I was going to give him. With Midnight by my side, I had the numbers, and I just prayed that they were enough for what laid ahead of us, as I gave the order for my army of warriors to follow me to the coordinates that Seth had given me, where he had located the rogues’ camp. With the moon hanging high above us in the night sky, something about what I was about to do pulled at my gut, as if something was telling me this was wrong, but I knew it had to be, because I had never a
Mila’s POV My eyes opened as my body was now free to move, and I quickly sat up, as my eyes landed on a dark brown wolf, who had the rogue that was on my back pinned to the ground, but the rogue was putting up a fight, even in his human form. For now, the wolf had the upper hand, but I watched as the rogue’s hand moved towards the sword that was now laying on the ground beside him. The wolf that had come to my rescue was too caught up in keeping the rogue pinned to see what the rogue was about to get his hands on, and I knew that I had to take action. Racing towards the sword, I grabbed it at the same moment that the rogue’s hand landed on it, but thankfully I had the hill in my hand where he had the blade.Pulling as hard as I could, I watched as the blade sliced right through his hand, making him scream out in pain, and lose his concentration on keeping the wolf at a distance from his throat. That split second loss of concentration was all the wolf ne
Mila’s POV The door was holding up, but barely, as the rogue let out a growl of frustration, unable to easily gain access to me, as I remained standing there waiting for him to bust through it at any moment. My heart continued to race in my chest, but my wolf began to let her presence known, as the drug that I was given was now completely wearing off. Something about feeling her presence with me now gave me hope and the feeling that I wasn’t alone in this, along with a newfound strength that began to course through my veins. It was at that moment that everything went silent, along with the pounding on the door, making me wonder if the rogue had given up, but I knew that was way too simple. Steadying my heart, I listened, waiting for their next move, but only silence filled the air, making me want to believe that they had retreated, but I wasn’t a fool. I could hear the sounds of their beating hearts on the other side of the door, and I knew that they we
Mila’s POV Remaining behind the door, too scared to leave my place of hiding, I listened for any signs of someone being inside the house, as I tried to come up with a plan to get out of here and as far away from their grasps. As the minutes ticked by, it was clear that the rogues that had been holding me were no longer inside, but on the hunt for me thinking that I had escaped, and at least I knew this was buying Alpha Gunner some time to win this war against them. Overcoming my fears, I knew that I couldn’t remain here hidden, knowing that eventually they would return to this room. I slowly began to creep the door open, taking a better look at my surroundings as I tried to get my eyes to focus on the darkness of the room. My limbs had regained some more of their strength, and I found myself more at ease walking, as I headed towards the other door that was now opened in the room, interested in where it led too. As I approached the door,
Gunner’s POV There was no calming my raging wolf inside of me, that wanted the blood of those that took my mate, but I needed to have a clear head if I was going to be able to save her and Trina. Trying to reason with my wolf wasn’t an easy task, and I hadn’t fought him before when he wanted to make those pay that had done wrong by me, but this time we had to be smart about how we approached this matter, and I assured him that he would get his blood that he seeks. There wasn’t time to waste waiting until tomorrow for the council’s army to arrive, because they had Mila and Trina, and I was going to do whatever it took to get them back. Readying my own warriors, I made a quick call to the council, telling them that Mila had been taken, and that my plans had changed.Unfortunately, they were still assembling their army, but the council assured me that the army they had promised me would be wherever I told them, as soon as they were ready to ship my way.
