Mila’s POV “It’s the rogues, they are attacking again.” Trina says, as she grabs ahold of my arm, and pulls me away from the window, while she says in a frenzy, “They came back for us. We have to get to safety.” At that moment, Trina begins to pull me towards the door, but I pull my arm from her grasp, as I say to her, “We are on the top floor. We are on the safest floor of the house.” Making her stop to turn to look at me. Shaking her head, she says to me, “No. They will come here first to look for us. We need to hide somewhere they would never look.” She was right, if they were here for us, and they got through Alpha Gunner’s men, they would come straight here to find us. Plus, there were members of the pack working with them, and they knew this was where Alpha Gunner was keeping me. Another howl now echoed from outside, but this time, I recognized the howl, knowing that Alpha Gunner had joined the battl
Mila’s POV Moving towards the door, I placed myself in front of the councilmen, knowing that I had to do everything in my power to keep them alive for not only the sake of Alpha Gunner, but for the sake of all the packs in our region. One by one, the stack of chairs began to fall to the floor, while I could see the hinges on the door begin to pull from the wall. Fear was now present inside of me, but I couldn’t allow it to take over, as I knew what I had to do. Slowly, I raised the sword before me, pointing it directly at the door, as my hands shook, while I tried to steady them, as I took deep breaths, praying to the Moon Goddess for a miracle. As the last chair fell from our barricade, and the door broke free from its hinges, a low growl echoed into the room, and I knew that growl better than anyone. The door at that moment came crashing into the room, but the rogue was no longer standing on the other side of the doorway. In his place
Mila’s POV Stepping outside the walls of the house, I immediately seen the aftermath of what had taken place, while I had been barricaded inside. The backyard no longer bared a luscious green color, but instead was covered in the crimson shade of blood of the fallen. The lifeless bodies of pack members were now being retrieved by members of the pack that had survived the attack, while the rogue bodies were being piled on top of one another. Seeing all of this carnage and death, took me back to the night my own pack was attacked. Small flashbacks began to flash before my eyes of that night, making me pause for a second, as I took a deep breath, knowing that I needed to compose myself if I was going to be any help to the pack doctor saving Alpha Gunner’s life in the operating room. Getting my emotions under control, I picked up my pace trying to avoid the sight around me, as I focused my attention on the infirmary now in my view, but the s
Mila’s POV “Mila, what you are proposing is traitorous. Plus, I would be lying to the entire pack.” The pack doctor said to me, not believing that I would have made such a proposal, but I had to make him understand that it wasn’t safe here for Alpha Gunner, especially if they thought he was going to make a recovery. “Listen, this is the only way to keep him safe.” I said pleading with him, praying that he could see that I had Alpha Gunner’s best interest at heart right now. The pack doctor shook his head, as he walked back over to Alpha Gunner’s bedside, like he was waiting for him to wake up and tell him what to do, but that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, and we had to make sure that we gave him the time to safely recover. As he stared down at Alpha Gunner, he finally says to me, “I don’t like this plan of yours at all, but I do believe that there are members of this pack working with the rogues. If what you’re saying is true, the
Mila’s POV Standing in the doorway between my room and Alpha Gunner’s room, I watched the two pack members that had carried him earlier to the infirmary, now gently placing him on his own bed, as the pack doctor stood there watching their every move, just like myself. Even though the pack doctor seemed to trust these two men, I myself, still had little to no trust now for anyone in this pack, until those that are working with the rogues were discovered. Once Alpha Gunner was safely in his bed, the pack doctor dismissed the two men, and once the door was shut, he said to me, “You will need to change his bandages three times a day, along with putting this sab on it.” As he held the items in the air, for me to take, but I remained standing there in the doorframe remembering back to the first night I was here, and how I tried to open the door with so much fear inside of me.Now the door between our rooms was completely open, but this time there was no fear
Mila’s POV My nights and days were starting to run together, as I cared for Alpha Gunner, and every time there was a knock on the door, my heart began to race thinking that it was someone coming to end his life. But each time it had only been the pack doctor doing his daily check-ins, like he had promised, along with bringing me food, to get me through the day. I had moved a chair beside his bed, and at first, I sat there in silence reading a book, but as the time went on, I found myself reading out loud, as if he could hear me. A part of me wonders if he could, as I could see small twitches now with his fingers, but I honestly didn’t know if it was just a reaction from the pain of fighting off the silver poison, or if he was reacting to what I was reading. Either way, I felt like I was less alone reading out loud to him, and I continued to do it, hoping that it was therapy for him too. On day five, Alpha Gunner began to have the sweats,
Mila’s POV To say that I was starting to feel very uncomfortable was an understatement, as I looked away from him, not able to look him in the eyes any longer, while I continued to have an unnerving feeling that I couldn’t shake, hearing him say that I would be his. Something about the way he said it made my stomach curl into a knot, as his words continued to seem undesirable to me. Now pinned between the bedside table, I was out of room to put space between us, as he moved towards me once again, obviously sensing the little distance I had managed to get. “Mila, I am beginning to sense a change in you. Have you changed your mind about wanting to be freed from this imprisonment to be with me?” He now asked me, and by the look in his eyes if I told him how I was truly feeling right now, he may just keep me as a prisoner for the rest of my life himself, if Alpha Gunner doesn’t make it. So, instead of telling him how he was making me feel, I
Mila’s POV The pack doctor quickly moved to my aid, as he helped me take a seat in the chair next to Alpha Gunner’s bed, while the room around me continued to spin. Tears now formed in my eyes, as the realization dawned on me that I had been played by Beta Ryker as a fool, but one thing that I couldn’t understand was how the pack doctor knew that Beta Ryker wasn’t my mate. How would anyone know that, except for the person that was truly my mate. “Why are you saying that? You can’t possibly know that.” I say to him, now in denial, even though deep down I knew that it would explain the reason I was feeling unsure about my feelings towards him, and the way my body shivered to his touch. “You’re right. I don’t know that for sure, but I have always been good at reading people’s body language, and you my dear were not too accepting to his touch.” The pack doctor now said, and he was right, I was trying to put distance between us before he show
Mila’s POV An array of emotions at that moment began to flood through me, but I quickly realized those emotions weren’t of my own. It was as if staring into his eyes had opened a gate to the portal to his heart, allowing all his emotions to rush at me at once. His heart that I once thought was so cold and full of darkness, was actually completely the opposite. I can now see that it was all a façade that he maintains, so that no one can see the vulnerable side of him. But right now, his gates were down for me, showing me who really lays under that external hard person, he portrays himself to be to others. There was no doubt in my mind that something really bad had to have happened, for him to hide who he truly is, and something was telling me that something bad had to do with his parents. It was a conversation that the two of us needed to have, but right now, this was our moment in time, and it would have to wait. Now see
Mila’s POV As my lips crashed against his lips, sparks erupted throughout the entirety of my body, as fireworks exploded behind my closed eyes, while the bond between the two of us began to tie itself together. At first, he resisted, but with the bond now humming between us at full force, it didn’t take long for him to give in to its pull. Within seconds, his arms wrapped around me, pulling me even tighter into him, not leaving a fraction of a space between us, as his lips softened and began to move against my own. His tongue now glided acrost my bottom lip, making my lips part slightly, as a moan slowly slipped from my lips, and butterflies began to flutter in my stomach. With my lips now slightly parted, I felt his tongue begging for access, as he now slid it between my parted lips. Unlike the kiss I had shared with Beta Ryker that now felt so forced, this kiss felt so right and natural that I couldn’t help but allow him the access he
Mila’s POV The feeling of the mate bond continues to grow stronger between the two of us, as he carries me now up the stairs to his room, while I continue to lay my head against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat. If I was being honest with myself, this was the first time since the attack that I have felt safe and secure, and it was crazy to think that it was in the arms of the man that had enslaved me. Thinking back to my first day here, and how I was thinking about ending my life or his own, I now realize there was an invisible force at play, washing those thoughts from my mind. My father used to tell me that everything happens for a reason, and I am now a firm believer in that, but I also believe that our Moon Goddess had a hand in making sure that I was delivered safely to my mate, even if it cost him a million dollars. When we finally got to the top floor, Alpha Gunner stepped into his room, and slowly lowered me to my fe
Mila’s POV Shifting back to his human form, Alpha Gunner closed the distance between us in his human form, as he motioned to someone to get him something. Before I knew it, a pack member was handing him a shirt, and he instantly presented it to me, wanting me to shift back into my human form myself. But as I looked around at all the eyes now on me, I felt a bit uncomfortable. My wolf thankfully could feel my discomfort, so instead of doing as she was asked, she grabbed the shirt from his hands, before taking off behind the nearest building. The shift back into my human form was swift and without an ounce of pain, and I quickly threw the shirt over my head, while I looked around hoping no one seen me. I began to feel nervous, but it wasn’t because I was only in a tee shirt, ready to face the whole entire pack, but because I was going to face Alpha Gunner for the first time since I had gotten my wolf in our human form. This was definitel
Mila’s POV Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to make Beta Ryker pay, but my wolf, she wanted blood. To be honest, she was more fearless than I ever could be, because there was no way in hell, I would think about going against a Beta yet alone take the first strike. It was clear that my wolf took him by surprise, as she easily took him to the ground in his human form, but as soon as the impact of the ground came, he shifted into his own wolf. His wolf wasn’t messing around, as he gave my wolf a hard kick to the ribs, making us fly off him, like we weighed nothing, which compared to the size of his wolf, my wolf probably felt like a feather to him. My body didn’t fly too far, as members of the pack helped stop it, but as I was flying in the air, I heard an all too familiar low growl. As soon as I got my bearings, I turned just in time to see Alpha Gunner shifting into his wolf, and without a second of hesitation, his wolf leaps in the air towar
Mila’s POV Stepping towards him, I stop when I am about a foot away before I say to him, “Look at me, please.” Slowly he raised his head, and those eyes of his that always seemed so cold, now had nothing but sadness in them, something I never thought that I would see in them. The monster that I had portrayed him as being, was clearly not who he was, and I could now see that his rough exterior was a facade. My heart began to break as I stared into his eyes, as if I was feeling the burden of his pain that he carried with him. Reaching, he took my hands in to his own, and now that I had my wolf, I could feel the bond pulsing between the two of us. His eyes now stared intently into my own, and I could see that he was battling his own emotions to speak, but then he swallows hard and says to me, “I know that I have failed you on so many levels, but I swear I was doing it all to protect you. Maybe I am the monster you portrayed me to be, but I
Mila’s POV When the darkness had taken me, I was sure that I was dead and that I would be reunited with my family, but that never happened. Instead, I remained in pure darkness, but conscious enough to begin to hear a familiar voice, making me wonder if I was in a state of dream. As I listened to his voice, wondering what the heck he was saying, I realized quickly that he was reading where I had left off, from the book that I had placed on his bedside table from the night before. As I listened to his voice, something about it became soothing to my ears, and as I continued to listen to him read, I could feel my wolf within me stir, as if his voice was affecting her too. Unable to move or open my eyes, I was now a prisoner to my body, flipping the tables with him, as it was clear that he had made a recovery from the poisoning. What I didn’t understand was why he was here with me now, reading from my book, instead of taking his pack back, or had he already
Gunner’s POV “You’re alive.” Shockingly came from his lips, as his eyes moved to behind me to see Seth and the group of men that he had formed, just in case things went south. There was no telling if Beta Ryker had his men here right now that had betrayed me, and I wasn’t taking any chances that he did.Hell, at this point, there could even be rogues among us, hidden within the pack members standing here now. But I didn’t move my eyes from him, knowing that Seth and my men behind me had my back.“Don’t look so surprised, I am of Alpha’s blood. It’s going to take more than a little silver poisoning to kill me.” I said to him, trying to maintain my poise, as my wolf continued to claw at my insides, wanting to put an end to Beta Ryker’s life for so many reasons, including touching our mate. But I had to put that aside at this moment, because I needed to get my pack back, so that I could ensure Mila’s safety and the rest of my loyal pack members. His eyes at that moment mo
Gunner’s POV All night long, I was on high alert, as I remained watching over Mila, along with Riley in the next-door room, while the pack doctor returned home, not wanting to draw attention to himself or us, by remaining in my room. Beta Ryker needed to continue to think that I was on my death bed until I made my move tomorrow surprising him with my recovery. Thankfully, Mila was healing quickly, but still remained unconscious, and I knew that it wouldn’t be long before she woke from her own induced coma, while her wolf healed her. My body though, was well rested, and I found myself pacing, just like Mila had been doing the previous night, as I knew what tomorrow was to bring, while the fate of not only my pack rested in my hands, but her fate as well. When late morning came, the pack doctor along with his nephew, Seth, knocked on my door, and as the pack doctor checked on Mila, Seth began to tell me that he was successful in ga
